There is also a sprinkling of Newmarket in today’s blog post…

Going… Goodwood – Good to Soft…. Newmarket – Good

.

Charlie – 2.30 Summer Handicap

Selection – Aaddeey – 4 year old Gelding out of New Approach and Feedyah, has had 7 career starts so far winning 2 times and placing in a further 3 races. The wins came at Nottingham on 2nd start when beating Winter Thorn by 2 and 3/4 lengths over 1m 2f 50y on the 27th September 2020 on good ground. More recently won at Newmarket on the 13th May this year when beating Rodrigo Diaz by 4 and 1/2 lengths over 1m 4f on good ground. Although has only won twice has hinted that step up in distance would suit and is taken to win again today with biggest danger to the selection coming in the shape of Urban Artist who hasn’t been out of the first 3 in last 5 starts.

.

3.40 Stewards Cup

Selection – Hurricane Ivor – 4 year old Gelding out of Ivawood and Quickstep Queen, has raced 11 times winning twice and finishing 2nd once. The wins have came at Chantilly on debut when beating Equinozio by 7 and 1/2 lengths over 5f in May 2019. Won again on 3rd start at Chantilly on the 13th May 2020 when beating Crew Dragon by 3 and 1/2 lengths over 6f. Most recently was beaten a short head by Significantly at Ascot on the 10th July this year over 5f on good ground. If showing up in same mindset shown at Ascot last time out, can gain compensation in this race with biggest danger to the selection coming in the shape of Ejtilaab who has won last 2 races and carries an extra 8lbs for this race.

Chris –

Newmarket

2.45 EBF Chalice Stakes

Sayyida has progressed stylishly this term with a pair of wins here including on this July course a month ago. This daughter of Dubawi stayed on best over this trip off a mark of 86 that day. Whilst that leaves some room for improvement against a couple of todays rivals, she remains lightly raced and showed a fine attitude last time out. She must go well here and I’m expecting a big run.

Goodwood

3.40 Unibet Stewards Cup

Summerghand won this race last term and has been kept busy over the past 12 months. Things haven’t gone to plan the past twice in Group 1 company over 6f, but the positive is he now arrives back here just 1lb higher than last years success. His Group 3 win in April showed that the fire still burns bright and he is a fair each-way price at the time of writing, especially given his versatility regarding ground should the rain arrive. Shop around for best place terms but he makes plenty of appeal at the current double figure price.

Rich –

1.20 Handicap – Class 2 – 3yo Only – 7f….
Farasi Lane – Belardo X No Such Zone gelding.

This is the gelding’s 3rd C&D run having finished in the top 3 on his previous 2 starts & his form on turf in 2021 reads 2/2/1. His win last time out at Sandown on July 3rd in a Class 3 7f handicap by 2 & 1/2 lengths from IL Bandito, that was his 3rd start from a mark of 80 & has to carry a 5Lb penalty today, so runs from 85. Up in class & drawn in Stall 2….

1.55 Steward’s Cup – Sprint Handicap – Class 2 – 3yo Plus – 6f….
Mr Wagyu – Choisir X Lake Louise 6yo gelding.

4 wins from 10 runs in 2021, with another 4 top 3 places. Last win was at Haydock on July 2nd in Class 4 Handicap 6f, beating Lincoln Park by a nose. Next 3 runs have all been placed efforts, Runner up at York on July 10th by a short head in a C4 handicap, 6 days later when stepping up to this level & finished 3rd by 1 & 1/4 lengths to Commanche Falls at Hamilton & last time out at Newmarket finished 2nd by a neck, in a 6f C3 handiscp to Dancinginthewoods. Career high mark, Carries a penalty. Drawn in Stall 17…

And for a bit of fun, I like these 3 James Doyle rides at Newmarket..
1.00 Calm Skies
4.45 Sayyida
4.30 Ranchero

That’s all for today folks, thanks for popping by & for your continued support, we really appreciate it..

Glorious Goodwood – Day 4

Hello and welcome to day four of Arseonlineracing’s coverage of Glorious Goodwood… Presented to you by the 100% independent website with NO affiliate links….

Charlie landed another winner from his 1 selection, that’s 2 from 2 for the man from Glasgow. while the rest of us twiddle our thumbs….

