Kempton – (Good to Soft)

12.40 Ladbrokes Novice Hurdle

Go Sacre Go – Out of Network and Altesse Sacre. Is also related to Nicky Henderson’s retired stable star Sprinter Sacre. Go Sacre Go is making UK debut here and Henderson wouldn’t be rushing to put this horse out in a race of this type if he didn’t think he had a chance as he would be risking his 26% strike rate at this track. Go Sacre Go has as good a chance as any in this race and is good Eachway value in the opener.

.

3.00 – King George Vi Chase

Santini – Out of Milan and Tinagoodnight is another horse who is trained by Nicky Henderson, having been supplemented for this race, Santini has some good form in the book having won 3 chases from the 7 contested. The Chase wins have came at Newbury on the 1st December 2018 when landing the John Francome Novices Chase from Rocky’s Treasure who was some 4 length adrift in 2nd. Won again at Sandown on the 10th November 2019 when beating Now McGinty by a head over 3m 37y. Santini was then sent to Cheltenham for next Chase start on the 25th January this year and won again beating Bristol De Mai by 3 and 1/2 lengths over 3m 1f 56y. Santini would return to Cheltenham on the 13th March this year to race in the Cheltenham Gold Cup and was beaten a neck into 2nd by Al Boum Photo over 3m 2f and 70y. Most recently was sent to Aintree for the Many Clouds Chase and finished 2nd again, beaten 1 length by Lake View Lad. Santini and Clan Des Obeaux are almost identical in stats for the King George and at current prices Santini is the value Eachway play against Clan Des Obeaux if Clan doesn’t deliver.

.

3.35 – Ladbrokes Handicap Hurdle

Barbados Blue – Out of Getaway and Buck’s Blue. Has had just the 4 races winning twice and placing 2nd in the other two. The wins have came at Warwick on UK debut when beating Huntsmans Jog by 15 lengths on the 23rd May 2018. Returned to Warwick on the 29th November 2018 and finished 2nd some 2 and 1/2 lengths behind Definitelyanoscar over 2m. Next race was at Taunton on the 4th April 2019 when finishing 2nd again , beaten a neck by Birds of Prey over 2m 3f 1y. Was sent to Kempton for a 3 horse race on the 13th of May 2019 and absolutely destroyed the other two runners by 30 lengths over 2m 5f. If showing up in same mood today should be capable of going in again here in a more competitive race.

1:50 – Kempton – Kauto Star Novices Chase: Selection: The Big Breakaway

There is an open looking feeling about this year Kauto Star Novices Chase where you could make an argument for all seven runners. While I think he may prefer a more galloping track The Big Getaway can make his presence felt at the highest level. Although it is fair to say he will have to improve on what was a shock defeat at skimpy odds last time out at Exeter. Colin Tizzard’s beast of a horse was impressive at Cheltenham when making a successful debut over fences and had many pundits purring. The step back up to 3m will definitely help and he could well be the classiest horse in this field. He will have to be on his A-game to beat Shan Blue who has looked very impressive so far this season. This is a Christmas cracker! The Big Breakaway represents my NAP of Boxing Day.

2:15 – Leopardstown – Racing Post Novice Chase: Selection – Felix Desjy

A small field of six go to post for the opening Grade 1 of the Leopardstown Christmas Festival. Felix Desjy done it nicely at Punchestown last month and held Darver Star comfortably, however I expect Darver Star to make more of an impression here. Felix Desjy is looking an improved horse this season to me and with the form in the book he had a big chance to land his second Grade 1. The first being over hurdles at Aintree last year. Gordon Elliott’s charge is a very consistent horse barring the odd fall. He’s a solid leaper and surely is worthy of being favourite here. Willie Mullins could hold the main danger in the shape of Franco De Port, who is second string judging by jockey bookings but looks very capable of being competitive. Things could get a bit tactical here but I would Felix Desjy to have the class here.

