Charlie

Newton Abbot 2.30  As You Like 100-30 – Has been in fantastic form since June 2018 and as a result hasn’t been out of the first 2 places in previous 5 runs. Although has only had 2 runs this year so far, has finished 2nd and then 1st in last two visits to Newton Abbot the win coming after placing 2nd here a neck behind Battle Of Ideas on seasonal return over 2m 4f and 216y. The win came on the 29th July when seeing off Bramble Brook by 1 and 1/2 length over 2m 4f and 216y. Has been raised 3lbs for latest efforts and that may not be enough to stop a repeat performance today.

Win Advised (WINNER)

.

Wolverhampton 3.30Seven Clans 4-1 – Seven Clans has won here before when landing 2 wins in April last year over course and distance. Although was well held on seasonal return at Kempton when not given a hard time and finished 12th of 14. With that run under the belt should strip fitter here at a track the horse loves and is taken to land the spoils today but will need to step up on last run.

Win Advised (UNPLACED)

.

Beverly 4.25 Red Seeker 5-1– Winner of last 3 races including 2 here over 7f and 96y. Has been raised 6lbs for latest victory at Doncaster when beating Valley Of Fire a head over 7f and 6y. Will need to step forward again and could outrun that 6lb rise if showing up in same mood as last time.

Win Asvised

.

Well that’s my thoughts on today’s selections, good luck if following and please remember to keep stakes small so it doesn’t hurt your pockets. I will now hand you back over to Rich for the final word.

.

Everywhere you look Buzz…. Group Races!

Hello and welcome to arseonlineracing. This is a 100% independent racing website with NO affiliate links. It is curated by 2 racing enthusiasts from either end of the British Isles, Charlie hails from Glasgow while Rich is from the Isle of Wight… Miles apart but united by the sport of kings…

Yesterday news broke that two horses sadly passed away. The Champion Hurdler Espoir D’Allen, who had been injured in an accident at Gavin Cromwell’s yard sadly passed away, our thoughts go to everyone.
Then an hour later we received news that Roaring Lion had also lost his life due to another bout of Colic while at Stud in New Zealand. Our thoughts go out to all at Qatar Racing & Tweenhills Stud.
Both were Champions, one had a lot more racing to come while Roaring Lion had retired and was looking to a happy retirement.. A sad day for racing of both codes….

York

1.55 – Wissahickon – Comes into today’s race in fine fettle, having won 4 times and placing 2nd once in last 5 starts dating back to September last year. The Wins have came at Newmarket in September 2018 when beating Mordin by 3 and 3/4 lengths over 1m 1f in a Class 2. Won again next time out at Lingfield starting a hat-trick of wins there, when beating Big Country by 2 and 1/4 lengths in a Class 1 Listed race over 1m 2f on the 22nd December 2018. Returned to Lingfield to race in the Class 1 Listed Betway Winter Derby Trial Stakes on the 2nd February this year and won again beating Big Country again by 3/4 of a length over 1m 2f. Returned to Lingfield on the 23rd February to race in the Group 3 Betway Winter Derby Stakes over 1m 2f when completing the hat-trick by beating Court House by 3 and 1/4 lengths. Was then sent back to Lingfield on the 19th April this year to race in another Class 2 and finished 2nd, beaten some 7 lengths by Matterhorn. Has gone up another 3lbs and although was well held last time out had been in great shape prior to that and could bounce back if coping with the extra weight.

Win Advised

.

3.00 – Laurens – Laurens made seasonal return in the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes at Newbury on the 18th May and finished a 2 and 1/2 length 2nd to Mustashry over 1m. Was then sent to Ascot on the 18th June to race in the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes over 1m and finished 6th behind Lord Glitters. Laurens next race would be over in France on the 28th July when Winning the Group 1 Prix Rothschild over 1m beating With You by 1/2 length. Has gone up 5lbs and takes a drop in distance to 7f today and could go in again if handling the extra burden.

Win Asvised

.

Goodwood

2.05 – Skardu -Has had 3 decent runs in Class 1 company this year winning one and finishing 3rd and 4th in the other two. The win came at Newmarket in the Class 1 Group 3 Craven Stakes over 1m beating Momkin by a neck. Returned to Newmarket for the 2,000 Guineas over 1m on the 4th of May when finishing 3rd some 4 and 1/4 lengths behind Magna Grecia. Most recent race saw Skardu run in the Class 1 Group 1 St James Palace Stakes over 7f and 213y at Ascot and Skardu finished 4th but was only beaten about 2 lengths. If showing up in same mindset could easily win here but will need to dig a little bit deeper.

Win Advised

.

2.40 – Boomer -Was 4th on racecourse debut at Haydock on the 4th of July some 4 length behind winner Path Of Thunder over 7f and 75y. Was then sent to Newbury to race in the Pepper Pink Gin EBF Maiden Fillies Stakes over 7f and the daughter of Kingman didn’t dissapoint when beating Deep Snow by 3 and 1/2 lengths. Should have learned a lot from that win and although this race looks a bit deeper with normal progression should be capable of getting involved here and is taken to gain another win for connections.

Win Advised

Final Word with Rich…..

Thanks Charlie, lets make it a great Saturday….I have York & Goodwood covered…

York – Good to Firm….

1.50 Strensall Stakes… Group 3… 1m 177yds….

Wissahickon….Winner of the Winter Derby at Lingfield prior to being beaten on All Weather Champs day by Matterhorn in the Middle Distance. has not been seen since. Landed the Cambridgeshire last season and won a Class 2 Handicap at this course last June. Season return & down in trip….