The going at Goodwood is ….. Good to Soft, good in places

Charlie – 4.10 Queens Plate Glorious Stakes (Group 3)

Selection – Outbox – 6 year old Gelding Out of Frankel and Emirates Queen, has raced 18 times winning 6 times and placing in the first 3 on 7 separate occasions. The wins came at Ffos Las, Leicester and Newbury on first 3 starts, although didn’t win again until 8th March this year at Wolverhampton when beating Lucky’s Dream by 1 and 3/4 lengths over 1m 4f and 51y. Won again on next start at Doncaster on the 28th March when beating Raymond Tusk by 1 and 3/4 lengths over 1m 3f 197y on good ground. This was followed up by finishing 3rd at Newbury, finished 4th at Ascot and then finished 4th at Goodwood on next 3 starts. More recently finished 2nd at Leicester on the 7th of June beaten a length by Highest Ground over 1m 3f 179y on good to firm ground. Was then sent to Newmarket on the 26th June and won the listed Close Brothers Fred Archer Stakes over 1m 4f when beating Logician by 1 length with Pablo Escobar a further 3 and 3/4 lengths adrift in 3rd. Most recently was beaten 1 and 3/4 lengths by Hukum in the Group 3 John Smiths Silver Cup at York on the 10th July over 1m 5f 188y on good ground. Outbox has been in great form of late and is taken to get back in the winners enclosure today biggest threat to the selection comes in the shape of Passion and Glory who has won last 2 starts.

.

Chris –

1.50 Unibet 3 Boosts A Day Goodwood Handicap

One of the longest races on the calendar and I’m sticking with experience and previous course form in The Grand Visir. The Ian Williams trained runner was narrowly beaten into 4th in this race last year and has put in some very creditable efforts over staying trips since, notably when placed in the Chester Cup and then the Queen Alexandra Stakes. He remains a fair price here and won’t mind if the course receives any more rain before the off.

4.10 Queen’s Plate Glorious Stakes

Passion And Glory has made giant strides this term with comfortable handicap wins this summer at Lingfield and Ascot. He now takes his chance at group level against some fair rivals but there is every reason to be believe that he’s not quite done improving just yet, especially back up at this 12f trip. Softer ground is no issue and I can see a bold run for your money here.

Jamie –

3:00 – Unibet Golden Mile Handicap – Selection: Johan

Arguably the most competitive handicap of the week and one many punters will be getting stuck into. I was torn between Magical Morning & Johan but with the form of his Salisbury win last time out boosted here on Tuesday I am going for Johan. It was a return to top form for the William Haggas trained son of Zoffany after modest efforts at Newbury & York earlier in the season. As I said before the form of that Salisbury race, another class 2 handicap was boosted by Migration winning a good race here on Tuesday. With Ryan Moore booked, a good draw in stall 2 and the ground in his favour, everything is set for a big performance from Johan. Corazon Espinado could go well at a big price.

3:35 – King George Stakes (G2) – Selection: Dragon Symbol

This race appears mainly to be a three horse race between defending Champion Battaash & the young 3yo Dragon Symbol with Angel Power in the mix too. I believe that Dragon Symbol has the weaponry to dethrone Battaash today if he is in tip top form. Archie Watson’s charge has done little wrong so far this season with four straight wins followed by three seconds in the space of four months, his rise through the ranks has been rapid and there should be more improvement to come. Last time out in the July Cup he found only Starman too good in what was a red hot edition of that race, Angel Power was fourth that day. Previous to that Dragon Symbol lost the Commonwealth Cup in the stewards room and found only Rohaan too good at Haydock by a diminishing nose. His record over 5F is 1-1 and I think the race will set up nicely for him. He also receives 4lbs from Battaash today and holds every chance.

Rich –

3.00 Golden Mile – Handicap – 3yo Plus – Class 2 – 1m…
Shelir – Dark Angel X Shelina 5yo gelding.

Rated 96 & has finished runner up twice in handicaps from this mark. 2nd on his last 2 starts, both over 1m, on July 4th at Ayr in a Class 3 handicap, only beaten a short head & again last time out, also at Ayr in a Class 2 handicap, July 19th, to Marie’s Diamond by a head, that was from 97 & runs from 96, with 1 due to be added after this race. Drawn in Stall 1 & has a decent EACH WAY chance…

3.35 King George Stakes – Group 2 – 3yo Plus – 5f….

I could put up Battaash, who was 4th LTO having returned from a operation during the winter & is likely to be better today, Breeders Cup Turf Sprint winner Glass Slippers, who returns today & has never won first time out OR Dragon Symbol, who is running well in defeat but NOT TODAY, although they are all DANGERS…
Arecibo – Invincible Spirit X Oceanique 6yo gelding.
Changed yards in the winter & has had 5 runs for new stable. Rising from a returning mark of 91 to 112, which he runs from today. He has won twice & finished 2nd in another 2 starts. The gedling ran really well in the Group 1 King’s Stand at Royal Ascot to finish 1 & 3/4 lengths behind winner Oxted on June 15th before filling another runner up spot last time out on July 3rd at Sandown in the Group 3 Charge, only beaten a neck from Came from the Dark. Drawn in Stall 12 – EACH WAY

That’s all for today folks, thanks for popping by & for your continued support, we really appreciate it..

Goodwood – Day 3

Hello and welcome to Day 3 of Arseonlineracing’s coverage of Glorious Goodwood..

