Newbury & More

Welcome to arseonlineracing. This website is 100% independent and has NO affiliate links. Curated by 2 racing enthusiasts from either end of the British Isles, Charlie hails from Glasgow while Rich is from the Isle of Wight. Miles apart but united by the sport of kings…

A reasonable days racing ahead, with some very nice races to get our teeth into, sadly Doncaster fell foul of the weather, which has been one of the wettest months of the year. We still have Newbury & Newcastle(Inspection at 8am, after writing this blog)…

Charlie will lead the way and Rich will close with Final Word, so lets get them down to the start….

Charlie –

Newbury – 1.15 – As You Like -Hasn’t been out of the first 2 places in 5 starts, and all those have been over 2m 5f between Market Rasen and Newton Abbot, today’s race is over 2m 6f 93y. As you like was a tad unlucky last time out when a late blunder spoiled his chance and ran on for a 1 and 3/4 length defeat to Luckofthedraw. Jonjo O’Neill Jr takes a handy 3lb off today and will need to improve jumping to get involved on ground that’s a bit softer than ideal, given current form is still dangerous to discount completely and is available around 12-1 at time of writing.

Eachway Advised

Fairyhouse – 2.45 – Pivotal Flame – Won at Balinrobe on 20th September when beating Le Hatchette by 4 and 3/4 lengths over 2m 6f. Was then sent to Galway for next run over 2m 5f and 203y and finished a 2 and 1/2 length 2nd to Gran Geste on soft ground. Has been raised 3lb for that and drops back in trip to 2m 4f today and could get involved here with a similar display currently available at 6-1 with most firms at time of writing.

Eachway Advised

.

Lingfield – 3.25 – Pearl Spectre -Was 3rd here over 1m back in November when behind my law and  winner Avorisk Et Perils. Went to Southwell for next run over 1m and finished 5th on the 18th November. Latest run came at Chelmsford on the 25th November and finished a nose 2nd to Kerrera over 1m is now 1lb lower for todays race and is drawn in 3 and with a similar display should take compensation here and is available around 9/4 with most firms at time of writing.

Win Advised

.

Well that’s my thoughts on today’s selections, good luck if following and please remember to keep stake small so it doesn’t hurt your pocket. I will now hand you back over to Rich for the Final Word.

Newbury

Final Word with Rich –

Thanks Charlie, was nice to have a winner with If The Cap Fits last Saturday & hopefully that trend continues here today. I have 3 from Newbury….

Newbury – Good to Soft, Soft in Places…..

1.50 Handicap Hurdle… Class 2… 2m 4f 118yds….

Snow Leopardess…. Has been off the track for 794 days and was last seen winning the Grandlieu Hurdle(2m 3f) at Auteuil in France in September 2017. Won here over C&D in March 2017 when landing the Grade 2 Mares’ Hurdle Finale. Obviously fitness to prove but with 3 wins & 2 places from 5 hurdle runs previously and being only 7yo & still lightly raced, a place could be up for grabs….

2.25 Intermediate Hurdle… Class 1 Listed… 2m 69yds….

Elvis Mail…. A 4 length 3rd to Rouge Vif in the Grade 2 Novice Hurdle, 2m 2f at Kelso last March, with Windsor Park a short head in 2nd & is 2 from 2 since, Getaway Trump was 4th. Elvis Mail won NTO at Kelso when eased to Class 4 in April & made a winning seasonal return on November 2nd to land an Ayr 2m Class 2 Handicap Hurdle, which was handicap debut. Winning by 3 & 1/2 lengths from Leoncavallo….

3.00 Handicap Chase… Grade 3… 3m 1f 214yds….

Robinsfirth…. Last seen 287 days ago at Haydock when landing the 3m 4f Grade 3 Grand National Trial by 3/4’s of a length in February 2019 having finished runner up to Wakanda in the Grade 2 Peter Marsh Chase in January. Developing into a fine chaser, who has seasonal return form of 2/4/2/1/1/1. Has been given a wind operation and this could be a nice time to catch him… Also could be one to note for GN in April…..

That is everything for you folks… Thanks for popping by & we appreciate your support.

All the Best – Charlie & Rich

No Altior or Bristol De Mai here!