3.00 City of York Stakes… Group 2… 7f…

Laurens… Has not run over this distance since August 2017 when runner up in a Deauville Group 3. The 6 time Group 1 winner was in fine fettle when landing the 1m Group 1 Prix Rothschild at Deauville last time out on July 28th. Now eased in grade can add another Group win to her CV. Likely to go from the front & it will be a case of catch me if you can!

3.40 Ebor Handicap… Class 2… 1m 5f 188yds…

Kings Advice… Has only lost one race since joining the yard from Germany, Landed a Class 5 1m 4f Handicap on UK debut by 3 lengths and has risen through the classes. The only defeat cam at Newcastle(AW) in the Northumberland Plate. Has run twice since, winning both at Ascot and last time out in a Class 2 1m 6f Handicap by a neck at Goodwood. 4 wins from 4 runs at this distance & 7 wins from 8 UK runs….

Goodwood- Good…

2.05 Celebration Mile… Group 2… 1m…

Dukes of Hazzard… Landed the 1m Sir Henry Cecil Listed Stakes at Newmarket on July 11th before taking a C&D Group 3 1m Thoroughbred Stakes by 1/2 a length in first time blinkers on August 2nd. 2 from 2 at Goodwood….

Sir Ron Priestly… 4 wins from 5 runs this season since stepping up in trip to 1m 4f. Landed a 1m 6f Handicap at Haydock on July 6th by 1/2 a length before getting the better of a cracking race at this course in a Class 2 1m 4f Handicap, when winning by a neck on July 21st. Worth a crack at this level….

That is everything for you today folks… Thanks for your support and for popping by….

Million Pound Stradivarius??

Charlie landed a nice winner with Mums Tipple at 6/1 while Rich could only muster Enable, who won her 12th race on the bounce and heads to the Arc looking to make more history…

Charlie –

1.55 – Mandarin 8-1 – Hasn’t been out of the first 3 home in last 5 runs, comes here having beaten Hats off to Larry by 3 lengths over 1m 2f at Windsor, then beating Past Master by 2 and 1/2 lengths at Newmarket over 1m 4f. Was 3rd in the Shergar Cup at Ascot last time out behind Indianapolis and Genetics. With a repeat of the form shown in those 3 races should be enough to take the spoils here.

Win Advised UNPLACED

.

3.00 -Spartan Fighter 8-1 – Was 4th on racecourse debut at Carlisle over 5f back in May this year behind Rayon. Was then sent to Ripon and won beating A’Ali who has won twice at Group 2 level since. Next race saw Spartan Fighter win again here over 5f and 89y beating Fanzone by 1 length. If turning up in same mood should go close again here with a similar display.

Win Advised UNPLACED

.

4.15 – Molatham 7-4 – Was beaten a neck into 2nd on debut at Ascot by Mum’s Tipple who was sensational here yesterday winning by 11 lengths. If repeating that performance that should be enough to gain compensation in today’s race.

Win Advised WINNER

.

@Glen_Colt (Jamie) –

3:00 – Al Basti Equiworld Gimcrack Stakes – Selection: Threat – WINNER
Richard Hannon has his team in fine fettle and he can enjoy another winner here with smart 2yo Threat. This Son of Footstepsinthesand has the best form line coming into today’s race with runner up finishes in the Coventry and Richmond Stakes. The return to a flat will help Threat feel more comfortable than he did at Goodwood. On all known form he is the one to beat. Sets a good standard and further progress is more than likely.

3:35 – Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes – Selection: Ten Sovereigns – UNPLACED
A belting race in prospect with Battaash taking on July Cup winner Ten Sovereigns. I must just side with Ten Sovereigns as Battaash doesn’t seem to be in love with the Knavesmire. The drop down in trip is the only question mark I would have over Ten Sovereign’s chances, although the way he quickened clear at Newmarket to beat the subsequent Maurice de Gheest winner Advertise readily is still clear in my mind. The ground is perfect for him and if he has progressed even more from Newmarket then he has got to have a huge chance.

4:50 – Accident Repairs Services Handicap – Selection: Biometric – UNPLACED
The horse that “shot Bambi” as Ed Chamberlain puts it when Biometric denied Frankie Dettori five wins from five races on Gold Cup day at Royal Ascot. To be fair Biometric won well that day. I was disappointed when I backed him at Glorious Goodwood when he tailed off eighth in a G3. However, I have not lost faith in this horse and the drop-in class can help even with a big weight to shoulder. I can see a lot of pace on here which will suit him well as he is a hold up horse. A big chance if he returns to Ascot form but he will need to.

img_20190820_2001378539155212637904401.jpg

Final Word with Rich –

Thanks guys…. I have 3 more from York and I am looking for my luck to change today…

2.25 Lonsdale Cup… Group 2… 2m 56yds

Stradivarius…. Has finished in fron of Dee Ex Bee by a head at Goodwood in the 2m Goodwood Cup last time out having finished ahead previously at Ascot in the 2m 3f Gold Cup in June having landed the Yorkshire Cup(1m 6f) at this course back in May. Won this race last season to land the Million Pound Stayers Series and this is the last leg of 2019, can he do it again? YES…. WINNER
Dee Ex Bee will lead the DANGERS and you cannot rule out Falcon Eight either but I think it will be these two filling the places…..