The going at Goodwood is…. Good

Goodwood

Charlie & Chris returned with a winner each, while Rich grabbed a 3rd…

Charlie –

2.25 Unibet Richmond Stakes (Group 2) Colts and Geldings

Selection – Assymetric – 2 year old Colt out of Showcasing and Swirral Edge, has ran 3 times winning twice and finishing 2nd in the other. The wins came at Goodwood on debut when beating Mojomaker by 1/2 length on the 4th June this year over 6f on good ground. Next win came at Newmarket on the 18th June when beating Sterling Knight by 1 and 3/4 lengths over 6f on good to soft ground. Most recently was beaten a head into 2nd by Lusail in the Group 2 Tatersalls Stakes at Newmarket on the 8th July over 6f on good to firm ground. Has shown excellent form so far and was just a tad unlucky to get beaten by a head at Newmarket last time, if showing up in same mindset today should gain compensation in this race with biggest danger to the selection coming in the shape of Gubbass who has won first 2 races.

.

Chris –

3.35 Qatar Nassau Stakes

Audarya ended last season with a huge success in the Filly & Mare Turf at the Breeders Cup, adding to her Group 1 win in France last Autumn. She finished a close 2nd behind Love last month in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes over this trip on her first start for 8 months and looks primed for a big run. Soft ground holds no fears and the trip is ideal; it will take a very good filly to beat her today.

Galway

6.15 Guinness Galway Hurdle

Magic Tricks looks to have been laid out for this race by connections after some promising efforts over timber during his novice season. Runner-up in a typically competitive Fairyhouse handicap over Easter, this Davidoff gelding arrives here just 5lbs higher with a pipe opener on the flat a fortnight ago to protect his mark. He’s not been missed in the betting, but is still a fair price at the time of writing, he should go close in what looks a very strong renewal.

.

Jamie –

3:00 – John Pearce Racing Gordon Stakes (G3) – Selection: Third Realm

An intriguing renewal of the Gordon Stakes, which was first run in 1902. Third Realm gets the nod from me after a decent run to be 5th in the Derby. Roger Varian’s son of Sea The Stars still has got plenty of potential on what will he just his fifth race today and to be honest I think he is the best horse in the race today. I don’t think Third Realm handled the track particularly well at Epsom, in my book he did well to finish fifth that day. Before Epsom he had taken out the Lingfield Derby trial where he beat Derby & King George winner Adayar fair and square. That is the best form line on the table and with yet more improvement expected, I expect Third Realm to prove tough to beat. However, Wordsworth is a lovely horse and is improving while Yibir I feel is too big a price.

6:15 – Guinness Galway Hurdle – Selection: Belfast Banter

The prestigious 2m Galway Hurdle is as competitive as ever with Grade 1 winners clashing with seasoned handicappers. Belfast Banter is one of those Grade 1 winners courtesy of a win at Aintree in April. Peter Fahy’s stable star has been a revelation since the Spring, starting with a big priced success in the County Hurdle at Cheltenham. That was followed by a top level win at Aintree’s National meeting over today’s trip. Further improvement from Belfast Banter is likely and he still looks feasibly weighted at 10st 13lbs. It’s a Galway Hurdle though and he will need some luck in running of course, if he gets a clear run though on ground he likes, I can Belfast Banter going close. It must also be noted that he has won over C+D in a Maiden Hurdle here last October. There is a lot going for this horse. Another I like is Annexation for the De Bromhead team at an each way price.

Rich –

3,00 Gordon Stakes – 3yo Only – Group 3 – 1m 3f 218yds..
Wordsworth – Galileo X Chelsea Rose colt.

A drop from Group 1 company for the son of the late Galileo today. He has finished behind Hurricane Lane on his last 2 starts, in the 1m 4f Irish Derby at the Curragh on June 26th & last time out on July 14th in Longchamp, when running in the Grand Prix De Paris, again over 1m 4f. Although his only win in 2021 was his maiden back in April, he is ultra consistent & hopefully the drop in grade will yield the win…

3.35 – Nassau Stakes – Fillies’ Group 1 – 3yo Plus – 1m 1f 197yds..
Joan of Arc – Galileo X You’resothrilling 3yo filly.

A group 3 winner when landing the Irish 1000 guineas trial at Leopardstown on May 8th before finishing 2nd in the Irish 1000 guineas at the Curragh to Empress Josephine. She was stepped up in trip to 1m 2f in the Group 1 Prix De Diane at Chantilly, winning by 3/4’s of a length from Philomene.
DANGER – Audarya – Wootton Bassett X Green Bananas 5yo Mare.
Breeders cup fillies’ & Mares’ Turf winner in November, who made seasonal return on June 16th at Ascot in the Prince of Wales’ Stakes, finishing a 3/4’s of a length runner up to Love…

That’s all for you today folks… Thanks for popping by & for your support, we really appreciate it..

