Ascot –

2:25 – greatbritishstallionshowcase.co.uk Swinley Chase (Listed)

Selection: Caribbean Boy

An intriguing and tricky little ten runner handicap contest over three miles sees Caribbean Boy look to register back to back wins. There is a number of reasons why I fancy Nicky Henderson’s grey to run a big race today. First of all he has his favored soft ground today as proved by a much needed confidence boosting win at Kempton last time out on soft going. The form of that race has been enhanced somewhat by Wishing and Hoping running a mighty race to finish second at Warwick last weekend in a good handicap. Caribbean Boy has always been a likeable sort with a good reputation, he is unexposed over this 3 mile trip having had just the one full race over this distance. His course form is pretty ordinary but he appears to still be relatively well handicapped and I am sure he won’t be far away on all known form. At the current prices (7/1 at the time of writing) he may be a tempting each way bet, which I would personally advise.

Lingfield –

3:10 – Watch Free Live Racing Coral Novice Stakes

Selection: Chrysos

This looks a decent Novice Stakes over the mile trip here at Lingfield. It looks to be between the top two in the market, Chrysos & Mizmar. I am going to opt for the former who travelled well at Newcastle on his debut in what looked to be a high standard maiden. Chrysos was up with the pace that day and just found a pair of nicely bred Charlie Appleby runners too strong and faded into fourth, he didn’t help his cause by running too free in the early stages but it was a promising performance in a solid maiden. Chrysos should improve for that experience and that puts him right in the mix today. I have to be honest I am a little disappointed in his price (5/4 at the time of writing), hopefully before post time he may drift out a little. Mizmar is definitely the big danger having had more experience, while it could be worth checking on the price of Prime Objective for each way purposes.

Lingfield – AW – Standard (Polytrack)
12.50 – Maiden Stakes – Class 5 – 3yo Only – 1m 2f…
City Spirit – Cityscape X Cape Spirit 3yo filly.

This is the fillies’ 3rd career start, with the first at Kempton, in a Class 5 Novice Stakes over 1m, when finishing 12 of the 13 runners. She improved for a step up in trip over today’s C&D on January 8th, when finishing a 1 & 1/2 length 3rd of 7 to Reticent, with 2nd Charles St, winning next time out.
The filly has a 5lb sex weight claim & is 1 of only 2 runners with experience over C&D, the other is Favourite, Addingham… EACH WAY

Ascot – Soft
2.25 Swinley Chase – Listed Handicap – Class 1 Listed – 5yo Plus – 2m 7f 180yds…
Fortescue – Shirocco X Last of Her Line 8yo gelding.

In his 3rd year chasing & has 5 wins with 4 places from 13 starts in this sphere, although has no wins in his last 4 starts since returning in October.
The gelding has placed on his last 2 starts, when finishing a length runner up to Five Star Getaway in a 3m Class 2 Chase on December 27th before finishing 3rd, last time out in the Grade 2 Peter Marsh Chase at Haydock over 3m 1f, 3 & 1/2 lengths behind Royal Pagaille, who has since finished 2nd in the Denman Chase.
Ground holds no worries, as stamina is assured in testing conditions & his overall record at this distance reads 10 runs, 5 wins & 4 places – EACH WAY

That’s all for today folks, stay tuned for a BIG Interview announcement at 7pm tomorrow… Plus head to Spotify to check out our Podcast Trailer…

Finding Value….

Welcome to Arseonlineracing. The 100% Independent racing website with NO affiliate links….

Its been a big couple of weeks for us with the publishing of our first BIG Interview of 2022 with Nick Gifford & that was quickly followed by the release of the AOBFS 10 Ballydoyle horses to follow, plus a double blog last weekend & that is just the start…. More on the way in 2022!