3.00 Gimcrack Stakes… Group 2… 2YO Only… 6f….

Spartan Fighter….Beaten 1 & 1/2 lengths by Rayong on race course debut on May 20th in a Carlisle 5f Class 4 Novice Stakes before landing the odds at Ripon in a 5f Class 4 Novice Stakes when beating A’ali by a neck( Since won Norfolk Stakes & Robert Papin Group2 in France). Stepped up in Class on July 12th when landing a Class 3 5 & 1/2f Novice Stakes by 1 length at this course. Slight increase in trip…. UNPLACED

3.55 Nunthorpe Stakes… Group 1… 5f….

Ten Sovereigns… Has 4 wins over 6f and beat Advertise in the Group 1 July Cup at Newmarket by 2 & 3/4 ‘s of a length when dropping back to 6f having been tried over further. Advertise has since won a French 6f Group 1 and now tries 5f for the first time… UNPLACED
DANGERS…. Battaash has to give Ten Sovereigns 3Lb due to age to weight with TS being just 3. Having finished 4th in this race for the last 2 seasons will be looking for the win but I am not convinced the track suits him and is 2 from 3 over 5f this term, with only defeat to Blue Point, while Mabs Cross, who also gets weight from Battaash, due to being a mare finished runner up in this last season but was 3 & 1/4 lengths behind Battaash when 3rd at Haydock….

That is everything for you today folks, remember if you cannot afford to bet just watch….

Yorkshire Oaks Day at York

Hello and welcome to arseonlineracing. This is a 100% independent racing website with NO affiliate links. It is curated by 2 racing enthusiasts from either end of the British Isles, Charlie hails from Glasgow while Rich is from the Isle of Wight… Miles apart but united by the sport of kings…

Thanks for joining us on Day Two of the York Ebor festival. This week features some top class racing with the best horses going head to head on the Knavesmire and the highlight of Day Two is the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks…

What a start to the Ebor Festival with Logician winning very well & the shock of Crystal Ocean being beaten by a short head by Japan…. Yesterdays blog was updated with the results….

As like yesterday we are joined by @Glen_Colt (Jamie) who put up Japan yesterday and will be the filling in the Sandwich between Charlie & Rich, so we best get under starters orders….

img_20190820_2002527256694401239670828.jpg

Charlie –

1.55 – Selection – Under The Stars 4-1 -Has only had 2 races thus far and has won both for trainer J Tate. First of those wins came at Ripon in a class 5 auction over 6f when beating Requiem’s Dream by 3 lengths. Was sent to Ascot for next race on the 27th July and won again beating Aroha by 1/2 length over 6f in a Group 3. Biggest danger comes in the shape of Libery Beach who has won 4 times from 5 starts for trainer J Quinn.

Win Advised

.

2.25 -Selection – Mums Tipple 6-1 -Won on debut at Ascot over 6f on the 26th July when beating Molatham by a neck. Although this race looks harder on paper Mums Tipple should get involved again here although will need to finish better than last time out when seemed to run flat in closing stages allowing the horse in 2nd to close the gap.

Win Advised

4.50 -Selection – Salayel 4-1 -Had some decent form in the book from racing at Jebel Ali and Meydan winning and placing twice. Made UK racecourse debut at Newmarket over 7f on the 13th July and finished a short head 2nd to California Love. If repeating form shown so far can gain first win on UK soil for new connections.

Win Advised

.

@Glen_Colt (Jamie) –

1:55 – Sky Bet Lowther Stakes (G2) – Selection: Liberty Beach
The impressive Liberty Beach has been a winning machine this season with four wins from five races. And she looks the one to beat on all known form. John Quinn’s Filly really burst onto the scene with a strong win in a listed contest at Sandown, where she quickened up in the style of a very smart horse. A first group success followed at Glorious Goodwood as she beat the boys in the Molecomb Stakes. Always doing her best work in the final 150yds, York should suit her well. The faster they go the better.

2:25 – Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sales – Selection: St Ives
Always one of the toughest races to solve at the Ebor Festival. 22 two-year olds charging down York’s knavesmire. Good luck finding the winner! It may well be worth taking a punt on an outsider and at 20/1 at the time of writing this, St Ives has a live chance. William Haggas knowns what it takes to win this race having landed the prize in 2013, 2014 & 2015. The ground has come in his favour after perhaps being blunted by soft conditions in his last race. The booking of James Doyle is an eye catching one and he could well sneak into a place at the very least.

4:15 – Sir Henry Cecil Galtree Stakes – Selection: Frankellina
Since running very well when out of luck in the Epsom Oaks Frankellina has found life tough on the racecourse. The daughter of Frankel was sixth in the Ribblesdale and could only manage third over 1m 2f here the last time. The step back up in trip should help
Frankellina get into a better rhythm as she seemed to find it a shade quick over ten furlongs. She will have to step up on recent form, but she can take this listed prize if she can return to her Epsom Oaks form. Big chance.

Final Word with Rich –

Thanks Guys… Here are my Day Two thoughts….

1.55 Lowther Stakes… Fillies’ Group 2… 2YO Only… 6f..

Liberty Beach…. 4 wins from 5 this season since making debut on May 27th in a Redcar Class 5 5f Novice Stakes, winning by 1/2 a length. A 1/2 length victory at Beverley in a 5f Class 2 Fillies’ Conditions Stakes followed before the only defeat, when 4th by 2 & 1/2 lengths to Raffle Prize in the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes at Ascot before returning to winning ways in the Listed 5f Dragon Stakes at Sandown. Took the step back up in to Group level at Goodwood to beat the colts in the Molecomb Stakes 5f Group 3 by 1 length. Back in with her own sex now and runs from level weights. Up a furlong in trip but that is no issue…..
DANGER…. Under the Stars… 2 from 2 since making a winning race course debut in a Class 5 6f Novice Stakes before stepping up to Group company at Ascot to land the Group 3 6f Princess Margaret Stakes by 1/2 a length on July 27th….