Goodwood – Day Two

Hello & welcome to Day Two of Arseonlineracing’s coverage of Glorious Goodwood Festival (With a hint of Galway)
This website is 100% Independent with NO affiliate links….

Jamie landed our only winner of the day yesterday but we are back to full strength today, so let’s get started..

The GOING at Goodwood is Soft, Heavy in places

.

Charlie – 4.45 British EBF Premier Fillies Handicap

Selection – Achelois – Out of Zoffany and Fontley has raced 7 times so far and has won twice, the wins came at Newbury on the 14th May when beating Soundslikethunder by a nose over 7f on Good to Soft Ground. More recently won at Ascot on the 10th July this year when beating Arafi by 2 and 3/4 lengths over 1m on Good Ground. Steps up in trip to 1m 2f for todays race and if showing same attitude as last time at Ascot should be in the mix, biggest danger comes in the shape of Percy’s Pride who should handle today’s ground.

.

Chris –

3.00 Molecomb Stakes

Nymphadora broke her maiden tag in a useful listed race at York in May, before finishing midfield in the Queen Mary at the royal meeting all over this trip. The ground there seemed plenty quick enough for this daughter of No Nay Never and she would have finished slightly closer but for meeting trouble in the closing stages. This doesn’t appear an overly strong renewal on paper and at the current double-figure price she makes plenty of each-way appeal.

3.35 Qatar Sussex Stakes

Alcohol Free has put in some fine efforts to date, not beaten far in both the 1000 Guineas (5th) and the Falmouth Stakes (3rd). She landed the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot and will again encounter conditions similar to that here. It seems she won’t be hindered by soft ground whereas some of her rivals face a question mark there. I’m expecting a bold show and must hold every chance of landing a third Group 1 success with the yard still enjoying plenty of winners recently.

Jamie –

2:25 – Whispering Angel Oak Tree Stakes (G3) – Selection: Vadream

This is a hugely competitive renewal of this 7F Group 3 prize with 15 going to post. With further rain forecast I’m looking for horses with soft ground form and I like the chances of Vadream today. Charlie Fellowes’ 3yo has only had the five races so far in her career and is open to further progress. Vadream has some very smart form in the book, especially her third in the Jersey Stakes at the Royal meeting on soft ground. It was another very solid performance last time out when second behind Light Refrain at York, the reaposing Onassis was fourth that day. If she replicates that Jersey Stakes effort then she will be right in the thick of things close home. It is likely Vadream has progressed since York and  holds every chance. The dangers – Bouncetheblues & Valeria Messalina, who has an excellent record over 7F.

6:15Tote Galway Plate – Selection: Koshari

The feature race on day 3 of the Galway Festival and everyone wants it on their CV. Koshari is part of the six strong Willie Mullins team after a good win at the Punchestown Festival last time out. That day he beat one of the market leaders, The Shunter by a length and today that rival has to give him 12lbs as Koshari is 10lbs lower over fences. Admittedly he will have to jump better today than at Punchestown or Cheltenham, as jumping is crucial around Galway with it being a tight turning track. The forecast rain wouldn’t worry connections of Kosahri as he has won on soft / heavy in the past. I am confident of a bold show today off a nice low weight and he makes lots of appeal at an each way price. Another who could go well at double figure odds is Darasso who is 4/6 over fences and ran a blinder when second last time out in the Grimes Hurdle.

Rich –

1.50 Handicap – Class 2 – 3yo Only – 1m 3f 218yds
Kolisi – Harzand X Wild Step gelding.

3 starts.. 1 place(2nd) & 1 win.
Debut at Ripon back in April over 1m 2f in a Class 4 Novice stakes, finishing 3rd of 4 runners, some 9 & 3/4 lengths behind the winner. Dropped back in distance on second start in May at Nottingham to 1m 75yds, when finishing a neck 2nd to Ranchero in a class 5 Div2 Novice Stakes. Made no mistake on 3rd start on June 23rd at Salisbury. He stepped back up to 1m 2f & won by 2 & 1/4 lengths.
Last 2 runs on soft ground & now stepped up in trip again on handicap debut from an opening mark of 87….

5.20 Handicap – Class 3- 3yo Plus – 7f…
Be Prepared – Due Dillegence X Chicklade 4yo gelding.

Has had 4 turf runs this season finishing 1/3/1/3 over 6 & 7f.
Both wins on soft ground. Won at Lingfield in a 7f Class 4 handicap on June 28th by 3 & 1/4 lengths before finishing 3rd on his last start at Ascot on July 10th, when running in a Class 4 7f Handicap, by 3 & 1/4 lengths in a field of 12 runners & runs from 87, the same mark as at Ascot…

That’s everything for you today folks, thanks for popping by, we really appreciate your support…

Glorious Goodwood – Day 1

Hello & welcome to Arseonlineracing’s coverage of Glorious Goodwood (And a bit of Galway later in the week)..
This website is 100% independent with NO affiliate links.

