Charlie & Chris will be back for a huge day on Saturday but today Rich is joined by Jamie (aka @Glen_Colt) & we take a look at some of the races as the prelude to Saturdays Breeders Cup Turf & Classic!

Jamie –

8:10 – Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf –
Selection: Battleground

The Europeans hold a strong hand in the Juvenile Turf with Royal Ascot and Group One victors in the mix and one of them is my pick here, Battleground. Aidan O’Brien’s Colt is by War Front out of 2015 Turf heroine Found, so he certainly boasts a nice pedigree for a Breeders Cup contender. After chalking up an impressive win in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot Battleground cemented his position as one of the top two year olds in Europe by powering to victory in the Vintage Stakes at Goodwood. That Group 2 win over 7F was the last time we have seen Battleground in public. An injury ruled him out of Irish Champions Weekend, Aidan decided to give him time and bypassed options at Newmarket & Doncaster to get him ready for this race. He comes into this race fresh which I think is a big plus. Gate 9 isn’t an ideal draw but Ryan should be able to find a midfield slot and hopefully the gaps will appear in the home straight. The trip and ground hold no fears. Battleground holds strong claims to get Europe on the board!

8:50 – Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies –
Selection: Vequist

Vequist enters this hot looking Juvenile Fillies on the back of an unlucky second last time out at Belmont. She was caught in a pocket and couldn’t get out in time to trouble the winner Dayoutattheoffice. She proved her class for Grade One level on her previous race in the Spinster Stakes when she bolted in 9 & 1/2 lengths under Luis Saez. Joel Rosario takes over in the saddle today seeking a tenth Breeders Cup winner. The daughter of Kentucky Derby hero Nyquist hasn’t been drawn too badly in gate two and she looks the value against the favourite and well touted Bob Baffert inmate, Princess Noor.

9:30 – Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf –
Selection: Editor at Large (e/w)

A full field of 14 go to post for the Juvenile Fillies Turf. I don’t have an obvious selection for this race so I’m hunting for some value. Editor at Large appeals to me for American turf king Chad Brown and this is his only runner in the race, perhaps a sign of the faith he has in this Filly? We will see. She has some two lengths to make up on Plum Ali from a Grade 2 at Belmont four weeks ago. That was a good effort from a Filly with only one previous run and you can guarantee that Chad Brown will have her firing on all cylinders for this test. Editor at Large is drawn widest of all in gate 14 so she will need a lot of luck. If she gets it though I think she can bag a place here at double figure odds.

BC Final Word with Rich –

I have 3 races for you to kick off the weekend…

6.50 Alliance Stakes – Grade 2- 3yo Plus – 1m 5f…

Danny California –
Unbeaten in his last 3 starts, with2 wins over 1m 1f (9f) before stepping up to 1m 4f (12f) last time out on September 18th, when landing a stakes race at Belmont by 1 & 3/4 lengths. Up in trip & Grade….

Danger – Ry’s The Guy – A 5 length winner last time out over 1m 4f (12f) at Churchill Downs

8.50 Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies’ – Grade 1 – 2yo Only – 1m 110yds…

DayoutoftheOffice –
Unbeaten 3 from 3 having won a 4 & 1/2 f maiden at Gulfstream in May before landing the Grade 3 Schuylerville 6f Stakes on her 2nd start in July.
Made it 3 from 3 on October 10th at Belmont in the Grade 1 Frizette Stakes (Fillies’), 1m, when beating Vequist by 2 lengths…

10.15 Breeders Cup Juvenile – Grade 1 – 2yo Only – 1m 110yds…

Jackie’s Warrior –
Another unbeaten horse, JW is 4 from 4 and has never been headed. A front runner, who hasn’t seen another horse. A winner of 2 Grade 1 races including the Run Happy stakes in September & on October 10th landed the Champagne Stakes, both over 1m (8f) at Belmont, beating Reinvestment Risk in both Grade 1 races, the latter by 2 lengths.
There is theory that Classier, could go from the front & try and eye ball JW, which would leave them in a duel and if that happens it would allow Reinvestment Risk to come from off the pace & pick up the pieces…

Thanks for popping by folks…. A full squad available to choose from on Saturday, so don’t miss on on a MEGA blog!

Good Luck – Rich & Jamie
