Sandown

3.05 Betway Atalanta Stakes (Group 3) for Fillies and Mares over 1m

This race looks as though its between Quadrilateral and Billesdon Brook on paper so we will start with looking at those 2. Quadrilateral out of Frankel and Nimble Thimble, has had 5 career starts winning 3 times and placing 3rd twice. Won on debut at Newbury on the 16th August 2019 when beating Mambo Nights by a neck with Ottoman Court a further 3 and 1/2 lengths adrift in 3rd. Won again on next start at Newbury on the 20th September, when beating Kalsara by 9 lengths with Melinkova a further short head behind in 3rd over 7f in a Class 2. The bet365 Fillies Group 1 at Newmarket was next port of call on the 11th October and Quadrilateral won again, beating Powerful Breeze by a head with Love a further length and 1/2 adrift in 3rd. A return to Newmarket to race in the 1,000 guineas was next for Quadrilateral on the 7th June this year, Quadrilateral finished 3rd behind winner Love with Cloak Of Spirits 4 and 1/4 lengths behind in 2nd with Quadrilateral a head behind in 3rd. The Coronation Stakes at Ascot was next on the agenda for Quadrilateral and again finished 3rd, behind winner Alpine Star with Sharing beaten 4 and 1/4 lengths in 2nd.

Billesdon Brook out of Champs Elysees and Coplow, has had 24 career starts winning 7 times and placing 9 times. The wins have came at Kempton, Goodwood, Newmarket and Chelmsford. Although last win came at Newmarket on the 5th October last year. Billesdon Brook has had 4 starts in 2020 and finished 2nd in 3 of those, beginning with a 3/4 of length defeat at the hands of Nazeef at Kempton on the 3rd June. Was then sent to Ascot to race in the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes and finished a well beaten 9th. Was then sent to Chelmsford to race in the Class 1 listed Queen Charlotte Stakes and was beaten 6 lengths by Miss Celestial. Most recently was sent back to Newmarket to race in the Tattershall Falmouth Stakes and was beaten a neck by Nazeef. I feel Quadrilateral will take all the beating in this race and Billesdon Brook will push all the way but again may be second best in a very hot contest.

3.40 Betway Solario Stakes (Group 3) over 7f

Dubai Fountain out of Teofilo and Nafura has had 4 career starts so far Winning twice and placing 2nd twice. The wins have came at Doncaster and Haydock with the 2nd places coming at Sandown and Newmarket. Won on debut at Doncaster on the 14th June when beating She Do by 1 length and Steely Dawn a further 9 and 1/2 lengths adrift in 3rd. Haydock was next race for Dubai Fountain and won again, beating Amasova by 8 and 1/2 lengths with Galah a further 1 and 1/4 lengths behind in 3rd. Was sent to Sandown for next race in a Class 1 Listed race and was beaten 1 length by Fev Rover with Setarhe a head behind in 3rd. Was sent to Newmarket for latest race in the Group 3 Solera Stakes on the 8th August and was beaten into 2nd again, by Star Of Emaraaty who won by 1 and 1/4 lengths with Seattle Rock a neck behind Dubai Fountain in 3rd. If repeating that kind of form today that should be enough to claim another win.

Ebor Festival – The Final Fling

Welcome to Arseonlineracing’s coverage of the Ebor Festival from York.
This website has NO affiliate links & is 100% independent, curated by 2 racing enthusiast’s from either end of the British Isles.
Charlie hails from Glasgow while Rich is from the Isle of Wight, miles apart but united by the sport of kings….

This is the last day of the Ebor festival, the final fling! What a week it has been on the Knavsmire, with Battaash winning yesterday’s Nunthorpe for the second year running…..
Today’s card includes the City of York Stakes & the Ebor Handicap….. The going at York is Good, good to soft in places

Jamie & Chris join Charlie & Rich for the Final Fling, so let’s get the car started –

Charlie –

1.50 Sky Bet And Symphony Group Strensall Stakes Group 3 over 1m 177y

Zabeel Prince – Out of Lope De Vega and Princess Serena, has had 14 starts winning 6 times and placing 2nd twice. The wins have came at Nottingham, Yarmouth, York, Doncaster, Newmarket and Longchamp. The wins have came on ground covering soft to good to firm so shouldn’t have any issues with the going, last win came at Longchamp on the 26th May last year when beating Study of Man by 3/4 of a length with Trais Flours 3/4 of a length behind in 3rd, that race was over 1m 1f 55y and was a Group 1. Has only had the 1 run so far in 2020 and finished 5th at leopardstown in a Group 3 over 1m 1f on the 11th July that was eventually won by Patrick Sarsfield with Ancient Spirit 2 lengths behind in 2nd and Fort Myers 3/4 of length behind in 3rd. Colin Keane was on board for that race and is replaced by Andrea Atzeni who has been on board for 5 out of 6 of those wins.

4.10 Julia Graves Roses Stakes Listed over 5f

Ben Macdui – Out of Kodiac and Candiland, has only had 2 career starts so far winning once and placing 2nd in the other. Won on debut at Hamilton on the 16th July this year when beating Salsoul by 1 and 1/4 lengths with Haveagomecca a further 1 and 1/4 lengths behind in 3rd, that race was over 5f on good ground. Was sent to Goodwood for next race in a Class 1 Group 3 over 5f and was beaten 3/4 of a length into 2nd by Steel Bull with Internationaldream a further length and 1/2 behind in 3rd. Looked like the winner until being passed in final 110y of that race and should be thereabouts again from a decent draw today.

