Having finished a 10 length 4th on debut at Saint-Cloud(March 25th) over 1m 2f in a maiden, given an easy time behind winner Sibila Spain, who won again next time out at Lyon.
Headed to Fontainebleau on April 16th in a 1m 3f maiden for 3 year olds, winning by 3/4’s of a length from Ricla, who along with 3rd place Loire have both win next time out… UNPLACED

2.50 Poule D’Essai Des Poulains – 3yo Colts Only – Group 1 – 1m….

With Dewhurst winner St Mark’s Basilica(Top Rated 120) not having a run since last October & despite finishing 8 & 3/4 lengths behind SMB in the Dewhurst i am going with the 2000 Guineas winner…
Poetic Flare(Dawn Approach X Maria Lee colt) to do the UK & French Guineas double>
The Jim Bolger colt has won 4 from 5 starts & his only blot was in the Dewhurst since winning a 5f Naas Maiden last March. He landed the Group 3 Killavallan Stakes a week before the Dewhurst.
Made seasonal return on April 11th in the Listed Irish 2000 Guineas Trial when beating Aussie Ace before landing the BIG race by a short head at Newmarket on May 1st from Master of the Seas on his first try over 1m…UNPLACED
The DANGERS to look out for as well as St Mark’s Basiliaca is Sealiway, who won the 7f Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at this course last October but failed to fire in the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf 1m before returning over C&D on April 18th in the Group 3 Prix De Fountainebleu, finishing a 1/2 length runner up …
SMB WINS!

Longchamp

2.25 Poule D’Essai Pouliches Fillies’ Stakes – 3yo Only – Group 1 – 1m….
Just like the previous race, i cannot see past the 1000 Guineas winner
Mother Earth – Zoffany X Many Colurs filly.
The seasoned Group run filly has finished 2nd & 3rd in Group 1 company last season prior to landing the BIG race at Newmarket on May 2nd, which was her 3rd start over 1m, winning from Saffron Beach by 1 length.
She finished runner up in the Grade 1 Breeders Cup Fillies’ Juvenile 1m Turf to Aunt Pearl back in November… 2nd
The DANGERS could come from unbeaten Philomere (Dubawi X Prudenzia), who won a maiden over C&D on race course debut last September before landing the 1m Group 3 Penelope Stakes at Saint-Cloud on April 6th, while Miss Amulet (Sir Prancelot X Shena’s Dream) won a 5f Listed Naas race in early August & the Group 2 Lowther Stakes over 6f at York in the same month, before a runner up spot in the 6f Group 2 Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket in September. She then finished 3rd behind Aunt Pearl & Mother Earth on her first try at 1m in the Breeders Cup… MA- NR Philomere -UNPLACED

He was dropped back to 5f to win a Cork handicap by 3/4’s of a length on April 3rd & last time out on April 25th finished runner up in a 5 & 1/2f Listed race to Measure of Magic, who has since won another Listed race….
WINNER

2:50 – Poule d’Essai des Poulains – Selection: Sealiway

The French 2000 Guineas looks a string contest this year with Newmarket victor Poetic Flare bidding for a famous double. However, I like one at a more attractive price with decent course form. Sealiway was the best 2yo Colt in France last year as proved by his Prix Jean Luc Lagadere romp on Arc day. The form of that race might not be the strongest but it was the manner of his 8 length demolition that caught my eye. Sealiway relishes soft or heavy going and with rain in the Paris area and hopefully falling on Longchamp, he can power through the soft conditions again. On his first run in 2021 he ran in the Prix Fontainbleu and ran well, a good pipe opener to finish second. He comes here fresh and unlike the favourite didn’t have a hard race last time out. UNPLACED

3:25 – Poule d’Essai des Pouliches – Selection: Mother Earth

Mother Earth produced a career best performance to win the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket and I think she can follow up in the French version today. It was a sterling effort and the sign of a Filly with more to come, especially as that was her first race this campaign. Mother Earth is a battle hardened horse having her tenth race today. The daughter of Zoffany is pretty ground versatile, having won a G3 on yielding to soft last summer and running a cracker in the Fillies Mile when a close third on soft ground. She brings the best form into this race and I am struggling to see any of the home team that I think could beat her. Perhaps Tiger Tanaka could be worth an each way play. 2nd

Naas –

3:40 – Sole Power Sprint Stakes – Logo Hunter

An open looking listed heat for the sprinters with the field at 7/2. Off the lowest weight I can see Logo Hunter running a big race after a couple of very good performances so far this season. His form figures of 1212 stack up well, the pick of those races was arguably last time out at Naas when he took his form to a new level with a good second in a listed contest at Navan behind Measure of Magic. It was the best run of his career so far and it appears that Logo Hunter is on an upward curve, he has only had the 6 races so far. Good chance off bottom weight with Heffernan booked being another positive. The dangers are Indigo Balance & Urban Beat in my opinion. WINNER

That is everything for you today folks, thanks for your support & for popping by. We really appreciate your support. We will see you at 7pm for the BIG Interview!