Charlie & Chris will join us tomorrow, so for the opening day of the festival from Goodwood, Jamie & Rich will take you through day one….

The going is Heavy, Soft in places

Jamie –

2:25 – Vintage Stakes (G2) – Selection: Berkshire Shadow

Seven runners go to post for this Group 2 race with a rich roll of honour. Berkshire Shadow has done nothing wrong in his two starts and I think he can make it 3/3 today. The son of Dark Angel followed up his smooth Maiden success at Newbury by taking out the Coventry at Royal Ascot last month. That day he had today’s rival Elderickjones behind by nearly two lengths. Berkshire Shadow stayed on well over 7F at Ascot so it would seem likely he will cope with an extra furlong today no problem. The Balding / Murphy combination are flying at the moment, this horse has a lot going for him. Lusail is the big danger.

3:35 – Goodwood Cup (G1) – Selection: Trueshan

The overnight rainfall that has turned the ground heavy, soft in places will be music to the ears of Alan King and connections of Trueshan. The progressive stayer posted the best performance of his career so far on soft ground at Ascot on Champions Day last season by winning the Long Distance race. He really powered home to win by a wide margin that day. So far this campaign Trueshan has finished second to Japan at Chester and sixth in the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle, it’s hardly inspiring form but he did unfortunately miss Ascot due to quick ground. Trueshan will need to bring his A-game if he is to topple Stradivarius but with the Champion Stayer looking perhaps vulnerable after defeat at Ascot and on this ground, Trueshan might be too good today for him. Emperor Of The Sun might be worth an each way play.

Rich –

3.00 Lennox Stakes – Group 2 – 3yo Plus – 7f….
Space Blues – Dubawi X Miss Lucifer 5yo horse.

Winner of this race last season when beating Duke of Hazzard by 2 lengths, that win was part of an unbeaten season which took in the Haydock Listed Spring Stakes, the Longchamp Group 3 Prix De La Porte Mailot before ending in August at Deauville, when Space Blues landed the 7f Group 1 Prix Maurice De Gheest.
He was off until February when he went to Riyadh to land the 6 & 1/2f Turf Sprint by 3/4’s of a length.
A trip to Meydan followed on March 27th, when finishing down the field in the 6f Al Quoz Sprint, 9th of 13.
back after 122 days off the track & back over 7f, where he is 5 wins & 2 places from 7 runs over this trip…
DANGER – Creative Force – Dubawi X Choose Me 3yo gelding.
A 2 length 5th of 19 in the Group 1 July Cup at Newmarket on July 10th, having landed the 6f Group 2 Jersey Stakes at Ascot in June. 1 win at 7f & 3 wins over 6f from 5 runs this season.

4.10 Handicap – Class 2 – 4yo Plus – 5f…
King of Stars – Starspangledbanner X Glowing Star 4yo gelding.

Spent most of 2021 on the all weather at Southwell before running on Turf at Bath back on April 6th in a 5f Class 4 handicap, winning by 2 & 1/4 lengths. He was beaten at neck at Beverley on April 14th, when tackling a Class 3 5f Handicap.
Had 86 days off as he had been on the go since December 2020.
Returned on July 9th at Newmarket in a Class 3 5f Handicap, finishing a neck 2nd to Twlight Calls, with the front pair 3 &1/4 length ahead of the field, 5th & 14th have both won since. Has risen from a mark of 80 at Bath to 92 today…

That’s all folks for day one… We hope you enjoyed the recent BIG Interviews & fingers crossed there are more to come…

All the Best – The Arseonlineracing Team

Here, There & Everywhere!

Hello & welcome to Arseonlineracing… The 100% independent racing website with NO affiliate links…

There was Snowfall at Epsom in June, when Aidan O’Brien’s filly landed the Oaks, will there be Snowfall at the Curragh in July? The forecasted odds of 2/7 have her as the likely winner & we hope she can make it 3 wins on the bounce…. And unlikely to be selected here at those odds!

The 4 of us were sadden to hear of the passing of Galileo, a fantastic race horse, whose legacy as a sire will live on for generations.. Run Free.

Galileo

As like last weekend, we are going around the courses to try & find some winners & value…. With Newbury, Newmarket, the Curragh, Ripon amongst the cards running tomorrow afternoon. Add some NH summer jumps & evening flat cards, it is a very busy day all round (You have to wonder if it would be spread around the weekend better!)

Charlie –

Newbury 4.45 Fillies and Mares Novice Stakes over 1m 2f

Selection – Princess Nadia – Out of Sea The Stars and Princess Noor, has had 2 racecourse starts so far, was 3rd on debut at Salisbury on the 13th May this year behind winner Pretty Fair and Tucsun Cloud over 1m 1f 201y. Was then sent to Haydock on the 9th June this year and finished a 3/4 of a length 2nd to Mandoob over 1m 3f 140y. With normal progression should win today in a slightly easier race on paper biggest threat to the selection comes in the shape of Mawenzi a daughter of Dubawi who won on debut at Wolverhampton.