3.35 Yorkshire Oaks… Fillies’ & Mares’ Group 1…. 1m 3f 188yds…

Enable…. The double Arc & Breeders Cup Turf winner, now aged 5 is 2 from 2 this season having won the Eclipse at Sandown on season return when beating Magical by 3/4’s of a length, the same distance as the Breeders Cup before making it 2 from 2 when taking a stunning battle with Crystal Ocean in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes by a neck at Ascot. Now looking for her 12th win on the bounce having been unbeaten since April 21st in a Class 3 1m 2f Newbury Conditions Stakes… This is the last time Enable will grace a UK Race course….
Magical has been behind Enable on the last 3 times they have met & I cannot see it changing today….

4.15 Sir Henry Cecil Galtres Stakes… Fillies’ & Mares’ Listed… 1m 3f 188yds….

Bella Vita… Had 2 runs over 7f last season finishing 2nd on debut & 6th. Made seasonal return in May when stepped up in trip to 1m 2f when winning a Class 5 Maiden at Lingfield. Landed 4 Class 4 Handicaps on the bounce, the last of the 4 was over 1m 4f at Ascot on July 12th, when winning by 1 & 1/2 lengths from Birch Grove, who has since won a French Listed race . Bella Vita was stepped up in to Listed company on August 3rd, when finishing runner up to Love So Deep in the Chalice Stakes by 2 lengths, the winner has since finished runner up to Dame Malliot on Sunday in the Prix De Promone at Deauville….

That is everything for you today folks… Thanks for popping by and for the continued support…

York – Day One

Hello and welcome to arseonlineracing. This is a 100% independent racing website with NO affiliate links. It is curated by 2 racing enthusiasts from either end of the British Isles, Charlie hails from Glasgow while Rich is from the Isle of Wight… Miles apart but united by the sport of kings…

Thanks for joining us on day one of the York Ebor festival. This week features some top class racing with the best horses going head to head on the Knavesmire and the highlight of day one is the Group 1 Juddmonte International…

img_20190820_2001378539155212637904401.jpg

We are delighted to have @Glen_Colt with us again this week, who is fresh from his holiday in the sun, while Charlie and Rich will have the usual stuff. So lets get the party started…..

Charlie –

1.55 – Class 2 Handicap 5f 89y

Selection – Stone Of Destiny 12-1 E/W

Stone Of Destiny done well to beat Final Venture by a nose at Ascot last time out over 5f in a Class 2 Handicap, has only been raised 2lb for that win and should be on the premises again in this similar race, main dangers come in the shape of the current fav Dakota Gold who is available around 5-1 and is chasing a hat-trick and Jabbarockie who hasn’t been out of the first 3 places in last 6 runs and is available at 20-1 at time of writing. UNPLACED

2.25 – Tattersalls Acomb Stakes

Selection – Ethic 8-1 E/W

Ethic was 2nd on debut at Newbury on the 4th of July when beaten 1 and 1/4 lengths by the Richard Hannon trained Man Of The Night over 6f. Was sent to Salisbury for next race over 6f on the 27th July and Ethic won beating Stoweman by 3/4 of a length. Although Ethic only won by a short distance last time at Salisbury, but that was only 2nd race and will definitely know more from that experience and should at least give the favourite Persuasion something to think about if settling down. UNPLACED

4.50 – Skybet Nursery Class 2 Handicap 6f

Selection – Pop Dancer – 8-1 E/W

Pop Dancer – Has only raced 3 times winning 2 and placing 2nd in the other. Was 2nd on racecourse debut at Pontefract on the 19th July when beaten 2 lengths by Tomfre. Returned to Pontefract 9 days later on the 28th July dropping in distance to 5f, Pop Dancer won beating Queen’s Order by 3/4 of a length. Was sent to Musselburgh on the 9th August to race over 5f 1y and won again beating Makyon by 1 and 1/4 lengths. Although this race is a bit deeper Pop Dancer seems to be progressing with each run and should go close again here. UNPLACED

.

@Glen_Colt (Jamie) –

2:25 – Tattersalls Acomb Stakes (G2) – Selection: Vitalogy
A typically competitive Acomb Stakes featuring several first-time winners.
Joseph O’Brien’s Vitalogy is one of those having won at Naas. That day he stayed on strongly in the final 100yds, suggesting that the step up in trip will suit him well at this track. It is quite significant that Joseph has decided to bring Vitalogy over on just his second start, so he must be working well at home. He has as good a chance as any in this race. Finished 4th….

3:35 – Juddmonte International Stakes (G1) – Selection: Japan
Deirdre struck gold at Goodwood for Japan and I fancy the country’s namesake to land the feature race on day one of the Ebor Festival. The Ballydoyle three-year-old has progressed very well since running here in the Dante after a rushed preparation. He was my pick for the Derby and I was delighted to see him run so well in third. After that,
an impressive Royal Ascot success and a first G1 win in the Grand Prix de Paris followed. The vibe around Japan is that we haven’t seen the best of him yet and he could be a horse to follow throughout the autumn. I think he can give the favourite Crystal Ocean a lot to think about. WINNER

4:50 – Sky Bet Nursery – Selection: Malvern
The Richard Hannon team are in great form with their 2yos and his charge Malvern should be in the mix here in a puzzling nursery for the punters. Malvern is 2/2 and looks like a horse to me that will relish racing in a big field. He finished off his race strongly at Brighton last time out. The ground is perfect for him too, but he has been drawn in gate 1 so bear that in mind if you’re having a bet. A bold bid is expected however. UNPLACED

Final Word with Rich –

Thanks guys, lets hope it’s a cracking weeks racing and everyone returns safe… Sunday was a good day for myself at Deauville with 3 winners from 4, so let’s see what we have for day one at  York….