4.40 Skybet Class 2 Handicap over 1m 2f 56y

Maydanny – Out of Dubawi and Attraction, has had 6 starts so far winning twice and placing 2nd twice. The wins have came at Yarmouth and Goodwood with the 2nd placed finishes coming at Beverley and Nottingham. Was 2nd on debut at Beverley over 7f and 96y on the 29th May last year when beaten by 1 length by Kodiac Pride with Noble Prospector 2 lengths behind in 3rd. Was sent to Nottingham for next start on the 13th June and finished 2nd again beaten 3/4 of a length by Ocean Paradise with Helian a further 6 lengths adrift in 3rd on heavy ground. Yarmouth was next port of call for Maydanny on the 3rd of June this year when beating Arigato by 3 and 3/4 of a length with Balgair a further 2 and 1/2 lengths adrift in 3rd over 1m 3y on Firm ground. Was sent to Ascot on the 17th June and finished a well beaten 7th behind winner Sir Busker over 1m in a Class 2 Handicap. Was then sent to Newmarket on the 9th July to race in a Class 3 Handicap over 1m and finished 5th behind winner Bear Force One on Good to Soft ground. Was sent to Goodwood for next latest race on the 28th July this year when beating Sky Defender by 5 lengths with Bell Rock a nose behind in 3rd in a Class 2 Handicap over 1m 1f and 197y on Good ground. Has a nice draw for todays race and if showing same attitude as last time should be bang there come business end of race.

Jamie –

2:25 – Sky Bet Melrose Handicap –
Selection: Midnights Legacy

The famous consolation race for horses who didn’t get into the Ebor.
The potentially well handicapper Favourite Moon heads the market, although I think Alan King, better known for his jumpers can land another nice pot on the level. His charge Midnights Legacy is still very unexposed having won three of his four races to date, including two from two this season.
Martin Harley gets on very well with this horse and with a NH pedigree the step up two furlongs to 1m 6f should suit Midnights Legacy. His supporters would like to see some more rain fall on the Knavesmire but he did win on good ground last time out.
The rough and tumble of a larger field is a question mark, but I don’t expect that to cause any concern. This horse has every chance at an attractive looking price.

3:40 – Sky Bet Ebor Handicap –
Selection: Verdana Blue

This looks a classy Ebor on paper and in my opinion, Nicky Henderson has the classiest horse in the race. Verdana Blue has been a star for the master of Seven Barrows over the years and I am confident that she will at least be in the places. Last time out at Royal Ascot, Verdana Blue ran a mighty race to finish second in the 2m 4f Ascot Stakes, there is no doubt that she had the race won but the petrol tank just ran empty late inside the final furlong.
Freshened up since and back to a more ideal trip, I expect Verdana Blue to perform well. Like most jumpers she would like a drop of rain to further ease the ground. She ticks a lot of boxes for me and has a strong chance on all known form.

4:10 – Julia Graves Stakes –
Selection: Politics

It’s a trappy little 5F 2yo listed contest to solve here where you could give nearly all the ten runners some sort of a chance. I was quite taken by how Politics broke his maiden at Sandown two weeks ago.
Qatar Racing’s Muhaarar Colt eased clear to win by a couple of lengths in what looked a decent maiden with the runner up winning well at Bath a couple of days ago. For the red-hot combination of Andrew Balding and Oisin Murphy he represents a bit of value against the favourite. The more the ground firms up the better for Politics’ chances. He will need to step up again but I believe Politics is
progressing nicely and will be bang there in the closing stages.

Chris –

1.50 Sky Bet And Symphony Group Strensall Stakes

Dark Vision has done little wrong in four starts this season, with form figures of 2121, winning the Hunt Cup and the listed Pomfret Stakes and a close 2nd to Thursday’s winner, Montatham. On ratings he needs a little more today, but is clearly a horse back in love with the game after a below par 2019 and a bold show would not surprise.

3.00 Sky Bet City Of York Stakes

One Master has been a superstar for connections over the years, and it’s easy to see why this mare is loved by plenty of supporters. She put a pair of disappointing runs behind her when landing the Oak Tree Stakes 3 weeks ago, the win all the more impressive given the lack of racing room in the closing stages. She now has four wins in a row over today’s trip, including twice at Group 1 level over in France. I expect One Master to have too much class for her rivals here and any rain will only boost her chances.

Final Word with Rich –

I want to finish the week strongly and I also have one eye on Deauville tomorrow where they hold a pair of Group 1 races (Prix Morny & Prix Jean Romanet) alongside a Group 2 & 3 contest on a fantastic card, so I have one from France today too alongside my 2 from York….

1.50 Strensall Stakes – Group 3 – 3yo Plus -1m 177yds….

Dark Vision – Dream Ahead x Black Dahlia 4yo colt.
2 wins & 2 runner up spots from 4 runs this season. Beaten a head by Sir Busker in a Newcastle 1m Class 2 Handicap on June 2nd before beating Montatham in a 1m Ascot Class 2 Handicap before finishing 2nd to Montatham in a Sandown 1m Class 2 Handicap on July 5th.
Made it 2 wins from 4 when landing a Pontefract Class 1 Listed Stakes from Beringer on July 23rd.
Montatham won on Thursday & Sir Busker was 2nd in the Class 2 Heritage Handicap….