Uttoxeter Racecourse

The wonderful sight of Enable & her Kingman foal has put a spring in the step of us all & a glint in the eye, a truly beautiful sight… Frankel is now 14 too, where did that time go?? All in, what feels like a blink of the eye! And the Lincoln is just 42 days away……

Back to today & then there were 3, I guess you’ve all heard the joke about the Englishman, Irishman & Scotsman…

Warwick

2.40 Virgin Bet Handicap Hurdle over 2m

Selection – Fine Casting – 6 year old Gelding out of Shantou and Fine Fortune. Has had 8 career starts winning 3 times and finishing 2nd twice, the wins have came at Newbury X2 and Ffos Las. Won for the first time at Newbury on the 20th January 2021 when beating Mumbo Jumbo by 1 and 1/2 lengths with Saturday Song a further 8 lengths adrift in 3rd. It would be December 2021 before Fine Casting would enter the winners enclosure again when winning at Ffos Las on the 16th December when beating Port or Starboard by 1 and 1/4 lengths with Spike James a further 14 lengths adrift in 3rd. Fine Casting won again at Newbury on 19th January this year when beating John Betjemin by 4 and 1/2 lengths with Sheldon a Nose behind in 3rd. Fine Casting has gone up 6lbs for those wins and if turning up in same mindset shown in those races may have too much class for this field, biggest threat to the selection comes in the shape of Dibble Decker who has won 2 times from last 4 starts.

.

3.50 Virgin Bet Fives Handicap Hurdle over 3m 2f

Selection – In Rem – 7 year old Gelding out of Kapgarde and Etoile Des Iles, has had 8 starts winning 4 times and placing 2nd once. Was 2nd on debut at Stratford on the 30th March 2019 when beaten 10 lengths by Enemy Coast Ahead. It would be 16th October 2021 before In Rem won for the first time when beating Kingston King by 5 and 1/2 lengths at Ffos Las. Won again on the 21st November at Exeter when beating Flutiste by 8 lengths. Won again on next start at Wincanton on the 2nd December when beating Don Alvaro by 7 lengths. Won again on most recent start at Warwick on the 31st December when beating Bean In Trouble by 1/2 length with Sandy Brook a further 13 lengths behind in 3rd. Has gone up 5lbs for those wins and if turning up in same mindset should be capable of overcoming that rise, biggest threat to the selection comes in the shape of Colonel Manderson who won at Southwell last time out.

1:05 – Private Security Limited Supporting Kill GAA Rated Novice Hurdle

Selection: Ben Siegel

This is an intriguing and open looking little Novice Hurdle with all six contenders in with a chance. A big drop in class today surely gives Ben Siegel strong claims. Last time out just a week ago he contested the Grade 1 Juvenile Hurdle at Leopardstown, finding Vauban & Fil Dor too strong up the home straight. This is a lot more straightforward today for Noel Meade’s charge who should be more comfortable at this level. This is Ben Siegel’s third run over hurdles having run on the flat beforehand, he does boast a Punchestown Maiden Hurdle success on his CV, where the re-oposing Brazil was sixth. Should that race last weekend not leave any mark then he won’t be far away. At 15/4 (at the time of writing) this horse is decent value. I am hoping that his connections lofty expectations of him are somewhat rewarded today.

Newbury –

3:35 – Betfair Handicap Hurdle (G3)

Selection: I Like To Move It

It’s a smaller field than usual for the Betfair Hurdle but there is still plenty of potential value for punters to find. Nigel Twiston – Davies has won this very race three times with Novice hurdlers and so I am going to side with I Like To Move It on an each way basis. The son of Trans Island has enjoyed a good season so far with 3 wins from 4 races. I think you can forget about the Ascot race last time as leading didn’t suit him (Nobody wanted to make the running) and he found Jonbon and co too much on the day. These are calmer waters and he should get a good gallop to aim at today. I Like To Move It is still relatively unexposed with 8 races under his belt and he has some good form in the book with a Cheltenham G2 success the highlight of his season so far. At around 10/1 I believe he is a cracking each way bet on suitable ground. Trainer is having a solid season, there is a lot to like.

Warwick –
3.15 – Handicap Chase – Class 2 – 5yo Plus – 2m 4f…
Wishing & Hoping – Beneficial X Desperately Hoping 12yo gelding.

Senior statesman of the race at 12 years old, who has only raced 9 times since January 2021 having been off the track from October 2017. In those 9 races he has won 4 times & changed trainers. 2 of those wins have been for new trainer Melanie Rowley.
The last of his wins was at Aintree on his return from 156 days off in October 2021, when landing a 3m 1f Class 2 Handicap Chase by 8 & 1/2 lengths from Rolling Dylan before he was pulled up in the Grade 2 Many Clouds Chase at the same track on December 4th. He last run on January 15th in a 3m Kempton Class 2 Handicap Chase, coming back in 3rd of 8 runners, 8 & 1/2 lengths behind Caribean Boy & now drops back in trip – EACH WAY

Uttoxeter –
4.18 Handicap Chase – Class 5 (Div2) – 5yo Plus – 3m…
On The Platform – Vailirann X Coca’s Lady 6yo gelding.