1.55 Handicap… Class 2… 5f 89yds…

Jabbarockie… Form over 5f since season return in April reads 1/2/2/1/3/3/2. A winner last time out in a Musselburgh 5f Class 3 Handicap by 4 & 1/2 lengths on August 2nd. Has been raised 7 for the win but retains the 5Lb claimer. Runs from a career high mark of 94 and takes a step up in class… UNPLACED

3.00 Great Voltigeur… Group 2… 3YO Only… 1m 3f 188yds…

This is a very interesting race with the first 2 home in the Gordon Stakes at Goodwood against the unbeaten runner, who is stepping up in class….
Logician… Unbeaten in 3 runs, 2 of them in Class 4 company over 1m 2f and made it 3 from 3 career runs when stepping up in trip to land a Newbury 1m 4f Class 3 Handicap by 4 & 1/2 lengths from an opening handicap mark of 90. The 3rd from that race has since won twice and has been re-assed with a new mark of 101. This is a big step up in class but looks the real deal… WINNER
The DANGERS will come from Nagla Road & Constantinople, who were separated by a head at Goodwood in the Group 3 Gordon Stakes and with 6th winning the Group 3 Geoffery Freer Stakes at Newbury on Saturday….

3.35 International Stakes… Group 1…. 1m 2f 56yds…

Crystal Ocean….The top rated horse in the world at 127. This season has won the Group 3 Gordon Richards Stakes at Sandown, the Group 3 AL Rayyan at Newbury and the Group 1 Prince of Wales Stakes at Ascot before narrowly going down to Enable(Conceding 3lb to the mare) in a stunning battle in the King George IV and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot on July 27th…. RUNNER UP

That is everything for you today… Thanks for popping by & for your support…

Prix Morny – Deauville

Welcome to arseonlineracing. This is a 100% independent racing website with NO affiliate links. Curated by 2 racing enthusiasts from either end of the British isles, Charlie hails from Glasgow while Rich is from the Isle of Wight… Miles apart but united by the sport of kings…

As we often do on a Sunday, we take a look at the group racing from across the Channel in France, where there is plenty of British & Irish raiders hoping to land a Group 1 or 2 today, the two Group 1 races are the Prix Morny over 6f & Prix Jean Romanet… The first Group race is away at 1.35…

img_20190817_1838065453428226542161435.jpg

1.35 Prix De Pomone… Group 2… 1m 4f 94yds…

South Sea Pearl has won over 1m 6f back in July at Leopardstown in a Listed race but was also beaten by Peach Tree(The other AOB runner) in a Leopardstown Group 3 over the same distance, with Ryan Moore preferring South Sea Pearl and Wayne Lordan on Peach Tree, who is likely to be used as a pacemaker. Both Listen In & Klassique were placed 3rd on their ;ast outings in the Lancashire Oaks(Group 2) at Haydock and Listen In a 1 & 3/4 length 3rd at Clairefontaine in a Listed contest.
Hermaphrodite finished a length ahead of Listen In at Clairefontaine and was also a runner up by the same margin over 1m 2f…
My preference is for DAME MALLIOT, who was a 5 length winner at Newmarket last time out when making turf debut having won on the All Weather and was stepping up from 1m 2f to land the Aphrodite Fillies’ Listed Stakes and 4th has since won a listed race and is aided by Frankie Dettori…

2.50 Prix Morny… Group 1…2YO Only… 6f…

Before I start pulling this race apart, I must say it’s an absolute cracker… The Queen Mary, Coventry & Norfolk Stakes Ascot winners clash along with Goodwood’s Richmond Stakes winner & an unbeaten Group 3 winner from Godolphin…..
Where do I start??
Earthlight is the unbeaten Godolphin runner, who has 2 wins over Course & Distance including landing the Prix De Cabourg on July 28th by 4 lengths having also won here by 3 & 1/2 lengths on July 2nd & that race has worked out well, with the first 4 all winning and runner up taking a listed race…
The joint top rated runners are A’ali & fellow UK raider Golden Horde at 113, who won the Richmond Stakes at Goodwood on August 1st when beating Threat by 3/4’s of a length with Royal Dornoch, who was 3rd that day is the AOB(Aidan O’Brien 2nd string). A’ali won the 5f Norfolk Stakes(G2) at Ascot by a neck on June 20th before heading here in the Prix Robert Papin(G2) over 5 & 1/2f and winning  by 3/4’s of length.
Arizona is the other Aidan O’Brien runner & the choice of Ryan Moore. The 6f Coventry Stakes winner beat Threat by 1/2 a length on June 18th having won a Curragh Maiden at the second attempt, it is worth noting that Ryan Moore is currently having a cold spell, with 2 wins in his last 24 rides to date…
Raffle Prize is rated 111 and has 3 wins from 4 runs this season having won a pair of Group 2 and a Class 2 Maiden. The Queen Mary(G2) winner landed the odds by a head at Ascot on June 19th and followed that up when turning the form around with Daahyeh(Who beat him on race course debut by 1 & 3/4 lengths) winning by the same margin 1 & 3/4 ‘s of a length when taking the 6f Duchess of Cambridge with Frankie Dettori on board, (who keeps the ride today) on July 12th at Newmarket and is 2 from 3 over 6f on board along with Arizona, A’ali is up in trip by 1/2 a furlong & Earthlight is 3 from 3 over 6f…..
Who wins? I think Raffle Prize WINS with A’ali & Earthlight filling the places!

