All 4 of us are back again, so lets get cracking…..

Charlie –

2.15 Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes Group 3 over 1m

Tilsit – Out of First Defence and Multilingual, is related to several top class performers including Remote, Kingman, First Eleven and Oasis Dream, has only had 2 career starts, was 2nd on debut at Newcastle on the 4th June this year beaten a head by Al Salt over 1m 5y in a class 5. Returned to Newcastle on the 27th June to race in another class 5 over 1m 5y and beat Make Some Magic by 19 lengths with London a neck behind in 3rd. I could be scratching my head after this race or jumping for joy as the favourite Khaloosy looks decent, with nice form in the book having won by 4 and 1/2 lengths last time out, however the way Tilsit won last time out was eye-catching and although this is considerably tougher may offer value if the favourite doesn’t deliver. Winner

.

2.45 Unibet Golden Mile Handicap Class 2 over 1m

Montatham -Out of Showcasing and Eastern Destiny, has ran 3 times this year beginning with a win at Newmarket on the 6th June beating Ambassadorial by 3 lengths with Alfred Boucher a further 1 and 3/4 lengths adrift in 3rd. Was beaten 1 and 1/4 lengths by Dark Vision in the Royal Hunt Cup at Ascot on the 17th June with Pogo a half length behind in 3rd. Montatham would meet Dark Vision again on the 5th of July in the Coral Challenge Handicap over 1m, this time the result went in the way of Montatham as he beat Dark Vision by a short head with Gallipoli a further length and 1/2 adrift in 3rd. If repeating that here that could be enough to take this race with the main dangers being Sir Busker and Vale of Kent who have both won here and over 1m. Non Runner

.

3.45 L’Ormarins Queens Plate Glorious Stakes Group 3 over 1m 3f 218y

Communique – Out of Casamento and Midnight Line, although hasn’t won for a while, has won here before back in 2018 when beating Zaman by 1 and 1/2 lengths over 1m 1f  197y. Last victory came at Newmarket on the 11th July 2019 when beating Mirage Dancer by 1 and 3/4 lengths over 1m 4f. Has finished 2nd on last two starts at Newmarket on the 9th July when beaten 2 and 1/4 lengths by Dame Malliot with Desert Encounter a further 1 and 1/2 lengths behind in 3rd. Was 2nd again at York on the 18th July when finishing 1/2 length behind Eagles By Day with Universal Order a further 3 lengths adrift in 3rd. If repeating previous form could gain compensation here having previously beaten Desert Encounter before. Unplaced

Chris –

1.45 Oak Tree Stakes

Althiqa went into the notebook after a creditable 3rd at Haydock last month in the Eternal Fillies Stakes, having raced freely in the early stages. Connections then sent her to Deauville and she won the Prix Amandine 3 weeks ago over this trip. This will require more but having only had the four starts, it’s hard to believe there won’t be more to come from this Dark Angel filly. She should go well if handling the track at a very fair price. 3rd

2.45 Golden Mile Handicap

As ever, it’s a competitive renewal of this handicap, I’m siding Cardsharp to build on his season’s best run at Ascot last weekend, when 3rd in the International handicap. Cardsharp was rated as high as 111 a year ago, but like Ascot last time, will run off 10lbs lower today. Given the stable, the quick turnaround is no worry and as is the way, it pays to follow Mark Johnston’s runners at this meeting, this could be the one at a nice each-way price. Unplaced

3.45 Queen’s Plate Glorious Stakes

Desert Encounter has been a credit to connections over the years, winning the Canadian International in 2018 and 2019, as well as several Group races in the UK, including this contest last season. As seems to be the norm, he appears to take a couple of runs to hit form and arrives here on the back of a fair 3rd at Group 2 level in the Tattersalls Stakes, having been tailed off in the Coronation Cup on reappearance behind high class rivals. He’s not been missed in the betting, but I’d be very surprised were he not to be bang there at the finish. 2nd

Jamie –

1:45 – Saint Clair Oak Tree Stakes – Selection: Valeria Messalina
(E/W)
With such a well backed favourite it seems a good ploy to look for an e/w bet if your having a punt on this race. One that stands out for Jessica Harrington’s Valeria Messalina with Frankie Dettori an eye- catching booking for this last time out Group 3 winner.
She took a 7F Group 3 after finding the Irish 1000 Guineas too hot to handle, possibly making the pace over a mile just stretched her stamina too far.
She still has room to progress with just the four starts under her belt so far and if she can take a step forward from that Group 3 success at Cork then she must be in with a place shout, especially
with the weight allowance that she will getting for being a 3yo. Jessie’s horses are running very well (as seen yesterday with One Voice in the Nassau) and this filly looks the type to be competitive in a race of this nature. She will need a bit of luck from stall 12 in such a large field, but I can see her running a mighty race under the Dettori drive. 2nd