Welcome to arseonlineracing. This website is 100% independent & NO affiliate links. It is curated by 2 racing enthusiasts from either end of the British Isles. Charlie hails from Scotland while Rich is from the Isle of Wight.. Miles apart but united by the sport of kings…

Yes the headline is right, its not a hoax.. Neither Charlie or Rich have included the races in todays blog. We would just like to enjoy the races as they happen and then see how it all pans out, but that said we are excited to see how Altior gets on up in trip….

Although we do have selections from the meetings at Ascot & Haydock, just not the BIG races!

A quick update from yesterdays Birthday blog, cake was eaten in disappointment and not celebration although Rich did land a winner!

Charlie –

Huntingdon – 1.05 – Don Juan Du Gouet -Winner of last 2 starts at Stratford over 2m when beating Missesgeejay by 10 lengths and winning at Exeter over 2m 3f when beating Sienna Royale by 1 and 1/4 lengths. If turning up in same mood today should take this race and land the hat-trick in the process although will need to step up again.

Win Advised

.

Lingfield – 1.20 – Avorisk Et Perils -Winner of a Class 6 handicap over 1m here on the 16th November when beating My Law by 2 and 3/4 lengths. If repeating that performance should have the measure of this field and make it 2 wins from last 2 visits here although drop in distance to 7f 1y will be a test of stamina, I feel Avorisk Et Perils should cope with the shorter trip.

Win Advised

.

Ascot – 2.40 – If The Cap Fits – Hasn’t been out of the first 3 places in 5 starts dating back to November 2018. Has won at Ascot over 2m 3f when beating Old Guard by 1 and 1/2 lengths in November last year. Was 3rd at Kempton over 2m behind Verdana Blue and Buveur D’Air in December last year. Was 2nd on next start at Fontwell over 2m 3f when 1 and 1/2 lengths behind Vision Des Flos. Won on most recent start at Aintree over 3m 1f when beating Roksana by a head, If The Cap Fits faces Roksana again today and should confirm the placing with a similar display here.

Win Advised

.

Well that’s my thoughts on today’s selections, good luck if following and please remember to keep stakes small so it doesn’t hurt your pockets. I will now hand you back over to Rich for the Final Word.

Final Word with Rich –

Thanks Charlie, as mentioned I did manage a winner when Master Debonair landed the Introductory Hurdle at Ascot & has gone straight into the tracker… I have 2 from Ascot & 1 from Haydock…

Ascot – Soft….

12.20 Novice Hurdle… Class 2… 2m 5f 141yds…

Prince Llywelyn… Makes hurdle debut on seasonal return. Has been off since finishing runner up in a Class NHF race at Newbury over 2m in March, finishing behind Get In The Que. 4th has won twice over hurdles since that race & now tackles an extra 5f ….

2.20 Ascot Hurdle… Grade 2… 2m 3f 58yds…

If The Cap Fits…. Won this race last season having had a run but makes seasonal return here. The Grade 1 winner, who landed the Liverpool Hurdle(3m) at Aintree when last seen in April faces the horse finishing 2nd that day, Roksana, and only a head separated them back then. Roskana has had a run but was beaten by Top Notch, with jumping being an issue and I cannot see the places being reversed here despite carrying top weight & being Top Rated at 160….

Haydock – Good to Soft….

1.15 Graduation Chase…. Class 2… 2m 5f 127yds…

The Hollow Ginge….Winner at this course in a Class 3 Hurdle over 2m 6f last December before finishing the season 9th in a rade 3 Handicap Hurdle at Sandown. Made a winning chase debut on seasonal return at Worcester in September in a2m 7f Novice Chase beating Follow The Bear by 7 lengths. A runner up last time out, when beaten by a head over 3m at Aintree on October 27th in a Class 3 Novice Handicap Chase…

That is everything for you today folks….

Good Luck – Charlie & Rich

Rich’s Birthday Blog

Welcome to arseonlineracing. This website has NO affiliate links& is 100% independent. It is curated by 2 racing enthusiasts from either end of the British Isles. Charlie hails from Glasgow while Rich is from the Isle of Wight… Miles apart but united by the sport of kings….

