Goodwood

4.10 – Mrs Bouquet -Was a 1 length 2nd at Newcastle on the 29th June to Hurcle over 5f. Next race came at Catterick on the 10th July and Mrs Bouquet won, beating Baileys in Bloom by 1 and 3/4 lengths over 5f 212y. Most recently won at York over 5f on the 12th July, beating Dylan De Vega by 1 and 1/2 lengths. If turning up in same mindset shown on last 3 runs should be in the thick of it here come business end of race.

Win Advised

.

4.45 – Nearooz -Has only had 4 starts thus far having won 2 and placed 2nd in the other 2. The wins came at Newmarket on debut back in October last year when beating Watheera by a short head over 7f. Next win came on next start at Wolverhampton when stepping up in trip to 1m 142y on the 23rd April this year beating New Jazz by 2 and 1/4 lengths. Finished 2nd on next 2 starts at Nottingham when beaten 3 lengths by Layaleena over 1m and 75y. Was 2nd again on most recent start at Chester when beaten 1/2 length by Ocala over 1m 2f and 70y on the 28th June. If repeating form shown so far should go well again here today.

Win Advised

.

5.55 – Light and Dark – wasn’t my original choice as I was between two in this race hopefully it doesn’t come back to bite me arse, the other horse I had on my shortlist was LA Maquina who is currently 12-1 and was beaten by Light and Dark last time out. Light and Dark has only had 4 starts finishing 4th on racecourse debut at Newmarket behind the John Gosden trained Turgenev over 1m on the 6th October last year. Was then dropped in distance for next race at Newmarket to 7f and finished 3rd some 2 and 3/4 lengths behind winner Bell Rock. Returned to same venue on the 22nd June this year and finished a 6 and 1/2 length 3rd behind Moqtarreb over 1m. Was returned to Newmarket for latest run and gained compensation by winning by 3 lengths over LA Maquina over 7f. A repeat of those runs shown at Newmarket should be enough to take this but will need to dig a bit deeper in this slightly tougher race.

Jamie(@Glen_Colt) – Day 3 Galway Festival

6:10 – Tote Irish EBF Mares Handicap Hurdle – Selection: Ena Baie
A tricky puzzle for the punters to solve. A couple of British raiders are well fancied, and I fancy the unexposed Ena Baie from the stable of Harry Fry. This gelding got off the mark at Southwell last month over the same distance as today. Undoubtedly, she will need to improve a good deal from that race to figure here. It is significant that Harry Fry
brings her over to Ireland and she wouldn’t be running here if Harry didn’t think she had a chance of winning.

7:20 – The Tote.com Galway Plate – Selection: Coney Island
The big race of the festival and what a cracker it is. I have given the nod to former Gold Cup placer Coney Island. It is a big hint that he is running in this given that he hasn’t been seen on a racecourse since the Cheltenham Festival. Coney Island only had the three races last season ending with a respectable sixth in the Ryanair Chase. With
Tony Martin a master at getting horses primed for a big race off a layoff, Coney Island can go very well under a big weight. He will be primed for this.

8:00 – Bet with the tote at Galway handicap – Selection: Zander
A field of 13 (max) going to post here where the Ger Lyons trained Zander looks like he has a nice opportunity to get his head back in front. The Son of Oasis Dream produced a much better performance last time out when not beaten far by the smart Turnberry Isle. He returns to the scene of his only victory tonight when at this meeting last year, he broke his maiden. The return to Galway could just spark Zander into life and if so he has a great chance of making it 2/2 at the course.

Goodwood

Final Word with Rich –

Thanks Guys, it’s nice to get some winners on the board… Day 2 of Glorious Goodwood, although the weather yesterday was far from glorious!!

Class 2 debut was defeat then bounced back when stepped up to 1m 6f at Haydock beating Mind The Crack by 1/2 a length & now drops back to 1m 4f…

Liberty Beach…. 3 wins from 4 runs and only defeat was finishing 4th in the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes to Raffle Prize by 2 & 1/2 lengths. Back on the winning trail last time out(July 5th) when landing the Class 1 Listed Dragon Stakes by 3/4’s of a length. Gets weight from Maven…..

3.35 Sussex Stakes… Group 1… 1m…

Circus Maximus…. 2 wins from 3 runs this season. Having landed the Class 1 Listed 1m Dee Stakes in May on season return by 1 & 1/4 lengths before stepping up to 1m 4f in the Derby at Epsom, finishing 6th, 5 & 1/4 lengths behind winner Anthony Van Dyke. Dropped back to 1m at Ascot on June 18th, when landing the St James’ Palace Stakes by a neck from King of Comedy…

That is everything for you today folks… Thanks for popping & for your continued support….

Hello, I think we should all take a moment to enjoy what a fantastic race at Ascot on Saturday between Crystal Ocean & Enable… It was quite simply breath taking & one that will live long in the memory. The 2 best 5 year old’s in training in the UK going head to head…. Hopefully this week will leave some more memories….

With Goodwood & Galway on at the same time, we are joined by Jamie (@Glen_Colt) who will be bringing us his thoughts on Galway, while Charlie will have his daily selections & Rich will, as always, have the Final Word!

Goodwood

3.00 – Hey Gaman -Won the EBF Stallions King Richard III Stakes Class 1 (Listed) race over 7f at Leicester on seasonal return on the 27th April, beating Larchmont Lad by 2 and 1/4 lengths. Was sent over to Longchamp in France for the Prix du Palais-Royal Group 3 over 7f on the 30th May and won again beating King Malpic by 1 length. Was sent over to Ireland for latest run at the Curragh on the 20th July, when contesting the Paddy Power Minstrel Stakes Group 2 over 7f, Hey Gaman finished 2nd a whole length behind Romanised. If turning up in same mindset shown so far this season should be involved again here with biggest danger being Zaaki.

Win Advised

.

4.45 – May Gold -Was 2nd on seasonal return at Nottingham when 1 length behind Peggie Sue over 5f and 8y on the 11th May, next race was at Chelmsford on the 31st May and May Gold finished 4th behind You’re Cool. Most recently was sent to Salisbury on the 16th June when beating Youkan by 2 and 3/4 lengths over 5f. If turning up in same mood shown last time should be involved again here at business end of race.