3:45 – L’Ormarins Queens Plate – Selection: Desert Encounter
An open little Group 3 here for some old stalwarts of the flat game. This looks to be Desert Encounter’s best chance of a win for quite some time. He has the ground, trip and track in favour, Jamie Spencer guided him to success in this race last year. Jim Crowley will do the steering and he can do nothing wrong right now!
So far in 2020 Desert Encounter has been tried at a high level yet again, finding Ghaiyyath too hot in Meydan and Newmarket before finishing a decent third behind Dame Malliot in the Princess of Wales at Newmarket’s July Festival. In front of him that day was Communique who faces him again today and will almost certainly either make the pace or be very handy. Desert Encounter will have togather him in and the fend him off. I am very hopeful of a repeat of last years win. 2nd

Final Word with Rich –

Nice to get back to winning ways yesterday…..

1.45 Oak Tree Fillies’ & Mares’ Stakes – Group 3 – 3YO Plus – 7f….

Althiqa – Dark Angel x Mistrusting 3yo filly. – Tracker
Had wind surgery after winning her maiden over 5f at Thirsk last May. Won on season return in a Newmarket 7f Class 5 Novice Stakes by 7 & 1/2 lengths on June 14th.
Finished a 3/4’s of a length 3rd of 12 in the 7f Eternal Fillies’ Listed Stakes at Haydock to Under the Stars on June 28th before travelling to Deauville on June 25th.
The trip to France was worthwhile as she landed the Listed 7f Armandine Stakes by a short head from My Love’s Passion. 3rd

 2.45 Golden Mile Handicap – Class 2 – 3YO Plus – 1m….

Montatham – Showcasing x Eastern Destiny 4yo gelding.
Rated 104 and has a difficult draw but I am not put off by that. 2 wins from 3 runs in 2020 having landed a Class 3 Handicap 1m on season return from Ambassadorial on June 6th before finishing a 1 & 1/4 length runner up to Dark Vision in the Class 2 1m Royal Hunt Cup Handicap as Ascot 11 days later.
Reversed the form with Dark Vision in the 1m Class 2 Challenge Handicap at Sandown by a short head on July 5th, with Dark Vision winning a Pontefract Listed race on July 23rd.
Has only been raised 2 for that win…. Non Runner

3.15 King George Stakes – Group 1 – 3YO Plus – 5f….

Forecast – Both Trackers…
Battaash – Dark Angel x Anna Law 6yo gelding. 1st
Liberty Beach – Cable Bay x Flintshire 3yo filly. Unplaced

4.55 Fillies’ Maiden – 2YO Only – 6f…
NOTEBOOK…
Beautiful News – Shamardal x Besharah 2yo filly.
Dam Besharah was a winner over 5 & 6f at 2yo, including the Princess Margaret & the Lowther Stakes…
Interesting  Pedigree… Unplaced one to watch

That is everything for you today folks…. Thanks for your support & popping by….

This website is 100% independent & has NO affiliate links, curated by 2 racing enthusiasts from either end of the British Isles. Charlie hails from Glasgow while Rich is from the Isle of Wight, miles apart but united by the sport of kings….

What a another fantastic day for racing with Steel Bull landing the Molecomb & an unbelievable performance from Mohaather to land the Sussex Stakes in devastating style… On a sad note, Defoe will be greatly missed & was a fine Champion…

That was Day 2 & now we rock on to day 3, with a full compliment of contributors as Chris joins Charlie, Rich & Jamie….

Goodwood

2.45 John Pearce Racing Gordon Stakes Group 3 over 1m 3f 218y

Al Aasy -Out of Sea The Stars and Kitcara, has had 4 career starts winning twice and placing 3rd once. All 4 starts so far have come at Newmarket, was 3rd on debut over 7f in a Class 4 on the 23rd October last year, when finishing behind Tom Collins who won and Galsworthy who was 2nd. Returned to Newmarket on the 6th June and finished 5th in the class 1 listed Newmarket Stakes over 1m 2f, the race was won by Mishriff with Volkan Star 4 lengths behind in 2nd and Waldkonig a further neck behind in 3rd. Returned to Newmarket again for next run in the Betway Novice Stakes over 1m 4f on the 18th of June this year and won, beating Cigoli by 10 lengths with Royal Bassett a further 8 lengths adrift in 3rd. The Group 3 Bahrain Trophy Stakes over 1m 5f was next race at Newmarket on the 9th July and Al Aasy won again, beating Dawn Rising by 1 and 3/4 lengths with Al Dabaran a further length and 3/4 behind in 3rd. The beating of Dawn Rising was eye catching as he beat Yulong Pearlisland by 12 lengths at Limerick over 1m 4f in a Maiden on the 29th June this year. Unplaced

.

