Scat Daddy – Part Two – More than just the Sprint King Sire

Scat Daddy
Scat Daddy

When we previously released our first Scat Daddy article, it’s true to say that he was the sprint king sire, with Grade/Group wins from Carravaggio, Lady Aurellio and a couple of others. The tide has turned with Scat Daddy producing some more Group/Graded winners at longer distances than 5 or 6 furlongs. This is mainly due to the breeding with selective Mares’, who have won Graded/Group races over the longer distance. This now add stamina to the Speed poll, creating a very fast horse over the longer distance. Today we look at Scat Daddy and the middle distance progeny winners….

Scat Daddy has now sired Group 1 middle distance winners. The Colt Mendalsshon, who is trained by Aiden O’Brien. Has won the Grade 1, 1m  Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf in November 2017 at Del Mar after finishing Runner up to US Navy Flag in the Dewhurst(7f) Stakes at Newmarket in October 2017, Group Two race. Not a bad start, which would only get better in 2018.

Winning a 1m, Listed race at local track, Dundalk on season return. Mendalsshon headed to Meydan(UAE) for the 1m 1f UAE Derby(on the Dirt) , winning by a massive 18 lengths and now has a choice of the 2,000 Guineas in the UK or The Kentucky Derby!

Mendalsshon, is possibly the most famous Middle Distance Scat Daddy sired winner, but we have found a couple more….

With the possibility of Mendelsshon heading to the Kentucky Derby, it allows us to mention one to note in the USA

Justify

Justify. 3 Year Old Colt, trained by Bob Baffert for the China Racing Club, is a Scat Daddy out of Dam Stage Magic(USA) and cost a fortune. He is unbeaten in 3 runs and recently booked his place in Kentucky, when landing the Santa Anita Grade 1 Derby over 1m 1f. The latest from the late Scat Daddy’s legacy….

Back in the UK and with the new season under way, we have found a Scat Daddy 3 year old colt for you to follow…

Kings Shield
Kings shield

Kings Shield, out of Dam Gender Dance(USA) and trained by John Gosden for Qatar Racing is already a Class 2 winner at Kempton(AW) and hold’s an entry for the 2,000 Guineas but John Gosden has also mentioned the Colt may head to France for their 2,000 Guineas….

But while we all start looking for the next Mendelssohn, the answer may already be out their as the 2,000 Guineas has no less than 7, yes 7 Scat Daddy Progeny entries, while in Ireland there are also a few to keep an eye on…..

What is for sure, we have not seen or heard of the last from the Sprint/Middle Distance sire King! His Legacy will live on…..