Win Advised

.

5.15 – Nkosikasi -Has only had 2 starts this season, finished 2nd on seasonal return at Lingfield to Daddies Girl who won by 2 lengths over 7f and 135y on the 22nd June. Was then sent to Newmarket on the 11th July and finished 2nd again beaten a neck by Wings Of Time over 1m. If showing up in same mindset can gain compensation here although will need to step up.

Win Advised

Jamie (@Glen_Colt)

5:20 – Colm Quinn BMW Novice Hurdle – Selection: Fast Buck
French import for Willie Mullins who is having his fourth start for the Champion trainer today. He holds an excellent chance of following up his impressive maiden hurdle win at Listowel last month. This is a steep enough rise in class, but Willie Mullins farms this race and has won it multiple times in the past with horses of similar profile. He will
give his supporters a great chance of starting day 2 with a winner.

6:25 – Colm Quinn BMW Maiden – Selection: Too Soon to Panic
In a maiden usually dominated by Dermot Weld and Aidan O’Brien, this year could see a change with Fozzy Stack’s charge Too Soon to Panic well fancied after a great effort on her debut at Leopardstown. She ran well on to finish third. The form got a big boost when the fourth home Love won a Group 3 at the same track last week. I am hoping that the rain stays away from Galway as good ground looks to be important to her. Big chance of winning if she has progressed from that Leopardstown maiden.

7:40 – Colm Quinn BMW Mile Handicap – Selection: Onlyhuman
Jessica Harrington’s stable are in fine form and have been for quite a while now. The master trainer could well strike in the big race of the day at Galway. Stable jockey Shane Foley has opted to ride recent Limerick scorer Onlyhuman over Marshall Jennings. The Son of Invincible Spirit had a couple of today’s rivals behind when winning at Limerick, with the drop back to a mile no problem for him. The stiff finish of Galway will suit Onlyhuman’s stamina and he can notch up another win while the iron is hot.

Final Word with Rich –

Thanks chaps, it’s good to have you back Jamie & we look forward to a cracking weeks racing…. I am concentrating on Goodwood…..

2.25 Vintage Stakes… Group 2…. 2YO Only…. 7f….

Pinatubo…. I put Pinatubo up last time out when entered in the Chesham Class 1 Listed Stakes at Ascot on June 22nd. Pinatubo won by 3 & 1/4 lengths from Lope Y Fernandez(Who was the Danger) having won the Woodcote Class 2 Condition Stakes on May 31st by 1 & 1/2 lengths. and now has to give 3Lb to the field, which includes Lope Y Fernandez. It is likely the latter will improve for the previous run while Visini could well end up as the main challenger having finished a neck 3rd to Royal Lytham in the Group 2 July Stakes at Ascot on July 11th….

3.00 Lennox Stakes… Group 2… 7f…

Zaaki…. Has been a revelation since dropping back to 1m from 1m 2f when beating Barney Roy by a neck in an Ascot Class 1 listed race on May 1st and has also sine landed the Group 3 1m Doomed Stakes from Oh This Is Us at Epsom on June 1st. Beaten a nose last time out in the Group 2 Summer Mile at Ascot on July 13th and now tried over 7f….

3.35 Goodwood Cup Stakes… Group 1… 2m…

Stradivarius…. The winner of this race for the last 2 seasons & the Million Pound horse. Since winning this race last season by 1/2 a length from Torcedor, Stradivarius won the York Group 2 Lonsdale Cup and the Long Distance Group 2 at Ascot on Champions Day. Having started this season at York in the 1m 6f Yorkshire Cup when beating Southern France by 3/4’s of a length and then headed to Ascot in the Gold Cup on June 20yh when beating Dee Ex Bee by 1 length to make it 7 wins from 7 runs dating back to May 18th 2017….
The Dangers could come from the above mentioned Dee Ex Bee, who won 2 from 2 over 2m prior to finishing runner up at Ascot & in 4th that day was Melbourne Cup & Dubai Gold Cup winner Cross Counter, either could make life difficult for Stradivarius….

That is everything for you today folks… Thanks for popping by and for your continued support….

Ascot – King George Day

Welcome to arseonlineracing. A 100% independent racing website with NO affiliate links. This website is curated by 2 racing enthusiasts from either end of the UK. Charlie hails from Glasgow, while Rich is from the Isle of Wight… Miles apart but united by the sport of kings…

We have started focusing on quality rather than quantity that we have had in the previous couple of years and it seems to be working ok so far, with almost 13,000 site views for the year to date…

King George day at Ascot and this looks like a really interesting renewal, in fact the card is packed with quality it’s just a shame that yet again on a Saturday there is so much racing.. Too much.. Quality over quantity! With 8 meetings today and only 2 on Sunday maybe they could move a couple of the meetings to a Sunday or a have big midweek meeting, mind you we have said this for the past 2 or 3 years, even some of the trainers we have interviewed would prefer that but it seems the BHA are not interested!
Anyway enough of the ramblings of a mad man, lets get on with the racing & as mentioned plenty to get into….

Charlie will have his Saturday Selections while Rich will have the Final Word, with the King George covered….

Charlie –

York 3.15 – Addeyebb 13/8 -Was 4th on seasonal return at Chester over 1m 2f behind Forest Ranger. Was then sent to Ascot and won the Wolferton Stakes over 1m 1f 212y beating Magic Wand by 2 and 1/2 lengths. With the forecast bringing rain today that puts Addeyebb in fantastic shape coming into this race and another bold display can’t be ruled out as long as the rain arrives on time.

Win Advised

.

Chester 4.25 – Lincoln Park 11/4 – Lincoln Park won at Chester over 7f on the 9th May this year when beating Spirit Warning by 1 length. Was then sent to Goodwood on the 9th June and finished 6th behind Beauty Filly over 7f. Most recently was 3rd behind Beat Le Bon at Haydock over 7f and 37y on the 6th July. Most of Lincoln Park’s wins have come with a bit of cut in the ground and the forecast rain should tip this race in Lincoln Park’s favour and another bold display is anticipated.