Saturday brings yet more fantastic racing, with the Group 1 Lockinge at Newbury the highlight of the days racing, along with a nice card from Newmarket while Sunday brings Listed & Group 3 action from Naas along with the French Guineas at Longchamp!

All 4 of us are on duty today

The going at Newbury & Newmarket is … Good to Soft

Charlie –

Newbury 1.50 Carnarvon Stakes (Listed) over 6f

Selection – Creative Force – 3 year old Gelding out of Dubawi and Choose Me, has had 4 career starts winning 3 times. All wins have came at Newmarket with the only defeat coming at Ascot. The wins began on the 4th June over 6f when beating Imperial Force by 1 and 1/4 lengths with Saeiqa a further 1 and 1/4 length behind in 3rd. Finished a well beaten 10th of 15 at Ascot on the 20th June 2020. Returned to Newmarket on the 15th of April this year and won again, beating Significantly by 1 and 3/4 lengths with Jumby a further length behind in 3rd. More recently won on the 1st May when beating Perotto by 1 length with Bickerstaffe a further length behind in 3rd that was over 6f. If showing the same attitude today should take this race at the expense of main threat Tactical. WINNER

.

Thirsk3.55 Skybet Request A Bet Handicap Over 6f

Selection – Commanche Falls – 4 year Old Gelding out of Lethal Force and Joyeaux, has had 11 career starts winning 5 times. The wins have came at Thirsk twice, Haydock twice and once at Ayr. Won on debut at Thirsk on the 11th June 2019 when beating Clay Regazzoni by 1/2 a length with Mischief Star a further 1 and 1/2 lengths behind in 3rd over 6f. Lost next 3 starts of 2019 at Thirsk, Ayr and Newmarket retrospectively. Made seasonal return at Thirsk on the 29th June 2020 and won over 6f when beating Iva Reflection by 3/4 of a length with Rebel Soldier Boy a further length and 1/2 behind in 3rd. Lost next 2 races at York and Catterick before getting back to winning ways at Haydock over 6f on the 10th September when beating Dream Together by 1 and 1/2 lengths with Ugo Gregory a neck behind in 3rd. Returned to Haydock on the 26th September and won again beating Music Society by a length with Beyond Equal a nose behind in 3rd over 6f. Lost again on next start at Haydock on the 16th October before making a winning reappearance on 1st start of 2021 at Ayr on the 26th April when beating Bielsa by 2 and 1/2 lengths with George Bowen a further 1/2 length behind in 3rd. Has been in decent form although has had a couple of poor results in between victories previously. If showing same attitude as when winning last time out can go in again here in a very open looking race, biggest threat to the selection comes in the shape of Cold Stare who likes a bit of cut in the ground although hasn’t won since 29th August 2020 when winning at Goodwood when beating Magical Wish by a head on soft ground. UNPLACED

.Chris –

Newbury

1.50pm BetVictor Carnarvon Stakes

Tactical was a classy juvenile in the first half of last season before losing his way somewhat, however he returned with a win in the Free Handicap over 7f last month and holds several entries over different trips going forward. A test at 6f should hold no fears and he handled softer ground when winning the July Stakes. Despite the 3lb penalty he is clear on ratings and should go well today for a yard that can do little wrong at the moment. UNPLACED

3.00pm BetVictor London Gold Cup Handicap

Tamborrada went in the tracker after a comfortable success at Lingfield in January on his second start. He followed up with a gutsy win at Doncaster last time out and a mark of 99 could still leave him with room to manoeuvre. Soft ground poses a question but there are plenty of relations on the Dam’s side that indicate it will be fine. It’s as competitive as usual but this son of Dubawi can run well here. UNPLACED

Newmarket

4.25pm Betway Fillies Novice Stakes

Mellow Magic has run with credit on both starts to date, finishing placed on each occasion. She still looks a work in progress but it shouldn’t be long before breaking her maiden tag over this trip. Being a daughter of Nathaniel softer ground shouldn’t hinder her chances and may well make it third time lucky this afternoon for an in-form yard. 2nd

Jamie –

Newbury –

3.35 – Lockinge Stakes – Selection: Safe Voyage

The return of the Lockinge lost last year to the Covid-19 pandemic sees Europe’s top miler Palace Pier go in search of a third top level success, it looks his race to lose really so I am searching for some each way potential. At around 14-1 Safe Voyage makes plenty of appeal. John Quinn’s charge enjoyed a Stellar campaign in 2020 with 3 Wins from 7 races, including two 7f Group 3 victories at York and Leopardstown’s over quality opposition. He has that 7f pace and if he can get a tow into the race then he could pick up the pieces late on. Safe Voyage has a decent record on his seasonal bows with three wins and a second. I like his claims on this sound surface. UNPLACED

Each way advised.

