It is named after a cottage that the 12th Earl of Derby rented a few years previously and the race was first run in 1779. It is usually run in the first or second Friday in June..
The first winner of the Oaks was Bridget, who was owned by the 12th Earl of Derby and ridden by Jockey R. Goodison, she was trained by Mr Saunders, with 12 runners went to post on the first running of the Oaks…

The Oaks has been run away from Epsom on two separate occasions and that was during the first & second world wars when the race was held at Newmarket.

The first Jockey to win both the Oaks & Derby in the same year came in 1789 by Sam Chifney Sr…

Last years race was run on July 4th due to Covid19 Pandemic.