3.00 City of York Stakes – Group 3 – 3yo Plus – 7f….

One Master – Fastnet Rock x Enticing 6yo Mare.
The dual Prix De La Foret Group 1 winner bounced back to form last time out on her 3rd start of 2020. She started the season over 6f at Ascot in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes in June. Finished 6th by 1 length over 1m in the Falmouth Fillies’ Group 1 at Newmarket on June 10th before taking a drop in grade to Group 3 company at Goodwood, landing the Oak Tree 7f Stakes by a short head on July 31st…

Deauville – Heavy

1.35 Prix de la Nonette – Group 2 – 3yo Only – 1m 2f…

Tawkeel – Teofilo x Rafaadah filly.
Winner of 2 all weather 1m races in early 2020. Returned on May 2th at this course to win the De Lormoy Stakes over 1m 1f 97yds by a head before making it 4 from 4 in the Group 1 Prix Alary 1m 2f at Chantilly on yielding ground on June 24th to stroll to a 5 length victory…

That is everything for you today folks, be sure to pop back tomorrow for the French Group 1 racing… Thanks for your support….
A big thanks to Jamie & Chris for their contributions this week and we look forward to seeing them again very soon.

Remember to keep your stakes small or just watch the racing unfold on the TV.

Good Luck from the Arseonlineracing Team

York – Ebor Festival – Day Three

Welcome to Arseonlineracing’s coverage of York’s Ebor Festival.
This website is 100% independent & has NO affiliate links, curated by 2 racing enthusiasts from either end of the British Isles. Charlie hails from Glasgow while Rich is from the Isle of Wight, miles apart but united by the sport of kings….

Another fantastic day’s racing at the Knavesmire, with double classic winner Love adding another Oaks to her growing collection & today we have the fastest horse over 5f Battaash!!

We had technical difficulties yesterday as the site has updated & we are still getting to grips with the new layout & format, so fingers crossed!

The going at York is…… Good

Charlie –

2.15 Enhibaar – Out of Redoutes Choice and Chanterelle, has had 11 career runs winning 6 times and placing 3 times. The wins have came at Kempton, Goodwood x3, Haydock and Doncaster on ground ranging from Firm to Good to Soft. Has only had 2 runs this year beginning with a 4th place finish at Newmarket on the 9th July in the Group 2 Princess of Wales Tattershall Stakes over 1m 4f, behind winner Dame Malliot, 2nd placed Communique and Desert Encounter. Was sent to Goodwood on the 1st August and won the Class 1 Group 2 Qatar Lille Langtry Stakes over 1m 6f, beating Cabaletta by 3 and 1/2 lengths with Snow a further 10 lengths adrift in 3rd. If showing up in same mood should be in the mix again today stepping up in trip to 2m 56y.

2.45 Minzaal – Out of Mehmas and Pardoven, has had 2 starts winning once, was 4th on debut at Ascot on the 25th July behind winner Mohawk King, Churchill Bay who was beaten a head and Mayaas who was a neck behind in 3rd. Next race was at Salisbury on the 9th August when beating Marlay Park by 3 and 1/4 lengths with Yuan Prince a further length and 1/4 behind in 3rd. With that win under the belt should know what’s required today, although this is a stronger race and a step up in class, Jim Crowley will use his experience to settle him down before making his move in closing stages.

3.45 Rushmore – Out of Lope De Vega and Qushchi, cost 500k guineas as a yearling, has only had 1 run and finished a well beaten 7th at Newbury over 7f on the 18th July after setting off as favourite, race report said held up in rear and ran green hanging left over 1f out. Andrew Balding is a good trainer and will have worked on that at home prior to today’s race, partnered with Oisin Murphy again today and could easily progress beyond current mark of 77.

Jamie –

1:45 – Sky Bet Handicap –
Selection: Zabeel Champion

This looks to be a good chance for Mark Johnston’s Zabeel Champion to register a third win from five starts. This son of Poet’s Voice has been running well since racing resumed from lockdown.
After a modest performance at Yarmouth where he just needed the run,
Zabeel Champion notched up back to back wins at Newmarket, the most recent being a good quality handicap at the July Festival. Goodwood was next on his agenda where he just found a well handicapped horse too strong late home, but it was still a good performance. The step up a furlong at 1m 3f shouldn’t be a problem and the Johnston stable is in fine form. Big chance.

2:15 – Weatherbys Hamilton Lonsdale Cup –
Selection: Dashing Willoughby (Nap)

With no Stradivarius to contend with this year the door is wide open for some smart stayers to bag this G2 prize. Enbihaar is a very worthy favourite who gets the 3lb weight allowance for Fillies. While Nayef Road has finished second at Ascot and Goodwood to the mighty Stradivarius this term and is sure to go well. However, with the ground being on soft side I will take a chance on the improving Dashing Willoughby, who is seeking a hat trick this season. Andrew
Balding’s charge comes into this race on the back of a G3 win over this trip at Sandown, he looks a bigger and better horse this season and there could well yet be more to come. On ratings he is right in the mix and any more rain that falls, the better for him. My nap of the day.

3:15 – Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes –
Selection: Battaash
Yes, I know, an obvious choice in the big race on day 3 of the Ebor Festival. Battaash has taken his form to new levels this season and should win a second straight Nunthorpe, even if the ground has some cut in it. Without the crowd Battaash is a calmer and more focussed horse.
I look through this field and I don’t see any horse bar Art Power that can give him a race. Ornate can give the bat-mobile a tow into the race, so that makes Jim Crowley’s job a little bit easier.
Hopefully the ground will dry out some more and Battaash can add to his King Stand’ and King George wins in 2020. This isn’t a great betting heat. So, sit down and enjoy the festival of speed!

Chris –

2.15 weatherbys Hamilton Lonsdale Cup

Enbihaar has been a progressive mare over the past two seasons for John Gosden, and now tackles her toughest assignment to date as she steps up to 2 miles. She also faces the consistent and front-runner Nayef Road here, who will ensure there is no hiding place for this daughter of Redoute’s Choice.  Enbihaar hasn’t looked like stopping over 14f, landing a trio of Group 2’s and must run well if the course avoids any significant rain.