Win Advised

.

Salisbury 6.45 – The Greyvtrain 11/2 -Was a short head 2nd on seasonal return to Show Me The Bubbly at Bath over 5f and 160y on the 6th May. Was then sent to Chelmsford on the 27th May to race over 5f and The Greyvtrain gained compensation by beating Fairy Fast by 1/2 length. Was then sent to Bath for next race over 5f and 10y and The Greyvtrain won again beating Edged Out by 1 and 3/4 lengths. Was sent to Bath for most recent run and finished 3rd some 2 and 3/4 lengths behind winner Top Boy. The Greyvtrain has been in great form this season so far with 2 wins and 2 places, the forecast rain shouldn’t be an issue although will need a bit of luck in running with the biggest danger being Aquadabra.

Win Advised

.

Well that’s my thoughts on today’s selections, good luck if following and please remember to keep stakes small so it doesn’t hurt your pocket. I will now hand you back over to Rich for the Final Word.

Final Word with Rich …..

Thanks Charlie, lets hope for another good day with a few winners… I have 1 from York & 3 from Ascot including the King George….

York…

3.15 York Stakes…. Group 2… 1m 2f 56yds….

Regal Reality…. Beaten 1 & 1/2 lengths in 3rd in the Mile at Sandown on seasonal return in April by Beat the Bank(God Speed) and then won the Brigadier Gerard at Sandown when tackling 1m 2f for the first time in May and then a excellent 3rd by 2 & 3/4 lengths to Enable in the Eclipse Group 1 at Sandown on July 4th… Top rated 120…

Ascot…

1.50 Princess Margaret Stakes… Fillies’ Group 3… 2YO Only… 6f…

Summer Romance…. Two from two following a 2 length debut win in a Class 5 6f Maiden at Yarmouth on June 13th before stepping up to Listed level at Newmarket in the 6f Empress Listed Fillies’ Stakes on June 29th, winning by 6 lengths….

2.25 Handicap… Class 2… 1m….

Motakhayyel… A last time out winner in a Newmarket 1m Class 2 Handicap by 2 & 1/4 lengths on July 13th taking it to 2 wins from 2 runs over 1m. A winner over 7f on race course debut on the AW at Lingfield back in November. Only defeat was over 7f in a Class 3 Yarmouth Handicap by a neck.. 3 wins from 4 starts…

3.40 King George IV & Queen Elizabeth Stakes… Group 1… 1m 4f…

A very good renewal of this race featuring the highest rated horse in the world, the Derby winner & a double Arc winner…
Aidan O’Brien comes loaded for this race with 4 runners including Derby winner Anthony Van Dyck, who runs in first time Cheek Pieces and has a weight allowance due to being 3YO and carries just 8St 10Lb. I have a feeling they will try and set the fractions with Hunting Horn the possible pace maker.
The Coronation & Hardwicke winner Defoe, who recently landed a Group 1 lines up and had a very live each way chance. The French raider Waldgeist won the Prix Ganay on seasonal return in April at Longchamp and last time out finished 4 & 1/2 lengths behind Crystal Ocean at Ascot in the Prince of Wales’ Stakes and along Cheval Graid from Japan, who finished 4th to Almond Eye in November in the Japan Cup and finished 1 & 1/2 lengths runner up to Old Persain in the Sheema Classic 1m 4f Group 1 at Meydan in March…
Last September a race fit Crystal Ocean finished 3 & 1/2 lengths behind Enable but this term is unbeaten, landing 2 Group 3 races before taking the Prince of Wales Stakes at Ascot from Magical by 1 & 1/2 lengths and is the major danger to ENABLE, who won the Eclipse on seasonal return at Sandown over 1m 2f by 3/4 ‘s of a length from Magical and won tis race in 2017, just like she did with the Eclipse and carries 9S 4Lb due to a weight for sex rule, which leaves Crystal Ocean & Defoe 3Lb heavier as they are older than Anthony Van Dyck…. Here are my first 3 home…
Enable 125(R)
Crystal Ocean(127)
Defoe(119)

That is everything for you today folks… A big thanks to everyone who read our recent article about Sea of Class(God Speed)… And for your continued support…

Group Racing from the Curragh & Deauville

Welcome to arseonlineracing. A 100% independent racing website with NO affiliate links. This website is curated by 2 racing enthusiasts from either end of the British Isles, miles apart but united by the sport of kings….

Rich will be covering the Group races from the Curragh & Deauville as we have done for the past few weekends, hopefully it will be a good day….

15573_tourismcarousel

Lets start with Deauville…

1.35 Listed Stakes… 3YO Only… 1m…

Twist & Shake… having finished a neck runner up in a 1m Fillies’ Listed race at York in May was stepped up to Group 1 level next time out on June 21st at Ascot in the Coronation Cup, where she finished a 3 & 1/2 length 4th of 9 and today drops back to Listed level with a great chance….
DANGER… Fount… Was previously 2 from 2 over 1m prior to being stepped up in trip to 1m 2f in the Prix Saint- Alary Group 1, finishing 6thof 11, some 5 & 1/2 lengths back in the field and now drops back in trip, with a drop in grade….

2.50 Prix Robert Papin… Group 2…. 2YO Only… 5f 102yds…

A’Ali…. Beaten a neck in a Ripon Class 5 5fNovice Stakes on debut on June 5th before winning by the same margin in the Group 2 5f Norfolk Stakes at Ascot
DANGER… Jolie… 2/2/3/1 in 4 runs since April 30th when making a winning season return. Finished 3rd over 6f before being beaten a head in the last 2 starts at Maison – Lattiffe in a Listed race & Chantilly in a Group 3, both back over 5f…