Our last blog only had one winner from Charlie and a juicy winner it was too… This is a special blog post… Rich’s Birthday Blog & hopefully we can land a few winners today, so lets get the party started & see if we can get a few beer tokens!!

Charlie –

Ascot

1.30 – Fred -Had finished 2nd on 3 separate occasions in France, before making UK debut for Nicky Henderson and finishing 3rd at Cheltenham over 2m in October. Nicky also has Igor in this race who has raced 3 times with 2 runs coming here and the other coming at Newton Abbot. My preference is for Fred who looks a very nice prospect for Nicky Henderson and should take this race en route to bigger targets as the season progresses.

Win Advised

.

3.45 – Red Force One – Hasn’t been out of the first 3 home since finishing 3rd at Stratford in March over 2m 3f. Was dropped in distance for next race at Haydock to 1m 2f and finished 2nd. Was then stepped back up in trip to 2m for next race at Fakenham and finished 2nd again, more recently was 2nd here over 2m when beat a neck by Gumball in November. Should have the winning of this race with a similar performance for Paul Nicholls.

Win Advised

.

Well that’s my thoughts on today’s selections, good luck if following and please remember to keep stakes small so it doesn’t hurt your pockets. I will now hand you back over to Rich who will give you his Birthday selections.

I would like to thank Rich for the effort he puts in on a daily basis and wish him a very happy birthday, so without further adieu let’s find out what Rich has found for his birthday bookie bashing.

.

Final Word Birthday Special…

Thanks Charlie… I have 2 from Ascot & 1 from Newcastle…

Ascot – Good to Soft, Soft in places ….

2.00 Introductory Hurdle… Class 2… 1m 2f 152yds….

Master Debonair…. Won the Listed bumper(NHF) at last seasons Cheltenham November meeting before finishing 12 of 14 in the Champion Bumper at the Festival in March. Finished 5th in Grade 2 NHF at Aintree at the Grand National meeting in April. Had wind surgery during the summer and made hurdles debut & seasonal return at Cheltenham in October, when finishing a 2 length 3rd on October 25th, second run of the season….

3.15 Handicap Chase… Class 3… 2m 7f 180yds…

Dragon D’Estruval…. Winner of 3 chase races from 5 ran in France prior to heading to the UK from France. Made a winning UK debut over hurdles in May 2018 at Ffos Las but failed to win on 3 more hurdle starts. Was given a wind operation and returned at Perth in June, when making chase debut. Finished a 3 length 3rd of 10 over 2m 7f & has been off since….

Newcastle(AW) – Standard….

4.30 Handicap… Class 5… 5f….

Be Proud… Won an Apprentice C&D Class 6 Handicap by 4 & 1/2 lengths in September before finishing 5th of 12 when stepping up to 6f on October 2nd. Has finished runner up on last 2 starts over C&D, when beaten by a neck on October 22nd & last time out on November 1st by a short head, both in this class & has only been raised 1 by the handicapper. Was drawn 10 & 9 in the previous races & now with a low draw today…

Thanks for popping by today & for your support.. We will be back tomorrow with a Super Saturday blog & maybe an interview on Sunday…

Best of Luck – Charlie & Rich

Day 2 November Meeting… Cheltenham

Welcome to arseonlineracing. This is a 100% independent racing website with NO affiliate links. The website is curated by 2 racing enthusiasts from either end of the British Isles. Charlie hails from Glasgow, while Rich is from the Isle of Wight… Miles apart but united by the sport of kings….

Yesterdays meeting at Cheltenham threw up some magic moments for some people, while other’s were left scratching their heads. Possibly the same at Lingfield too. Meanwhile Faugheen made his chase debut & despite an early mistake, went on to win & win well…

Like yesterday.. Charlie will lead the way & Rich will have the Final Word….

Charlie –

Cheltenham

12.45 – Colditz Castle 15-2 -Although without a win as yet, has hinted of some ability when running well in a Class 5 Maiden at Wincanton over 2m 4f and finished 2nd behind Trevelyns Corn. Was 2nd again at Worcester over 2m 4f behind Boomerang on the 24th May. Was sent back to Worcester on the 23rd October and finished 3rd over 2m 4f behind Larkbarrow Lad and The Vollen. Will need to step up a notch to get involved here but stamina isn’t an issue and a bold run is anticipated.