3:00 – Kempton – King George VI Chase: Selection: Cyrname

An absolutely intriguing King George is in store as 8 runners attempt to stop Clan Des Obeaux in his hat trick bid. His biggest danger comes from his stablemate, Cyrname who returned to the track at Halloween with a comfortable win in the Charlie Hall Chase. It was a much needed confidence boost for Cyrname after that horrible fall at Ascot back in February. There are reasons to believe that Cyrname can overturn the form of last years race with Clan Des Obeaux, for a start Cyrname has had a perfect prep with that easy Wetherby success. Meanwhile, Clan Des Obeaux had a tough slog behind Bristol De Mai in the Haydock mud last month. The year before it was role reversal. If the ground stays at good to soft then I would be even more confident about Cyrname’s chances as I believe he is much improved horse on a sounder surface. He holds a good chance but it won’t be easy. At an each way sort of price, Saint Cavaldos could go well if the step up in trip suits.

Chris –

Kempton

1.15 Novices Limited Handicap Chase

Mr One More gets the vote here, this son of Asian Heights made a very good comeback from more than 2 years off when runner-up at Chepstow last month on chase debut, running on well over the minimum trip. This 2m 4f test promises to be right up his street and a mark of 136 could prove lenient based on his novice hurdle form of 2017. At the current prices, he makes plenty of each-way appeal.

3.00 Ladbrokes King George VI Chase

Clan Des Obeaux was a stunning winner of this race last year, and I see no obvious reason why he won’t run a huge race once again. The biggest danger could come from his own stable in Cyrname, who arrives here a fresher horse, but this is much tougher than his win at Wetherby. Clan Des Obeaux put up a fine effort in defeat up at Haydock last month on his first run since wind surgery, and his record second time out since going chasing reads 4 starts, 4 wins. Paul Nicholls will no doubt have him in top shape ahead of his main target of the season.

3.35 Ladbrokes Handicap Hurdle

Whatsupwithyou looked the winner for all money at the Cheltenham November meeting, but wandered about up the hill and ended up beaten in to 2nd. A 5lb rise seems more than fair given he was almost 10 lengths clear of the 3rd that day. I’m hoping conditional jockey Luca Morgan can hold on to him for a bit longer here, as he may well be best delivered late with no time to get distracted and lonely in front. At the current prices he looks a very solid each-way play.

Kempton – Good to Soft (When written)

1.15 Novices’ Handicap Chase – Class 3 – 2m 4f 110yds…

Mr One More – Asian Heights x Norah’s Quay 8yo gelding.
won his first 3 starts, 1 NHF & 2 hurdle races, including a maiden at Hereford & a Class3 1m 7f hurdle at Ascot before finishing 6th in a Grade 2 hurdle at Ascot in December 2017 & 5th of 6 when stepping up in trip to 2m 3f in a Huntingdon Listed hurdle in February 2018.
He was off the track for 1016 days before returning at Chepstow on November 20th in a 2m Class 4 Intermediate Chase, finishing a 1/2 length runner up of 5 runners….

1.50 Kauto Star Novice Chase – Grade 1 – 3m

Enrilo – Buck’s Boum x Rock Treasure 6yo gelding.
The winner of the Grade 2 2m 4f Winter novice hurdle at Sandown in 2019 was also runner up in the Grade 1 Challow novice hurdle in the same year.
He has now gone chasing after having a wind operation.
Made his chase debut at Chepstow in a Class 3, 2m 7f novice chase, when narrowly beaten in to 2nd by a neck from Mighty Don.
he then headed to Exeter in a 3m Class 2 novice chase on November 3rd, winning by 1 & 3/4 lengths from Darlac, who has won since….

Wetherby – Soft…

2.05 Rowland Merrick Handicap Chase – Grade 3 – 3m 45yds…

Snow Leopardess – Martaline x Queen Soraya 8yo mare.
The only mare in the field and receives weight from the rest carrying just 10s 13lb. She has 1 win from 4 starts over 3m+, which was last time out over slightly further 3m 1f at Haydock on November 21st, when she landed a Class 2 handicap chase by 1/2 a length from Commodore on her 3rd chase start….

Thanks for popping by & reading our blog, we really appreciate your support…
Stay safe & have a great time….

Let us take the load & help you with our thoughts on today’s racing….

Charlie –

Haydock- (Heavy)

.