3.15 Qatar Nassau Stakes Group 1 over 1m 1f 197y

Nazeef -Out of Invincible Spirit and Handassa, Has had 6 wins from 7 starts and looks the one to beat here. The wins have came at Newmarket x 3, Chelmsford, Kempton and Ascot, covering distances of 7f to 1m. The last 3 wins have been at Class 1 level, beginning with the Class 1 listed Snowdrop Fillies Stakes over 1m at Kempton on the 3rd June this year, when beating Billesdon Brook by 3/4 of a length. Nazeef also added the Class 1 Group 2 Duke of Cambridge Stakes when beating Agincourt by a head over 1m. More recently Landed the Tattershall Falmouth Stakes at Ascot over 1m, when beating Billesdon Brook again by a neck this time. That form looks solid and if turning up in same frame of mind should be in the mix again today. 3rd

.

4.55 Tatler Nursery Handicap Class 2 over 5f

Acklam Express -Out of Mehmas and York Express, has had 2 career starts so far, beginning with a 3rd place finish at Beverley on the 17th June in a class 5 Novice race over 5f when finishing 4 and 1/2 lengths behind winner Country Carnival. Was sent to Hamilton for next race on the 12th July, in the British Stalion Studs EBF Novice Auction Stakes over 5f and won, beating Madreselva by 1 and 1/4 lengths with Two Cop Bop a further 3 and 1/4 lengths behind in 3rd.  Acklam Express has travelled 265 miles for todays race and isn’t travelling that far to make up the numbers. Winner

.

Jamie –

2:45 – John Pearce Gordon Stakes – Selection: Mogul
It’s like a rematch of the Derby as the second, fifth, sixth and tenth from Epsom all contest this Group 3. At the prices Mogul makes some appeal as he was only just beaten into by English King in the Derby. Aidan O’Brien’s Colt was a good juvenile last year, winning a Group 2 at Leopardstown on Champions Weekend. He returned as a 3yo in the King Edward when it looked like he badly needed the run when finishing fourth.
Mogul then helped to form part of the six strong Ballydoyle squad in the Derby, it was a bit of a strange race as we all know. Ryan got Mogul going in the straight, but the bird had flown by then. He stayed on nicely to claim sixth. The style of this Goodwood track and a smaller field I think will really help Mogul, the ground is perfect for him and at the prices he looks the one to side
with against the favourite. Winner

3:15 – Qatar Nassau Stakes – Selection: Fancy Blue
It could be a big day for the Michael Tabor silks as Fancy Blue and Magic Wand go to post for the final Group 1 of the week. With the weight allowance it is hard to ignore Fancy Blue, who last time held on to win what I thought was a cracking renewal of the Prix Diane at Chantilly.
I tipped her that day and I am not jumping off the ship as it appears that she is still progressing and growing all the time. This is her trip and hopefully she will cope with the Goodwood track fine.
The daughter of the late Deep Impact will have to improve but it looks likely that she will for a filly who is only having her fifth race today. There are many dangers with Deirdre, Magic Wand & Nazeef in opposition. A good race in prospect. Winner

4:20 – British EBF Fillies Maiden – Selection: Miss Chess
There are some unraced horses with decent pedigrees in this race, although I prefer to side with the horses who have had that racecourse experience. The favourite is too short for my liking, so I will take a chance here on the Hollie Doyle ridden Miss Chess.
Ed Vaughan’s charge put together a good run first time out at Yarmouth two weeks ago when a close third in what looked to be a very decent novice stakes, there looked to be some potentially decent types behind her that day. It is also interesting to bear in mind that Miss Chess is a Zoffany half-sister to Prix Diane winner Fancy Blue.
You can expect improvement from her first run and the Ed Vaughan stable do a solid job with their juveniles. She shouldn’t be too far away from the action in the final couple of furlongs. Unplaced

20200728_1856485559004367062022277.jpg

Chris –

2.15 Qatar Richmond Stakes

Admiral Nelson made a promising impression over 5f at the Curragh on debut last month but couldn’t back that up a week later at Royal Ascot. Several of the Ballydoyle two year olds also struggled with the fast turnaround there and like connections I’m prepared to give this Kingman colt a second chance at Group 2 level. He should relish the quicker conditions here and I wouldn’t be surprised were he to reverse Coventry Stakes form with Qaadar. Unplaced

3.15 Qatar Nassau Stakes

Fancy Blue was a real eyecatcher on her first run of the season in the Irish 1000 Guineas, finishing runner-up to stablemate Love. She took the step-up to today’s trip in her stride at the French Oaks earlier this month, reversing that form with Love and fending off Coronation Stakes winner Alpine Star on the line. This daughter of Deep Impact receives weight from her key rivals Nazeef and Deirdre today and should use that to good effect, with Ryan Moore opting for her instead of the consistent Magic Wand. Winner

Final Word with Rich –

1 place from 3 yesterday was not really good enough by the standards I set myself….

