Charlie –
2.15 Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes Group 3 over 1m
Tilsit – Out of First Defence and Multilingual, is related to several top class performers including Remote, Kingman, First Eleven and Oasis Dream, has only had 2 career starts, was 2nd on debut at Newcastle on the 4th June this year beaten a head by Al Salt over 1m 5y in a class 5. Returned to Newcastle on the 27th June to race in another class 5 over 1m 5y and beat Make Some Magic by 19 lengths with London a neck behind in 3rd. I could be scratching my head after this race or jumping for joy as the favourite Khaloosy looks decent, with nice form in the book having won by 4 and 1/2 lengths last time out, however the way Tilsit won last time out was eye-catching and although this is considerably tougher may offer value if the favourite doesn’t deliver. Winner
.
2.45 Unibet Golden Mile Handicap Class 2 over 1m
Montatham -Out of Showcasing and Eastern Destiny, has ran 3 times this year beginning with a win at Newmarket on the 6th June beating Ambassadorial by 3 lengths with Alfred Boucher a further 1 and 3/4 lengths adrift in 3rd. Was beaten 1 and 1/4 lengths by Dark Vision in the Royal Hunt Cup at Ascot on the 17th June with Pogo a half length behind in 3rd. Montatham would meet Dark Vision again on the 5th of July in the Coral Challenge Handicap over 1m, this time the result went in the way of Montatham as he beat Dark Vision by a short head with Gallipoli a further length and 1/2 adrift in 3rd. If repeating that here that could be enough to take this race with the main dangers being Sir Busker and Vale of Kent who have both won here and over 1m. Non Runner
.
3.45 L’Ormarins Queens Plate Glorious Stakes Group 3 over 1m 3f 218y
Communique – Out of Casamento and Midnight Line, although hasn’t won for a while, has won here before back in 2018 when beating Zaman by 1 and 1/2 lengths over 1m 1f 197y. Last victory came at Newmarket on the 11th July 2019 when beating Mirage Dancer by 1 and 3/4 lengths over 1m 4f. Has finished 2nd on last two starts at Newmarket on the 9th July when beaten 2 and 1/4 lengths by Dame Malliot with Desert Encounter a further 1 and 1/2 lengths behind in 3rd. Was 2nd again at York on the 18th July when finishing 1/2 length behind Eagles By Day with Universal Order a further 3 lengths adrift in 3rd. If repeating previous form could gain compensation here having previously beaten Desert Encounter before. Unplaced

1.45 Oak Tree Stakes
Althiqa went into the notebook after a creditable 3rd at Haydock last month in the Eternal Fillies Stakes, having raced freely in the early stages. Connections then sent her to Deauville and she won the Prix Amandine 3 weeks ago over this trip. This will require more but having only had the four starts, it’s hard to believe there won’t be more to come from this Dark Angel filly. She should go well if handling the track at a very fair price. 3rd
2.45 Golden Mile Handicap
As ever, it’s a competitive renewal of this handicap, I’m siding Cardsharp to build on his season’s best run at Ascot last weekend, when 3rd in the International handicap. Cardsharp was rated as high as 111 a year ago, but like Ascot last time, will run off 10lbs lower today. Given the stable, the quick turnaround is no worry and as is the way, it pays to follow Mark Johnston’s runners at this meeting, this could be the one at a nice each-way price. Unplaced
3.45 Queen’s Plate Glorious Stakes
Desert Encounter has been a credit to connections over the years, winning the Canadian International in 2018 and 2019, as well as several Group races in the UK, including this contest last season. As seems to be the norm, he appears to take a couple of runs to hit form and arrives here on the back of a fair 3rd at Group 2 level in the Tattersalls Stakes, having been tailed off in the Coronation Cup on reappearance behind high class rivals. He’s not been missed in the betting, but I’d be very surprised were he not to be bang there at the finish. 2nd

1:45 – Saint Clair Oak Tree Stakes – Selection: Valeria Messalina
(E/W)
With such a well backed favourite it seems a good ploy to look for an e/w bet if your having a punt on this race. One that stands out for Jessica Harrington’s Valeria Messalina with Frankie Dettori an eye- catching booking for this last time out Group 3 winner.
She took a 7F Group 3 after finding the Irish 1000 Guineas too hot to handle, possibly making the pace over a mile just stretched her stamina too far.
She still has room to progress with just the four starts under her belt so far and if she can take a step forward from that Group 3 success at Cork then she must be in with a place shout, especially
with the weight allowance that she will getting for being a 3yo. Jessie’s horses are running very well (as seen yesterday with One Voice in the Nassau) and this filly looks the type to be competitive in a race of this nature. She will need a bit of luck from stall 12 in such a large field, but I can see her running a mighty race under the Dettori drive. 2nd
3:45 – L’Ormarins Queens Plate – Selection: Desert Encounter
An open little Group 3 here for some old stalwarts of the flat game. This looks to be Desert Encounter’s best chance of a win for quite some time. He has the ground, trip and track in favour, Jamie Spencer guided him to success in this race last year. Jim Crowley will do the steering and he can do nothing wrong right now!
So far in 2020 Desert Encounter has been tried at a high level yet again, finding Ghaiyyath too hot in Meydan and Newmarket before finishing a decent third behind Dame Malliot in the Princess of Wales at Newmarket’s July Festival. In front of him that day was Communique who faces him again today and will almost certainly either make the pace or be very handy. Desert Encounter will have togather him in and the fend him off. I am very hopeful of a repeat of last years win. 2nd
Final Word with Rich –
Nice to get back to winning ways yesterday…..
1.45 Oak Tree Fillies’ & Mares’ Stakes – Group 3 – 3YO Plus – 7f….
Althiqa – Dark Angel x Mistrusting 3yo filly. – Tracker
Had wind surgery after winning her maiden over 5f at Thirsk last May. Won on season return in a Newmarket 7f Class 5 Novice Stakes by 7 & 1/2 lengths on June 14th.
Finished a 3/4’s of a length 3rd of 12 in the 7f Eternal Fillies’ Listed Stakes at Haydock to Under the Stars on June 28th before travelling to Deauville on June 25th.
The trip to France was worthwhile as she landed the Listed 7f Armandine Stakes by a short head from My Love’s Passion. 3rd
2.45 Golden Mile Handicap – Class 2 – 3YO Plus – 1m….
Montatham – Showcasing x Eastern Destiny 4yo gelding.
Rated 104 and has a difficult draw but I am not put off by that. 2 wins from 3 runs in 2020 having landed a Class 3 Handicap 1m on season return from Ambassadorial on June 6th before finishing a 1 & 1/4 length runner up to Dark Vision in the Class 2 1m Royal Hunt Cup Handicap as Ascot 11 days later.
Reversed the form with Dark Vision in the 1m Class 2 Challenge Handicap at Sandown by a short head on July 5th, with Dark Vision winning a Pontefract Listed race on July 23rd.
Has only been raised 2 for that win…. Non Runner