2.05 Betfair Exchange Handicap Hurdle Class 2Albert’s Back – Out of Champs Elysses and Neath. Has won 3 hurdle races out of the 4 contested, the wins have came at Wetherby on soft ground. Although hasn’t won away from Wetherby over obstacles, has ran in a few decent races without being disgraced, most notably was a 2nd placed finish at Leicester on heavy going on the 13th February this year when beaten 17 lengths by First Flow. Won latest race at Wetherby on the 14th November this year when beating Haafapiece by 3 and 1/4 lengths over 2m on soft ground. If showing up in same mood could easily get involved here in a very open looking race.

.

Ascot – (Heavy)

.

3.00 Silver Cup Handicap Chase ListedThe Conditinal – Out of Kalansi and Gorrie Vale. Has ran in 12 chases and has won twice. The most recent victory came at Cheltenham on the 10th March when beating Kildisart by a neck over 3m 1f on soft ground. If handling today’s going could easily get involved here but will need to show more than he has on previous run in the Ladbrokes Trophy when finishing 3rd behind Cloth Cap and Aye Right.

.

3.35Arriverderci – Out of Martaline and Etoile D’Ainay. Has ran in 6 hurdle races winning twice. The wins have came at Hereford, Wincanton and Wetherby. Covering distances of 1m 7f to 2m 3f 54y on Soft ground. Beat Rhosneigr by 1 and 1/4 lengths at Wincanton on the 4th January this year. Won again at Wetherby on the 31st October when beating War Lord by 2 and 3/4 lengths over 2m 3f and 154y. Fell on most recent start at Haydock when 2nd gifting the race to War Lord who he had already beaten previously, if showing up in same mood today and with a clear round can gain compensation here.

.

Jamie –

2:05 – Haydock – Betfair Handicap Hurdle –
Selection: War Lord

Colin Tizzard’s War Lord has strung together strong back to back performances so far this season at Wetherby & Haydock. He is now on a career high handicap mark as a result of that Haydock win which was in Grade 3 company, one of his main rivals today Our Power was back in third that day beaten nearly 3 lengths. It’s likely that War Lord will have to put up an improved performance to win today but at least we know that he likes the track, although the only worry would be the heavy ground as he has never raced on it before. I liked the way War Lord travelled and jumped over course & distance four weeks ago and I’m confident he won’t be too far away. At more value, The Last Day could go well after a year off the track.

2:25 – Ascot – Porsche Long Walk Hurdle –
Selection: Roksana

A little cracker of a Grade 1 here and I have shied away from the big two in Paisley Park & Thyme Hill here. Roksana took the step up to 3m in her stride last time out at Wetherby against the likes of Lisnagar Oscar, Next Destination and Kildisart, giving them an eight length beating on soft ground. For her seasonal reappearance it was a superb effort and with the weight allowance she gets here I feel she could provide a small upset in the final Grade 1 before Christmas. Roksana is a very solid Mare, goes well on soft ground and is proven at Grade 1 level. She has every chance. If Thistlecrack still retains some of his old magic then he could be the e/w value at a big price.

Haydock Park

Chris –

Ascot
2.25 Long Walk Hurdle

Thyme Hill is a seriously progressive 3m hurdler, but I’m sticking with Paisley Park here to turn the Newbury form around. Connections were adamant after the race that the 2019 Stayers Hurdle winner would improve massively for what was a very respectable comeback run. A 3lb swing is also a plus, and with very little splitting the pair at the prices, I’ll side with the Emma Lavelle trained charge.

3.00 Silver Cup Handicap Chase

Espoir De Guye has been well supported and the price has been slashed overnight, but I won’t let that put me off. Venetia Williams runners must be respected at this time of the year when the mud flies, with this son of Khalkevi also boasting a perfect record of 2 wins from 2 at Ascot. He tries 3m for the first time here, but the way this improving 6yo ran over 2m 5f last time gives plenty of hope over staying trips.

3.35 Exchange Trophy Handicap Hurdle

A typically competitive renewal of this race, I’m siding with Harambe of Alan King to take home the spoils. 7yo’s have won 2 of the past 3 renewals and he is only 5lb higher than his Greatwood Hurdle win of last season. Unfortunately he couldn’t repeat that due to falling at the last when bang in contention in the same race a month ago. Better luck hopefully awaits today and should go well at a very good price.