Naas –

4:15 – Yeats Stakes (Listed) – Selection: Wordsworth

This looks an ideal opportunity for Wordsworth to continue his progression and register his first success at Stakes level. Aidan O’Brien’s Galileo Colt, a full brother to 2018 St Leger hero Kew Gardens has some smart form in the book, including a debut 2nd last August behind High Definition, highly fancied for the Derby of course. On his seasonal bow Wordsworth shed his Maiden tag in good style over 1m 2f. The second and third have enhanced the form since. The step up in trip to 1m 5f should bring about further improvement and Seamie Heffernan has chosen him over stablemate Sir Lucan. The main danger could well be Party House from the Ger Lyons team. 2nd

Doncaster –

7:05 – Premier Fillies Handicap – Selection: Roseabad

A trappy Fillies Handicap over 1m 2f. It could be worth taking a punt on Mark Johnston’s Roseabad who has bits and pieces of good form to be in the mix here. The daughter of Awtaad has had four runs so far winning her Maiden at Bath last September. Since then form figures of 547 have followed with that 7th being in the Newmarket race won impressively by Mohaafeth, she was denied a clear run at a crucial stage too. Roseabad should improve for that outing and this is a lesser race. Top apprentice Oli Stammers takes 5lb off and at a decent price (5/1 at time of writing) I am anticipating a big run.

Rich –

Newbury..
1.50 Carnarvon Stakes – Listed – 3yo Only – 6f…
Creative Force – Dubawi X Choose Me gelding.

Debut winner over 6f in early June 2020 at Newmarket but failed to land a blow in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at ascot 16 days later.
Made seasonal return at Newmarket, in a Class 2 6f Handicap making it 2 wins from 3 starts beating Significantly, with 4th Rohaan since landing the Group 3 Pavilion Stakes before making it 3 wins from 4 starts, again at Newmarket on May 1st, when beating Perotto… WINNER

3.00 London Gold Cup Handicap – Class 2 – 3yo Only – 1m 2f…
King Frankel – Frankel X You’ll be Mine colt.

Took a while to lose his maiden tag, having finished runner up on 3 of his first 4 starts prior to his win on April 28th over 1m 2f at Pontefract in a 3 horse race by 32 lengths in a Class 5 Maiden. Hopefully this will be the making of him & his mark of 82 could under estimate his potential… Runner Up

3.35 Lockinge Stakes – Group 1 – 4yo Plus – 1m….
Palace Pier is 4/6 ON at the time of writing & with 1 defeat to The Revenant to his name, the TOP RATED 125 horse is likely to win, baring a no show, so i will go with my TRACKER – Top Rank – Dark Angel X Countess Ferrama 5yo horse.
He landed the Group 3 Superior Miles Stakes last year from My Oberon in September & his last start of 2020, was probably a race to far in the Group 2 Shadwell Stakes, when 6 of 6 & 5 & 1/2 lengths behind Kameko, the only blot on a fine season.
Started 2021 with a 1 length Listed win, over 1m at Doncaster from What’s the Story on March 27th & deserves a try at the top table – Each Way3rd

Newmarket…
3,15 Handicap – Class 2 – 3yo Only – 6f…
Barney’s Bay – Cable Bay X Fisadora gelding.

2 runs as a 2yo both over 7f which was a debut 2nd & 4th place on 2nd start.
Dropped to 6f on season return at Pontefract in a Class 5 Novice Stakes on April 6th, finishing a 5 & 1/2 length runner up from an opening mark of 74. Ran 2 weeks later at Southwell(All Weather) from a mark of 75, winning by 2 lengths in a Class 5 maiden & went up to 78 when running last time out in a 6f Class 4 handicap at Thirsk, May 8th, when beating Blowing Wind by 2 & 1/2 lengths. Runs from a mark of 87…. UNPLACED

York Day 3

Hello & Welcome to Arseonlineracing… The 100% Independent racing website with NO affiliate links…

AS with Tuesday, it was only a couple of places from us but we are determined to hit the board before we get to the weekend & the Lockinge!
In a change to our line up, Charlie is having YET MORE issues with his bookie, William Hill & despite several attempts to sort the situation, they have failed to sort anything except making the situation worse & I quote Charlie ” about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike” So Rich has come in with Chris….

The going at York is…. Good

Chris –

1.40pm British EBF Marygate Fillies Stakes

Nymphadora is one of the few runners here yet to break her maiden tag, however she ran with credit before fading on debut at Newmarket, finishing 6th. The form of that race is already stacking up, with 4 of those who finished above her running well next time out. I can see her building on that here for a yard who continue to flourish this term; she makes plenty of appeal each-way, especially with some bookies paying 4 places. WINNER

2.10pm Oaks Farm Stables Fillies Stakes

I think Snow Lantern could be very smart, but I was impressed with Creative Flair at Ascot last month, sticking to her task well win a Conditions race over this trip. These are deeper waters today, but she looks a solid each-way bet at the current prices with potentially more to come over a mile. 2nd

3.10 Matchbook Yorkshire Cup Stakes

A small but competitive field here and Nayef Road has been largely consistent over staying tests, very rarely running a bad race. My selection finished in front of Santiago at Goodwood last term giving him over a stone, while he was a head behind Sir Ron Priestley in the 2019 St Leger and he receives 3lbs from the favourite today. A drop back to 14f asks a question, but given this Galileo colt is usually fairly keen in his races, I don’t see a problem. I’m expecting Nayef Road to be running on nicely at the finish to land this Group 2. UNPLACED