A winner on his final hurdle start back in May 2021 in a Class 5, 2m 3f Novice Handicap by 1 7 1/2 lengths at Bangor.
Finished runner up on Chase debut on return in October, 5 lengths behind Representing Bob in a 2m 4f Class 5 Novice Handicap Chase at Bangor.
Ludlow was next up on DEcember 6th in a 2m 4f Class 5 Novice Handicap Chase, finishing a 4 & 1/2 length 4th of 12 to Jobesgreen Lad ( Both runs on Good to Soft ground) before running over C&D on December 31st ( Heavy ground) when stepping up to 3m for the first time. Running well for a long way in the Class 5 Handicap Chase, before tiring & finishing an 18 & 1/4 length 3rd of 11 to winner, One for Mamma, with only 5 runners finishing the race & 4th has since won… – EACH WAY

.

4.20 Bet365 Handicap Hurdle over 2m 3f 171y

Selection – Celtic Flames – 12 year old Gelding out of Celtic Swing and Don’t Forget Shoka, has had 24 races winning 6 times with 3 of them coming at this track, beginning in March 2018 with a 1 and 3/4 length victory over Middlebrow with An Loach a further 6 lengths behind in 3rd. Won again on the 27th February 2020 when beating Kings Warf by 4 and 1/2 lengths with Sword Of Fate a further 17 lengths adrift in 3rd. Won again on the 23rd November 2020 when beating Universal Folly by 5 and 1/2 lengths with Ref Reminder a further 2 and 1/2 length behind in 3rd. Was 5th here on latest start in a conditional Jockeys race on the 3rd of January this year. If turning up in same mindset shown on previous starts here should be thereabouts and at an Eachway price.

2:25 – Bulmers Secret Orchard Leopardstown Handicap Chase (Grade B)

Selection: Ten Ten

A mighty competitive field of 17 go to post for this valuable 2m 5f Handicap Chase. As usual there is plenty of good looking each way bets and the one I like is Ten Ten. There has been some money for the 9yo trained by John Dempsey (14s from 20/1) and he likes the hustle and bustle nature of these big field handicaps. Things didn’t go to plan on his first run of the campaign at Limerick’s Christmas Festival where Ten Ten found the heavy going too much and was pulled up before the 2nd last. Looking at his form he appears to need his first run of the race. His best piece of form came at the Punchestown Festival last year when he was just touched off by Brahma Bull by a neck, a reproduction of that run would see him go close today. The ground should be fine and he races today nearly a stone lighter than last time out and 5lbs lower than the Punchestown Handicap last season. If he’s in good nick then he has every chance of getting in the money.

Each way advised

2:40 – Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle

Selection: Wakool

Nicky Alexander’s Wakool has been progressing at a rate of knots this season and holds leading claims once again today in this qualifier for the Cheltenham three miler. The 6yo has raced three times this season and won all of them, with two of those victories gained over course & distance in comfortable style. A 9lb rise may not be harsh enough and it appears that Wakool is still ahead of the handicapper judging by the style of latest win at Ayr last time out. His course form at Musselburgh (432-11) gives him every chance today. Good ground is ok but a little rain would be beneficial as all his best form is on good to soft. This son of Derby winner Motivater has a very good chance of notching the four timer as he ticks most boxes.

Leopardstown –
3.35 Novice Hurdle – Grade 1 – 5yo Plus – 2m….
Statuaire – Muhtathir X Arret Station 7yo Mare…

3 runs for Willie Mullins & 3 wins. Won her maiden in May by 23 lengths over 2m 2f before beating Wouldn’t You Agree by 1/2 a length in a 2m Novice Hurdle in June. Has a 7Lb mares’ allowance. EACH WAY.