img_20190817_1837446275507435133808358.jpg

3.25 Prix Jean Romanet… Group 1… 1m 2f….

Musis Amica has been a runner up in 3 of the last 4 starts since winning the Group 3 La Grotte in April 2018. Beaten on season return in a 1m 2f Listed race before another runner up spot by 1/2 a length last time out over C&D in another Listed race and has place claims as does With You, another runner up last time out here on July 28th when 1/2 a length behind Laurens in the 1m Prix Rothschild. I Can Fly has finished 3rd on the last 3 starts and was a 1 & 3/4 lengths behind Too Darn Hot in the 1m Sussex Stakes G1 at Goodwood on July 31st & now steps up in trip… My preference is for CORONET, who looked back to her best when landing the Group 1 1m 2f  Grand Prix De Saint-Cloud..

4.00 Prix Kergorlay… Group 2… 1m 7f…

Marmelo… The runner up in this last season to Holdthasigreen will be looking for compensation for the short head defeat to The Way to Paris in the Maurice De Nieuil 1m 6f on July 14t at Longchamp….

The weekend before York

Hello and welcome to arseonlineracing. This website is  100% independent & has NO affiliate links., curated by 2 racing enthusiasts from either end of the British Isles with Charlie hailing from Glasgow & Rich from the Isle of Wight, although miles apart they are united by the sport of kings….

Having taken a couple of weeks away after Goodwood, we are raring to go and this is the prelude for the York Ebor festival with some fantastic racing to look forward to during the coming week.

Many things have been said & written especially on twitter this week, some was out of order and although we may disagree with someone’s opinion the abuse was bang out of order, by all means make your point but you do not have to resort to personal abuse of any kind. All you have to do is simply block or unfollow, it really is that simple!

Right now that is out the way, we shall get down to the business of racing….

Mr Charlie will have his Saturday Selections while Master Rich will have the Final Word!

Charlie –

Ripon – 2.05 – Flying Pursuit 8-1 -Although without a win since 28th July last year at York, when beating Golden Appolo by a neck over 6f with Growl back in 4th. Flying Pursuit has ran some decent races without winning this year most notable was when finishing 4th behind Firmament at York on the 15th June this year over 7f. Flying Pursuit has slipped down the ratings and is now on a very handy mark and with ground conditions in his favour today could easily make a mockery of that 8-1 price, if repeating the form shown on previous run at York 4 starts back should be enough to take the spoils today.

Win Advised

.

Doncaster 2.50 – Presedential 11-2 -Although Presedential is without a win since 3rd November last year when beating London by 2 and 1/4 lengths at Newmarket over 7f. Had hinted of a return to form at Ayr 2 starts back when finishing a 3/4 of a length 2nd behind Start Time over 7f and 50y. Was a tad disappointing last time out at Redcar when finishing 9th behind winner Wahoo over 7f. If repeating form shown at Ayr 2 starts back that could be enough to get involved here.

Win Advised

.

Newbury – 4.45 – Ocala 5-1 – Has won 2 times from last 4 starts, with the wins coming at Chepstow over 1m and 14y on the 23rd May when beating Ragstone View by 2 lengths. Won again on the 28th June at Chester over 1m 2f and 70y when beating Nearooz by a 1/2 length. Was 6th last time out at Goodwood but was only beaten about 4 lengths by winner Mannaal. With a repeat of the form shown so far Ocala looks overpriced at 5-1 and is my final win selection for today.

Win Advised

.

Well that’s my selections for todays racing, good luck if following and please remember to keep stakes small so it doesn’t hurt your pocket, I will now hand you over to Master Rich for The Final Word.

Final Word with Rich –

Thanks Charlie, it’s good to be back & let’s hope it’s a good weekend leading into York…

I have 3 from Newbury, where the going is Soft…..

1.50 Denford Listed Stakes.. Class 1… 2YO Only… 7f….

Sun Power… Finished a neck runner up last time out in the Pat Eddery Listed Stakes at Ascot on July 27th, 2 & 1/2 lengths clear of the field and 4th has since won a Class 2…

2.25 Geoffrey Freer Stakes… Group 3… 1m 5f 61Yds…

Sextant…. 3 wins from 4 runs this season, winning the last 2 over 1m 4f in Class 2 company and now steps up to Group level and a slight rise in trip. Landed a Class 2 Ascot 1m 4f Handicap last time out on July 26th by 1 & 3/4 lengths…

3.35 Hungerford Stakes…. Group 2… 7f…

Safe Voyage…. 3 wins from 4 runs this season having won in a Class 2 Handicap on season return in April before taking the Listed Spring Trophy in May. Made it 3 from 3 when landing the Group 3 John of Gaunt Stakes in June. All 3 wins at Haydock. Finished 3rd by 1 & 1/2 length when running in the Group 2 7f Minstrel Stakes at the Curragh on July 20th to Romanised, who has since won a Group 1 in France & now has a chance to turn round the form with Hey Garman, who was 2nd at the Curragh and is in the field today. Has a fine record on soft/good to soft & heavy ground with 5 wins from 6 runs in these conditions….