Rich –

2.10 Oak Farm Stables Fillies’ Stakes – Listed – 3yo Only – 7f 192yds..
Snow Lantern – Frankel X Sky Lantern filly.

1 & 1/4 length runner up on debut over 7f in a Class 5 Novice Stakes to Zabeel Queen last July.
Made seasonal return at Newbury over 1m in a Class 4 Maiden, finishing 1 & 3/4 lengths ahead of Derab to land the odds.
Big step up in class but she looks the real deal… 3rd

2.40 Handicap – Class 2 – 4yo Plus – 1m2f 56yds…
Fishable – Dutch Art X Sweet Stream 4yo gelding.

2 wins & 4 places from 7 starts last term, with both wins at Ripon over 1m 2f in class 4 handicaps.
Made seasonal return at Ripon in a 1m 2f Class 3 handicap, finishing a 2 & 1/4 length 4th to Zabeel Champion, who has won twice since, while 3rd & 4th have also won…
Placed over C&D too… Each WayUNPLACED

Destination Dante…

Welcome to Arseonlineracing… The 100% Independent racing website with NO affiliate links….

Wasn’t our day yesterday, with Rich the only 1 of us landing any kind of blow, with a 7/1 3rd with Throne Hall, but we have a full team today for the only day this week…
Rich & Jamie are off on Friday while Charlie is away on Saturday, that’s the team news so lets get cracking….

The going at York is…. Good to Soft

Charlie –

1.40 Matchbook Betting Exchange Handicap Class 2 over 5f

Selection – Muscika –

7 year old Gelding out of Kyllachy and Miss Villefranche, has had 49 runs on turf winning 7 times, had 4 starts at this venue last season winning 2 times and finishing 2nd once. The wins came on 26th July when beating Golden Apollo by 3/4 of a length over 6f in a Class 2 Handicap, and on the 9th October Musicka won again beating Mighty Spirit by 1 and 1/4 lengths with Illusionist a neck behind in 3rd over 5f in a Class 3 Handicap. The 2nd place finish was on the 18th July when beaten 3/4 of a length by Tukhoom over 6f in a Class 3 Handicap. If turning up in same mindset shown in those races could get involved although hasn’t won since October last year, biggest dangers come in the shape of Count D’Orsay and Copper Knight who are both trained by Tim Easterby.

.

2.40Matchbook Betting Podcast Hambleton Handicap Class 2 over 7f 192y

Selection – Brunch – 4 year old Gelding out of Harbour Watch and Granola. Has had 10 career starts winning 4 times 2 at Newcastle on the all-weather and 2 at York. The wins at York came on the 26th July last year when beating Jumaira Bay by a short head with La Trinidad a further 2 lengths behind in 3rd over 7f. Won again on the 21st August when beating Hartswood by 1/2 a length with La Trinidad a 1/2 length behind in 3rd over 7f and 192y. Has finished 2nd twice and 3rd once since that win here, most notable was a length and 1/2 2nd on seasonal return behind Haqeeky at Doncaster in the Lincoln on the 27th March. If turning up in same mood as last time out in the Lincoln that should be enough to gain compensation here on a track he likes, biggest danger to the selection comes in the shape of Artistic Riffles who has won last 2 races.

.

Chris –

2.40pm Matchbook Betting Hambleton Handicap

Hartswood has run well at York on several occasions, including when runner-up to Brunch at the Ebor meeting last season. He now enjoys an 8lb swing in the weights for that narrow defeat which entitles him to plenty of respect here. The recent run at Ripon is sure to have blown the cobwebs away and this trainer/jockey combination have already been amongst the winners at this meeting.

3.40pm British Stallion Studs EBF Wentow Stakes

Aklam Express has been largely progressive to date and ran with credit when placed 3 times at Meydan, including in Group 1 company. A repeat of that latest run in the Al Quoz Sprint gives this Mehmas colt leading claims here and he is the pick on ratings. A winner here at York last summer and versatility regarding ground are other positives and he must go close in this company.

Jamie –

2:10 – Middleton Stakes (G2) – Selection: Silence Please (NAP)

Despite only attracting six Fillies this years Middleton Stakes looks an open contest. A couple of Irish raiders, Passion & Silence Please head to the knavesmire with strong claims against the favourite Queen Power. I fancied Silence Please to win a G3 in Ireland last Saturday before she was pulled out due to soft ground and I’m not going to change my mind now. Jessica Harrington’s Filly has some very good form in the book including a second to Melbourne Cup runner up Tiger Moth on Champions Weekend, plus listed win at Naas last June where she had Passion beaten by 2 ¼ lengths. The galloping nature of York will really play to her strengths as she stays this 1m 2f trip very well and it is significant that connections are sending her over to England for her seasonal reappearance. Good chance.