.

Curragh 5.10 Aquaturf Handicap over 2m

Selection – Ever Present -Out of Elusive Pimpernel and Persian Memories, has had 6 career starts so far winning 3 times including last 2 starts at Leopardstown. Won on debut at Punchestown back in October 2020 when beating The Big Story by 1 and 1/4 lengths. Won again on 5th start at Leopardstown on the 17th June this year when beating Monas Melody by 6 lengths over 1m 7f on good to firm ground. Returned to Leopardstown on the 8th July and won again beating The Names Jock by 1/2 length over 1m 7f on good ground. Has been in fantastic form last 2 starts on the flat and should gain another win today with the biggest threat to the selection coming in the shape of Hector De Maris who’s trained by Aidan O’brien.

.

Chris –

Newbury

3.00 Hackwood Stakes

Tabdeed run his rivals down late in this contest last year and arrives here after a similar path this term, running a sound prep race at Newcastle. This Havana Gold gelding has clearly had his issues as he’s lightly raced for his age, but there’s no denying he is a very talented individual when on song. I’m expecting a good run here with conditions to suit.

Newmarket

3.35 Aphrodite Fillies Stakes

Free Wind put in a pair of eye catching efforts in novice races over 10f last month and rightly takes a step up in grade now. She looks ready for this test and is out of a 12f winning filly with her sire the much missed and hugely influential Galileo. The Gosden team have been patient with her and can be rewarded with another black-type winners for connections here.

Jamie –

Newbury

1:50 – Bet365 Stakes (Listed) – Selection: Derab

This is a solid looking listed heat over the 10 furlong trip. The fact that my selection Derab isn’t favourite at the time of writing does surprise me a little but you can’t argue that Real World wasn’t very impressive at the Royal meeting. However, Derab has a lot going for him today and I think this is an exciting prospect going forward. The half brother to Enable still has untapped potential and receives a big chunk of weight, 7lbs to be precise from the likes of Real World. Derab currently still has only the one win to his name, a Newmarket Novice event back in May. After that the Gosden team decided to take their chance in the Prix Du Jockey Club. It is fair to say that being held up off a steady pace didn’t help Derab on soft ground and he finished 8th of 19. Back down a few grades and on quick ground today, Derab should be in the mix on all known form.
He looks well in on the ratings.

The Curragh

2:50 – Sapphire Stakes (G2) – Selection: Measure Of Magic

A field of 8 go to post for this 5F Group 2 contest. After a very good performance in the Commonwealth Cup at the Royal meeting when 3rd Measure Of Magic gets the nod here. It was a career best from the son of Kodi Bear who is back in calmer waters today and holds major claims of taking a 5th win from 9 races. A return to quick ground today will suit Measure Of Magic even better than the heavy going he encountered at Ascot. The danger is undoubtedly Logotype who is progressing nicely having won his last two races and will be a tough nut to crack. However, if my selection runs up to his Ascot form, which has been boosted by Laws Of Indeces winning the Prix Jean Prat, then he should be right there in the closing stages.

Rich –

Newbury( Good, Good to soft in Places)
1.50 Steventon Stakes – Class 1 Listed – 3yo Plus – 1m 2f….
Derab – Sea the Stars X Concentric 3yo colt.

Half brother to Enable via Dam. Had a run at this course on his 2nd start, when finishing a 1 & 3/4 length runner up to Snow Lantern in a 1m Class 4 Maiden in April.

Charlie –

Ascot 3.00 Betfred Summer Mile Stakes (Group 2)

Selection – Tilsit– 4 Year old Colt out of First Defence and Multilingual. Has raced 6 times winning 2 times and placing 2nd on two separate occasions. The wins came at Newcastle on 2nd start when beating Make Some Magic by 19 lengths on the 27th June 2020 over 1m 5y. Won again on next start at Goodwood on the 31st July when beating My Oberon by 1 and 1/2 lengths over 1m. The 2nd places came at Newcastle when making debut, only losing by a head to Al Salt over 1m 5y on the 4th June 2020. Most recent was 2nd in the Prix d’lspahan going down by a head to Skalleti over 1m 1f 55y. Has been holding his form well and was unlucky last time out when looking like the winner before being caught close to the line, this race is a bit easier on paper and is taken to gain compensation here with biggest danger coming in the shape of Top Rank who has won 5 times from 10 races and was 2nd to Century Dream last time out at Windsor. WINNER

.

