NewmarketWhat a Saturday we had….. Saxon Warrior is still unbeaten after landing the 2,000 Guineas…. Charlie Appleby had a romp on day one of the meeting and their was a 20 person brawl at Goodwood…. What ever next????? Let’s hope the people who run the meeting’s get a grip of these things, as it put’s racing in a poor light!

With day one of the Guineas meeting over, our Selection  for the 2,000 Guineas Elarqam finished 4th and with bookies paying four places, it seems we broke even on that Each Way selection….

Our Kentucky Derby Selection Mendelssohn ………Unfortunately finished last was bumped coming out of stalls and again at the bend never recovered from that and race was over literally before it started, although the winner done well considering the track was like a river of mud.

Now Charlie will fill you in with his Sunday Service and Saturday Results

Charlie -Where do I start with Saturday typical graveyard day with all 3 selections not performing as expected, results are listed below.

Le Torrent -Finished a disappointing 10th and was a loss.

Drinks Interval -Finished 10th and was another disappointing loss.

Equitation -Finished 5th and was another loss.

2018-05-06-11-03-36

Starplex -Won at Thirsk last time out over 1m 4f beating Tuff Rock by a neck with Archippos back in 3rd, has been raised 3lb for that success and another bold run can’t be ruled out here.

Win Advised

.

Minella Scamp -Has been banging on the door in recent runs without winning, although has been racing on unsuitable ground last few races and deserves a bit of luck, latest 3rd at Market Rasen over 2m 5f when behind Beggars Wishes and Remind Me Later with just under 4 length separating the 3. If handling the slightly better ground today could give Fergal Obrien and Paddy Brennan a welcome winner as they have a 40% strike rate when teaming up.

Win Advised

.

Kitaabaat -Lightly raced Dansili colt who won at Sandown over 1m in a Class 5 Novice race when last seen beating Sevenna Star and Delsheer. If ready to go after a short break could easily go in again here for Owen Burrows and with Jim Crowley doing the steering another bold run looks likely.

Win Advised

.Well that’s my thoughts on today’s selections, good luck if following and please remember to keep stakes small so it doesn’t hurt your pocket. I will now hand you back over to Rich for our 1,000 Guinea’s selection and Final word.

.

We have a Selection for the 1,000 Guineas….

Newmarket – 3.35 – 1,000 Guineas – Fillies’ Group 1 Class 1 – 3 year olds Only- 1m

2018-05-05-21-30-53.jpg

Laurens – Karl Burke’s Siyouni filly won 3 from 4 starts last season. Winning on debut at Doncaster over 7f in July. Went on to win again at Doncaster, when over 1m landing the Group 3 May Hill Stakes in September by a head from Dark Rose Angel. And won over C/D when last seen in October on Champions Day. Beating September by a nose in the Fillies’ & Mares’ Mile. Makes seasonal return and is OUR Each Way Selection.

Rich’s Final Word –

I only looked at two cards ….. Newmarket and Longchamp…. In France they are running Both Listed and a Group 3, yet only one UK/Irish trainer has sent a runner with Harry Bentley on board. And that is where I will start in Paris!

Longchamp Paris –

Shahnaza is owned by Aga Khan and trained by A. De Royer Dupre. having won on seasonal return the 3yo Azamour filly landed the La Torrent Listed contest over 1m 2f at St Cloud by 4 lengths and now goes in the 1.35 De La Seine Listed Stakes, Class 1 for 3 yo Only over 1m 3f. This is a 3rd career start and has Christophe Soumilion on board.

The Group 3 D’hedouville Stakes 3.20 – 1m 4f has a few decent runners but it would be foolish to write off Waldgeist. The Galileo 4yo Colt has been running in stronger Group races, although his last win was back in 2016 when landing the Criterium De Saint at St Cloud, a Group one contest. That was 5 races ago and his best finish was a neck runner up to Danehill Kodiac in the Cumberland Lodge stakes at Ascot in October. Finished a 2 length 5th to Air Pilot on seasonal return in a Group 2 and this is a marked drop in grade.

Now we head back to UK and the rest from Newmarket...

I napped this horse last time out on seasonal return…. Adamant, I am not going down the Adam Ant song titles route this time. After finishing 2nd by a neck , he steps up to 1m 4f in the Class 2 Handicap which kicks off the card at 1.50. First try at distance and maybe this time, he will Stand and Deliver! Sorry I couldn’t resist!

Elegant Pose for Ger Lyons runs in the 2.20 Dahlia Stakes, Fillies’ Group 2 1m 4f. Having finished 3rd on seasonal return at Naas in a Group 3, she will be looking to add to her 3 wins, including landing a Naas Listed race in 2017 from 5 runs and steps up in trip today…. The Danger could come from Wuheida, Charlie Appleby’s Breeders Cup Fillies’ & Mares’ winner, who makes seasonal return in this race.

and finally….. Lah Ti Dah(no I’m not singing!) 4.45 Pretty Polly Stakes , Fillies’ Listed Class 1 – 3yo Only – 1m 2f. The Dubawi filly comes into this race on the back of a stunning win on her race course debut, when landing a Newbury 1m 2f Class 4 Maiden by 6 lengths on April 20th and Frankie Dettori, said on ITV Racing yesterday, that this was his best chance of a winner at the meeting… If that is to be the case, he best keep a close eye on Qazyna, a Frankel filly, who improved from her debut 3rd to win on seasonal return at this course, landing a Class 4 maiden by 3 & 1/2 lengths on April 18th and now steps up in trip…..

Thank you all for popping by and reading our blog. After racing, this evening we are publishing another instalment of Rising Stars, this weeks interview is with Phillip Dennis!

I hope you will all join us for that, possibly released around 7.30pm…..

Thanks for your Support

All the Best – Charlie & Rich