3:40 – Wentwow Stakes (Listed) – Selection: Aklam Express

Nigel Tinkler’s Aklam Express arrives at the Knavesmire in tip top form after a productive spell out in Dubai for the carnival. He ran three times and finished with form figures of 233, the last of those being a cracking effort to finish third in the Al Quoz on Dubai World Cup Night. He’s a really likeable horse and a repeat of that Al Quoz performance could well seal the deal today. He also boasts a win over C&D and won’t mind the ground going a little on the easy side of good. After being freshened up since he is the worthy favourite today. The dangers are the unexposed Dexter Blue and Winter Power, who is rated just 1lb below my selection.

Rich –

2.40 Hambleton Handicap – Class 2 – 4yo Plus – 7f 192yds..
Artistic Rifles – War Command X Chatham Island 5yo gelding.

I noted on April 29th, prior to Artistic Rifles running in a Class 3, 1m Handicap that he was well ahead of the handicapper, having previously beaten a couple of 90+ rated horses & he ran in the race from 88, winning by 4 & 1/2 lengths, which made it 2 wins from 3 starts for his new yard. he runs today off 96 & has already a Class 2, 1m win to his name. I think he still has more to come – BIG CHANCE

3.10 Dante Stakes – Group 2 – 3yo Only – 1m 2f 56yds..
Flying Visit – Pride of Dubai X Fionnuar gelding.

Unlucky last season with plenty of runner up sports & a few 3rd’s to his name before landing the 1m 1f Group 3 Eyrefield Stakes at Leopardstown in October.
He finished a 1 length 2nd to High Definition in a 1m Curragh maiden last August.
Season return on April 11th in the 1m 2f Group 3 Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown & finished a 2 & 1/4 length runner up to Bolshoi Ballet, which is nice form.. EACH WAY

York

Welcome to Arseonlineracing… The 100% Independent website with NO affiliate links…

This week flat racing heads to York for the Dante meeting & with a sprinkle of Newmarket before we head to Newbury for the Lockinge  Stakes & the French Guineas! A busy week…

Between the 4 of us, we will blog for 3 days each with a day off & see whose still standing on Sunday! So to kick us off… Charlie, Jamie & Rich!

The going at York is… Good, Good to Soft in Places

Charlie –

3.10 – Tatersalls Musidora Stakes (Grade 3) for Fillies over 1m 2f 55y

Selection – Noon Star

3 year old filly out of Galileo and Midday, has had 3 career starts so far beginning with a 5 and 1/2 length 3rd place to Lady Hayes when making debut at Salisbury on the 3rd September 2020 over 7f. Was sent to Nottingham for next race on the 14th October 2020 and won when beating Ocean Road by 3 and 1/4 lengths over 1m 75y. Wasn’t seen again until making reappearance on the 25th April this year at Wetherby over 1m 2f, Noon Star won again beating Loving Dream by 2 and 1/2 lengths with Franklet a further 6 lengths adrift in 3rd. If showing same attitude as last 2 runs should take this race at the expense of main threat Teona who is by Sea The Stars and has finished 2nd and 1st in both starts so far although they came at Newcastle on the all-weather.

.

4.15 – British Stalion Studs EBF Novice Stakes over 5f

Selection – Second Wind

2 year old Colt Out of Kodiac and Princess Janie, has had just the one run so far and it was a victorious one at Yarmouth on the 20th April this year, when beating Robasta by 3/4 of a length over 5f and 42y. Carries a penalty for todays race and has Tom Marquand on board this time around and another bold display can’t be ruled out, biggest dangers come in the shape of debutants Project Dante who is out of Showcasing and Jadhlaan who is out of Dark Angel.

.

Jamie –

2:40 – Duke Of York Stakes (G2) – Selection: Oxted

This looks to be a strong renewal of this top 6F sprint. You could make a case for 5 or 6 horses in here who could all win on a going day. With a couple of runs under his belt already I am going to side with July Cup Champion, Oxted. Roger Teal’s charge hasn’t reached that level in three subsequent starts but he looks to still have it in him to take a race of this magnitude. Things didn’t go his way out in Saudi Arabia in February when he didn’t quite take to the dirt. Last time out in the Abernant at Newmarket he ran well but just couldn’t hold off the late charge of Summerghand. I expect Oxted to come on for that run and he can confirm the form with Emaraaty Ana. The ground is okay for Oxted too. Big chance.

3:40 – Sky Bet Handicap – Selection: Huddleton Mac

A nice little 7F Handicap to close out the coverage on ITV Racing today. Several more exposed horses clash with the likes of Huddleton Mac & Rifleman who are much less exposed, I am opting for the former. I base my selection on the fact that this is a big drop in class from G3 level to a Class 3 Handicap. That G3 race he ran in was the Greenham Stakes at Newbury, so he was keeping good company that day. Although he ran too free and was well beaten at the line but connections must think quite a lot of this horse to run him in that kind of race. With that reappearance under his belt he should be hard to beat today on ground he likes. Hopefully he will settle much better today. At a big price Bowman could nick a place.