Final Word with Rich –

Linfield (AW) – Standard….

2.00 Quebec Stakes – Class 1 Listed – 1m 2f…

Dubai Warrior – Dansilli x Manbooba 4yo Colt.
Winner of this race last season when beating stable companion, Court House by 2 & 3/4 lengths & warmed up for this race by landing the Listed Churchill Stakes over C&D by 3 & 1/2 lengths on November14th.
Has only had 1 defeat on AW at Chelmsford, back on September 4th 2019 in a Class 2, 1m 2f Handicap by a neck to Desert Fire.
The Winter Derby Group 3 winner.
3 from 3 over C&D. 4 from 5 over distance on AW & 6 from 7 career runs on AW….
Top rated 114.

Haydock – Heavy…

2.05 Handicap Hurdle – Class 2 – 2m 2f 191yds….

Chirico Vallis – Poliglote x Quora Vallis 8yo gelding.
2 runs over 2m 3f since 21st October when he won a Class 3 Handicap Hurdle at Fontwell by 2 & 1/2 lengths before a neck runner up at Bangor on November 11th to Mint Condition.
Heavy ground is no issue with 2 wins from 4 runs on the ground.
Top Rated 141…

.

1.15 Ibelo – Out of Dick Turpin and Mahendra. Has had 4 chase starts in 2020 finishing 1st in two and finishing 2nd in the other two. The wins came at Wincanton on the 30th January when beating Jaytrack Parkhomes by 4 lengths over 1m 7f and 149y on soft ground. Won again at Huntingdon on the 20th February when beating Fanzio by 9 and 1/2 lengths over 2m and 104y on Heavy ground. The 2nd places came at Huntingdon on the 1st March when beaten 4 and 3/4 lengths over 2m 3f and 189y on Heavy ground. Most recently was 2nd again at Ascot on the 31st October when beaten a short head by Amoola Gold over 2m 167y on soft ground. Ibelo has been in great shape since switching to Fences and if showing the same attitude at Cheltenham today could easily go in again, biggest threat comes in the shape of Zanza who won last time out at Newbury.

.

3.00 Ch’tibello – Out of Sageburg and Neicha. Although hasn’t won since 15th March last year, has ran with some promise finishing 3rd on 3 separate occasions and finishing 2nd once since then. The 3rd placed finishes have came at Aintree on the 4th April 2019 when behind winner Supasundae and Buveur D’Air over 2m 4f on soft ground. Finished 3rd again on the 14th December last year when behind Call me Lord and Ballyandy over 2m 179y on soft ground. Finished 5th on next start in the Christmas hurdle at Kempton on boxing day last year behind winner Epatante. Returned to Kempton on the 22nd February when finishing 3rd again behind winner Song For Someone over 2m. Went to Aintree for latest race and finished 2nd to winner Summervile Boy beaten 1/2 length over 2m 4f on Good to Soft ground. Ch’tibello has ran well without winning on numerous occasions and it’s only a matter of time before he gets his head in front and returns to the winners enclosure. Main dangers come in the shape of Goshen and Song For someone.

.

3.35Aggy With It – Out of Presenting and Agathe Du Berlais. Has had 3 starts in 2020 finishing a 3 length 2nd to Perfect Myth at Market Rasen over 2m 125y on Good ground on the 26th September. Returned to Market Rasen on the 17th October stepping up in distance to 2m 4f 139y and won beating Alpha Carinae by 1 and 1/2 lengths on Good ground. Was sent to Taunton for latest race on the 12th November to race over 2m 3f 1y and won again beating Fitzroy by 2m 3f 1y on Good ground. If showing up in same mood could easily go in again, biggest threat comes in the shape of The White Mouse and Eglantine Du Seuil.

.

Jamie –

1:50 – Cheltenham – Caspian Caviar Gold Cup –
Selection: Windsor Avenue

17 go to post for the latest renewal of the Caspian Caviar with many potential winners. While my selection here Windsor Avenue doesn’t have a lot of experience over fences (5 runs), he does still remain somewhat unexposed with improvement likely to come today after an excellent performance to finish second behind the very smart Imperial Aura at Carlisle last time out. That run was Windsor Avenue’s first since was a wind operation back in January and they always say that the second race back after a wind operation is when the horse will feel the benefit of it, that being that it has worked. The soft ground is to his advantage and I believe the stiff Cheltenham finish will suit him well. Connections will be hopeful he can build on that Carlisle run. At a big price I fancy Southfield Stone to put up a big effort at a course he likes.