That is everything for you today folks, we hope to have @Glen_Colt back from Holiday in time for York and we have commissioned Mr Chris Price to write some pieces ahead of the National Hunt season….

No complaints from us here.. Just solid research!

Last blog of the week

Welcome to arseonlineracing. A 100% independent racing website with NO affiliate links. This website is curated by 2 racing enthusiasts from either end of the British Isles, Charlie hails from Glasgow while Rich is from the Isle of Wight… Miles apart but united by the sport of kings…..

This is our last blog post of the week with Charlie away on Saturday & Rich is having a weekend with his family, so we would like to take this chance to say a Big Thanks to Jamie(@Glen_Colt) for his work this week and we look forward to having him back on site very soon…
It was a poor day from the 3 of us yesterday & we will be looking to do a lot better today… No recap today as it was too bad to be true!

As with all blogs this week, Charlie will lead the way with Jamie’s Galway thoughts the meat in the Goodwood sandwich with Rich having the final word…

Charlie –

Goodwood

2.25 – Biometric -Has raced 4 times winning 3 and placing 2nd in the other. The wins came at Salisbury on debut over 7f when seeing off Songkran by a head. Next win came at Newbury when seeing off Red Armada by a head over 7f. Finished 2nd on next start at Lingfield when dropping in distance to 6f losing by 3/4 of a length to Nahaarr. Latest win came at Ascot over 1m when beating Turgenev by 1 and 1/4 lengths. Looks to be progressing and may have more to come, although this race is a bit deeper than previous races, if Biometric turns up in same mood could be in the mix again here for the Beckett yard and at 6-1 is a win selection.

Win Advised

.

3.35 – El Astronaute – Has been in fantastic form since June winning twice and placing 2nd once from last 3 starts. The Wins came at Cork over 5f when beating Smash Williams by 3/4 of length. Next win came at the Curragh over 5f when beating Manshood by 1 length. Was returned to the Curragh for latest race when finishing 2nd to Soffia who won by 3 and 1/2 lengths. Although Battash looks the likely winner here El Astronaute is 10-1 and is worth an eachway play and should chase Battash home.

Eachway Advised

.

4.10 – Praxeology -Has only raced 4 times winning twice and finishing 2nd and 3rd in the other 2 races. Was 2nd on racecourse debut at Chelmsford over 5f when losing by a neck to Lambeth Walk. Was then sent to Ascot to race over 5f and finished a 3 and 1/2 length 3rd behind Expressionist. Next race was at Ripon and saw Praxeology making the step up in trip to 6f a winning one by beating Just Jean by 5 lengths. Latest victory came at Salisbury when beating Wightman by 2 lengths over 6f on the 16th June. Looks to be progressing nicely over 6f and another bold show looks likely here for the inform Johnson yard and is currently available at 3-1 with most firms.

Jamie(@Glen_Colt) – Galway

5:45 – Irish EBF Median Auction Maiden – Selection: Alpine Star

The selection here finished a fine third on debut in one of the hottest Fillies Maidens of the Irish flat season so far. Jessica Harrington’s Filly was only beaten 1 ¾ lengths by subsequent Group winner Love. Tuesday’s Maiden winner Petit Mustique was just behind her in fourth. That form sees her set the standard for what on paper looks
another hot maiden. If she has progressed from that Leopardstown race, then she has a great chance of being the latest 2yo winner from the red-hot Harrington stable.

6:15 – Guinness Galway Blazer Handicap Chase – Selection: Mindsmadeup (e/w advised)

Matthew J Smith’s horse has been running very well of late, including a wide margin success at Downpatrick in June. He ran even better behind Ravenhill at Limerick, beaten 1 ¾ lengths. Ravenhill went onto run into a good fifth in the Galway Plate on Wednesday not beaten all that far. If he could replicate that performance at Limerick then Mindsmadeup will be in the mix for sure, he also looks very well handicapped still. It’s a tough race though so I would advise an e/w investment here if you are planning to bet on this race.

6:50 – Guinness Handicap (3yo+) – Selection: King’s Vow

The O’Brien’s holds a strong hand in this race with Il Paradiso well fancied for Aidan. However, I think Joseph O’Brien could have the dark horse in this race. King’s Vow, a Son of the mighty Frankel has been improving with every race this campaign and looks the sort to appreciate running into a fast pace, which he should get here. He was just touched off in the Ulster Derby last time by a good sort in Dadoozdart. Everything looks set for a big run again and he shouldn’t be far away.

Final Word with Rich –

Thanks Guys, although its been a nice week it will also be nice to have a break & come back refreshed heading towards the tail end of the flat season….

Goodwood…. Good….

1.50 Oak Tree Stakes… Fillies & Mares’ Group 3…. 7f…

Pretty Baby….Won this race last season by a neck before landing the Chartwell Fillies Group 3 at Lingfield on season return in May. Stepped up in trip in the 1m Duke of Cambridge finishing a disappointing 13th. Now dropped back in trip and looking to retain the crown…

2.25 Thoroughbred Stakes… Group 3… 3YO Only… 1m…

Art Du Val…. 3 wins & 1 place form 4 runs. Began the season in February when taking a Meydan 1m 1f Conditions Stakes by 4 lengths before making it 2 from 2 in 2019 when landing a Saint Cloud Listed race by 3/4’s of a length on June 30th….

3.35 King George Stakes… Group 2…. 5f….

Battaash…. Has won this race for the past 2 seasons & I cannot see past him making it 3 in a row. Won the Temple Stakes(G2) at Haydock on seasonal return before finishing a 1 & 1/4 length runner up in the Kings Stand at Ascot to recently retired Blue Point….