Newmarket 3.50 Bet365 Bunbury Cup (Heritage Handicap)

Selection – Perotto – 3 Year old Gelding out of New Bay and Tschierschen, has ran 11 times winning 4 times and placing 5 times. The wins came at Goodwood twice Sandown and Ascot. The first win at Goodwood was back in June 2020 when winning in a small field of 3 runners over 6f. Next win came at Sandown on the 7th August 2020 when beating Onaraggatip by 1 and 3/4 lengths over 5f 10y in another race where only 4 ran. The next 2 wins came on most recent starts beginning with a short head victory over Starshiba at Goodwood on the 6th June this year over 7f and more recently at Ascot when beating Liffey River by 1/2 length over 1m. Is only 2lb higher for this race and is taken to go in again here, with biggest threat to the selection coming in the shape of Ametist who has won on last 4 starts. Unplaced

.

York 4.05 John Smiths Cup Handicap

Selection – Surrey Pride – 4 Year old Colt out of Lope De Vega and La Conquerante. Has ran 10 times winning 4 times. The wins have came at Bath, Newbury, Chester and York. 1st win came on 2nd start at Bath on the 30th September 2019 when beating So I Told You by a neck over 1m. Won again on the 15th August 2020 at Newbury when beating Hms President by a neck over 1m 2f. Won again on next start at Chester on the 11th September 2020 when beating Summit Reach by 1 and 1/2 lengths over 1m 2f 70y. More recently won on latest outing at York on the 14th May this year, when beating Makram by 1 and 1/4 lengths over 1m 2f 56y. Although has only won 4 times has won twice in succession before and is taken to win again today, with biggest threat coming in the shape of Astro King who has not been out of the first 3 in last 5 races. Unplaced

Ascot

3.05 Betfred Summer Mile

Top Rank had been a relatively progressive miler during his career to date, winning at listed level this term as well as being placed in the Lockinge and Midsummer Staked last time out. Top Rank enjoys a 5lb swing in the weights with Century Dream this time around and should reverse that form. The ground is fine and he looks more than capable of adding a first Group 2 to his CV this afternoon. 4th

Newmarket

4.25 Darley July Cup

Starman was impressive on reappearance winning the Group 2 Duke of York Stakes, taking his record to 4 wins from 5 starts. His only defeat came on soft ground so it was no surprise he was withdrawn when we’ll fancied in the Diamond Jubilee last month. This looks a very good renewal but I’m backing this Dutch Art colt to prove himself Group 1 class here with more potential to come compared to some his rivals. WINNER

Jamie –

3:15 – Superlative Stakes (G2) – Selection: Native Trail

Charlie Appleby has won this race for 3 of the last 5 years and fields another leading contender in Native Trail. The son of Oasis Dream couldn’t have been much more impressive when winning at Sandown as expected on debut. This is a big jump up in class obviously but Charlie usually runs one of his top 2yo Colts in this race and Native Trail looks to have a big chance. It probably looks to be a slightly underwhelming renewal of the Superlative and that is reflected in the betting with the third favourite Great Max at 8/1 at the time of writing. Dhabab brings the best form to the table curtesy of his Coventry sixth when he was a little unlucky. He is the big danger and the horse to beat. WINNER

4:25 – Darley July Cup (G1) – Selection: Oxted

The defending Champion Oxted heads a quality field of 19 runners for this year’s July Cup. Roger Teal’s stable star is facing a stiffer task than 12 months ago and will have to be better than ever if he is to claim back to back triumphs. Things didn’t exactly go to plan for Oxted after his win here last year, with a trip to Saudi Arabia not working out. After a couple of decent runs at Newmarket & York Oxted lined up for the King’s Stand at the Royal meeting. With a strong pace to aim at Oxted came good and flew home to beat Extravagant Kid. With a similar pace scenario likely this race could set up well for Oxted. The step back up to 6F will suit and so will this quick ground on a track he is proven on, he ticks a lot of boxes. The younger 3yos Starman & Dragon Symbol are big dangers, while Glen Shiel looks overpriced to me. 3rd

Ascot – Good, good to soft in places

4.45 Handicap – Class 2 – 3yo Only – 1m 4f…..
Dhushan – Sea the Stars X Causa Proxima Colt.

4 career starts. Debut nose runner up spot last September at Goodwood in a 1m Class 2 Maiden. Off for 200 days before returning at Doncaster & a step up in trip to 1m 2f in a Class 5 Maiden on March 27th, finishing 2nd again by 1 & 1/2 lengths.
Another step up in trip to 1m 4f on his 3rd start on April 24th in a Class 4 Novice Stakes at Haydock, winning by 3 lengths before making to 2 wins on the trot at Musselburgh last time out on June 5th in a 1m 4f Class 3 Handicap, from an opening mark of 85, returning a 1 & 3/4 length winner. Has been raised 7 for the win & now runs from 92, which could be on the lenient side…
DANGER – Mystical Dawn – Sea the Stars X My Spirit gelding.
1 win from 4 starts with 2 runner up spots. Win was on debut over 1m at this course last October. Had a run in Meydan in February before Stepped up to 1m 2f at Nottingham in a Class 5 Novice Stakes, finishing 2nd to Nagano by 2 & 1/4 lengths.
He stepped up in trip last time out to this distance (May 22nd) on Handicap debut at Haydock, finishing a 3/4’s of a length 2nd to Classic Lord from a mark of 86. Now runs from 90 & like Dhushan, could be ahead of the mark…

