Let’s start with Charlie’s Selection’s and his house keeping for Thursday…..

Charlie’s Selections

2018-05-05-10-56-09

Le Torrent -Hadn’t been seen since May 2016, until 21st March this year when making a winning return at Kempton over 1m 7f in a Class 6 handicap. Was then sent to Lingfield in April and won a Class 5 handicap over 1m 7f. If transferring that all-weather form to turf could be hard to catch.

.

Drinks Interval -Has finished 3rd twice and placed 4th once from last 4 starts. The first of those 3rd places came at Wincanton over 1m 7f in a Class 4 Novice Hurdle back in December last year, was then sent to Kempton in April this year and again was 3rd over 3m in a Class 4 Handicap Hurdle. Latest run was at Ayr when 4th over 3m in a Class 2 Handicap Hurdle. That form looks solid and another bold run could be on the cards today to give Colin Tizzard another winner in what has been a fantastic season.

Equitation -Lightly raced was 3rd on debut at Hamilton over 6f in August last year. Was then sent to Doncaster and won over 6f in a Class 5 Maiden, plenty winners have came from that race subsequently, next run was at Yarmouth in a Class 4 handicap over 6f and won again. Looks a lovely sort for Roger Varian and another bold run could be on the cards today.

.Well that’s my thoughts on Today’s selections, good luck if following and please remember to keep stakes small so it doesn’t hurt your pocket.

2,000 Guineas – Newmarket – 3.35 – Group 1 Class 1 – 1m

Elarqam – Mark Johnston’s 3 year Old Frankel Colt is unbeaten in 2 career runs. A winning 7f debut at York in a Class 3 on September 10th by 3 & 3/4 lengths was followed on September 28th by the Group 3 Somerville Stakes at this course. Taking the step up in class with ease, when landing the odds from Tip Two Win by 2 & 1/4 lengths. Elarqam is bred for these kind of races, with sire Frankel winning the 2,000 Guineas in 2011 during his 14/0 career. While his Dam Attraction was the first Filly to win both the English and Irish 1,000 Guineas in the same season back in 2004. She also landed the Coronation Stakes, Sun Chariot and Matron Stakes in her Career. A perfect blend for this race… We hope so! Elarqam is OUR Eachway Selection.

Kentucky Derby – Churchill Downs(Dirt) 11.50pm Grade 1 – 3 year olds only – 1m 2f

Mendelssohn – Aidan O’Brien’s Scat Daddy Colt qualified for this after winning the UAE Derby in devastating fashion from Rayya by 18 lengths on the dirt in Meydan. having already won on his seasonal return at Dundalk. The Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf winner has improved from his 2 year old form and can land the Ballydoyle master this prize from Stall 14. With his long stride and high cruising speed, he will look to avoid the scramble to the rail and stay wide. Ryan Moore is on board. And is OUR Selection.

Rich’s Final Word –

With all eye’s on Newmarket, I took a chance to look at Goodwood, who have TWO listed Fillies’ races. Starting at 2.05, 1m 4f Fillies’ Listed Stakes.

What a Home has only had 4 career starts. She finished 3rd in her first two starts before landing a Class 4 – 1m 4f maiden in July. Last seen in September when winning a Class 2 Handicap at Doncaster(1m 4f) by 1 & 1/2 lengths. The Lope De Vega 4 year old filly, has G. Mosse on board for William Haggas, who is 8/28 in the last 2 weeks…. The Danger could come from Sir Michael Stoute’s Mori, who is a course Listed winner last season before finishing runner up to Coronet in the Ribblesdale. Finished the season unplaced in her two final starts and has had a wind operation during the winter.

The other Fillies’ Listed race is at 3.50. Run over 1m …..

Shenanigans is a C/D winner last August in a Class 3 Handicap from Lincoln Rocks before taking a 1m class 3 handicap at Newmarket. Having already had a run this season when landing a Kempton(AW) Fillies’ Listed stakes by 2 & 1/4 lengths from Hunaina on April 7th.. Dangers could come from Lincoln Rocks, who goes well fresh and Nyaleti, who runs from bottom weight.

And now we turn our attention to Newmarket….

Sharja Bridge runs in the Spring Lodge Stakes, Class 2 over 1m 1f at 1.50. Having broke the maiden tag at the 3rd attempt over 1m 75y at Nottingham in a Class 5 maiden in August. Finished the season as runner up at Sandown in a 1m class 3 handicap . Season return…. Danger – Another Eclipse, who after winning a Class 5 1m 2f Brighton maiden in July, finished 2/3/2 all in class 2 handicap and also makes seasonal bow……

The Palace House Stakes, Group 3 run over 5f see’s Havana Grey(2.20) run from bottom weight on seasonal return. Last seen finishing runner up to Heartache in Doncaster’s Flying Childer Group 2 back in September. Last season’s duel Listed winner also won a Group 3 at Goodwood when beating Invincible Army…..

Defoe looks the one to beat at 2.55…..

That is everything today folks. Thanks for popping by, we really appreciate your support.

All the Best – Charlie & Rich