4.35 Prix Messidor… Group 3 Stakes… 1m….

Top rated 115 is Study of Man but hasn’t run over 1m since making a winning race course debut in September 2017 by 2 lengths. Has been running in Group 1 company since June 2018 when winning the prix Du Jockey Club. Has finished runner up on last 2 starts, to Waldgeist by 4 & 1/2 lengths in the Prix Ganay Group 1(1m 2f) by 4 & 1/2 lengths &last time out to Zabeel Prince in the 1m 1f Prix D’Ispahan in May & has been off since. Now eased in grade & drops back in trip…
DANGERS… If Study of Man fails to fire today then Impulsif, who has won the last 2 starts over 1m by a combined distance of 11 lengths& stepping up to Group level could sneak the prize along with Trans Fluors, who has improved for each run this term. Finishing a 3/4’s of a length runner up in the 1m Prix Bertand Group 3 to Vintager on June 16th….

img_20190628_2150211555965920927672095.jpg

Curragh……

3.10 Sapphire Stakes… Group 2…. 5f…

Soldier’s Call… 1/2 length 3rd to Garrus in the Westow Listed Stakes at York on season return in May before again finishing 3rd behind the now retired, Blue Point in the Kings Stand Group 1 at Ascot on June 18th. The top rated horse in the race at 114 and can over turn the form with re- opposing Garrus, who was a 3/4’s of a length runner up in the Group 3 Sprint Stakes at Sandown on July 6th.
There are 2 C&D winners in the field and they could well spring a surprise.. Soffia, who is 3 from 3 at the Course and the winner of the Group 3 Ballyogan Stakes in June by a neck & has won here over 6f . The other is El Astronaute, who like Soffia has won the last 2 starts and landed a C&D handicap by 1 length on June 27th, these 2 would be my alternatives to Soldiers Call, who I fully expect to win!

3.35 Kilboy Estate Stakes… Fillies’ Group 2… 1m 1f…

Move Swiftly…A winner over 9 & 1/2f at Wolverhampton so the step up in trip from 1m is no issue here today. The winner of the Duke of Cambridge Stakes 1m Group 2 at Ascot on June 24th by a neck & the likely winner of this….

A quick recap of Yesterday…
Charlie had 1 winner from 3 Selections, while Star Catcher won the Irish Oaks , which was the only winner Rich had….

All the Best – Charlie & Rich

Newbury

With so many meetings again on a Saturday, no idea why they don’t hold a couple over until Sunday, but hey, it is what it is & we have to run with it.

Charlie will have his Saturday Selections while Rich will have the final Word….

Charlie –

Newmarket

2.05 – Fromnowon -Was 2nd in a class 5 Auction at Newbury on the 11th July over 6f, when beaten 1/2 length by Odyssey Girl. This daughter of Showcasing steps up in trip to 7f and looks very interesting for R Hannon and with Sean Levey doing the steering, another good show looks likely. Currently available around the 9/4 price with most firms at time of writing.

Win Advised

.

3.50 – Indeed -Had some decent form in France and has transferred that to the UK when finishing 2nd by a neck to Chatez on UK debut at Newbury over 1m, made amends on next start at Chelmsford when winning over 1m 2f beating Desert Fox by 3/4 of a length. Currently available at 9/4 with most firms at time of writing and another bold display can’t be ruled out.

Win Advised

.

5.00 – Cardano – Has won 3 times and placed 2nd once from last 4 races. Wins have came at Nottingham and Ripon both over 1m and at Newmarket over 1m 2f. The 2nd place came 2 starts back at Goodwood over 1m 2f when losing by 1 length to Edmond Dantes. Currently available at 100/30 and another bold show looks likely and has no problem with going as acts on most ground.

Win Advised

.

Newbury

2.25 – Carnwennan -Finished 2nd at Kempton over 2m in final run of 2018. Was 2nd again on seasonal return at Doncaster over 2m on the 26th April when a 3/4 of a length 2nd to Handiwork over 2m 109y. Was dropped in distance for next start at York when tackling 2m 56y and won beating Mancini by 1 and 1/2 lengths. Next run was at Chelmsford when Carnwennan beat Vampish by 1 and 1/2 length over 2m. Was sent to Newcastle for latest run and won again over 2m 56y beating Rare Groove by 3 and 1/2 lengths. If repeating the form shown in last 4 starts will be tough to beat and currently available at 6-1 with most firms and is an eachway selection.

Eachway Advised

.

3.40 – Never In Paris -Won on debut at Nottingham over 5f and 8y when beating Exclusively by 2 and 1/4 lengths, is currently available around the 5-1 price with most firms and is another eachway selection.

.

Well that’s my thoughts on today’s selections, good luck if following and please remember to keep stakes small so it doesn’t hurt your pocket. I will now hand you back over to Rich for the Final Word.

2019-04-17-21-37-49.jpg

Final Word with Rich –

Thanks Charlie, Saturdays have been good to me the last few weeks, so I am hoping that trend continues today….

Newbury… Good to Soft…

1.50 Steventon Stakes… Class 1 Listed… 1m 2f…

Fox Chairman is likely to go off odds on Favourite having finished a 2 & 1/4 length runner up to Sangarius in the 1m 2f Group 3 Hampton Court at Ascot having been 3rd to Circus Maximus in the Dee Stakes, I am with FIRST NATION, who despite not landing a blow in the Sefton Stakes at Newmarket on season return in April or in the Wolferton Stakes, Listed at Ascot last month but showed enough to get within 1 &1/4 lengths to Elarqam at Sandown on July 5th in the 1m 2f Gala Listed Stakes and will go close today..

3.00 Hackwood Stakes… Group 3… 6f…
KHAADEM is a C&D winner when landing the Shalaa Carnarvon Listed Stakes by 1/2 a length from Oxted on May 18th, seasonal return. Never really ran a yard in the Group 1 Commonwealth Stakes at Ascot when a full 10 lengths behind Advertise on June 21st & is now eased in grade. The Tin Man is likely to give his running, now also eased in grade  having won this race in 2016 and is the big DANGER to Khaadem…

Newmarket … Good to Firm…

2.40 Aphrodite Fillies’ Stakes… Class 1 listed… 1m 4f…

SPARKLE ROLL was a winner on season return over 1m2f when 2 lengths clear of King Power back in April. Finished 7th of 10 in the Fillies’ Group 3 Musidora Stakes at York, running flat before taking a step up in trip from 1m 2f to 1m 4f at Ascot in the Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes last month but the other Gosden runner Kesia, who was a winner on race course debut at Ascot over the distance in a Class 3 Maiden on May 10th takes a big step up in grade and is well regarded at home and could be the big DANGER…..

img_20190628_2149474403726072048303470.jpg

Curragh… Good to Firm…

4.00 Anglesey Stakes… Group 3…2YO Only… 6f63yds…

PISTOLETTO…. 2 from 2 after winning by 5 & 1/2 lengths on race course debut at Tipperary in a Maiden before taking a Naas Class 1 Listed by 1/2 a length and now steps up in trip..
Keep an eye out for Soul Search, who was beaten by a head on debut at Leopardstown when running over 7f on July 11th….

