We are delighted to bring you a Rising Star Interview with Tyler Heard, the Richard Hughes based apprentice Jockey is looking to add to his tally of winners & get his claim down as the new season approaches….

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself please?
I’m now 19, I’ve been with Richard Hughes since I was 16 and have had around 200 rides and 19 winners so far. As soon as I left school I moved to Lambourn to work for the boss and haven’t looked back since
What is your earliest racing memory?
My earliest racing memory would be going to Point to Points with my family and watching my dad and brother ride.
Did you always want to be a jockey or did you have another career in mind?
No I always wanted to be a jockey from the day of my first pony race aged 9
What route did you take into racing?
I did a lot of pony racing from the age of 9-16 and I then went straight in to Richard Hughes stable and started full time work after my GCSEs. I had spent a few weeks in the holidays working for him before I left school.
“Excusing his first run, he has won his last 2 races, very decisively and looks very exciting“
Where are you based & how did the opportunity come about?
The opportunity came about after a family friend asked the Assistant trainer at the time if Richard would like to take on another apprentice
Can you remember your first race ride & were you nervous?
My first race was on a horse called Kaths Lustre at Goodwood. I was obviously very nervous but the boss told me to just go out and enjoy myself so that helped
When & where did you have your first winner under rules?
My first winner was with my first ride, Kaths lustre at Chelmsford last February
Do you set any season targets & if so what are they?
I don’t really set targets but I always aim to give every horse that I ride a chance and give them best possible ride I can
Are you superstitious?
No not at all
What has been the best piece of advice you have received?
I think the best piece of advice I’ve been given… Is to think about yourself and no one else. Never mind what everybody else is doing and concentrate on what you are doing
Favourites –
Drink…. Ribena
Food…. Chinese takeaway
Film/TV…. Any Crime Series
Music…. Anything really
Other sports (if any)… Football/Boxing
If you could ride any horse PAST or PRESENT, who would it be & why?
Think it would be Frankel, life would be easy then
And finally……
Can you give our readers a horse to follow for the season please?
To The Bar
Excusing his first run, he has won his last 2 races, very decisively and looks very exciting
A big thanks to Tyler for taking the time to talk to us, we really appreciate it. We would like to wish Tyler all the best for the season ahead & for the future. He is learning from the best & the only way is up…..
