Hello and welcome to Arseonlineracing. This website is 100% independent & has NO affiliate links, curated by 2 racing enthusiasts from either end of the British Isles.
Charlie hails from Glasgow while Rich is from the Isle of Wight, miles apart but united by the sport of kings….
It was a good return for us yesterday, having 3 winners & 3 places from the 6 selections between us.
It’s Rich with you today as Charlie has taken the day off!
It was also a sad day for British racing, with the last time we will see Enable running at a UK race course before she retires after running in the Arc at Longchamp on the first Sunday in October, looking to make history winning 3 Arcs.
That race will also be the last run from Stradivarius, who like Enable, has been a complete superstar of British racing for the last 4 years. These horses should be lorded as the stars they are but British racing seem devoid of ideas on how to get them to the greater publics attention! This is a travesty…. & will continue to be so until they are given a bigger platform or advertised in such a way they can capture the greater populations imagination…..
ITV has done a great job of trying to get the nation interested but you have to think why the BHA do not have a plan along with their commercial partners to promote the industry and the Superstars outside of the usual rounds, while the Racing Post, seem to be at times more interested about the bad side of the sport & promoting their bookies interests than pushing the BIG guns to the fore, along with constantly pushing the price up, making the publication unaffordable to many younger folk, who are showing an interest….
I hope this may change but I won’t be holding my breath!
Enough of my ramblings, it’s time to talk about the fantastic card we have in France at Longchamp, including the Group 1 Prix Du Moulin, which every runner is a Group 1 winner…..
The going is Good to Soft at Longchamp…..
12.25 Prix La Rochette Stakes – Group 3 – 2yo Only – 7f….
Naval Crown – Dubawi x Come Alive colt.
3rd by 1 length on July 10th in a 7f Newmarket Class 3 Maiden before finishing 3rd on July 25th at Ascot, when stepping up to Listed class. He was 3 & 1/2 lengths behind winner Childit that day, with that race producing 2 Listed winners since, Cobh (2nd) & St Lawrence (4th) before landing a win of his own on his 3rd start on August 21st in a 7f York Maiden in impressive style by 4 & 1/2 lengths. James Doyle has headed to France to ride for Charlie Appleby & will also team up with Pinatubo (3.25)…
2.50 Le Coupe De Maisions Laffitte Stakes – Group 3 – 3yo Plus – 1m 2f….
Bungle Major – Mizzen Mast x Conference Call 5yo Gelding.
Debut win here over the extended 1m 2f (96yds) back on debut in April 2018 by 1 & 1/4 lengths in the Juigne Stakes before heading to Chantilly in May 2018, finishing a 3/4’s of a length winner in the Mont Pagnotte Stakes (1m 2f 96yds). Has had issues since, along with being gelded, if connections didn’t think he still retained all his ability, he would have been retired.
Made his long awaited return on August 11th in the 1m 2f Logis Stakes at Deauville, when finishing a short head runner up…..
3.25 Prix Du Moulin De Longchamp Stakes – Group 1 – 3yo Plus – 1m….
Where do you start in a race that all 6 members of the field are Group 1 winners….. You start with the only last time out winner…
Pinatubo – Shamardal x Lava Flow 3yo Colt. Unbeaten 2yo.
Joint Top Rated 120 & has age for weight reduction, carries 8s 12Lb.
As mentioned, he is the only last time out winner in the field having won the 7f Group 1 Prix Jean Prat on July 12th at Deauville from Lope Y Fernandez, who has since finished 3rd in the Group 1 Prix Maurice De Gheest.
He has run twice over 1m this term, finished 3rd by 1 length to Kameko in the 2,000 Guineas on seasonal return on June 6th at Newmarket before finishing a 1 length runner up in the St James’ Palace Stakes (Group1) on June 20th to Palace Pier, who boosted the form when landing the Group 1 Prix du Haras de Fresney – le-Buffard-Jaques-le- Marios & then won the Jean Prat on July 12th….. Likely to be in the mix at the end.
Circus Maximus – Galileo x Duntle 4yo Colt.
Joint Top Rated 120. Carries 9s 3Lb. Winner of this race in 2019.
Landed this race by a short head last year from Romanised(118). In his 3 starts in 2020, he has finished 1st by a short head in the 1m Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes at Ascot on June 16th, 2nd to Mohaather by 3/4’s of a length on July 29th in the Group 1 Sussex Stakes at Goodwood before finishing 3rd to Palace Pier by 5 & 3/4 lengths at Deauville on August 16th, with the ground on the very heavy side, which is not his favoured conditions, Romanised (Holy Roman Emperor x Romantic Venture 5yo colt) finished 5th that day & like Circus Maximus can be very hit & miss at times, having won the Curragh 7f Group 2 Minstrel Stakes on season return on July 18th. Romanised also carries 9s 3Lb. Tough ask for both.
Siskin – First Defence x Bird Flown 3yo Colt. Rated 119. Unbeaten 2yo.
Started 2020 by stepping up from 6f to 1m on season return in the Group 1 Irish 2,000 Guineas on June 12th at the Curragh, winning by 1 & 3/4 lengths. Headed to Goodwood on July 29th in the Sussex Stakes, finishing 3rd by 1 & 1/4 lengths, with Circus Maximus a 1/2 length in front. Has had a month off & goes well fresh.
Persian King – Kingman x Pretty Please 4yo Colt.
Landed his Group 1 win on July 19th at Chantilly in the 1m 1f Prix D’ispahin by 2 lengths from Stormy Antarctic. Like many of the runners (Palace Pier the exception) didn’t like the very heavy ground when finishing 8 & 3/4 lengths to Palace Pier in Deauville on August 16th. The 2019 Prix Du Jockey Club runner up ( 2 lengths to Sottsass) won’t mind the ground and has no issues with the distance despite carrying 9s 3Lb and is likely to be in the mix in the final stages.
And the final runner in the race….
Victor Ludorum – Shamardal x Antiquities 3yo Colt. Unbeaten 2yo.
Won 3 from 3 over 1m as a 2yo. Lowest rated in race at 105. Carries 8s 12Lb
Finished a 4 & 1/2 length 3rd of 5 to Mishriff on August 15th, on very heavy round in the 1m 2f Group 2 Prix Guillaum D’ornano Stakes. Was also a 2 length 3rd to Mishriff in the 1m 2f Prix Du Jockey Club at Chantilly on July 5th. He was a beaten 3rd on seasonal return ( May 11th) by The Summit over C&D on very soft ground before reversing the form in the 1m Prix Des Poulains by 1 & 1/2 lengths on June 1st. 3 wins from 4 runs over 1m. Drops back from 1m 2f. No ground issues. Big Player.
Persian King stays over the distance, Victor Ludorum is 4/5 over distance. Pinatubo & Siskin are around the same level.
Big ask for Romanised & last years winner Circus Maximus.
My personal opinion is that Victor Ludorum, Pintubo, Siskin & Persian King will fight out the finish, with a 3yo winning the race!
That is everything for you today folks…. Thanks for popping by & for your support… Remember to keep stakes small or just watch the fantastic racing on the TV.
All the Best – Rich