4.10 Handicap Hurdle ( 0-150) – 4yo Plus – 2m….
Wouldn’t You Agree – Fame & Glory X Coolmara 8yo gelding.

A winner on his hurdle debut in a maiden back on June 7th, runner up to Statuaire by 1/2 a length on June 16th.
Finished 2nd on Handicap Debut, opening mark of 116, on July 3rd before finishing 5th of 7 behind Annie G in a Galway Listed Hurdle by 14 lengths.
Won his second race on August 20th over 2m 1f at Killarney in a Handicap Hurdle by 1/2 a length from Visionarian, from a mark of 119.
His last run was back in September in a 2m Listowel Handicap Hurdle, from a mrk of 126, he finished a 1 & 1/2 length 3rd to Dysart Diamond.
Now runs from 125. EACH WAY

Jamie has 2 from the Dublin Racing Festival at Leopardstown & Rich has 1 at Sandown & Lingfield respectively…

2:10 – Patrick Ward & Co Solicitors Irish Arkle Novice’s Chase (G1)

Selection: Riviere D’etel

There may only be six runners in this year’s version of the Irish Arkle but it is no less compelling. The top four in the market appear to be the horses to focus on. I am siding with Gordon Elliott’s Riviere D’etel who has proven herself to be a very smart mare over fences as form figures of 1112 so far this campaign show. Riviere D’etel won by wide margins in graded races at Punchestown and Navan a few months ago and looked to be a Grade 1 performer in the making, it was particularly impressive how she beat Cape Gentleman at Punchestown by 21 lengths. Last time out she improved again to push the mighty Ferny Hollow to a length and a half on Boxing Day over course and distance, that is a good piece of form. Another reason why I fancy her today is the weight allowance, she gets at least 7lbs from her five rivals this afternoon and is rated at 150, the same as Blue Lord, who looks to be the main threat. If she runs up to the level of her last race Riviere D’etel will be hard to beat.

3:15 – Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup (G1)

Selection: Kemboy

We’re in for a quite a treat here as several of Ireland’s top staying chasers put their Cheltenham credentials on the line. I can’t away from the course form of Kemboy who loves it at Leopardstown. The Willie Mullins trained son of Voix Du Nord won this race last year and seems to bring his A game to the Dublin based racecourse. Kemboy put a below par showing in the John Durkan behind when running a huge race in the Savills over course and distance last time out, agonisingly just losing out in third by under a length to Galvin & A Plus Tard. He has the form in the book to win this race again and tactically the presence of Frodon may help Kemboy settle into a nice rhythm and get a lead off the British raider. There is some question marks about his rivals today, especially Minella Indo & Asterion Forlonge, the former may just be out to prep for Cheltenham. The Mullins stable are firing in the winners as usual and all looks set for a big run from Kemboy for what will be one of his big targets of the year as he may not go to Cheltenham. Big chance.

Rich –

Sandown –
1.15 Handicap Chase – Class 2 – 5yo Plus – 1m 7f 119yds…
Bun Doran – Shantou X Village Queen 11yo gelding.

Once had a career high mark of 160 a couple of years ago, as like most of us, we get older & his mark has now dropped to 135. with his last win back in 2019 when landing the Desert Orchid Chase at Kempton.
That said, his last 3 runs have been showing plenty of improvement, this could be down to a wind operation in the summer, culminating in his last run on January 8th over C&D, when finishing just 1 & 3/4 lengths 2nd to Gunsight Ridge, who is also running today. Bun Doran carried 4Lb more last time out & now both run with 11 Stone tomorrow & it should be enough for Bun Doran to turn the form around….

Lingfield(AW) –
4.00 Kachy Stakes – Class 1 Listed – 4yo Plus – 6f 1yd….

A field of 9 go to post for the race named after Dave Lowe’s Sprinter.
Good Effort – Shamardal X Magical Crown 7yo horse.
Has a fine C&D record with 3 from 3 & is 4 from 4 at this course. Is a very good AW 6f horse & is rightly favourite, He won on last run over C&D in the Golden Rose Listed Stakes beating Judicial by 2 & 1/4 lengths back in November. His last run was at Newcastle over 5f, when finishing 3rd of 5 on January 2nd. He really is a horse for Course type. Carries top weight of 9s 3Lb…
BUT at a HUGE EACH WAY price…
Fizzy Feet – Footstepsinthesand X Champagne Mistress 6yo Mare.

Finished 2nd in this race last year, beaten a neck & that denied owner Dave Lowe, what would have been the perfect day. The Kachy owner runs his mare, who like Good Effort, likes it around this C&D, with 4 wins & 2 places from 10 C&D runs. She placed 3rd of 9 on January 15th over C&D – Each Way

Thanks for taking the time to pop by & visit our site, another 2,000+ views for January, so a big thanks for the support it means a lot to us…
