Chris –

3.40 Hardwicke Stakes

Connections of Wonderful Tonight will have been delighted to see the recent rain, given this fillies form in testing conditions. She ended last term with a pair of Group 1 wins, including here in the Fillies and Mares race over this trip. Her form in soft/heavy is second to none and has won her last 4 starts when running on desperate ground. This is as competitive a Group 2 as you are likely to see, but she has the clear form chance and must run well here. WINNER

4.20 Diamond Jubilee Stakes

Glen Shiel landed me a lovely touch on the Champions Day blog when winning the 6f sprint at 18/1 last Autumn. Like my previous tip, the ground has come right for this Pivotal gelding and he ran well on reappearance at the Curragh last month, finishing 4th. At the time of writing he remains a fair each-way price but I’m expecting his odds to shorten the closer we get to post time. You should get a great run for your money here and look out for extra place terms from bookies If she remains a good price. RUNNER UP

Jamie –

3:40 – Hardwicke Stakes (G2) – Selection: Ilaraab

This looks a high class Hardwicke Stakes and it will take some winning, especially on testing ground. I’m going to take a punt on the very progressive Ilaraab who acts on soft ground. This son of Wootton Bassett is on a roll having won all his seven races to date including last time out on his first race of the 2021 flat season at York. He will have to step up his form as he hasn’t won above class 2 level but it is the style of his latest victory at York that really caught the eye, he surged clear in taking fashion over today’s trip and unlike quite a few lining up against him he has further improvement in him. William Haggas really thrives with this kind of horse and he will Ilaraab ready to run a huge race today. Ground, trip and track hold no fears. Japan at around 16/1 looks a cracking potential each way play. UNPLACED

4:20 – Diamond Jubilee Stakes – Selection: Dream of Dreams

The rain softened ground isn’t a concern for Dream of Dreams, who looks to make it third time lucky in this 6F Group 1. Sir Michael Stoute’s son of Dream Ahead has been agonisingly denied in this race the last two years just being edged out by Blue Point & Hello Youmzain. As I said before he acts well on soft ground and has posted arguably his career best performance at Haydock when he won the Sprint Cup last September on soft ground. In his prep run Dream of Dreams won nicely at Windsor and that will bring him along nicely for this race. He ticks a lot of boxes. The big dangers are Starman under Oisin Murphy and the progressive Nahaarr, while Glen Shiel loves soft ground and has won over course and distance. WINNER

Each Way…- UNPLACED