.

Rich –

2.40 Handicap – Class 2 – 4yp Plus – 1m 3f 188yds…
Throne Hall – Kingman X Appearance 4yo gelding.
5 career runs, 2 wins & 3 places.
Runner up in this class on 3rd start to Ilaraab over 1m 2f at Beverley by a neck on final start of 2020. Started 2021 with a win at Doncaster in a Class 3, 1m 2f Handicap in March before stepping up to this trip at Thirsk, when finishing a 3/4’s of a length runner up on April 17th. All the Best – The Arseonlineracing Team

Simple Saturday

Hello & Welcome to Arseonlineracing… The 100% Independent racing website with NO affiliate links..

It’s a busy Saturday with plenty of racing for you to all enjoy, we have our thoughts on just a FEW of the many races in the UK & Ireland. It’s good to see Haydock having a MIXED racing card, while the Derby & Oaks trials head to Lingfield…

All 4 of us are back today & with all the fun of the fair, we do like a good merry go round!

Haydock Park

Charlie –

Lingfield 3.25 – Isabella Giles (Nb)-3 year old filly out of Belardo and Majestic Dubawi, has had just the 7 career starts winning 4 times and includes 2 group wins, the first of these was at Goodwood on the 29th August 2020 when beating Prado by 7 lengths on soft ground. The 2nd group win came at Newmarket on the 25th September 2020 when beating Nazuna by 2 lengths on Good ground. If reproducing that kind of form today should have too much class for this field and is taken to get another win for connections, biggest danger to the selection comes in the shape of Double or Bubble who has won last 3 races.

.

Haydock 3.45 – Raaeq (Nap)- 4 year Old Colt Out of Kingman and Jamaayel, has had 7 career starts winning 3 times and placing 2nd twice. The wins have came at Newbury on the 21st September 2019 when beating Flagship Glory by 1/2 length over 7f on Good to Firm Ground. Won again at Sandown on the 11th September 2020, when beating Chance by 1 and 3/4 lengths over 1m on Good Ground. Won again on the 2nd October 2020 at Ascot, when beating Breanski by 5 lengths over 7f on Soft Ground. Finished 6th on reappearance at Newbury on the 18th April this year when behind winner Nugget over 1m on Good Ground. Although has only one win on soft, todays conditions should suit as long as it doesn’t turn too heavy, biggest danger comes in the shape of Tomfre who won last 3 runs of 2020.

.

Thirsk 6.05 – Ustath – 5 year old Gelding out of Exceed and Excel and Adorn. Has had 29 career starts winning 5 times and placing 8 times. The wins have came at Wolverhampton, Southwell X 3 and Thirsk. Was a winner here 2 starts back when beating Kolosus by a neck over 6f. Was 3rd at Haydock last time out when finishing behind Camachess and Soul Seeker, although was 3rd in that race was only beaten 1 and 1/2 lengths, runs off same mark today on a track that suits better and another bold display can’t be ruled out, biggest danger to the selection comes in the shape of Highjacked who won over course and distance last time out on the 17th April.

Lingfield

2.15pm Novibet Oaks Fillies Trial

Ocean road made a favourable impression in 2 starts towards the end of the last year. She finished runner-up in a heavy ground Maiden before getting off the mark here on the all-weather last December. On bare form she has more to find today, but she won’t mind the rain and should make up into a nice filly this season.

2.50pm Novibet Derby Trial Stakes

I’ve been wary of the Ballydoyle 3yo colts so far this campaign, but Kyprios won nicely at cork a fortnight ago against a 100-rated rival, also giving the impression that this longer trip will more than suit. He disappointed in the Zetland Stakes last October, but perhaps there were excuses that day as he has won both other starts. Soft ground is no issue and I can see a big run here today.

3.25pm Novibet Chartwell Fillies Stakes

Bounce The Blues was a progressive filly in 2020, winning at Listed level at Naas whilst trained by John Feane, before moving to the current yard and finishing placed in the Group 3 Sceptre Stakes. She wasn’t at his best on reappearance at doncaster, but a mile may have stretched her and both wins have come over this distance on softer ground. With the yard continuing in good form she must be bang there this afternoon.

Jamie –

2:15 – Lingfield – Oaks Trial (Listed) – Selection: Nash Nasha

This looks a pretty open listed contest as Epsom Oaks credentials are put on the line. Ocean Wind and Technique command respect but I think it could be another winner for Godolphin. Nash Nasha has a lot going for her. Winning form on good ground, a stable in form (Charlie Appleby’s horses are 62% for running to form) and she looks certain to stay the trip judging by the way she stayed on over 1m 2f to get up and win at Sandown last time out. This is a big step up from that Novice Stakes level but she is bred in the purple being by Dubawi out of Irish 1000 Guineas winner Just The Judge. Nash Nasha has the sort of profile needed to win this contest and another big run is on the cards.

