Welcome to the last day of our Royal Ascot coverage. As we enter the final furlong of the meeting, we have some fantastic Group races, possibly saving the best till last?
Golden Horde looked fantastic today winning the Commonwealth Stakes and Clive Cox has a very nice horse on his hands and the Lir Jet( Tipped by Jamie) flew home to land the Norfolk Stakes for Michael Bell.
Frankie was his usual jovial self when landing the Hardwicke Stakes on Fanny Logan and when he said ‘ I love my Fanny’ as he dismounted in the winners ring, causing ITV Racing presenter Ed Chamberlin to turn in to a giggling teenager for a few minutes!
It has been a fantastic 5 days of top class racing, albeit with no crowds to greet the winners on their way back, the Queen, sat watching the coverage at home instead of all the pomp & Ceremony. Racing has done it’s self proud, not just this week but since June 1st when it resumed & we would like to Congratulate Everyone, who has played their part in Getting racing back on, not only showing the nation but the world what can be done….
Here is the Arseonlineracing mini league of Royal Ascot – After Day 4
Rich –11 tips – 3 wins – 2 Places – 6 Unplaced
Charlie – 10 tips – 1 win – 3 Places – 6 Unplaced
Jamie – 12 Tips – 2 wins – 3 Places – 7 Unplaced
Same order as the previous 4 days, Charlie, Jamie & Rich, all socially distancing …..
1.15 Queen Mary Stakes Group 2 for Fillies ran over 5f.
More Beautiful -Trained by Aidan O’brien and is out of War Front x Maybe. More Beautiful has raced once and won at Naas on the 8th June when beating Roses Blue by 3 and 1/2 lengths over 5f. Aidans horses normally come on from 1st run and see no reason why More Beautiful would be any different. She looked a decent horse and has several gears in the locker, will definitely land some nice races.
3.35 Diamond Jubilee Stakes Group 1
The Tin Man -Although The Tin Man last won on the 8th September 2018 in a Group 1, when holding off the attention of Brando to win by 1/2 length. The Tin Man won this race back in 2017 when beating Tasleet by a neck. Was disappointing when last seen at Ascot on the 19th October last year when finishing a well beaten 13th. That was his 5th race of the season and is now 7 so that result isn’t that alarming, considering he was 2nd at Haydock in race prior to that when going down by 1/2 length to Hello Youmzain who he takes on again today. The Tin Man should fair better today and because of that defeat here last year is priced accordingly at an Eachway Price of 12-1 at time of writing and could easily outrun those odds to grab a place at least.
4.40 Queen Alexandra Stakes Class 2 over 2m 5f and 143y
Who Dares Wins – Has been a difficult horse to follow with only 4 wins from 23 on the flat. However stays longer than your Mother in law at Christmas and should run his race regardless. Biggest dangers come in the shape of The Grand Visor and Nate The Grate who should push the selection all the way to the line.
It has been a slow and steady week for me with my selections. The Lir Jet bagged a nice win for me yesterday, so let’s hope for another winner today to end the meeting on a high note!
3:00 – St James’ Palace Stakes – Selection: Wichita
Possibly the most anticipated renewal of this race since Frankel’s win in 2011. It’s a rematch from the 2000 Guineas as Witchita & Pinatubo lock horns once again. There didn’t seem to be any excuses for Pinatubo’s defeat in the Guineas and I am inclined to think that Wichita beat him fair and square on the day. Of course, Pinatubo could improve a lot for the run and regain the winning thread here but so to could Wichita.
I also think there is still more improvement to come from the Ballydoyle Colt. The track I think will really suit this horse, Ascot is a stiff mile, even more so on soft ground. Witchita can use his stamina reserves late on and claim a big victory.
3:35 – Diamond Jubilee Stakes – Selection: Hello Youmzain (NAP)
I have always had a real soft spot for this horse. His sire Youmzain was a terrific horse, 3X runner up in the Arc de Triomphe. Anyway, Hello Youmzain proved himself one of the top sprinters in the land as a 3yo, winning the Haydock Sprint Cup in great fashion. Kevin Ryan’s charge is ground versatile, however that Sprint Cup win on soft
ground was a career best performance so far. He also ran a big race over C+D in the Commonwealth Cup last year when third.
Hello Youmzain does tick a lot of boxes and if he is near his best then he can give the favourite Sceptical something to think about.
4:10 – Wokingham Handicap – Selection: Angel Alexander (E/W)
It’s always an impossible race to solve is the 6F Wokingham, so it’s better off having an each – way punt if you want to take a chance in this race. One horse that stands out for me at 20/1 (current odds at time of writing) is Angel Alexander, last years Ayr Gold Cup victor.
Tom Dascombe’s sprinter has had plenty of racing already in 2020 as he has been running at the Dubai carnival at Meydan. Angel Alexander wasn’t quite in form out in Dubai but still wasn’t beaten all that far in a Group Two by King’s Stand runner up Equilateral. He is a nice horse who has winning form on soft ground. With plenty of pace
to track, Angel Alexander will be produced late for one big run. I think he has a cracking e/w chance.
Final word with Rich –
Not quite how I expected yesterday to go but sadly that’s racing for you… Bumper lot from myself today & a squeak at a big price in one of the sprints!
12.40 Silver Wokingham Stakes Handicap – Class 2 – 3YO Plus – 6f…
Blue Mist – Ran just 8 days ago in a Newmarket Class 2 7f Handicap, finishing a 1 & 1/4 length 2nd and now drops back in trip. This makes it interesting as he has never run over this distance, running over 1m & 7f and is able to run from the same mark of 95.
The danger could come from Swindler, who was 5th in the same race on June 8th & is 2 from 2 over C&D!
1.15 Queen Mary Stakes – Group 2 Fillies’ – 2YO Only – 5f…..
Pelekai – Kodiac Filly, who made a winning debut at Newcastle in a 5f Class 5 Maiden by 1/2 a length from Mamba Wamba, who is also in the field. Her speed time is slightly faster than that of Dandalla, who won yesterday, having run on the same day at Newcastle!
1.50 Coventry Stakes – Group 2 – 2YO Only – 6f –
Admiral Nelson – Aidan O’Brien won this last year with Arizona & he & Ryan Moore combine again. The Kingman Colt was an impressive winner on debut in a Curragh 5f Maiden, finishing strongly to win by 1 length on June 12th & now steps up in trip…
The DARK HORSE could well be Igotatext from Archie Watson, he won over 6f on debut in a Lingfield Class 5 Maiden on June 5th by 1 & 1/4 lengths. The Ajaya Colt posted a very fast time that day & i am hoping he can run like that again & out run his BIG odds!
I put up Quadrilateral( 2.25 Coronation Stakes) in the 1,000 Guineas & Pinatubo ( 3.00 St James’ Palace Stakes) for the 2,000 Guineas and I see no reason to change my mind!
That is a wrap folks, no cavier and champagne but Chicken & lager….
Thanks for popping by… Thanks to Jamie for a cracking week…. Here’s to next time!
Only bet what you can afford to lose…. If not just watch the top class racing on the TV….
All the Best – Charlie, Rich & Jamie.
