Hello and welcome back to Arseonlineracing. This website is 100% Independent & has NO affiliate links. Curated by 2 racing enthusiasts from either end of the British Isles, Charlie hails from Glasgow while Rich is from the Isle of Wight… Although miles apart we are united by the sport of kings…..
We are back after a week away & with the website having been tidied up and looking all spick & span thanks to Charlie’s hard work.
Charlie will be covering the UK races while Rich takes on the 3 Group races over at Deauville, so let’s get started….
Charlie
Newbury
3.00 Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Geoffrey Freer Stakes (Group 3) over 1m 5f and 61y.
Alignac -Has had 2 runs this year, beginning with winning a Class 3 handicap over 1m 4f and 98y at Newcastle on the 1st June when beating Good Tidings by 3/4 of a length with Anythingtoday a further 2 and 1/4 lengths adrift in 3rd. Was sent to Haydock for latest Class 1 Listed race over 1m 3f and 175y, on the 17th July when beaten a short head by Trueshan with Mountain Hunter a further 3 lengths behind in 3rd. If repeating form shown in those last 2 runs should be enough to return to the winners enclosure today.
.
5.55 Gas Monkey-Has had 3 runs this year, finishing 7th at Newmarket over 1m 4f in a Class 3 Handicap on the 5th June, returned to Newmarket on the 26th June and finished 3rd behind Fox Vardy and Thaqaffa over 1m 4f. Was sent to Sandown for latest run over 1m 1f and 209y on the 23rd July and finished a 5 length 2nd to Blue Cup with Knowing in 3rd. Although hasn’t won since August 2019 Gas Monkey did win this race in 2019 and if repeating that should be enough to be in the mix again today.
.
Newmarket
2.40 Karibana– Has won last 2 starts beginning with a short head victory at Newbury over Inhalation on the 19th July with Top Secret a further length and 3/4 behind in 3rd. Won again on the 1st August at Newmarket when beating Rodin by 1 and 3/4 lengths with Stoweman a further 3 and 1/4 lengths behind in 3rd. Has been raised 6lb for those wins and that may not be enough to halt the hat-trick.
.
5.00 Believe In Love – Has finished 2nd twice and won twice in last 4 starts, the 2nd places came at Lingfield when going down by a head to Goddess Of Fire on the 1st February, was beaten a head again on next start at Lingfield on the 25th February by Glorious Caeser. Was sent to Kempton on the 11th March and beat Sophar Sogood by a nose with Soldier on Parade a further 2 and 3/4 lengths behind in 3rd. Won again on the 28th July at Goodwood when beating Asiaaf by 2 lengths with Dancing Approach a further 4 and 1/2 lengths behind in 3rd. If turning up in same frame of mind should be in the mix again today.
.
Well that’s my thoughts on today’s selections, good luck if following and please remember to keep stakes small so it doesn’t hurt your pockets. I will now hand you back over to Rich for the Final Word.
Final Word with Rich –
Last weekend was poor by my standards & I couldn’t buy a winner for a toffee but this is a new week and I am feeling refreshed and ready to go….
I have covered the 3 Group races at Deauville, which is the starter for the BIG race on Sunday… The going is Soft!
1.35 Prix Guillaume D’ornano Stakes – Group 2 – 3yo Only – 1m 2f….
The first 3 home in the Group 1 Prix Du Jockey Club (1m 2f 96yds) on July 5th all go again in this race, with runner up The Summit & 3rd Victor Ludorum looking to turn the form with winner Mishreff.
Lets start with Victor Ludorum – Shamardal x Antiquites 3yo colt, was 3rd to Mishreff last time out having previously finished 2 & 1/2 lengths 3rd to The Summit on season return on May 11th at Longchamp in the Group 3 Prix Fontainebleau before reversing the form at Chantilly on June 1st in the 1m Group 1 Poule D’Assai Des Poulains by 1 & 1/2 lengths before the step up in trip.
The Summit – Wootton Bassett x Acola 3yo colt, 2nd to Mishreff on July 5th having had the 2 previous runs against Victor Ludorum (see above).
Mishreff – Make Believe x Contradict 3yo colt. Top rated 117. Having won his maiden at the 3rd attempt at Nottingham in a Class 5 1m Maiden by 10 lengths back in November and began 202 by stepping up to 1m 2f on June 6th in a Listed race at Newmarket, beating Volkan Star by 4 lengths, who has since won a Group 3 & Listed race, while 5th Al Aasy is also a Group 3 winner. 2 from 2 over 1m 2f. Stepped up to Group 1 company with ease to land the Prix Du Jockey Club, with Jockey Frankie Dettori facing 14 days quarantine when he returns to the UK & the one to beat on previous form…..
2.50 Prix Gountant-brion Hong Kong Jockey Club – Group 3 – 4yo Plus – 1m 2f…
Sottsass – Siyouni x Startlet’s Sister 4yo colt. Last season’s Arc 3rd started 2020 by finishing 4th by 1 & 3/4 lengths to Shaman at Longchamp on May 11th in the Group 2 Prix D’Harcourt (1m 2f) before heading to Chantilly on July 11th in the 1m 2f Group 1 Prix Ganay, winning from Way to Paris by a head, who has since landed the Group 1 Grand Prix De Saint-Cloud….
The DANGER is likely to come from Motamaris – Le Harve x Thamarat 4yo colt, who was beaten 4 lengths by Sottsass in last season’s Prix Du Jockey Club last June having previously been unbeaten and didn’t return this season until June, when winning a 1m 2f Listed Stakes at Compiegne. Finished a 3 &1/4 length 4th to Persian King last month in the Group 1 Prix D’Ispahan. Top rated 112.
3.25 Prix De Lieurey Stakes (Fillies’) – Group 3 – 3yo Only – 7f…
The Brits are in full force for this race, with Top rated 109 Cloak of Spirits (R. Hannon), Parent’s Prayer (A. Watson), Onasiss (C. Fellowes) & Althiqa (C. Appleby) all looking to take the spoils but the Favourite is from France….
Simeen – Lope De Vega x Samadrissa 3yo filly. A winner on season return over 1m at Chantilly in May before finishing well down the field, 8th of 12 in the Group 1 Poule D’Essai Des Poullches (Fillies’) before landing a 1m Saint-Cloud Listed Stakes on June 28th by 3 & 1/2 lengths. Won over 7f twice as a 2yo.
For me, the best of the Brits abroad is Althiqa – Dark Angel x Mistrusting 3yo filly. I put this filly up in the Group 3 7f Oak Tree Stakes at Goodwood, when finished 3rd by 1 length, having landed a Deauville 7f Listed Stakes on July 12th by a short head & Charlie Appleby loves to win in France. I see no reason to change my mind…..
That is everything for you today folks… Thanks for your support & for popping by, we really appreciate it.
Remember to keep your stakes small or just watch the top racing on TV