5.10 Irish Oaks… Fillies Group 1… 3YO Only… 1m 4f…

STAR CATCHER…  2 wins from 3 runs this season having won on seasonal return in a Class 6 1m 2f Maiden in April at Newbury by 4 &1/2 lengths. 3rd to Queen Power again at Newbury in a Listed race before stepping up in grade to land the Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes at Ascot by 1 & 1/2 lengths from Fleeting on June 20th. The DANGERS could come from the Pretty Polly Stakes winner Iridessa who now steps up in trip and finished ahead of Pink Dogwood and I don’t think that form is likely to be reversed..

That is everything for you today folks, a big thanks to everyone who read our latest BIG Interview…

Longchamp – Grand Prix Du Paris(Group 1)

Hello & welcome to an Arseonlineracing Longchamp Final Word Special…. This website is 100% Independent and has NO affiliate links. Curated by 2 racing enthusiasts from either end of the British Isles, despite being miles apart we are united by the sport of kings…

Over the past few weeks, I have been posting blogs with the Group races from France and today is no different. Todays meeting is in the evening at Longchamp and features the Group 1 Grand Prix Du Paris, with a couple of Raiders from the UK & Ireland….

Longchamp racetrack

5.00 Roland De Chambure Listed Stakes… 2YO Only… 7f…

Commander & Mowaeva are both unbeaten & 2 from 2 career starts but are rated as outsiders for this 7f Listed race. Helter Skelter is the only C&D winner in the field of 5 runners & has Christophe Soumilon on board having only won a maiden on June 13th and takes a step up in class. Godolphin have the final 2 runners, or should I say Charlie Appleby.
Well of Wisdom was a 5f Newmarket debut winner in April in a Class 4 Novice Stakes before finished 3rd in a Newbury 6f Class 2 Conditions Stakes in May. Took a step up in grade when entered in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at Ascot, finishing a 4 & 1/2 length 9th to Arizona last month and looks to be the second choice with Mikel Barzalona taking the ride with James Doyle preferring SAQQARA KING, who is an American Pharaoh colt. Finished 4th on race course debut in a 6 & 1/2f Doncaster Class 4 Novice Stakes on June 1st before landing a Newmarket 7f Class 4 Novice Stakes by 1/2 a length and will need to take another step forward today now stepping up to listed company and is my choice, although it is likely the 2 Godolphin runners are likely to fill the first two places.

6.10 Maurice De Nieuil Stakes… Group 2…. 1m 6f….

MARMELO was runner up in this race in 2017 to Talismanic but returned last season to take the spoils by 3/4’s of a length from Anglometer before finishing last season as runner up in the Melbourne Cup. This season Marmelo has been running over 1m 4f and made a winning seasonal debut back in April, when landing the Group 3 John Porter Stakes at Newbury before finishing 9th to Defoe in the Group 1 Coronation Cup at Epsom in May before finishing 5th to Coronet at Saint-Cloud in the Grand Prix De Saint-Cloud on June 30th and now steps back up in trip, looking to retain the race & with form over this distance reading 2/2/1/1/3/2 the chance is there for all to see and is the only C&D winner in the field…

Of the other runners.. Holdthasigreen is likely to go off Favourite and also has form over this distance, 5/1/2/1/2/1/1 going back to July 2018 and was well beaten in 5th in the Prix Vtesse Vigier Group 2 on May 26th to Called to the Bar by 7 lengths having beaten Way to Paris on second start of the season in a Group 3 at this course.
Way to Paris has finished runner up last 2 starts and stepped up from 1m 2f when Unplaced in the Group 3 Exbury Stakes at Saint-Cloud in May and was runner up in the above mentioned race on May 26th , when beaten 3 lengths, while the winner of the race was a well beaten 8 & 3/4 lengths to Stadivarius in the Gold Cup at Ascot.
Call the Wind won the 2m 3f Prix Du Cadran in October and it is likely that that is the target for this year again & was beaten 4 & 1/2 lengths in the May 26th Group 2.
The ratings suggest that Way to Paris 116 will win with Holdthasigreen & Call the Wind 115 will be 2nd & 3rd with Marmelo 114 in 4th, but MARMELO drops from Group 1 company and that will be enough to retain the race….

6.45 Grand Prix De Paris… Group 1… 3YO Only… 1m 4f….

JAPAN…. Top rated 117 who has progressed well this season. Started at York in the Group 2 Dante 1m 2f when finishing 4th of 8 by 5 & 3/4 lengths to Telecaster having won 2 from 3 starts as a 2YO. Stepped up in trip to 1m 4f on June 1st when finishing a 1/2 length 3rd to stable companion to Anthony Van Dyke in the Derby at Epsom before heading to Ascot on June 21st when entered in the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes. Japan won with ease by 4 & 1/2 lengths from Bangkok. He is one of two Aidan O’Brien runners, with the other Western Australia likely to be used as the pacemaker for Japan…

Of the others in the field C&D winner Jalmoud, from Charlie Appleby, who landed the Listed De L’arve Stakes on May 4th but finished down the field on June 19th in the gRoup 2 at Ascot in the Queens Vase and was again beaten 3 lengths last time out on June 30th in the Group 2 1m 2f Prix Eugene Adam at Saint-Cloud by Headman and now steps up in trip…
Another Godolphin runner Roman Candle was a Group 2 winner at Saint-Cloud 1m 2f on May 1st by a neck but was  well beaten by 7 & 1/2 lengths 5th in the Group 1 Prix Du Jockey Club 1m 2f last time out and is also stepping up in trip along with Slalom, who finished 12th in the Jockey Club having previously won 3 from 3 career starts.
In Favour was a last time out winner at Maisons-Laffitte winning by 1 length and steps up to Group level for the first time, while Soft Light has finished runner up on last 2 starts in a 1m 4f Group 2, when 4 lengths behind Al Hilalee on June 16th and again back in May to Jalmoud over C&D….This is JAPAN’s race to lose….