3:00 – Cheltenham – Unibet International Hurdle –
Selection: Goshen

It is fair to say that there is a lot of hype about what Goshen could do this season and they will all be expecting a win here today. I must say I am really looking forward to seeing him today as he looked exceptionally talented in the Triumph Hurdle before his heart breaking unsettling of Jamie Moore at the final hurdle.
If he is to win a Champion Hurdle then he really should be putting his nine rivals today to the sword. He looks different class to these and with the benefit of a run on the flat under his belt he will be very hard to beat. Especially with the weight allowance he gets for being a 4YO. Somerville

7:45 – Wolverhampton – Class 5 Handicap –
Selection: Tathmeen

It was a promising run at Newcastle last time out that puts Tathmeen into my tips for today. At 18/1 he finished a close third in a better race than today, cutting his way through the field. Tathmeen is very much an all weather specialist and despite not having won for well over a year I think today could be his lucky day, or evening in this case! Stall 9 isn’t ideal for the 6F trip but he will likely be held up again and produced for a late run. The faster they go up front the better for him!

Elixir Du Nutz (Fran Altoft)

Final Word with Rich –

Doncaster (Good to Soft) –

12.20 Handicap Chase – Class 3 – 2m 78yds…

Billingsley – Millenary x Retain the Magic 8yo gelding.

A second season chaser, who has won 3 of his 4 starts last season, with his only non finish was when he unseated jockey on debut.
He has won 2 Class 3 Chases’ to date, both over 2m & 1/2f at Haydock (Jan 2020) & last time out at Newbury, by 1/2 a length in February.
His form over 2m & 2m1/2f is 5 from 5, makes season return & carries penalty for Newbury win….

12.55 Handicap Hurdle – Class 2 – 2m 128yds….

Native Fighter – Lawman x Night of Magic 6yo gelding.
Has made 3 hurdle starts to date for his 4th trainer. Won a 2m 1f Class 3 handicap hurdle in October 2019 at Carlisle before making a couple of starts on the flat.
Returned to hurdles in July 2020, when 3rd of 10 in a Class 4 handicap hurdle over 2m 6f at Cartmel before dropping back in trip to 2m 4f at Perth in August, winning by 3/4’s of a length from Dear Sire, who has since won in this class. Raised 4 for that win & has been off since….

Hereford (Soft) –

1.57 Novice Chase – Class 3 – 2m 8yds….

Elixir De Nutz – Al Namix x Nutz 6yo gelding.

Winner of the Supreme Novice Hurdle Trial (Cheltenham 2018) Grade 2 & Tolworth Novice Hurdle (Sandown 2018) Grade 1 before finishing 7th in the International, Grade 2, Cheltenham (December 2019) & 7th, when last seen on Boxing Day 2019 in the Grade 1 Christmas Hurdle at Kempton. Has had a wind operation & makes his chasing debut on seasonal return…..

Thanks for popping by & we hope you are all well & staying safe…

We have a full house today (Charlie, Chris, Jamie & Rich) are all here with their thoughts, so lets get started….

Charlie –

Aintree – Soft

1.30 William Hill Becher Handicap Chase (Grade 3) over 3m 1f and 188y.

Minellacelebration – Out of Kings Theatre and Knocktartan Has been in great form of late since beaten a neck at Doncaster back in February when just failing to get head in front of Burton’s Well in closing stages over 2m 7f and 214y . Went one place better on next start at Uttoxeter in July when beating Bandsman by a neck over 3m 2f and 13y. Was sent to Aintree for latest race and won again beating Pobbles Bay by 14 lengths over 3m and 210y. If showing up in same mood as shown in last 3 runs could easily outrun today’s price of around 16-1 but will need a couple of today’s runners to underperform.

.