Win Advised

.

3.00 – Dame De Compangnie 6-1 – Was 2nd at Ascot over 2m 3f back in February 2018 when a nose behind Point Of Principle. Was then sent to Cheltenham on the 19th April 2018 and won over 2m 4f beating Just Janice by 1 and 1/2 lengths. Barry Geraghty retains the ride and could be the answer to this very open looking race.

Win Advised

.

4.00 – Hugos Other Horse 12-1 -Hails from the Paul Nichols yard and being a half brother to Cue Card makes some appeal even though has only raced twice, finished 4th on debut at Wincanton over 1m 7f on the 26th December last year behind Flic Ou Voyou, Now Look At Me and Sleight Of Hand. Was then sent to Fontwell on the 24th February and won over 2m 1f and 162y beating Thunderstruck by a head. Biggest danger comes in the shape of the Nicky Henderson trained Time Flies By who won on heavy here on debut in October this year beating Butte Montana by 1 and 3/4 lengths.

Eachway Advised.

Well that’s my thoughts on today’s selections, Good luck if following and please remember to keep stakes small so it doesn’t hurt your pockets. I will now hand you back over to Rich for The Final Word.

Final Word with Rich….

Thanks Charlie, with only 1 winner for this column it was a tad disappointing from myself but I fully intend to put that right today… I start at Punchestown before heading to Cheltenham….

Punchestown… Soft, Good to soft in places..

3.00 Florida Pearl Novice Chase… Grade 2… 2m 6f 140yds…

Battleofthedoyen… Grade 1 winning hurdler who was pulled up in the Ballymore Hurdle at Cheltenham back in March. Switched to chasing this season and made a winning start at Galway over 2m 6f on October 27th when leading all the way in the Beginners Chase to win by 8 lengths…..

Cheltenham… Soft, Heavy in places…

1.50 Arkle Trial Novice Hurdle… Grade 2… 1m 7f 199yds…

AL Dancer…. C&D winner on October 25th in a Class 2 Novice Chase on chase debut, having Getaway Trump in behind, which was the second time he had been behind, the other was in a Hurdle race last season and I cannot see that changing today..
The one I would be wary of though is Put The Kettle On. The Irish chaser was 3 from 3 in this sphere until finishing runner up last time out in a Tipperary 2m 4f Grade 3 Chase, beaten only 1/2 a length by Robin De Carlow on October 6th…

2.25 Cheltenham Chase… Grade 2… 1m 7f 199yds….

Defi Du Seuil…. Improved every run last season having switched from Hurdles to Chasing and finishing last of 5 to Lalor at this meeting last season. Landed the JLT here in March by 2 & 1/4 lengths before finishing runner up in the Grade 1 Ryanair Novice Chase at Punchestown in April…

3.00 Greatwood Handicap Hurdle… Grade 3.. 2m 57yds…

Quel Destin…. Winner of the Prestbury Grade 2 Hurdle last season as part of the 5 wins on the bounce before finishing 5th in the JCB Grade 1 Hurdle. Had a spin on the flat at Bath as a pipe opener for the season & won on Hurdle return when taking a Class 2 Hurdle over C&D last month by 3/4’s of a length. Does have to carry joint top weight of 11st 12Lbs and is also joint top rated at 149…
The danger could come from the Mare Dame De Compagnie, who carries 10st 9Lb and was the winner of the Mares’ Class 1  Listed Hurdle over 2m 4fat this course back in April. Makes seasonal return….

That is everything for you today folks. Thanks for your support & for popping by…

All the Best – Charlie & Rich

November Meeting & Lingfield

Welcome to arseonlineracing. A 100% independent racing website with NO affiliate links. This website is curated by 2 racing enthusiasts from either end of the British Isles. Charlie hails from Glasgow while Rich is from the Isle of Wight. We maybe miles apart but we are united by the sport of kings….

What a week in racing…. Tiger Roll injured and out until 2020… Davy Russell not riding for Giggenstown & then he is! Plus Cheltenham cancel the opening day of this meeting due to flooding… Not to mention Douvan winning… Ah it’s great to be back……

Charlie will have his Saturday Selections while Rich will have the final word….

