Charlie –
4.20 Coronation Stakes
Selection – Potapova (Each Way) – 3 year old filly out of Invincible Spirit and Safina. Has only had 2 career starts and won both, beginning with a 6 and a 1/2 length victory over Natural Value at Chelmsford on the 26th November 2020 over 7f. Was sent to Redcar for most recent run on the 17th May this year and beat Fire In Rain by 8 lengths over 7f. Although this is a bit of a step up in class connections won this race with Potapova’s Grand Dam back in 2003 and another bold display can’t be ruled out. Biggest threat to the selection comes in the shape of Mother Earth who won the 1,000 Guineas and was 2nd in the French equivalent. UNPLACED
.
5.35 Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes
Selection – Aaddeey (Each Way) – 4 Year old Gelding out of New Approach and Feedyah. Aaddeey has had 5 career starts winning twice and placing in the other 3 races. Was beaten 3/4 of a length on debut at Goodwood by John Locke over 1m 1f 197y. Was then sent to Nottingham for 2nd race and made every yard a winning one when beating Winter Thorn by 2 and 3/4 of a length over 1m 2f and 50y. Was sent to Yarmouth for next start and finished 3rd some 3 and 1/2 lengths behind winner Opera Gift. Was then sent to Newbury on the 18th April this year and finished a 3/4 length 2nd behind Flying Solo over 1m 2f. More recently was sent to Newmarket on the 13th May and won, beating Rodrigo Diaz by 4 and 1/2 lengths over 1m 4f. Biggest threat to the selection comes in the shape of Quickthorn who won at Haydock last time out.

Chris –
3.05 King Edward VII Stakes
Alenquer has made a very favourably impression during his short career to date. He was a fair 2nd at listed level as a 2yo and stepped up on that when taking the Classic Trial at Sandown this spring. The form of that race is clear for all to see and he arrives here with leading claims today in what doesn’t appear the strongest of renewals on paper. WINNER
3.40 Commonwealth Cup
Suesa is unbeaten in 4 starts to date, latterly in a pair of Group 3 sprints in France this campaign without being fully stretched. This Night Of Thunder filly has thrived on a slower surface so far, so more rain would only boost her chances. She has not been missed in the betting but could prove to be a top sprinter in time. At a bigger price it’s worth a small each-way interest in Sacred who returns to 6f after failing to stay a mile last time. She has smart form as a juvenile over 5/6f and was placed at this meeting in 2020. UNPLACED

Jamie –
4:20 – Coronation Stakes (G1) – Selection: Pretty Gorgeous – UNPLACED
This looks to be one of the races of the week as the cast include the winners of the English, Irish & German 1000 Guineas. All three, Mother Earth, Empress Josephine & Novemba hold strong claims. However, despite a below par performance in the Irish 1000 Guineas I am going to side with Pretty Gorgeous, who’s trainer Joseph O’Brien said she would need the run quite a lot last time out. The losing margin was only just over three lengths though and with natural progression from that race she should be bang there on all known form. Let’s not forget she is a Fillies Mile winner! Soft ground wouldn’t be a worry as she won the Debutante at the Curragh as a 2yo on that kind of ground. She holds a big chance under Frankie Dettori. German raider Novemba is a great each way punt in my eyes, she won her classic in Germany very well indeed and is the highest rated horse in the field.
5:00 – Sandringham Handicap – Selection: Pomelo
A brutally tough puzzle to figure out as seen in the fact that the field is 10/1. There are many in here with solid chances and Pomelo for the Ralph Beckett team makes some appeal given that she may be well handicapped on her potential. Pomelo’s journey began at Newbury last July where she won her Novice Stakes very comfortably. A below par effort in a G3 at Goodwood followed, perhaps not handling the track at the Sussex venue. Pomelo rounded off 2020 with victory in a Wolverhampton Novice. Obviously she will need to step up her form considerably but I have a hunch that she will run a big race here for her supporters. Soft ground would be a concern if the rain does come but her dam Emulous did win twice on soft going. Off a handy weight I fancy this Juddomonte owned horse to sneak into a place.
Each way advised.
Rich –