2:40 – Naas – Blue Wind Stakes (G3) – Selection: Silence Please

A field of eight go to post for this Group 3 for the Fillies & Mares. If Silence Please is anywhere near her best then she should win this and that is good enough for me. Jessica Harrington’s 4YO has some smart form in the book including a listed win over this 1m 2f at Naas last June and a good second at Leopardstown on Champions Weekend behind Melbourne Cup runner up Tiger Moth. The forecast rain might be a slight concern but she appears to cope with soft ground okay judging by a third behind Irish Oaks winner Even So last year. With just six runs under her belt there could be a good deal of improvement left in her. The 3YO brigade look the danger receiving a lot of weight but they will have to step up a lot to beat Silence Please.
NON RUNNER

3:40 – Ascot – Victoria Cup (Heritage Handicap) – Selection: Motakhayyel

This is about a tricky Handicap puzzle as they come. I am hoping that a tried and tested route will see my Victoria Cup selection Motakhayyel run a big race at a double figure price. Richard Hannon’s charge loves it here over Ascot’s straight 7F course with two Wins over C&D. The first of those came at the Royal meeting last June when he burst through to beat Jack’s Point on good to soft ground. Motakhayyel followed that up with another big handicap success in the Bunbury Cup at Newmarket. He was highly tried in group/listed company after that but wasn’t quite up to it. Connections will have been pleased with his comeback run at Thirsk when he finished second. He should come on for that run and despite top weight and the softening ground I think he will get involved.

Each way advised.

Rich –
I have 2 for you today…
Ascot – Good to Soft.
1.55 – Fillies’ Handicap – Class 2 – 3yo Plus – 1m…
Lights On – Siyouni X In The Light 4yo filly.
4 runs in 2020, with 1 win & 3 places. She won on her 2nd start, when improving from her debut 3rd over 1m in August at Newmarket, when behind Stunning Beauty.
Her win came on the all weather over 1m at Newcastle in September in a C5 fillies’ Novice Stakes.
The next 2 starts she finished 2nd & 3rd respectively. A break of 176 days before returning at Nottingham, from a mark of 85 & stepping up to class 3 company.
She landed the Class 3, 1m 75yd Fillies’ handicap by 2 & 3/4 lengths & looked ahead of the handicapper on April 27th. Now running from 92 & the bottom of the glass has yet to be filled….

Lingfield – Good, Good to Soft in Places..
2.15 – Oaks Trial Fillies’ Stakes – Listed – 3yo Only – 1m 3f 133yds..
Nash Nasha – Dubawi X Just the Judge filly.
2 wins from 3 starts. A debut 3rd of 6 at Newmarket over 7f on good to soft ground in a Class 4 maiden last July.
Won on 2nd start at this course on the all weather, when stepping up in trip to 1m in a Class 5 Novice Stakes, beating Lunar Shadow by 2 & 1/4 lengths.
Had 261 days off track before returning at Sandown. She stepped up in class & trip on return in a 1m 2f Class 4 Novice Stakes on April 23rd, beating Breccia by 1/2 a length from an opening mark of 78, now up to 86 & this could underestimate her as her Dam was 1000 Irish guineas winner, Just the Judge…

That is everything for you today folks… Thanks for your support & for popping by today, we really appreciate it..

Charlie –

2.25 Newmarket Pretty Poly Stakes

Selection – Taslima – 3 Year Old Filly out of Golden Horn and Tamarind. Has had just the one race finished a 2 length 2nd to stablemate Evania at Lingfield on the 22nd December last year over 1m 2f. With normal progress should strip better here and give Mr Gosden another victory in a race he’s won 5 times from last 7 renewals. Biggest threat to the selection comes in the shape of A’Sharri who won here over 7f last August when beating Ready To Venture by 3 and 1/2 lengths on soft ground. 3rd

.

3.00 Newmarket Dahlia Stakes

Selection – Fooraat – 4 year old Filly out of Dubawi and Nahrain. Has had 6 career starts so far winning twice and placing 2nd once. The wins have came on the all-weather at Newcastle and Chelmsford and the 2nd place came at Kempton on the 5th April when losing to Lavender’s Blue by 1 and 1/2 length. Biggest threat to the selection comes in the shape of Queen Power who was 2nd in this race last season behind Terebellum. NON RUNNER

Longchamp

1.33 Prix du Pont Neuf

Erasmo has made a promising impression in just 4 starts to date, winning twice including at listed level. A fair comeback run over 9f when 2nd but it’s no surprise to see this Oasis Dream colt back down to 7f where he has put up both wins. He’s not been missed in the betting, but should go well here especially receiving weight from one of his main market rivals today. – 2nd

Salisbury

2.35 British Steelstock Maiden Stakes

Mellow Magic caught the eye when a fair 3rd on debut in what appears a warm Newbury Novice race over 10f. She has looked a work in progress there but did run on nicely in the closing stages, hinting that a step-up in trip would suit. She looks to have been found a nice opportunity over 12f here and should go well. 2nd