1.45 Handicap – Class 2 – 3YO Only – 1m 2f….

Zabeel Champion – Poets Voice x Stars in Your Eyes 3yo Colt.
2 wins from 3 starts in 2020. Finished 10th on season return at Yarmouth in a Class 4, 1m 2f Handicap on June 3rd before landing a Class 4 1m 2f Handicap on June 20th by 1 & 1/4 lengths and a Class 2, 1m 2f Handicap on July 10th by 1 & 1/2 lengths, both wins at Newmarket.
Only has had 5 career starts, with the June 20th Newmarket run yielding 2 other winners…. 2nd

2.45 Gordon Stakes – Group 3 – 3YO Only – 1m 4f….

Al Aasy – Sea the Stars x Kitcara 3yo filly.
10 & 1/2 lengths 5th of 9 to Mishriff in the 1m 2f Newmarket Listed Stakes on June 6th, Misriff is now a Group 1 winner & 2nd Volkan Star a Listed winner.
Al Aasy landed a Newmarket 1m 4f Class 5 Novice Stakes by 10 lengths on June 18th & then took the 1m 5f Group 3 Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket by 1 & 3/4 lengths on July 9th…. Unplaced

3.15 Nassau Stakes – Fillies’ Group 1 – 3YO Plus – 1m 2f –

Fancy Blue – Deep Impact x Chenchikova 3yo filly.
Won on both starts in 2019 including a 1m Curragh fillies’ Listed race in October before making season return in the Irish 1,000 Guineas on June 13th, finishing a 2 length runner up to Peaceful. Stepped up in trip last time out at Chantilly in the 1m 2f Prix De Diane, beating Alpine Star by a short head on July 5th… Winner

DANGER – Nazeef – Invincible Spirit x Handassa 4yo filly.
7 starts, 6 wins 1 place. Landed a Kempton 1m Class 1 Listed on June 3rd from Billesdon Brooke on season return. June 16th won the Duke of Cambridge 1m at Ascot by head & beat Billesdon Brook again in the 1m Falmouth Stakes, Fillies’ Group 1 on July 10th. Up in trip.

That is everything for you today folks… Thanks for your support & for popping by….

Charlie –

2.45 Molecome Stakes Group 3 over 5f

Sardinia Sunset – 2 Yr old Filly out of Gutaifan and Rush. Has ran 3 times finishing 2nd once and winning once. Was 2nd on debut at Newmarket on the 4th June this year when beaten 1 and 3/4 lengths by Sacred over 5f in a Class 5. Was an unlucky 4th when stepping up in Class at Ascot to Group 2 company finishing behind Campanelle who won with Sacred in 2nd and Caroline Dale who was 3rd. Was sent to Ascot for next race in the Class 1 Listed EBF Marygate Fillies Stakes over 5f on the 9th July and won, beating Furlong Factor by 1 length with Country Carnival a nose behind in 3rd. If repeating form shown so far that could be enough to take this race, biggest threat to the selection comes in the shape of Steel Bull who won on debut at Naas over 5f on the 22nd July. Unplaced

.

3.15 Sussex Stakes Group 1 over 1m

Mohaather -4 Yr old Colt out of Showcasing and Roodeye. Has had 7 career starts winning 4 times and placing 2nd once. The wins have came at Nottingham, Newbury and Ascot over distances of 6f to 7f. Won a Group 2 at Ascot over 7f and 213y on the 11th July when beating San Donato by 3 and 1/4 lengths with Duke Of Hazard a further neck behind in 3rd. Biggest danger to the selection comes in the shape of Siskin who is unbeaten so far winning 5 races from 5 starts. Winner

.

4.20 The Fennel Handicap Class 3 over 7f

Mountain Brave -3 Yr old Filly out of Sepoy and Plucky. Has had 8 career starts and hasn’t been out of first 4 places yet. Last 2 wins have came at Leicester and Windsor over 6f and 12y. The victory at Windsor on the 20th July saw Mountain Brave beat Theotherside by 1 and 3/4 lengths with Second Collection a further length and 1/4 back in 3rd. Biggest danger to the selection comes in the shape of Arigato who was 4th last time out over 7f at Newmarket. Unplaced

.

20200728_1856485559004367062022277.jpg

Jamie –

2:15 –  Handicap – Selection: Glenties
A competitive little handicap over 1m 4f with plenty of chances. Glenties took a step down in class last out at Windsor and duly took advantage. That win will do his confidence some good and he looks to be on a good handicap mark to make his presence felt.
Glenties finished second over C+D when a hampered second to Bright Eyed Eagle so we know that he acts at Goodwood well. His trainer Mark Johnston has an incredible record in handicaps at Glorious Goodwood and jockey William Buick is full of confidence.
The ground is perfect for Glenties, now he just needs some luck. He must have a good chance of making it back to back wins. Unplaced