2.45 Al Basti Equiworld Gimcrack Stakes

Mohawk King was a good winner of what is usually an above average Maiden race at Ascot last month, he only won a head, but this son of Siyouni wasn’t the quickest away, before closing down the leaders on the run-in.  The fourth that day, Minzaal, has since won at Salisbury and they lock horns once more here.  I expect both to be key players, with the Richard Hannon trained charge to come out on top once again.

Final Word with Rich –

2.45 Gimcrack Stakes – Group 2 – 2yo Only – 6f….

Yazaman – Kodiac x Online Alexander colt.
Debut 5f win by 1 length at Yarmouth in a Class 5 Maiden on June 11th, Beaten 1 & 1/4 lengths in 2nd to Tactical in the 5f Class 1 listed Windsor Castle at Ascot & finished 2nd again to the same horse, with the same distance beaten in Group 2 July Stakes at Newmarket, when stepping up to 6f on July 9th.
Finished 2nd again, last time out, on July 30th at Goodwood in the Group 2 Richmond Stakes to Supremacy by 4 lengths…

3.45 Maiden Stakes – Class 2 – 2yo Only – 7f….

Tawleed – Exceed & Excel x Terhaad colt.
Runner up over 6f in a Goodwood Class 2 Maiden on race course debut, beaten by 2 & 1/4 lengths on July 28th. Up in trip.

4.15 Fillies’ Handicap – Class 2 – 3yo Plus – 1m 2f 56yds…

Aslaaf – New Approach x Baqqa 3yo.
won on 2nd start on June 14th in a 1m 2f Class 5 Fillies’ Novice Stakes by 1/2 a length. Runner up in the Super Fillies’ Class 2 Handicap at Sandown by 3/4’s of a length on July 5th. Stepped up to 1m 4f at Goodwood in a Class 3 Handicap, finishing a 2 length runner up….. Back to 1m 2f…

That is everything for you today folks… Thanks for your support & for popping by…

York – Ebor Festival – Day Two

Hello and welcome to ArseonlineRacing’s coverage of the Ebor Festival from York. This website is 100% independent & has NO affiliate Links, curated by 2 racing enthusiasts from either end of the British Isles.
Charlie hails from Glasgow while Rich is from the Isle of Wight, miles part but united by the sport of kings…..

A good day’s racing yesterday & are we ready for more? Today’s highlight is the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks. Ghaiyyath landed yesterday’s Group 1 Juddmonte International with another fine front running display to make it 3 Group 1 wins for the season!

Today we are joined by a guest or two, who will be the filling in the sandwich between Charlie & Rich, after we have a quick recap of yesterday’s thoughts…

Charlie –
Rich – Darain & Mutazawwed (Unplaced)

So let’s crack on & see who & what we have for you!

Charlie –

Jamie –

2:15 – Goffs UK Premier Yearling Stakes –

Selection: Talbot (e/w)
This is as usual impossible to predict. There are so many unexposed and more exposed horses in with chances here over the straight 6F.
A horse that jumps out to me is Brian Meehan’s colt Talbot. Having taken in the Coventry stakes at Royal Ascot and the Richmond at Goodwood, Talbot has some smart form in the book and is obviously highly thought of at home. He wasn’t completely disgraced in either race. In-between those runs in Group races Talbot took in the 25 runner Super Sprint at Newbury, where he was unlucky not to finish closer than a six length eleventh.
If Talbot can break from the gates much sharper than last time and get into a good position, then there are surely worse each way bets this week. Oisin Murphy in the saddle is a big plus too.

3:45 – Sir Henry Cecil Galtres Stakes –

Selection: Sea of Faith
She will need a bit of luck from stall 11 but I am very sweet on Sea of Faith in this listed contest. The powerful Haggas / Doyle combination team up with this relatively unexposed 4yo Filly. We haven’t seen the daughter of Sea the Stars in just over a year when she easily won a class 2 Fillies Handicap at Salisbury. William Haggas is pitching her in here on her seasonal bow in what to me looks a race that will suit her well with a good gallop up front seeming likely. She has winning form on soft ground, so if the rain does fall a plenty then do not worry. Race fitness may be a concern, however I expect to see that a patient approach from the team around Sea of Faith will pay off. She has an obvious chance of winning this.

Chris –

2.45 Clipper Logistics Handicap

Montatham has continued to progress through the summer, landing his fourth career win from nine starts last time out. This son of Showcasing held off Dark Vision who has won at listed level since to give the form a boost. He has a 4lb’s higher mark to contend with here, but it’s hard to believe he’s reached the limit of his ability just yet.

3.45 British EBF & Sir Henry Cecil Galtres StakesGold Wand ran a fine race in defeat here at York last month, finishing a close second to Franconia at listed level. The pair pulled more than 4 lengths clear in the final furlong and she looks ready for this step up to 12f today. Gold Wand receives weight from several of her older rivals and must be bang there at the finish.

Final Word with Rich –

2.15 Premier Yearling Stakes – Class 2 – 2yo Only – 6f

Devious Company – Fast Company x Seren Devious colt.
Landed a pair of Haydock 7f Class 5 races before finishing a 3 length runner up in the Group 2 on July 11th in the Superlative Stakes & was again to Battleground in the 7f Vintage Stakes, Group 2 at Goodwood last time out. Now tries 6f for the first time….