Charlie –

Cheltenham

2.25 Sirhu Du Lac – Has Won both starts this year and funnily enough both wins came at Cheltenham, first one was in January over 2m 5f when beating Nicky Henderson’s Janika by a head. The 2nd one was in March and again saw Sirhu Du Lac take on Henderson’s Janika and like last time Janika was 2nd but by 3/4 of a length this time around. Although there’s no Henderson runner today this field is of a good quality and Sirhu Du Lac will need to be at his best to take the spoils here, biggest danger comes in the shape of Slate House from the Colin Tizzard yard who also was a winner at Cheltenham last time out.

Eachway Advised

.

3.00 The Butcher Said – Has posted 4 wins and a fair 2nd last time out at Cheltenham, the wins came at Huntingdon, Cartmel, Fontwell and Newton Abbot over 2m 5f and 2m 6f the 2nd place at Cheltenham was over 3m when beaten 4 and 1/2 lengths by Ramses De Teillee. Looks on an interesting mark for this listed handicap hurdle.

Win Advised

.

4.00 Urban Artist – Was 4th here back in April over 2m 179y behind Mystic Dreamer but wasn’t beaten far as only 3 lengths separated the first 4 home. Was then sent out to Ludlow and won over 1m 7f and 169y, when beating Bit On The Side by 1/2 length. Nico was on board for that win and is partnered again today and another bold display can’t be ruled out.

Eachway Advised

.

Well that’s my thoughts on today’s selections, good luck if following and please remember to keep stakes small so it doesn’t hurt your pockets. I will now hand you over to Rich for The Final Word.

Ling Pk

2.45 Churchill Stakes… Class 1 Listed… 1m 2f….

Pactolus…. The C&D winners form around this place is very impressive.. 2/2/4/1/3/3, with both the last 2 runs finishing 3rd from a mark of 104 and today runs from 102, which was the last C&D winning mark in January this year. Having finished 3rd in the Winter Derby to Wissahickon & 3rd to Matterhorn in the Middle Distance Stakes on AW Champs day here back in April. The last run was on October 10th at Kempton, when a 2 length 3rd in a Class 2 Handicap….

That is everything for you today folks… Thanks for popping by & for your continued support….

Plenty to get excited about today.. Aintree, Wincanton, Kelso… AW at Southwell plus Naas in Ireland….

As usual Charlie will lead the way & Rich will have the Final Word…

Charlie –

Aintree

12.20 – Follow The Bear 4-1 – Has 3 wins and a 2nd place from last 4 starts and comes into this race in great shape. Wins have came over hurdles covering distances of 2m 7f to 3m 1f. Placed 2nd on most recent start in a Class 4 Novice Chase at Worcester beaten 7 lengths by The Hollow Ginge. Will have learned plenty from that race and is taken to go one better today, main threats come in the shape of  Nicky Henderson’s other runner Champagne Mystery and Joueur  Bresilien trained by R Curtis.

Win Advised

.

2.05 – Cepage 7-2 -Has a win and a 2nd place from last 3 runs last year, the win came at Kempton over 2m 4f and the 2nd place came at Cheltenham over 2m 5f when last seen in December last year. Makes seasonal return and today’s conditions are suitable, if fully race ready should take this race with main danger coming in the shape of Duke Street and Oldgrangewood.

Win Advised

.

Wincanton

3.35 – Soupy Soups 14-1 -Has finished 2nd twice and won once from last 3 starts, over distances of 2m 6f and 3m. Had finished 2nd at Perth over 3m on the 9th September beaten 2 and 1/4 lengths by Almafi Doug. Returned to Perth on the 25th September and won over 3m beating Graineyhill by 8 lengths. More recently was a 3 and 1/2 length 2nd to Mellow Ben at Fontwell over 2m 5f and 135y. Has gone up 5lbs for that performance and should be in the thick of it come business end of race. Main dangers come in the shape of Last year’s winner Present Man who is going for a hat-trick of wins in this race and The Young Master who seems to have found some form since pulling up at Newbury in December 2018.

Eachway Advised

.

Well that’s my thoughts on today’s selections, good luck if following and please remember to keep stake small so it doesn’t hurt your pocket, I will now hand you over to Rich for the Final Word.