2:45 –  Molecomb Stakes – Selection: Night On Earth
The Molecomb is always a tricky race to assess as maiden winners meet horses with listed or group race form. I’m going to take a punt on a horse who won going away at Windsor a few weeks ago, Night On Earth, for the Andrew Balding stable. After an ordinary debut performance at Windsor he returned to the same track a week later
to win his maiden very nicely.
This son of Kodiac is obviously highly thought of and is progressing very nicely. He will need to take another big step forward here to figure. Night On Earth is a proper 5F
sprinter, hopefully he gets a strong pace to aim at. I am hopeful of a big run here under the Champ Oisin Murphy. Unplaced

3:15 – Sussex Stakes – Selection: Siskin

A brilliant renewal of the Sussex Stakes awaits racing fans as the top two 3yo milers in Europe clash with some top older horses. Guineas heroes Kameko & Siskin meet older horses Circus Maximus & Mohaather. The weight for age allowance I believe will be enough to give the 3yo’s the advantage.
I have a lot of time for Siskin and his devastating late turn of foot can seal a famous win for the Ger Lyons / Colin Keane combination. He was in all sorts of bother in the Irish
2000 Guineas as Ballydoyle had him boxed in on the rails. Siskin eventually found daylight and put the race to bed very easily from Lope Y Fernandez, who finished a close second to Pinatubo in France a few weeks ago. So, the form is strong.
The likes of Kameko, Witchita & Circus Maximus may prefer a stiffer mile. That won’t
bother Siskin who has loads of pace and has won group races over 6F as a 2yo. I can’t wait to see how this one unfolds… 3rd

Final Word with Rich –

It was nice to start with a couple of winners & I thought Devious Company ran well when finishing 2nd to Battleground…. More of the same today will do very nicely…

2.15 Handicap – Class 2 – 3YO Only – 1m 4f….

A Star Above – Sea the Stars x Loveisallaround 3yo colt.
Carries 8s 2Lb at the bottom of the handicap with Holly Doyle on top. Had 2 runs as a 2yo over 1m 2f & only managed 1 place, stepped up to 1m 4f on seasonal return on June 22nd in a Thirsk Class 6 Maiden winning by 1/2 a length.
Made handicap debut at Leicester on July 7th, from an opening mark of 76. He landed the Class 5 1m 4f handicap by 1/2 a length and now runs from 83…. 2nd

2.45 Molecomb Stakes – Group 3 – 2YO Only – 5f…..

Sardnia Sunset – Gataifan x Rush 2yo Filly.
Debut 2nd to Sacred at Newmarket in a 5f Class 5 Maiden on June 4th before finishing a 4 & 1/2 length 4th of 18 at Ascot in the 5f Group 2 Queen Mary(Fillies’) Stakes. Landed the York 5f Fillies’ Listed Margate Stakes by 1 length from Furlong Factor. 1 of 2 fillies’ in the race & receives weights from the colts…. Unplaced

3.15 Sussex Stakes – Group 1 – 3YO Plus – 1m…..

Siskin – First Defence x Bird Flown 3yo colt.
Unbeaten over 6f as a 2yo, winning the Group 2 Railway Stakes & Group 1 Phoenix Stakes along the way at the3 Curragh last season.
Started 2020 on June 12th, when stepping up to 1m on seasonal return in the Irish 2,000 Guineas winning by 1 & 3/4 lengths from Vatican City. Jockey Colin Keane is over from Ireland & will have to Quarantine for 14 days when he returns home, this was too good to miss… 1win from 1 start over 1m…. 3rd

The DANGERS are there for us all to see….
Circus Maximus – Galileo x Duntle 4yo colt.
Finished 2nd in this last year behind Too Darn Hot and won the 1m Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes at Ascot on seasonal return. Joint top rated 120 & has 2 wins from 5 starts over 1m…
Kameko – Kitten’s Joy x Sweeter Still 3yo colt.
4th when last seen in the Derby(1m 4f) at Epsom on July 4th & didn’t stay the distance, so now drops back. The 2,000 Guineas winner at Newmarket on June 6th & also won the 1m Futurity Stakes Group 1 at Newcastle (AW) in 2019. 2 wins from 3 starts over 1m….
Mohaather – Showcasing x Roodeye 4yo colt.
7th on seasonal return to Circus Maximus in the group 1 Queen Anne at Ascot before landing the Summer Mile Group 2 at Ascot last time out by 3 & 3/4 lengths. 1 win from 3 starts over 1m….
It’s Siskin for me with Kameko & Circus for the places….

That is everything for you today folks…. Thanks for popping by & for the support, we really appreciate it…..

Charlie

Ascot

.

1.55 Bomb Proof -Won on debut at York for Jeremy Noseda when beating Monoski by 1 and 1/4 lengths on the 15th May 2019. Moved yards soon after to James Fanshawe and made 1st run a winning one for new trainer, when beating Star Prize by 3/4 of a length over 5f on the 23rd June this year. Should have more to come and looks a nice prospect, with bigger races to target further down the line.