2.45 Handicap (Heritage) Class 2 – 3yo Plus – 7f 192yds

Montatham – Showcasing x Eastern Destiny 4yo gelding.
2 wins from 3 starts this season, all over 1m. Landed a Class 3 Newmarket Handicap on June 6th by 3 lengths before finishing 2nd to Dark Vision in the Class 2 Royal Hunt Cup Handicap at Ascot before reversing the form in the Class 2 Challenge Handicap at Sandown on July 5th. Jim Crowley was on board for both wins & is in the plate today….

4.20 Nursery – Class 2 – 2yo Only – 7f

Basilicata – Iffaaj x Policoro filly.
2 wins & 2 runner up spots from 4 runs since debut win.Landed a Class 2 Fillies’ 7f Handicap on August 1st by 1/2 a length from an opening mark of 82, now runs from 86. First start against the colts….

That is everything for you today folks… Thanks for popping by & for your support…

York – Ebor Festival – Day One

Hello and welcome to ArseonlineRacing’s coverage of the Ebor Festival from York. This website is 100% independent & has NO affiliate Links, curated by 2 racing enthusiasts from either end of the British Isles.
Charlie hails from Glasgow while Rich is from the Isle of Wight, miles part but united by the sport of kings…..

A cracking week of racing is instore for us all with the first day staging the Group 1 Juddmonte International among the card… Let’s get started!

The going at York is…. Good – Good to Soft in Places….

Final Word with Rich –

Thanks Charlie, it looks a fantastic week we have ahead of us so let’s see what’s on offer on Day 1….

2.45 Great Voltigeur Stakes – Group 2 -3yo Only – 1m 3f 188yds….

Darain – Dubawi x Do Re Mi colt.
Debut on July 8th at Newbury in a Class 5 1m 2f Novice Stakes, powering clear with 2f to go, winning by 4 & 3/4 lengths. Headed to Newmarket on July 24th, in a 1m 2f Class 5 Novice Stakes, winning under a penalty by 2 & 1/4 lengths. Making it 2 wins from 2 starts. Trainer John Gosden is treading the same path as last season with Logician, who went to the St Leger…..
DANGER – Mogul – Galileo x Shastye colt.
Leopardstown 1m Juvenile Group 2 winner last season. Started this season with a 4th place in the Group 2 1m 4f Kin Edward Stakes at Ascot, finished 6th in the Derby at Epsom on July 4th before winning the 1m 4f Group 3 Gordon Richards Stakes at Goodwood on July 30th…..

3.15 Juddmonte International Stakes – Group 1- 3yo Plus – 1m 2f 56yds…

Ghaiyyath – Dubawi x Nightime 5yo Horse.
5 from 5 over 1m 2f. Beat Enable in the Group 1 Eclipse at Sandown last time out. Top rated127

Lord North – Dubawi x Najoum 4yo gelding.
3 from 3 over 1m 2f and won the Group 1 Prince of Wales’ Stakes at Ascot on June 17th. Rated 124.

Magical – Galileo x Halfway to Heaven 5yo Mare.
7 from9 over 1m 2f & 2 runner up spots to Enable & Crystal Ocean. Won the Group 1 Gold Cup at the Curragh on July 26th & receives 3Lb for being a female. Rated 122….

add to this the 2,000 Guineas winner Kameko – Kittens Joy x Sweeter Still 3yo colt, who has been unlucky the last couple of runs, has 3Lb on the 2 older horses & can consider himself unfortunate in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood…

I think if Ghaiyyath is allowed to dictate he wins, with the other highlighted in behind. Kameko adds more spice to the contest & with 3YO’s winning 4 of the last 6 running’s of this race you may think I would go that way too…. I mention Lord North & Magical as i believe they will finish 2 & 3 but it could be either or for the Runner’s up spot!

4.50 Nursery – Class 2 – 2yo Only – 6f….

Mutazawwed – Muhaarar x Muteela colt.
6f Class 5 maiden winner at Lingfield on the All weather on 2nd start on June 19th. Finished 3rd of 5 to Twaasol by 3 & 1/4 lengths in a 6f Class 2 Conditions Stakes at Epsom on July 4th.

2.50 Prix du Haras de Fresney-le-Buffarol-Jacques le marois – Group 1 3yo Plus – 1m……

This is a fantastic field, with a pair of 120 Top rated runners, 3yo Palace Pier – Kingman x Beach Frolic colt & Circus Maximus – Galileo x Duntle 4yo colt alongside (118) Romanised – Holy Roman Emperor x Romantic Venture 5yo colt, (117) Alpine Star – Sea the Moon x Alpha Lupi 3yo filly, who are taking on French Group 1 winner 9115) Persian King – Kingman x Pretty Please 4yo colt, Group 3 winner Pretreville – Acclamation x Pegase Hurry 5yo colt & Listed winner Restiany – Frankel x Restiadourgent 3yo colt.

4 of them carry top weight of 9s 4lbs, Circus Maximus, Romanised, Persian King & Pretreville, while Palace Pier & Restiany carry 8s 12lbs due to 3yo allowance & Alpine Star runs with just 8s 9lb on her back with filly & age allowance….

Last time out winners

Palace Pier is the only unbeaten runner in the field with a perfect 4 from 4, including 2 wins at 1m, which included the 1m Group 1 St James’ Palace Stakes at Ascot on June 20th by 1 length from Pinatubo, who has since won the 7f Group 1 Prix Jean Prat.
Persian King won the 1m 1f Group 1 Prix D’Ispahan by 2 lengths from Stormy Antarctic on July 19th at Chantilly & now drops back a furlong..
Romanised won this race last season and won on season return in a 7f Group 2 at the Curragh by 1 & 3/4 lengths from Lancaster House on July 18th.
Restiany landed a 1m Listed Stakes at Saint-Cloud on June 28th by 1 & 1/2 lengths from Twist & Steps up in Class.