Thanks for popping by again & for your continued support….. Keep your eyes open for something on Sunday evening….

Newmarket

2.20 – Akwaan -Was 3rd on seasonal return at Chepstow in May over 1m and 14y, some 4 and 1/2 lengths behind the winner Lady Reset. Was then sent to Salisbury and finished 3rd again over 1m 1f and 201y some 5 and 1/2 lengths behind the winner Pempie. Next race was at Newmarket and raced over 1m and Akwaan won sporting cheeck-pieces with Antico Lady some 2 lengths behind in 2nd. Was sent to Yarmouth for latest victory over 1m and 3y when beating You Little Ripper by 2 lengths again sporting cheeck-pieces. Headgear is retained again for todays race and although is now 7lb worse off that may not be enough to halt the progress here in a similar looking race. Currently available around the 7-2 price with most firms and is a win selection. (Unplaced)

.

4.40 – Advertise -Posted 2 wins and a 2nd from last 3 starts in 2018, the wins came at Newmarket over 6f in July when beating Konchek by 2 length. The 2nd win came at the Curragh in August when Advertise beat So Perfect by 1/2 length over 6f. The 2nd place finish came at Newmarket when 2 and 3/4 length behind Too Darn Hot over 7f. Was well held in the 2,000 Guineas when making seasonal return finishing 15th, was then sent to Ascot to race in the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup and won beating Forever in Dreams by 1 and 1/2 lengths over 6f. Although this race looks a bit deeper Advertise is in good form coming into this race and should give another good show here for M Meade. Currently available around the 4-1 price with most firms and is another win selection.(2nd)

Win Advised

.

5.15 – Dubai Tradition -Has improved with each run so far, finished 3rd on debut at Newbury in May some 5 and 1/4 lengths behind the winner Logician over 1m 2f. Was then sent to Ripon in June and finished a short head 2nd to Future Investment over 1m 2f 190y. Latest race saw Dubai Tradition win over 1m 4f and 5y at Pontefract with Grenadier Gaurd some 2 and 3/4 length behind in 2nd. Looks reasonably treated for handicap debut with opening mark of 83 looking within reach and another bold display can’t be ruled out here. Currently available around the 13/8 price with most firms and is another win selection.(Winner)

Ascot

4.00 – Beat The Bank -Won on seasonal return at Sandown over 1m in the Group 2 Bet365 Mile when beating Sharja Bridge by 1/2 length. Was then sent to Newbury to race in the Group 1 Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes and finished 11th behind the winner Mustashry. Was then sent to Ascot to race in the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes and was beaten a neck by Lord Glitters. Won this race last year and with a repeat of the run shown last time when going down by a neck to Lord Glitters should be enough to take this race, currently available around the 5-2 price with most firms and is my final win selection for the day.(Winner)
Sadly Beat the Bank passed away after the race & our thoughts are with everyone involved with the horse….

Jamie –

2:55 Newmarket – Superlative Stakes (G2) – Selection: Year of the
Tiger
The aptly named Year of the Tiger has a tall reputation at Ballydoyle and he showed an excellent change of gear to get off the mark at Naas last time out.
Before that, he wasn’t disgraced in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot when 7/14. He will have to improve again if he is to win this, but Aidan O’Brien is a master at improving his two – year olds from race to race. He also has a good deal of experience under his belt. The ground is perfect too. Big chance if he has built on his Naas win.(Unplaced)

3:50 York – John Smith’s Cup – Selection: Setting Sail
You will not find many trickier punting puzzles than this. Setting Sail for Charlie Appleby and Jamie Spencer looks to be one of the safer bets in this race. The cosy style of his Newmarket win suggests that there is still plenty more to come from him. He is one of the more unexposed horses in the field and could just well be ahead of the handicapper. Big chances if luck is on his side.(2nd)

4:40 Newmarket – July Cup (G1) – Selection: Dream of Dreams
An absolute cracker of a July Cup with the form of the big Royal Ascot sprints coming under scrutiny. I really do like the chances of Diamond Jubilee runner up Dream of Dreams who seems to be progressing very nicely. Not many horses have gotten so close to beating Blue Point as he did at Ascot, although the Godolphin star was tiring late on. That form is very solid indeed. We all know how Sir Michael Stoute can keep getting improvement out of his older horses. I expect to see him finishing strongly under the red-hot Danny Tudhope. Mind you, I also really like the chances of Fairyland.(Unplaced)

Final Word with Rich –

DANGER… Honest Albert… 2 from 2 landing a Kempton(AW) 1m Class 6 Novice Stakes in November by 2 & 3/4 lengths before making season return over 1 &1/2 miles on June 28th, winning by 1 & 1/2 lengths in a Nottingham Class 4 Novice Stakes from Bayroot….(Non Runner)

4.40 July Cup Stakes… Group 1… 6f…

Advertise…. 3 from4 over 6f as a 2yo with only defeat to Calyx at this distance. Finished runner up behind Too Darn Hot in the Dewhurst when trying 7f in October. Made season return and took a big step up in trip in the 2,000 Guineas, finishing down the field and seemingly not staying the 1 mile trip. Returned to 6f at Ascot in the Commonwealth Cup Group 1 winning by 1 & 1/2 lengths from Forever in Dreams….(2nd)
DANGER… Dream of Dreams… Chelmsford Class 2 6f winner in April before stepping up to Listed company at Windsor, winning over 6f in May by 1 length. Got very close to Blue Point, a head, in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Ascot last time out & that race has produced a Listed & Group 3 winner since, plus Jockey Danny Tudhope is running at a 25% SR with 18 wins, 19 places from last 71 rides in 14 days…(Unplaced)

Charlie –

Newmarket

3.00 – Outbox 7-1 – Is lightly raced for a 4 Yr old, won on debut at Ffos Las over 1m 3f and 209y beating Spirit Ridge by 2 and 3/4 lengths. Next race was at Leicester and Outbox won again over 1m 3f and 179y beating Forrest View by 1 and 1/4 lengths. Was then sent to Newbury and won again over 1m 5f and 61y beating Elegiac by 3/4 of a length. Was then put away for the winter before making Seasonal return in a listed race over in France and lost by a head to Funny Kid. Currently available around the 7-1 price and looks unexposed over this distance. Will be a lot sharper after that close 2nd on seasonal return over in France and could easily go in again here and is today’s 3b selection.