.

4.15 Tiger Crusade -Was 3rd on debut at Yarmouth behind Al Suhail and Imperial Empire over 7f and 3y. Made next start a winning one when beating One Night Stand by 1/2 a length over 6f and 3y at Yarmouth on the 17th September 2019. Next start was at Doncaster on the 5th July this year and won again beating Society Lion by a neck with Jumaria Bay a further 2 and 1/4 lengths behind in 3rd. Looks a nice type and is taken to go in again here.

.

Wolverhampton

.

4.00 Global Warning -Is one of my trackers and although without a win since the 19th April 2019. Made seasonal return on the 6th June this year when finishing 7th at Newcastle. That was 1st run for 11 months and was a bit rusty, with that run under the belt should fair better today with biggest threat coming in the shape of Chookie Dunedin who has won 4 times from 5 visits to Wolverhampton.

Charlie –

York

.

2.40 York Stakes Group 2 over 1m 2f and 56y

Telecaster (Nap) – Has had  9 career starts winning 3 times and placing 2nd once and placing 3rd once. Won a Group 3 at Longchamp last month,  finished 3rd behind Lord North and Elarqam in the Betway Brigadier Gérard Stakes at Haydock in previous run to that 4 length victory at Longchamp. This race is a bit more deeper on paper but Telecaster seems in great shape this year and is taken to reverse previous form with Elarqam.

.

5.00 Skybet Nursery Handicap Class 4 over 6f

Kohinoor (Nb) -Has had 2 career starts winning once and placing 3rd in the other. The 3rd place came on debut at Goodwood when finishing behind Lullaby Moon who won and Stream who finished 2nd over 5f. Won next time out at Haydock when beating Famille Rose by  1/2 length over 6f. With that win under the belt should know what’s expected now and is taken to go in again.

.

Ascot

.

5.20 John Guest Racing Brown Jack Handicap Class 3 over 1m 7f and 209y

Solo Saxophone (3B) -Was a decent performer for the Skeltons over hurdles, has been a revelation on the flat since switching yards to Ben Haslam, winning last 3 flat starts in convincing fashion. The wins have came at Thirsk, Haydock and York. The handicapper has been a bit heavy handed by lumping on an extra 10lbs for those 3 wins but that may not be enough to derail the winning combination.

.

Charlie –

York

12.45 Class 5 Novice Stakes over 1m 2f 56y

Matthew Flinders -Out of Siyouni and Cascata, was 3rd on debut at Haydock on the 9th June behind Albaflora and Casting Vote. Was sent to Doncaster for next run, on the 30th June when winning over 1m 2f and 43y in a class 5 Novice Stakes, beating First Winter and Thumur. With a similar display today can gain another win, biggest threat comes in the shape of Brentford Hope who won on debut at Newmarket and is out of Camelot.

.

Newbury

1.05 Class 5 Novice Fillies Stakes over 7f

Verbena -Is a debutant out of Lethal Force and Red Bloom, is a half sister to Senator, Vasily, Masked Identity, Sea The Bloom and Raconteur. On paper that looks a decent bloodline and could gain a win at first time of asking.

.

2.15 Bet365 Handicap over 6f

Nahaarr – Has won 4 times from 7 starts, the wins came at Doncaster, Lingfield, Newmarket and Chelmsford over distances of 6f to 7f. Today’s race is over 6f and trainer William Haggas has his string in top shape at the moment. Although Nahaarr is 15/8 favourite for this race the next horse in betting is Silent Echo at 11-2 and that price difference says it all.

.

Chris –

York

3.05 Summer Fillies Stakes (Group 3)
Royal intervention progressed through the ranks last term, landing this race twelve months ago before Group 2 success in Germany. Things haven’t gone to plan in two starts this season, 7f doesn’t seem to be her trip and then the softer ground appeared to go against her after a break up at Haydock last month. Connections will be hoping for underfoot conditions as fast as possible and holds solid place claims if so, with several bookies paying 4 places at a double figure price.

Newbury

4.00 Marsh Cup Handicap
Moon King rattled off a five-timer last summer and seemed in fine fettle when winning on his seasonal reappearance at Haydock six weeks ago over this trip. A combination of the quick turnaround and the extreme test appeared to go against Moon King 8 days later, when finishing midfield over 2m 4f in the Ascot Stakes. Now only 2lbs higher than his Haydock win and versatile regarding ground, there could still be plenty more to come over this trip. Again, shop around as some could pay four Places if the race doesn’t cut up.

And sometimes we have a few friends round!

The last few weeks we have been joined by Jamie & Chris, this weekend is no different!

Jamie is back with us today to cover the Curragh including the Irish Oaks, Charlie will deliver has Saturday sermon while Rich will have the Final Word…..