Runners up Last Time…..

Alpine Star was beaten over 1m 2f in the Group 1 Fillies’ Prix De Diane on July 5th at Chantilly by Fancy Blue, who has since landed the Nassau Fillies’ Stakes at Goodwood with 4th placed Raabihah winning a Deauville Group 3… Form Franked!
Circus Maximus was beaten by 3/4’s of a length by Mohaather on July 29th in the 1m Group 1 Sussex Stakes at Goodwood, having won the Queen Anne 1m Group 1 at Ascot in June.
Pretreville was a 1 & 1/2 lengths 2nd to Persian King on June 28th in the Saint-Cloud Group 2 Prix Du Muget….

Winners over 1m…
Palace Pier 2 from 2
Romanised 2 from 8
Alpine Star 1 from 1
Persian King 6 from 8
Circus Maximus 4 from 9
Pretreville 7 from 9
Restiany 2 from 3

Winners on Heavy Ground….

Persian King & Circus Maximus are both heavy ground winners, while Alpine Star & Romanised have both won on Yielding ground. Pretreville has placed on heavy ground with the rest of the field untried on the ground, having done their racing on Good, Good to Soft or Good to Firm ground…..

In Summary….

I think that both Pretreville &Restiany are both likely to be out classed in this field, with Romanised & Circus Maximus both too inconsistent, so that leaves Alpine Star, who will stay 1m 2f and this is only a mile and carrying the lest weight but is against the boys. Palace Pier is untried on the ground but runs hard to the line so I think the ground will be fine for him as well as Persian King and these 3 will fight out the finish.

3.25 Prix Nureyev – Listed Stakes – 3yo Only- 1m 2f…

Vardani – Charm Spirit x Visorama colt.
Has 2 wins from2 starts and landed a 1m 1 & 1/2f Stakes at Chateaubriant on July 9th by 2 lengths and is likely to go off as Favourite….

Now We Know – Kendargent x Now Forever gelding.
Winner of 2 races from 3 starts this term and won a 1m 2f stakes race at Lion D’angers by 2 lengths on July 16th.

Dawn Intello – Intello x Gadalka colt.
Drops from Group 1 company having finished 4th by 3 lengths in the Prix Du Jockey Club, won by Mishreff, who won again yesterday.

But I prefer Quos – Dubawi x Treve colt.
Finished 5th on debut over 1m 2f in a Chantilly maiden on June 19th before winning on second start at the same course in a 1m 2f stakes race on July 17th by a short head…..

4.00 Prix Minerve – Fillies’ Group 3 – 3yo Only – 1m 4f 96yds…

4 UK & Irish raiders in this 9 runner field with Laburnum- Galileo x Secret Garden (A. O’Brien), Oriental Mystique – Kingman x Madame Chiang (D. Simcock), Born with Price – Born to Sea x Jumooh ( W. Haggas) & Wonderful Tonight – Le Havre x Salvation (D. Menuisier) take on Hideka – Deep Impact x Royalmania, who was 4th by 3/4’s of a length to Qous (See race above) on season return (July 17th) and now steps up an extra 2 furlongs, while Valia – Sea the Stars x Veda has 2 wins from 2 starts over this distance & landed a Longchamp Listed stakes on July 23rd by 2 & 1/2 lengths from Wonderful Tonight, who along with Laburnham, the Irish Oaks 4th & landed a listed 1m 1 & 1/2f race at Gowran on August 12th are the most likely challengers….
Valia wins for me….

That is everything for you today folks… Thanks for popping by and for your support, it means a lot to us….

Returning with a Bang?!

Hello and welcome back to Arseonlineracing. This website is 100% Independent & has NO affiliate links. Curated by 2 racing enthusiasts from either end of the British Isles, Charlie hails from Glasgow while Rich is from the Isle of Wight… Although miles apart we are united by the sport of kings…..

We are back after a week away & with the website having been tidied up and looking all spick & span thanks to Charlie’s hard work.

Charlie will be covering the UK races while Rich takes on the 3 Group races over at Deauville, so let’s get started….

Charlie

Newbury

3.00 Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Geoffrey Freer Stakes (Group 3) over 1m 5f and 61y.

Alignac -Has had 2 runs this year, beginning with winning a Class 3 handicap over 1m 4f and 98y at Newcastle on the 1st June when beating Good Tidings by 3/4 of a length with Anythingtoday a further 2 and 1/4 lengths adrift in 3rd. Was sent to Haydock for latest Class 1 Listed race over 1m 3f and 175y, on the 17th July when beaten a short head by Trueshan with Mountain Hunter a further 3 lengths behind in 3rd. If repeating form shown in those last 2 runs should be enough to return to the winners enclosure today.

5.55 Gas Monkey-Has had 3 runs this year, finishing 7th at Newmarket over 1m 4f in a Class 3 Handicap on the 5th June, returned to Newmarket on the 26th June and finished 3rd behind Fox Vardy and Thaqaffa over 1m 4f. Was sent to Sandown for latest run  over 1m 1f and 209y on the 23rd July and finished a 5 length 2nd to Blue Cup with Knowing in 3rd. Although hasn’t won since August 2019 Gas Monkey did win this race in 2019 and if repeating that should be enough to be in the mix again today.

Newmarket

2.40 Karibana– Has won last 2 starts beginning with a short head victory at Newbury over Inhalation on the 19th July with Top Secret a further length and 3/4 behind in 3rd. Won again on the 1st August at Newmarket when beating Rodin by 1 and 3/4 lengths with Stoweman a further 3 and 1/4 lengths behind in 3rd. Has been raised 6lb for those wins and that may not be enough to halt the hat-trick.