Win Advised

.

3.35 – Qabala 7-2 – Won first 2 starts here, first one was back in September last year on debut when beating Desirous by a head. Next one was in April this year when beating Mot Juste by 1 and 3/4 lengths both over 7f. Returned to Newmarket on the 5th of May in the 1,000 Guineas and finished 3rd behind Hermosa. Next race was the Irish 1,000 Guineas at the Curragh and Qabala finished 9th behind Hermosa. Qabala scoped dirty after that run and can be forgiven that poor show. If fully recovered can continue progressing here and will be in the mix come business end of race.

Win Advised

.

4.45 – Breathtaking Look 9-2- Has only had 5 starts and has won 3 of them, first one was at Yarmouth over 6f and 3y and Breathtaking Look won beating Dosc by 2 and 1/4 lengths. Next win came at Newcastle in November last year when beating Reconcile by 1/2 length over 6f. Was put away for the winter before making seasonal return at York and only lost marginally to Agincourt who won with Starlight Romance in 2nd with Breathtaking Look in 3rd but there was only a nose and a neck separating the 3. Returned here for latest race and won again beating Agincourt by 3 lengths over 7f. If showing up in same mood could easily go in again and at around the 9-2 price is today’s Nb selection.

Win Advised

Jamie –

3:00 Newmarket – Bet 365 Trophy – Selection: Outbox
This race is always a tough puzzle to solve and this year is no different. Outbox is one of the more unexposed types in this race having only had the four runs so far in his career. Last time out he crossed the channel to France for a listed race. Outbox was just
headed close home, it was a good run on his seasonal reappearance.
He should improve for that run and can go very well here for top
connections.

3:15 York – Summer Stakes (G3) – Selection: Royal Intervention
Royal Intervention has been highly tried this season. The Daughter of Exceed and Excel has taken in the Temple Stakes and the Commonwealth Cup, with respectable efforts in both those races. She might not be Group 1 class, but I expect to see her winning a black type race somewhere before 2019 is out. Her form doesn’t put her far away here and with a substantial drop in class she could well outrun her odds. At a big price I believe  she among the best e/w bets of the days.

3:35 Newmarket – Falmouth Stakes (G1) – Selection: Qabala
Low on numbers but high in quality sums up the Falmouth Stakes, all six runners have claims of winning. While the favourite One Master will be hard to beat I think Qabala will bounce back for Roger Varian.
The selection won a 1000 Guineas trial in good fashion before finishing third behind Hermosa in the big race itself. She scoped abnormally after the Irish 1000 Guineas, so you can put a line through that performance. With the weight allowance for three-year olds she obviously holds a great chance. And three-year olds have a
fantastic record in this Group 1.

Final Word with Rich –

Thanks guys and all the best for today… Yesterday we had a bad day, with only the danger winning the opener for Rich lets hope today is better… Just the two from myself….

Newmarket – Good to Firm

2.25 Duchess of Cambridge Stakes… Fillies Group 2… 2YO Only… 6f…

Daahyeh…Winner at this course on debut over 6f in a Class 4 Novice Stakes by 1 & 3/4 lengths on May 18th when beating Raffle Prize. Made it 2 from 2 in the 6f Group 3 Albany Stakes at Ascot by 1 & 1/2 lengths…..
DANGER…. Raffle Prize… Since debut defeat to Daahyeh has won 2 from 2. Landed a Class 2 6f Maiden at Chester and made it 2 wins from 3 when taking the Group 2 5f Queen Mary Stakes at Ascot on June 19th by a head. Has to carry 3Lb more than Daahyeh.

3.35 Falmouth Stakes… Fillies & Mares’ 3YO & Above.. Group 1… 1m…

Qabala… Has won twice at this course. Debut winin a Class 4 maiden last September before winning again on season return in the Group 3 Nell Gwyn Stakes, both wins over 7f. Stepped up to 1m in the 1,000 Guineas when finishing 3rd by 1 & 1/4 lengths. Never really travelled in the Irish 1,000 Guineas, finishing well down the field and that could have been 3 runs in a short space of time from return on April 16th. Has been given a little break in the hope that does the trick. Along with stable companion Mot Juste, they both carry 8S 12Lb’s due to weight for age(3yo) as the rest of the field(4yo) carry 9S 7Lb….

RECAP of yesterdays results….

Charlie – Waldstern finished 6th, Kinks finished 11th and Moqtarreb finished 4th.

Rich – Barbados(Unplaced) & Spanish Mission(Winner)… Guildsman(Unplaced)…. Mirage Dancer(2nd) & Masar(Unplaced)…

Newmarket – July Meeting Day 1

Hello and welcome to arseonlineracing. A 100% independent racing website with NO affiliate links. This website is curated by 2 racing enthusiasts from either end of the British Isles. Charlie hails from Glasgow, while Rich is from the Isle of Wight…. Miles apart but united by the sport of kings….

Thanks for joining us for the opening day of Newmarket’s July Meeting. Today Charlie will have his selections while Rich will bring you his Final Word Column. Jamie will join us for the weekend, so lets get cracking….

Charlie – Newmarket –

1.50 – Waldstern 9-1 – Waldstern won here on debut in August last year over 1m beating Venedegar by 1 and 1/4 lengths. Was sent to Haydock in September and finished 2nd over 1m to Kadar who won by 1 and 1/4 lengths. Next race was back at Newmarket in October when finishing 4th behind Norway, I’ll Have Another and Nate The Great. More recently was 5th on seasonal return at Chester on the 15th June this year, some 14 length behind the winner Durstan. Should shape better with that run under the belt and is dangerous to dismiss, considering John Gosden has won 4 out of the last 8 renewals. Currently available at 9-1 with most bookies at time of writing and is an Eachway selection.