Charlie –

Newbury

4.00 Hackwood Stakes Group 3 over 6f

The Tin Man – Although hasn’t won since beating Brando by 1/2 length at Haydock on the 8th September 2018, The Tin Man has ran in some top quality races since then, most notable was 2nd two starts back at Haydock on the 7th September last year, going down by 1/2 length to Hello Youmzain over 6f in the Group 1 Betfair Sprint Cup. With a similar display could easily go one better with Oisin Murphy taking the reigns today. Biggest dangers comes in the shape of Tabdeed who was 2nd last time out and Summerghand who won at Pontefract on the 7th July.

.

Haydock

6.25 British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes Class 5 over 7f 37y

State of Bliss -Newcomer from the inform Mark Johnson Yard, State of Bliss is a Colt who is out of Gleneagles and Crystal Valkyrie, cost €80k as a yearling and has the breeding to suggest that there is races to be won with him this year.

.

6.55 Join Racing TV Now Class 5 Handicap over 7f and 37y

Dutch Story -Is my Nap today and form figures read 12212 in handicaps over 7f. Was 2nd last time out at Yarmouth on the 3rd of June, when finishing a 1/2 length behind winner Ginger Max. Acts on any ground and is taken to go one better today with main dangers to the selection coming from Bell Heather who was 2nd at Hamilton on the 12th of July a neck behind Antico Lady, Constant is the other danger who finished 3rd last time out at Thirsk on the 29th June when behind Gullane One and Jill Rose.

.

Jamie –

The Curragh going – Yielding

5:45 – Paddy Power Minstrel Stakes –
Selection: Lancaster House

An informative little 7F Group 2 with the improving Lancaster House clashing here with multiple Group 1 winner Romanised. While Romanised is a classy horse and loves the Curragh he doesn’t have race fitness on his side and 7F on his reappearance may prove too sharp.
Lancaster house beat a smart horse in Speak in Colours over course and distance here on June 13th . Speak in Colours has since won twice and finished a three length fifth in the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot. There is a lot to like about Lancaster House, he sets a
nice standard here and should be hard to beat.

6:45 – Paddy Power Scurry Handicap –
Selection: Romantic Proposal (E/W)

You really could give six or seven horses a winning chance in this tough and competitive 6F. It may be a good play to look for an e/w angle and I think I may have found you all one here near the bottom of the weights. Last time out Romantic Proposal didn’t seem to get home over 7F at the same track on Irish Derby day, he looked to be coming with a strong challenge before his stamina petered out.
However, it was his first run of the season and it’s likely that he needed the run to blow away the cobwebs. The drop in trip should help Romantic Proposal and we all know that Eddie Lynam is a master of training sprinters. I am hopeful that he can run into a place late on if they go quick enough up front.

7:15 – Juddmonte Irish Oaks –
Selection: Cayenne Pepper

The fourth Irish classic of the season is upon us. It has a familiar feel as Aidan O’Brien takes on his Son Joseph, Jessie Harrington and Ger Lyons.
Epsom runner up Ennistymon arguably brings the best form to the table but the one horse that I like here, and I have always felt that this was the race for her is Cayenne Pepper. The daughter of Australia was a real eye catcher as a 2yo winning three out of her four races, her only defeat was in the Fillies Mile where she stayed on very well after getting unbalanced in the dip.
Jessie Harrington set her a stiff task on her 3yo bow as she faced Magical in the Pretty Polly three weeks ago. She was no match for the Ballydoyle star, but I thought she shaped well in second place. I think the confidence behind Cayenne Pepper will be justified!

Anyway back to the racing today & Charlie heads the Market, with Jamie & Chris strong in the middle part of the blog with Rich hoping to finish in style….

Charlie –

Ascot 2.05 Class 2 Handicap for Fillies over 1m

Melinkova – Frankel filly who won on debut on the 5th August 2019 at Kempton over 7f in a Class 4. Was 3rd behind Quadrilateral on next start at Newbury on the 20th September 2019 over 7f in a Class 2. If Sir Michael Stoute has her race ready, then she can gain another victory here in a Class 3. Main danger is Manaabit who has won twice in last 3 runs this year.

.

Newmarket 4.10 Bunbury Cup Class 2 Handicap over 7f

Mutamaasik – Dubawi Gelding who racked up 4 wins last year after finishing 2nd on debut at Kempton on the 5th June. Made reappearance on the 16th June this year in the Buckingham Palace Handicap at Ascot when finishing 3rd behind Motakhayyel and Jack’s Point over 7f. Meets Motakhayyel again here but has a 3lb advantage this time and that could be enough to reverse places this time around.

.

Ascot 4.25 Class 4 Handicap over 1m 7f and 209y

Stag Horn – Golden Horn Colt who finally got rid of the maiden tag at 4th attempt, when beating Bondi Sands by 2 and 1/2 lengths at Goodwood on the 15th June over 1m 6f. Made all in that race hinting that there is more potential of a follow up win. Main Danger comes from the Sir Mark Prescott trained Alphabetical who has won last 3 starts of 2020 and carries an extra 6lbs and is stepping up in trip.

