A good day’s racing yesterday & are we ready for more? Today’s highlight is the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks. Ghaiyyath landed yesterday’s Group 1 Juddmonte International with another fine front running display to make it 3 Group 1 wins for the season!

Today we are joined by a guest or two, who will be the filling in the sandwich between Charlie & Rich, after we have a quick recap of yesterday’s thoughts…

2:15 – Goffs UK Premier Yearling Stakes –
Selection: Talbot (e/w)
This is as usual impossible to predict. There are so many unexposed and more exposed horses in with chances here over the straight 6F.
A horse that jumps out to me is Brian Meehan’s colt Talbot. Having taken in the Coventry stakes at Royal Ascot and the Richmond at Goodwood, Talbot has some smart form in the book and is obviously highly thought of at home. He wasn’t completely disgraced in either race. In-between those runs in Group races Talbot took in the 25 runner Super Sprint at Newbury, where he was unlucky not to finish closer than a six length eleventh.
If Talbot can break from the gates much sharper than last time and get into a good position, then there are surely worse each way bets this week. Oisin Murphy in the saddle is a big plus too.
3:45 – Sir Henry Cecil Galtres Stakes –
Selection: Sea of Faith
She will need a bit of luck from stall 11 but I am very sweet on Sea of Faith in this listed contest. The powerful Haggas / Doyle combination team up with this relatively unexposed 4yo Filly. We haven’t seen the daughter of Sea the Stars in just over a year when she easily won a class 2 Fillies Handicap at Salisbury. William Haggas is pitching her in here on her seasonal bow in what to me looks a race that will suit her well with a good gallop up front seeming likely. She has winning form on soft ground, so if the rain does fall a plenty then do not worry. Race fitness may be a concern, however I expect to see that a patient approach from the team around Sea of Faith will pay off. She has an obvious chance of winning this.

2.45 Clipper Logistics Handicap
Montatham has continued to progress through the summer, landing his fourth career win from nine starts last time out. This son of Showcasing held off Dark Vision who has won at listed level since to give the form a boost. He has a 4lb’s higher mark to contend with here, but it’s hard to believe he’s reached the limit of his ability just yet.
3.45 British EBF & Sir Henry Cecil Galtres StakesGold Wand ran a fine race in defeat here at York last month, finishing a close second to Franconia at listed level. The pair pulled more than 4 lengths clear in the final furlong and she looks ready for this step up to 12f today. Gold Wand receives weight from several of her older rivals and must be bang there at the finish.