SandownHeavy

3.00 Betfair Exchange Back and Lay London National Handicap Chase 3m 4f and 166y.

Cloudy Glen – Out of Cloudings and Ribble. Beaten 3 and 1/2 lengths by Deise Alba when last seen here back in February over 3m and 37y. Fell at Warwick on the 21st February when racing over 2m 4f. Was a well beaten 6th on next start at Uttoxeter on the 14th March when racing over 3m and 2y. Was then sent to Fontwell for next run on the 15th November when beating Christmas in April by 13 lengths over 3m 3f and 149y. If repeating that run shown last time that should be enough to take this race at the expense of Classic Ben and Crosspark who should push the selection all the way to the line.

.

3.35 Betfair Exchange December Handicap Hurdle (Listed) over 1m 7f and 216y.

Mister Coffee -Out of Authorised and Mamitador Has been in great form winning 3 out of the 4 hurdles races contested and finishing 2nd in the other. The wins have came at Huntingdon and Newbury last season, followed by a 2nd place finish on final run at Huntingdon in January this year. Made seasonal return at Sandown in November this year and won beating Oscar’s Leader by 5 lengths over 1m 7f and 216y. If showing up in same mood can easily go in again, biggest threat comes in the shape of Benson who has won last 2 starts for Dr Richard Newland and Solo who is trained by Paul Nicholls.

.

Jamie –

1:08 – Navan – Handicap Hurdle (Grade B)
– Selection: Shattered Love

You could be forgiven for describing this 20 runner Grade B as very competitive. There is many in with chances but for such a classy mare Shattered Love with 7lb claimer Gavin Brouder in the irons looks to hold solid claims of making it back to back victories. The former JLT (Marsh) Novices Chase winner at the festival returned to the winners circle in a listed Mares Chase three weeks ago at Clonmel, she jumped very nicely and ground it out. Connections will be hoping for the rain to fall but Shattered Love does have some decent form on good to soft ground. The big field may be a slight concern but with a bit of luck she will not be far away on all known form. Gordon Elliott has his team in very good form as we all seen last weekend at Fairyhouse.

2:25 – Sandown – Tingle Creek Chase
– Selection: Rogue Vif

A cracker of a Tingle Creek is in store for us today as Champion Altior makes his eagerly awaited reappearance. I think though he is worth taking on as he looks vulnerable to me today with a lack of a recent run and being a year older. Rouge Vif really caught me by surprise in a Cheltenham handicap back in October, it was a top performance and left many racing fans considering him to be a Champion Chase contender. I guess today we will find out. Rouge Vif looks to be the improver in the field, how much more can Altior and Politologue improve at their age? Rouge Vif is also very consistent and with race fitness on his side he can make his mark on the two mile chase division.

3:15 – Aintree – Grand Sefton Chase
– Selection: Modus

A 2m 5f test over the national fences with the market leaders at 6/1 giving an indication of just how open this race is. I like the chances of Modus here for the Nicholls / McManus combination. This 10yo gelding has plenty more to give judging by a very respectable 6th in the Galway Plate which was followed on November 1st with a good win over Springtown Lake over fences at the same Merseyside course. He will need to jump a bit cleaner than he did that day over these big fences but Modus is in top form and is in with a fair shout. Trip and ground hold no fears and he comes into the race on the back of a confidence boosting win. You can see why many people think he’ll give a good account of himself today.

Chris –

Aintree
1.30 Becher Handicap Chase

Vieux Lion Rouge needs little introduction around these fences having won and placed in this race previously. Things didn’t go his way last year after winning at Chepstow, however he reappeared with a fair 5th here over the Mildmay course, when looking in need of the run. He had been given a real chance by the handicapper and has dropped down to 140, 2lbs below his last winning mark. Soft ground is fine and looks a great each-way bet at the prices.

3.15 Grand Sefton Handicap Chase
Didero Vallis ran well for a long way in this race last term, eventually finishing 5th. Despite 2 decent runs since, he arrives here 3lbs lower and the stable are once again firing now the winter ground has set in. He’s not been missed in the betting over the past 24 hours, but I can’t leave him unbacked.
At a huge price Beau Bay is 1lb lower than last years 3rd, with Charlie Hammond also taking off an extra 3. He is more than capable of getting involved off that mark with firms offering extra places.
