Not the best day at Haydock, with only 1 winner as the rain came in spades and changed the going… The extra from Doncaster won too, so 2 winners on the day…
Having gone through the UK & Irish cards, we are taking a trip to France!

It was fantastic to see ITV covering the meeting at Newmarket on TV yesterday and it will be on TV again today, so set your boxes to record the action…

A quick recap of yesterday before I delve into day two of the Craven meeting & the big race, the Craven Stakes at 3.35..

Artic Sound – Unplaced…. Danger – Shine So Bright WINNER
Western Australia & Kadar – Unplaced
Qabala – WINNER…

Not a bad day, with Qabala put up & winning with a gamble from 13/2 into 3/1 Favourite!

I wonder if that was all the money coming in from our new German readers… It seems we are now as popular in Germany as David Hasslehoff!

Newmarket 18/04/06
Newmarket 18/04/06

Newmarket… Good to Firm…

3.00… Abernant Stakes… Group 3… 6f…

Brando… Has won this race for the last 2 years. Has a habit of winning first time out having done so for the last 4 seasons and has a fine record at Newmarket, with 3 wins from 3 runs and is 2 from 2 over C&D. Newmarket – Nell Gwyn Day

Hello and welcome to arseonlineracing. A 100% independent racing website with NO affiliate links, curated by 2 racing enthusiasts from either end of the British Isles. Charlie hails from Glasgow while Rich is from the Isle of Wight… Miles apart but united by the sport of kings…

Charlie is still away, so you will have to make do with my thoughts….

The flat season is now in full swing and today we head to Newmarket for 2 days of very good racing… I have thoughts on 3 races for you all….

Newmarket

2.25… Handicap… Class 1 Listed… 3YO Only… 7f..

Arctic Sound…. Winner of the Group 3 Somerville Stakes over C&D by 1 length from Bye Bye Hong Kong when last seen in September, that was the 4th win from 6 starts as a 2YO. Has to give weight away to the field today but has only finished outside the first 2 once in the 6 runs. Top rated 110….

DANGER… Shine So Bright... Has 4Lb from Artic Sound but has only won once from 5 runs last season. Placed twice(3rd) in Group 2 company last season when running over 6f. Now steps up in trip and was last seen finishing 3rd of 7 to Kessaar by 5 lengths in the Mill Reef at Newbury in September…

3.00… Feileden Stakes… Class 1 Listed… 3YO Only… 1m 1f…

Western Australia…. This is the best form on offer, finishing 3rd to Persian King by 6 & 1/2 lengths in the Autumn Stakes(Persian King won on Sunday at Longchamp) and then was a 1 length runner up to Magna Grecia in the Futurity Stakes at Doncaster on final run of last season. Has already had a run this season finishing 2nd in a Dundalk 1m C1 Listed race on March 6th by 1/2 a length and is top rated 110. Western finished in front of Boerham in the Autumn Stakes and I cannot see that from being turned around today…

DANGER…. Kadar… I was really taken with Kadar when winning his debut in a class 4 1m Novice Stakes at Haydock on September 6th, He beat Waldstern (Brother to Waldgeist) by 1 & 1/4 lengths and now takes a big step up in class on seasonal return and if tuned up will be a big danger to Western Australia…

3.35… Nell Gwyn Stakes… Fillies’ Group 3… 3YO Only… 7f…

Charlie Appleby won this race last season & has 2 runners in this years renewal, Nashirah is the choice of William Buick(1st Choice) and has spent the winter in Meydan, was last seen in January. The other Appleby runner is Orchid Star with James Doyle on Board. She is 2 from 2 in 2019 with both wins on the all weather, last time out at Newcastle over 1m in a C5 fillies’ Novice Stakes, winning by 3 lengths.

Main Edition won 4 of her 7 runs last season including the C&D Sweet Solario (Group 3) and the Albany Stakes (Group 3) at Ascot, both fillies’ races, reunited with Ryan Moore, who was on when making a winning race course debut. Likely to go from the front…

Just like Charlie Appleby… Roger Varian has 2 runners, he sends his Oh So Sharp (Group 3) C&D winner Mot Juste, who beat Angels Hideaway by 3/4’s of a length but my preference for this race is his other filly Qabala, who was a C&D winner on debut in a C4 Fillies’ Maiden by a head and that form has been boosted with 2nd, 3rd & 4th all winning next time out….

Recap of Sunday….

Persian King – Won
Rocques – Unplaced
Slalom – Won

That’s all for today folks, hopefully this has helped you and I look forward to seeing you all for Day 2 of the Craven meeting….

The BIG Interview was Published on Sunday with George Baker, have a look if you have not read already…

All the best – Rich & Charlie

Group 3 day at Longchamp

Hello and welcome to arseonlineracing. A 100% independent racing website with NO affiliate links. This website is curated by 2 racing enthusiasts from either end of the British Isles, Charlie hails from Glasgow, while Rich is from the Isle of Wight… Miles apart but united by the sport of kings.

dominique-perrault-new-longchamp-racecourse-paris-france-designboom-01

I will be concentrating on the flat season for the moment. With no UK flat racing today and an all weather card at Dundalk, I have turned by attention to Longchamp in France, with 3 Group 3 races and the return of a couple of familiar faces to the race course…

1.35… Prix De Fontainebleau.. Group 3… 3YO Only… 1m…

Persian King… The Kingman colt, who is trained by Andre Fabre makes his seasonal return after being last seen winning the 1m Autumn Stakes(Group 3) at Newmarket in October. The win that day was by a neck from Magna Grecia, who won the Futurity Stakes at Doncaster. Persian King had already won twice last September at Chantilly prior to heading to Newmarket…

There is UK interest in this race with Paul Cole sending Duke of Hazzard, who is a Deauville 1m Listed winner by 1 & 1/2 lengths when last seen on October 24th…

2.50… Prix De La Grotle… Group 3… 1m…

Lily’s Candle is likely to go off Favourite for this race having won the Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac(Fillies’) over C&D back on October 7th before a below par run in the Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies’ when finishing 12th to Newspaperofrecord..

I prefer Rocques, who was a 2 length 6th to Lily’s Candle in the Marcel Boussac having landed a Group 3 over C&D in the D’aumale Stakes last September and prior to the defeat the Lawman Filly was 3 from 3 starts and I think that was a blip….

4.35… Prix Noailles.. Group 3… 3YO Only… 1m 2f 96yds…

Slalom… Not seen for 158 days after winning on the All Weather at Chantilly by 1/2 a length back in November over 1m 1f. That was the Intello Colts second run having won on race course debut in a 1m Clairefontaine maiden by a short head and now steps up in grade…

UK interest in this race with Joe Tuite sending Surrey Thunder, who was a runner up in a 1m Listed  at Saint-Cloud by a short head on March 26th to Talk or Listen having stepped up from landing a Windsor Class 5 1m Novice Stakes back in October by a head…