The Guineas – 3.40 1000 Guineas – 3yo Fillies’ Only – Group 1 – 1m…

Charlie –

Selection – Saffron Beach – 3 year old filly out of New Bay and Falling Petals, has had 3 starts so far winning twice and placing 2nd once. All 3 starts have came at this venue beginning with a 4 and 1/4 length victory over Wootton Creek with Nebulosa a further 3/4 of a length behind in 3rd on the 26th September 2020. Returned here on the 9th October 2020 and won again beating Thank You Next by 1/2 a length with Shine For You a further length and 1/4 adrift in 3rd in a Group 3 over 7f. Most recently was a 3/4 length 2nd behind Sacred in another Group 3 over 7f here on the 14th April this year. With that experience under the belt can get involved here stepping up in distance to 1m. Although was beaten by Sacred last time out can exact revenge on that rival today with normal progress and is taken to land the spoils in a trappy looking renewal. 2nd

Chris –

Having backed this one to win the Fred Darling on the blog we go again in the 1000 Guineas with Alcohol Free. Andrew Balding’s filly battled gamely to win that day and connections are confident she will see out the trip. Already proven on the track after her Cheveley Park win and fast ground suiting her, she must run well today at a nice price. 5th

Jamie –

Selection: Sacred

A dozen Fillies’ go to post for the 1000 Guineas as The Haggas / Marquand combination go in search of another big winner. I like the chances of their Filly, Sacred who won the Nell Gywn over 7F a few weeks in nice fashion. That day she had Saffron Beach in 2nd and Star Of Emaraaty in 5th despite idling a little in the final 100 yards. So, we know that she handles the undulations of Newmarket well. Sacred is a Filly with a very bright future and on fast ground that will suit being an Exceed & Excel Filly she has to have a good chance of claiming this prestigious prize. Of the others I can see Mother Earth running a huge race along with Alcohol Free, who also acts well on this course. Unplaced

Rich –

Alcohol Free – No Nay Never X Plying 3yo filly.
The Group 1 Cheveley Park winner on final start of 2020 over 6f at this course. Off for 204 days before returning at Newbury on April 16th in the 7f Group 3 Fred Darling Stakes, denying Statement by a short head, Up in trip. 5th

Jamie –

2:45 – ParisLongchamp – Prix De L’Avre (Listed) – Selection: Soldier Rising

This looks a decent 1m 3f listed heat for the 3yo Colts. I am going to take on the favourite Fenelon with Andre Fabre’s Soldier Rising. My selection has 2 wins from 3 races so far in his career and won last time out at Chantilly in determined fashion over a mile and a half. He will need to improve from that run to win this, but he is trained by a genius. Being a Frankel he will appreciate the good ground and perhaps the drop back in trip will help Soldier Rising. Big chance under one of the world’s best in Pierre Charles – Boudet.

3:00 – Newmarket – Dahlia Stakes (G2) – Selection: Lavender’s Blue

Amanda Perrett’s Star Mare Lavender’s Blue holds strong claims of registering a third career win. Last season didn’t exactly go to plan for the daughter of Sea The Stars with no wins from 6 races and some below par efforts. On her 2021 reappearance she put them away nicely at Kempton in a listed race where she had Fooraat covered by over a length. The form looks solid overall. With a run under her belt, Lavender’s Blue should strip fitter today and she could be back to her best this season. The straight mile at Newmarket doesn’t hold any fears for me and on this ground I am confident of a big performance today. Queen’s Course is a worthy favourite and will be tough to beat. 3rd of 7

Rich –

Newmarket
2.25 – Pretty Polly Stakes – Fillies’ Listed – 3yo Only – 1m 2f…
Sea Karats – Sea the Stars X Kitcara Filly.

3rd on racecourse debut on April 16th at Newbury in a 1m 2f Class 4 maiden, beaten a short head, with the first few finishing in a bunch. Very unlucky when closing in the final furlong – 2nd

Longchamp – Paris
3.15 – Prix Ganay – Group 1 – 4yo Plus – 1m 2f 96yds
Magny Cours – Medaglia d’Oro X Indy Five Hundred 6yo gelding.

2 wins from 2 starts in 2020, landed a 1m Chantilly Listed Stakes in June before stepping up in trip at Sandown in Jly to win the 1m 2f Gala Listed Stakes by a neck.
Off for 240 days before winning a 1m 1f AW Chantilly stakes race on March 2nd, which was a prep run for the Dubai 1m 2f World Cup in Meydan.
He finished a 5 length 3rd to Mystic Guide on his first dirt start. Back on Turf today. UNPLACED

4.25 – Prix De Barbeville Stakes – Group 3 – 4yo Plus – 1m 7f 90yds…
Karlarina – Le Havre X Karsabruni 4yo filly.

Runner up to Wonderful Tonight in November 2019 by a short head & came into herself as a 3yo when stepping up in trip to over 1m 2f.
She won 3 from 3 including the Denisy Listed Stakes over this distance at Saint-Cloud on November 13th.
Off the track for 132 days before making a winning return at Saint-Cloud on March 25th, when running over 1m 4f in the Porte De Madrid Liasted Stakes, beating Brokeback Mountain by a Shorthead. 3rd of 7