York – Good, good to soft in places

4.05 John Smith’s Cup – Handicap – Class 2 – 3yo Plus – 1m 2f 56yds…
Astro King – Kingman X Astroglia 4yo colt.

1 win from 3 runs this term, the win came at Nottingham on seasonal return on April 7th, in a 1m Class 3 Handicap, beating Finest Sound by a short head.
A runner up spot followed at Thirsk in a 1m Class 2 Handicap on May 1st, by 3/4’s of a length. He finished runner up on his last run at Royal Ascot in the 1m Royal Hunt Cup Class 2 Handicap by 4 & 3/4 lengths to Real World, from a mark of 98, which he can run from today before being raised 4 to 102 after this race. Up in trip…. Unplaced

Charlie –

1.50 Bet365 Heritage Handicap

Dubai Honour – 3 year old Gelding out of Pride Of Dubai and Mondelise. Has ran just the 5 times in total has relatively low mileage on the clock and plenty of room for improvement. Has won just the once so far and has finished 2nd on one occasion as well, the win came at Haydock on the 26th September 2020 when beating Oman by 2 and 1/2 lengths over 1m 37y. Was beaten a nose into 2nd place in the race prior to that win by State Of Bliss at Chester over 7f 27y. Most recent start was at Ascot on the 17th June this year when finishing 4th some 2 and 1/2 lengths behind winner Perotto over 1m. Having been lightly raced, still has plenty of room for manoeuvre and is taken to get back Into the winners enclosure today, main danger to the selection comes in the shape of King Frankel who has a similar profile.

.

3.35 Tattershall Falmouth Stakes (Group 1)

Alcohol Free – 3 year old Filly out of No Nay Never and Plying, has raced 6 times winning 4 times and placing 2nd once. The wins have came at Newbury when making debut on the 15th August 2020, Newmarket on the 26th September 2020 when beating Miss Amulet by 1/2 length in the Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes. Beat Statement by a short head in the Dubai Duty Free Stakes at Newbury on the 18th April this year. More recently won the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot on the 18th June when beating Snow Lantern by 1 and 1/2 lengths. Alcohol Free has beaten several of today’s rivals before and should run her race again, biggest threat comes in the shape of Mother Earth who finished 3rd behind the selection at Ascot.

Chris –

3.35 Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes

I put up Alcohol Free to win the Guineas this year, sadly she didn’t quite enjoy the run of the race there and just finished outside the money. She made up for it with a classy win in the Coronation Stakes at the Royal meeting over this trip, where she made stylish headway to see off several of today’s rivals. Back on better ground today I can see her resume progress and add another Group 1 to her collection for the in form Andrew Balding yard.

.

Ascot (going good to soft)

4.00 Wave Goodbye To Pain Handicap.

I’ve followed Tinto for a while, who remains well handicapped after a return to to form recently. The biggest issue with this gelding is the stalls, he has regularly been slowly away before running on to make the frame. It’s a risk, but if he puts it together today he could make all the beating at a decent each way price, especially with the useful Saffie Osbourne claiming 5lbs.

.

2:25 – Duchess of Cambridge Stakes (G2) – Selection: Hello You

A field of eight go to post for this informative Juvenile Fillies contest with the Albany form three weeks ago put under the spotlight. My selection Hello You was runner up in the Albany behind Sandrine. The margin that day was 1 ½ lengths on heavy ground. Over the same trip on good to firm ground I think Hello You can make her presence felt and should get closer to Sandrine today. At the prices Ralph Beckett’s Filly makes more appeal on a sharper track which may suit Hello You better than her Ascot conquerer.

3:35 – Falmouth Stakes – Selection: Primo Bacio

On paper this looks to be one of the best Falmouth Stakes for quite a number of years. The classic generation appear to hold the aces with the top four in the betting all being three year olds. I was impressed with the way Primo Bacio won at York last time out and I think she is capable of taking this step up to the top level in her stride. The form has worked out well from that York race with runner up Creative Flair winning next time out in a Newbury listed contest, while the reaposing Snow Lantern was left five lengths behind in third. Obviously since then she has ran a cracker in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot. Primo Bacio still has untapped potential with just the six races under her belt. She needs to find between 4-6lbs to really have a chance of winning but I think coming here a fresh horse is an advantage and I like her. The horse to beat is Alcohol Free, while Mother Earth always runs her race. Saffron Beach may be worth an each way play.

Rich –