.

5.00 Believe In Love – Has finished 2nd twice and won twice in last 4 starts, the 2nd places came at Lingfield when going down by a head to Goddess Of Fire on the 1st February, was beaten a head again on next start at Lingfield on the 25th February by Glorious Caeser. Was sent to Kempton on the 11th March and beat Sophar Sogood by a nose with Soldier on Parade a further 2 and 3/4 lengths behind in 3rd. Won again on the 28th July at Goodwood when beating Asiaaf by 2 lengths with Dancing Approach a further 4 and 1/2 lengths behind in 3rd. If turning up in same frame of mind should be in the mix again today.

Well that’s my thoughts on today’s selections, good luck if following and please remember to keep stakes small so it doesn’t hurt your pockets. I will now hand you back over to Rich for the Final Word.

Final Word with Rich –

Last weekend was poor by my standards & I couldn’t buy a winner for a toffee but this is a new week and I am feeling refreshed and ready to go….
I have covered the 3 Group races at Deauville, which is the starter for the BIG race on Sunday… The going is Soft!

1.35 Prix Guillaume D’ornano Stakes – Group 2 – 3yo Only – 1m 2f….

The first 3 home in the Group 1 Prix Du Jockey Club (1m 2f 96yds) on July 5th all go again in this race, with runner up The Summit & 3rd Victor Ludorum looking to turn the form with winner Mishreff.
Lets start with Victor Ludorum – Shamardal x Antiquites 3yo colt, was 3rd to Mishreff last time out having previously finished 2 & 1/2 lengths 3rd to The Summit on season return on May 11th at Longchamp in the Group 3 Prix Fontainebleau before reversing the form at Chantilly on June 1st in the 1m Group 1 Poule D’Assai Des Poulains by 1 & 1/2 lengths before the step up in trip.

The Summit – Wootton Bassett x Acola 3yo colt, 2nd to Mishreff on July 5th having had the 2 previous runs against Victor Ludorum (see above).

Mishreff – Make Believe x Contradict 3yo colt. Top rated 117. Having won his maiden at the 3rd attempt at Nottingham in a Class 5 1m Maiden by 10 lengths back in November and began 202 by stepping up to 1m 2f on June 6th in a Listed race at Newmarket, beating Volkan Star by 4 lengths, who has since won a Group 3 & Listed race, while 5th Al Aasy is also a Group 3 winner. 2 from 2 over 1m 2f. Stepped up to Group 1 company with ease to land the Prix Du Jockey Club, with Jockey Frankie Dettori facing 14 days quarantine when he returns to the UK & the one to beat on previous form…..

2.50 Prix Gountant-brion Hong Kong Jockey Club – Group 3 – 4yo Plus – 1m 2f…

Sottsass – Siyouni x Startlet’s Sister 4yo colt. Last season’s Arc 3rd started 2020 by finishing 4th by 1 & 3/4 lengths to Shaman at Longchamp on May 11th in the Group 2 Prix D’Harcourt (1m 2f) before heading to Chantilly on July 11th in the 1m 2f Group 1 Prix Ganay, winning from Way to Paris by a head, who has since landed the Group 1 Grand Prix De Saint-Cloud….
The DANGER is likely to come from Motamaris – Le Harve x Thamarat 4yo colt, who was beaten 4 lengths by Sottsass in last season’s Prix Du Jockey Club last June having previously been unbeaten and didn’t return this season until June, when winning a 1m 2f Listed Stakes at Compiegne. Finished a 3 &1/4 length 4th to Persian King last month in the Group 1 Prix D’Ispahan. Top rated 112.

3.25 Prix De Lieurey Stakes (Fillies’) – Group 3 – 3yo Only – 7f…

The Brits are in full force for this race, with Top rated 109 Cloak of Spirits (R. Hannon), Parent’s Prayer (A. Watson), Onasiss (C. Fellowes) & Althiqa (C. Appleby) all looking to take the spoils but the Favourite is from France….
Simeen – Lope De Vega x Samadrissa 3yo filly. A winner on season return over 1m at Chantilly in May before finishing well down the field, 8th of 12 in the Group 1 Poule D’Essai Des Poullches (Fillies’) before landing a 1m Saint-Cloud Listed Stakes on June 28th by 3 & 1/2 lengths. Won over 7f twice as a 2yo.

For me, the best of the Brits abroad is Althiqa – Dark Angel x Mistrusting 3yo filly. I put this filly up in the Group 3 7f Oak Tree Stakes at Goodwood, when finished 3rd by 1 length, having landed a Deauville 7f Listed Stakes on July 12th by a short head & Charlie Appleby loves to win in France. I see no reason to change my mind…..

That is everything for you today folks… Thanks for your support & for popping by, we really appreciate it.

Remember to keep your stakes small or just watch the top racing on TV

Dubai Mirage (Nb) -3 Yr old Gelding out of Dubawi and Calipatria, has had 4 career starts beginning with a nose defeat at the hands of Native Tribe at Sandown on the 8th August last year over 1m. Was then sent to York on the 23rd August and finished 3rd behind winner Molatham and Celtic Art over 7f. Next venue was at Kempton on the 12th June this year, when winning a Class 5 over 1m, beating Swinley Forrest by 4 and 1/2 lengths with Bring Him Home a neck behind in 3rd. Most recently was well beaten at Royal Ascot in the Class 2 Brittany Stakes Handicap, which was won by Khaloosy with Finest Sound and Cherokee Trail filling the places. If repeating form shown in the 3 races prior to that run at Ascot should be enough to claim today’s race. WINNER

.