4.40 Queens Plate Stakes… Group 3… 1m 4f…

Mirage Dancer... Another who is looking to retain the race they won last season. A runner up last time out to Communique in the Group 2 Prince of Wales’ Stakjes at Newmarket having finished a 1 & 1/4 length 3rd to Defoe in the Hardwicke Group 2 at Ascot. Won a Listed race over C&D on season return to make it 3 wins over C&D from 3 runs….

That is everything for you today & indeed for the week from us … Thanks for popping by & for your support….

Goodwood

2.25 Threat -Won with some authority on racecourse debut at Newmarket over 5f on the 5th May beating Electrical Storm by 2 and 1/4 lengths, was then sent to Ascot for next race stepping up in distance to 6f and went down by 1/2 length defeat to Arizona. Shouldhave learned plenty from that race at Ascot and is taken to go one better today.

Win Advised

.

.

4.10 Fred -Went off favourite for racecourse debut at Ayr over 6f and finished last beaten some 20+ lengths by Lord Of The Lodge. Next race saw Fred sent to Leicester and Fred won beating Law of Peace by a nose. More recently was sent to Haydock and raced over 6f 212y and Fred won again beating He’s A Keeper by a head. If using same tactics as last two races Fred could easily go in again here and make the distance travelled worthwhile for M Johnson.

Win Advised

.

4.45 Salsa -I don’t normally put up a lot of debutant runners as most need at least 2 or 3 starts before you can gauge how they will progress, however it’s not often that an offspring from Galileo grabs my attention but this one did hence me including it today.

2019-08-01-09-16-125417530556466041283.jpg

As you can see Salsa has a nice pedigree and although A O’brien hasn’t had many 2yr old winners this year so far, this one could change that today.

Jamie(@Glen_Colt) from Galway –

2:35 – Guinness Novices Chase – Selection: Robin De Carlow
A hot little Grade 3 Novice chase is in store here. Willie Mullins runs four and Robin De Carlow looks the pick of them to my eye. Although there probably isn’t a whole lot between them. Robin De Carlow jumped very well when winning at Killarney a fortnight ago, she won very easily. The Supreme Racing Club owned mare also won previously at Kilbeggan. Robin De Carlow is race fit and in excellent form, plus she gets the mares weight allowance. Big chance.

3:45 – Guinness Corrib Fillies Stakes – Selection: Titanium Sky
Dermot Weld likes to target this listed contest with a nice Filly and Titanium Sky is the chosen one this year. The Daughter of Dark Angel finished close behind some nice Fillies in two group races at the Curragh & Leopardstown during the spring. The step down to seven furlongs should be okay and she has been freshened up for this
contest. A bold bid is expected under top young jockey Oisin Orr.

4:55 – Guinness Galway Hurdle – Selection: Band of Outlaws
Cheltenham Festival winner Band of Outlaws looks the one to beat in the Galway Festival. Joseph O’Brien’s charge stormed up the famous hill to win the Martin Pipe Juvenile Hurdle in taking fashion. I believe that the efforts of his Cheltenham win left their mark and he ran flat at Aintree in a Grade 1. A big field handicap with plenty of pace on is what he ideally wants, he just needs a bit of luck. His prep for this race was a good neck second to Thomas Hobson at Tipperary. He is a worthy favourite in my book.

Final Word with Rich –

Thanks guys… Tomorrow will be my last day this week as I am away for the weekend. 2 winners & 2nd from this column yesterday adds to my 2 winners on Tuesday, so lets hope for more of the same today…

Goodwood…. Good….

2.25 Richmond Stakes… Group 3… 2YO Only… 6f…

Threat…. 2 & 1/4 winner on race course debut in a Newmarket 5f Class 3 Miaden on May 5th. Stepped up to 6f &in grade when running a 1/2 length runner up in the Group 2 6f Coventry Stakes, only headed in the final furlong by Arizona…..

3.00 Gordon Stakes… Group 3… 3YO Only… 1m 4f…

Constantinople…. Winner of the Curragh Group 3 1m 2f Gallinule Stakes on May 24th before heading to Ascot, when running the Class 2 King George V Handicap Stakes on June 20th finishing runner up by a neck. Has to give 3Lb to the field for G3 win along with fellow G3 winner Spanish Mission, who won the Bahrain Trophy at Sandown(July 11th, my danger for the race). The pair share Top Rating with Jalmoud, who was a 1 & 1/4 length 3rd to Japan in the Group 1 Grand Prix De Paris at Longchamp on July 14th….

3.35 Nassau Stakes… Fillies & Mares’ Group 1…. 1m 2f….

Maqsad…. Finished 10 lengths behind Anapurna in the 1m 4f Oaks at Epsom having won the Class 1 Listed Pretty Polly Stakes  by 5 lengths on May 8th having stepped up from 1m having beaten Twist & Shake in a maiden on season return. The return to this distance & not having run since May 31st is a big plus…
The DANGERS are clear to see…with Top rated Hermosa, who is the Double 1,000 Guineas winner and form in last 6 runs reads 1/2/2/1/1/2 and now steps up in trip from 1m, while Frankie has won the Group 1 races on the opening 2 days so far & rides Medaayih, who is fresh from Group 2 success in France when landing the Malleret at St-Cloud  on June 30th & Rawdaa, who has been a runner up by a neck on her last 2 starts….

That is everything for you today folks.. Thanks for popping by & for your continued support…