Jamie – Has 3 from Newmarket

2:25 – British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies Handicap –
Selection: Fantail

A puzzling 3YO Fillies handicap for the punters to solve. A mixture of unexposed and exposed types go to post. I tend to side with the less exposed horses and I like one in here for Highclare Racing. Fantail, a twice raced Filly to date with both starts at Chelmsford City on the all-weather.
She won first time up in November of last year before returning to finish fourth on her first outing of 2020. Connections have decided to go down the handicap route with her and she could be very well handicapped at 8st 9lbs. There is a couple of question marks to answer as far as how Fantail will fare on the grass. It may be worth a gamble though.

3:35 – Darley July Cup –
Selection: Hello Youmzain

The July Cup, where the top three year – olds clash with the older generation for the first time in the sprint division. While Commenwealth Cup Golden Horde is a worthy favourite I am not jumping from the Hello Youmzain ship as I tipped him to win the Diamond Jubilee, where he beat Sceptical and Khadeem.
There should be more to come from Hello Youmzain as that was his first run of the season and he goes well with cut in the ground. The July Cup takes some winning and this tough and hardy horse will be right there, he just needs a strong pace to aim at. I am quietly confident.

4:10 – Bet365 Bunbury Cup –
Selection: Sir Busker

Royal Ascot form is under the microscope here as Motakhayyel, winner of the Buckingham Palace meets Silver Hunt Cup victor, Sir Busker. I am siding with Sir Busker under Champion jockey Oisin Murphy.
It was a huge late surge that got Sir Busker home in front at Ascot and I am hoping he can perform up to that level again as he will need to in this hotter race. William Knight’s charge has improved from 3 to 4 and to my eye still looks to be the right side of the handicapper. He has some good form in the book having beaten Hunt Cup winner Dark Vision at Newcastle on his first run of 2020.
That form doesn’t look too shabby does it? Sir Busker should be bang there and running on well at the finish.

Chris – Has 2 Ascot & 1 from Newmarket

3.15 Summer Mile (Group 2)

Mohaather had no luck in running at this venue when only midfield in the Queen Anne, but I’m banking on this son of Showcasing to gain some compensation today. While it’s a stretch to say he would have won that day, he would have almost certainly been placed behind Circus Maximus. Having only had 6 starts, he’s also one of the few improvers here against some solid yardsticks. He’s not been missed in the betting, but this previous Greenham Stakes winner could still be a solid Group 1 horse.

3.50 Betfred Heritage Handicap

A typically competitive Ascot cavalry charge over the minimum trip, I’m picking a solid each-way chance here. Final Venture has been around for a while, more than paying his way. While it could be argued he’s not quite the force of old, he was placed at listed level at Naas and in hot handicaps at Musselburgh and here at Ascot last season off 103, he runs off 101 today. A fair 3rd at listed level behind El Astronaute last month should have him spot on, I’ll be very surprised if you don’t get a run for your money at 16/1.

Newmarket

4.10 Bunbury Cup

Mutamaasik went in to the notebook after a creditable 3rd at Royal Ascot last month over this trip, coming home best in the centre group, away from the action on the stands side. He has a 5lb swing for a 2 length defeat from the winner, also from the same owner in Motakhayyel, yet is a slightly bigger price with most firms at this time. Roger Varian does well with these lightly races types who seem to always appreciate the time and patience given. This son of Dubawi can add to his four wins (all over this trip) from six starts to date.

Final Word with Rich –

I have 3 all from Newmarket….

12.10 Handicap – Class 3 – 4YO Plus -1m 4f….

Yuri Gagarin – 4YO Sea the Moon gelding won over a mile at Newcastle (AW) back in December when landing a C5 Novice Stakes on debut and also made a winning seasonal return, again on the AW, this time at Kempton when stepping up to 1m 2f on June 15th in a C5 Novice Stakes by 5 lengths. Up in trip again on turf debut. Has an opening handicap mark of 95….

3.00 Superlative Stakes – Group 2 – 2YO Only – 7f…..

Hudson River – Galileo Colt, who’s Dam is Meccas Angel, the dual winner of the Nunthorpe Stakes. The colt made a winning start to life when landing a 7f Maiden at the Curragh on June 28th by 1 & 1/2 lengths. His trainer Aidan O’Brien has won this race 4 times…

3.35 July Cup Stakes – Group 1 – 3YO Plus – 6f

Golden Horde – 3YO Lethal Force colt was a neck runner up in the Middle Park Stakes to Earthlight last September. Made a winning season return in the Group 1 6f Commonwealth Stakes at Ascot by 1 & 1/2 lengths on June 19th. Receives age for weight allowance of 6Lb…