Newmarket

3.20 Class 1 Group 3 over 7f (Fillies)

Dubai Fountain (Nap) – 2yr old Fillie out of Teofilo and Nafura, has had 3 starts so far winning twice and placing 2nd in the other. The wins came at Doncaster and Haydock with the 2nd place coming at Sandown. Won on debut at Doncaster over 7f and 6y on the 14th June this year, when beating She Do by 1 length with Steely Queen a further 9 and 1/2 lengths behind in 3rd. Won again at Haydock over 6f and 212y on the 4th July when beating Amasova by 8 and 1/2 lengths with Galah a further length and 1/4 behind in 3rd place. Sandown was next port of call and Dubai was beaten a length into 2nd by Fev Rover with Setarhe a head behind in 3rd in a Class 1 listed race over 7f. Dubai Fountain likes to front run and if given an early lead, may be hard to peg back, main danger to the selection comes from the in form Hannon yard in Fly Miss Helen who won on debut at Newbury on the 18th July over 6f. Runner Up

.

5.10 Betway Handicap Class 2 over 1m 2f

Data Protection (3B) -5yr old Gelding who won here on the 25th July this year when beating Away He Goes by 2 and 1/4 lengths with Nicklaus a further 7 lengths adrift in 3rd over 1m 3f in a Class 3 Handicap. That was Data Protections 2nd win here as had previously won on the 27th September last year when beating Escape The City by 3 and 1/2 lengths with First Flight a further 3 lengths adrift in 3rd that was over 1m 1f. Although isn’t a prolific winner as has only won 7 times from 32 races, Data Protection has won 2 races on the spin before although that was back in 2018. Biggest danger comes in the shape of Emissary who won on debut at Wolverhampton on the 12th October last year, finished 2nd at Goodwood in next race on the 14th June this year before being well beaten next time out in the Epsom Derby.

.

Well that’s my lot for today, good luck if following and please remember to keep Stakes small so it doesn’t hurt your pockets. I will now hand you back over to Rich for the Final Word.

Charlie –

3.35 Stewards Cup Class 2 Handicap over 6f

Nahaarr – Out of Dark Angel and Charlotte Rua. Won 4 times last season and looked very comfortable with every run. Has had 3 starts in 2020 so far finishing 4th at Newmarket on the 6th June when 3 lengths behind winner Blown By Wind over 7f in a class 2. Was then sent to Ascot on the 20th June when finishing a good 3rd in the Silver Wokingham handicap over 6f. Made amends for that in next start over 6f at Newbury on the 19th July when beating Watan by 2 and 1/4 lengths with Recon Mission a short head behind in 3rd. The ability is there for all to see and if In same mindset as last time could easily rack up another winning sequence, biggest dangers to the selection come in the shape of Merass who has won 3 times in 5 starts, the other danger is Watan who has already been beaten by Nahaarr.

.

5.10 LG Signature Apprentice Handicap over 1m 1f 11y

Muraad – Out of Dark Angel and Hidden Girl, has had 7 career starts winning once and placing in another 5 of those races. Has ran twice in 2020 finishing 2nd on both occasions. The first of those came at Sandown on the 13th June when beaten 2 lengths by Solid Stone with Exec Chef a further 2 and 3/4 lengths behind in 3rd. Most recently was beaten 1 length by Orbaan over 7f 192y at York on the 9th July with Tadleel a length behind in 3rd place. With a repeat of form shown in last 2 races Muraad could go in again with the booking of Cieren Fallon a positive. Winner

Chris –

Goodwood

3.00 Lillie Langtry Stakes

I’m hoping for Snow on the final day of Glorious Goodwood in this tricky four-runner Group 2. The sister to high class stayer Kew Gardens landed the Munster Oaks last month before a fair fifth under front running tactics in the Irish Oaks a fortnight ago. She will need to show more today against the principles, but she looks ready for this step up in trip and it would not surprise were she to land the spoils today. Unplaced

3.35 Stewards Cup

Once again this is a fiendishly tricky puzzle to solve but I’m sticking with Meraas after a comfortable win in the Scottish Stewards Cup last time. Up 6lb for that but still could have more in the locker on what will only be his sixth start. Has a handy draw in stall 4 and 3yo’s have taken this in three of the past five running’s. He’s not been missed in the betting, but should be bang there if continuing his upwards curve. 6th

Jamie –

Goodwood

3:35 – Unibet Stewards Cup –
Selection: Watan

As usual, the Stewards Cup is a minefield. There is several tempting each – way propositions but I am going to stick with a horse who I believe has been specially trained for this very race. Watan makes plenty of appeal with some good-looking form in the book.
He is a C+D winner and has not been beaten too far by the likes of Too Darn Hot in the Prix Jean Prat last year (6 3/4l). Richard Hannon opted to give him a prep run at Newbury two weeks ago when Watan travelled well into the race but just found the favourite for today’s contest Nahaarr too strong in the final 150yds.
It was a great effort
considering it was his first race in just over a year, if he has improved for that run then he should be right there on all known form, he is a classy individual. Ryan Moore getting the leg up is a major plus for his supporters. Unplaced

4:10 – Qatar Handicap –
Selection: Cold Front NON RUNNER

An open looking 3yo handicap and I like the chances of Cold Front to continue the red-hot form of the Marquand / Haggas combination.
The selection here has been running well since racing resumed from lockdown. A pair of seconds was followed by a comfortable four length win at Haydock to break his maiden. This is a hike in class, but he looks to be feasibly weighted on his handicap bow. Fast ground is a little bit of an unknown but Cold Front ran well at Yarmouth on good ground so there is hope he will handle it. He must have an obvious chance for an inform team.