Eachway Advised

.

3.00 – Kinks 14-1 -Has been running well without winning, but has placed 3rd twice this year, here in May and at Windsor in June over 6f and 5f retrospectively. With a repeat of those runs could see kinks in the mix here, in a very open looking race, has Andrea Atzeni on board and is currently available at 14-1 and is another Eachway selection.

Eachway Advised

.

5.10 – Moqtarreb 100-30 -Moqtarreb has been in fantastic form since finishing 2nd here in a Class 4 over 1m in May to Velorum who won by 1 and 1/4 lengths. Was sent to Doncaster in June and finished 3rd behind Artistic Rifles. Returned here on 22nd June and beat Reynolds by 4 lengths over 1m. If turning up in same mood shown last time could easily go in again here with main danger being Charlie Appelby’s Wings Of Time. Moqtarreb is currently available at 100-30 at time of writing and is today’s Nap Selection.

Win Advised

.

That’s my lot for the 1st day of the July Meeting, hopefully I have picked the right 3 selections and we start with a successful opening day. Good luck if following and remember to keep Stakes small so it doesn’t hurt your pocket. I will now hand you back over to Rich for the Final Word.

Final Word with Rich –

Thanks Charlie, lets grab some winners… & see what I have for you today….

Newmarket – Good to Firm

1.35 Bahrain Trophy Stakes… Group 3… 3YO Only… 1m 5f….

Barbados… A maiden winner at Navan on May 18th over 1m 2f by 5 & 1/2 lengths on career 4th start. Stepped up in trip to 1m 4f in the Listed King George at Leopardstown on June 6th, finishing runner up to Rakan by 3/4’s of a length before heading to Ascot on June 19th in the Group 2 1m 6f Queens Vase, again finishing runner up, this time by 1/2 a length. Takes a slight drop in trip & grade….
DANGER… Spanish Mission… Winner of a Condition Stakes over 1m 2f at Chelmsford(AW) in November by 3 & 1/2 lengths. Made season return at Kempton(AW) over 1m, when finishing 5th in a Class 2 Conditions Stakes on March 6th. Stepped up to Listed company on May 24th at Goodwood over 1m 3f, finishing a close up runner up(Neck) to Private Secretary….

2.25 July Stakes… Group 2… 2YO Only… 6f….

Guildsman… A 6 length winner on race course debut in a Goodwood Class 4 Novice Stakes over 6f before finishing a 3/4’s of a length 3rd to Arizona in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at Ascot on June 18th…

3.35 Princess of Wales Stakes… Group 2… 1m 4f…

Mirage Dancer… Runner up in this race last season by 1/2 a length to Best Solution. Landed a Class 1 Listed 1m 4f race at Goodwood on season return on May 25th by 1/2 a length before finishing a 1 & 3/4 length 3rd to Defoe in the Hardewick Stakes at Ascot on June 22nd….
DANGER…. Masar… Last season’s Derby winner made his seasonal return in the Hardewick Stakes(1m 4f) at Ascot, finishing 5th by 4 & 3/4  lengths behind Defoe, with Mirage Dancer in front. There was excuses as he nearly lost his Jockey out the stalls, was very keen and travelled wide(Not mentioning the bumps) so didn’t have a good race and if leaving all that behind him, may well close the gap with Mirage Dancer & could even reverse form….

That is everything for you today folks, thanks for popping by & for your support..

Jean Prat Group 1 – Deauville

15573_tourismcarousel

Hello and welcome to arseonlineracing. This is a 100% independent racing website with NO affiliate links. Curated by 2 racing enthusiast from either end of the British Isles. Despite being miles apart we are united by the sport of kings….

There is no Charlie today so Rich is flying solo in Deauville, where I am covering 2 races including a Group 1….

1.35 Kistena Listed Stakes… 3YO Only… 6f….

Epic Hero… Has previously run 5 races, all over 7f & 1m. Started the season at Chantilly in March winning over 1m by 8 lengths before finishing runner up by 5 lengths to Persian King in the Group 3 Prix De Fontainebleau on April 14th. Ran again 2 weeks later in the listed Prix Du Pont Nuef Stakes over 7f, finishing 2 & 1/4 lengths 4th of 8, meeting trouble during his run & has not been seen since. Now drops back to 6f…
DANGER…. Duhil… 2 from 2 both over 7f. Making a winning debut back in April by 7 lengths before a 2 & 1/2 length win on June 6th at Longchamp, also drops back in trip…
NOTE -Both horses’ are from Andre Fabre’s yard….

2.52 Jean Prat Group 1 Stakes… 3YO Only…. 7f…

This is likely to go the way of the 3 top rated horses in the field… Too Darn Hot (115) Space Blues (112) & Fox Champion (110)….

Too Darn Hot… Having been 3 from 3 over 7f started this season stepping up to 1m 2f in the Dante at York, when finishing a 1 length runner up to Telecaster, dropped back to 1m in the Irish 2,000 Guineas and finished runner up again in this Group 1 race. Beaten 1 length when 3rd to Circus Maximus in the St James’ Palace Stakes, Group 1 at Ascot . Last years Dewhurst Group 1 winner is due a win and dropping back to 7f could be the answer…
While the DANGERS will come from 2 other British raiders….
Space Blues… Stepping up in grade after finishing a head runner up in the Group 3 Jersey Stakes at Ascot and has 2 wins from 3 runs over 7f. The Class 1 Listed winner landed the Surrey Stakes at Epsom in May & now takes a big step up…
Fox Champion… Disappointed in the St James’ Stakes when finishing 3 & 3/4 lengths behind Too Darn Hot in 7th having previously landed the German 2,000 Guineas and is 2 from 2 over 7f and now drops back in trip….

Preference is for Too Darn Hot to finally land a Group 1 this season at the 3rd time of asking, with the other 2 mentioned following in behind…..

That is it from Deauville… Here is a recap of yesterdays blog post…
