Interview Questions and Answers
Q.1 – How did you get into Horse racing?

A.1 – My interest started by going pony racing every weekend with my brother, I don’t come from a racing background so it was my 1st time getting up close to thoroughbreds.

Q.2 – What is your 1st memory of Racing?
.
A.2 – I haven’t really got many early memories of racing, but I used to love watching harchibald run, he was a character !
.
Q.3 – Can you describe a normal day at the Yard, compared to a Racing day?
.
A.3 – I get up around 6,start work at 6.30. I tack up my 1st lot and put him on the walker then I muck him out , I don’t like mucking out but it’s good to get the blood flowing when it’s quite cold in the winter and it also helps me keep my weight down and I do this for 3 more lots then I go home and have a nap and go to the gym or the racing school . On a racing day I ride out as normal and then drive to races some nights I’m home late which can be annoying when I’m up early the next day, because I’m quite tall for a flat jockey I don’t get to eat much on a racing day!

Q.4 – Do you set target’s each year?

A.4 – No, I just take every day as it comes ! Then I’m not too disappointed at the end of the season!

Q.5 – Who is your racing hero?
.
A.5 – Johnny Murtagh, he was a brilliant jockey! When I was in the racing school in Ireland we used to see him run everyday in his sweat suit, just showed how dedicated he was!

Q.6 – Did you have a favourite horse? if so who?
.
A.6 – Frankel , he was just different class !
.
Q.7 – What is your Favourite Race Course & why?
.
A.7 – On the turf I love the newmarket course , mainly because it’s close to home ! But also a lot of my friends go racing there and I just enjoy riding in front of them.On the all weather I love Wolverhampton!It’s been a lucky track for me through the years!

Q.8 – How do you relax outside Racing?
.
A.8 – I like going boxing , after a stressful day in work or at the races it’s the best way to get rid of some anger !

Q.9 – What was your 1st winner & where?
.
A.9 – Kempton park on missing agent. It was for David Evans who I had started working for a couple days previously. I remember him telling me that if I messed up I’ll be on the 1st plane back to Ireland !

Q.10 – If you could ride any horse Past or Present… Who would it be?
.
A.10 – Frankel . He has the heart of a lion ! He also makes it easy for the jockey because of his ability.

Q.11 – What motivates you every day?
.
A.11 -The thrill of when you ride a winner !

Q.12 – Can you give us a couple of horses to follow for the season?

A.12 – Widnes from Alan baileys
