2:25 – Whispering Angel Oak Tree Stakes (G3)
Selection: Benefit (Each way)
Benefit looks to be one of the quicker Fillies in this race and I am hoping that she can power home late on and nick a place. My selection has been running mainly over 6F this season and has been giving the impression lately that a step back up to 7F is worth another shot. Benefit was well beaten on her sole attempt at today’s trip at the start of the season when she pulled too much in the Fred Darling at Newbury. It was a good run at York last time out when Benefit stayed on well to finish a close enough sixth in a G3. The form has been boosted by the third Gale Force Maya winning since. With a strong pace likely and Ryan Moore in the saddle I am confident she will give us a good run for our money. Another horse I must flag up at an each way price is Allayaali who is very interesting on her seasonal reappearance.
4:10 – European Breeders Fund EBF Fillies Handicap
Selection: Sea Speedwell
This looks to be a competitive renewal of this class 2 handicap over 1m 2f. Sea Speedwell has done little wrong in her career to date and gets the nod from me today. Sea Speedwell is a thrice raced daughter of Sea The Stars who got off the mark at the second attempt last December at Kempton over a mile. Despite being perhaps a bit ring rusty on her first outing of 2022, Sea Speedwell ran with great credit to finish second last time out in a novice stakes at Leicester. You would like to think that she will come on a lot for that run and there is seemingly more improvement to come. The nice ground will suit ideally and Marquand will have her close to the pace. Big chance in my book.

2.25 Oak Tree Stakes – Fillies’ & Mares’ Group 3 – 3yo+ – 7f…
Heredia – Dark Angel X Nakuti 3yo filly.
2 wins from 2 starts in her debut season 2021 at Windsor & Newbuty.
made her seasonal return at York in a 7f Class 3 Handicap, opening mark was 91, on May 22nd winning by a short head. She followed that up at Ascot in June by winning the Sandringham Fillies’ Handicap by 1 length from Zanbaq from a mark of 98.
Her last start was on July 2nd at Sandown in the 1m Fillies’ Listed Distaff, when finishing 3rd to Grande Dame by 4 & 1/4 lengths.
I would draw a line through that & now drops to 7f from 1m…

1.50 Goodwood, 1m4f Handicap 3yo (0-105)
A typical race of it’s type with plenty of horses at the top of the weights in form and quite a few at the bottom just waiting their turn to reach a winning handicap mark.
Previous course form is always worth plenty on the Sussex Downs and with that in mind I’m quite drawn to the Charlie Hills trained Inverness.
A winner over 1m in September last year he has taken a few runs to come to hand as a 3yo, 6th first time out at Epsom in April’s Classic Trial he returned to handicap company at Royal Ascot where he was 10th in the King George V Stakes before trying a staying trip back at the Royal course earlier this month over 1m6f where he finished an honorable third.
I think the return to Goodwood plus a nice draw up the inside in stall one will help and if some of the favoured horses struggle and sulk before fading then he should give ew punters a good run for their money.
