We have reached the final Saturday blog before Christmas and before we get on with todays thoughts, we would just like to say Thank You to you all for reading & wish you all a very Merry Christmas. We would also like to thank Jamie – AKA @Glen_Colt & Chris Price for their hard work and contributions to this site in the last 12 months. We would also like to say thank you to Fran Altoft for the kind use of her fantastic photos….
As usual when we blog, Charlie will lead the way & Rich will have the Final Word….
Haydock – 2.05 – Big Shark – Has won both starts since finishing 2nd in a point to point race, won over 2m 7f at Worcester, before winning again over 3m 2f at Hereford when beating Mr Muldoon by 10 lengths. Carries a penalty for those wins but jocks claim wipes out 5lb and that could be instrumental for his chances of a follow up.
Ascot – 3.00 – Kildisart -Has been in fantastic form winning 3 times from last 5 runs dating back to December last year at Ascot. Won at Cheltenham on next start after that Ascot win, over 2m 5f when seeing off Highway One O One by 2 lengths in January this year. Was then a 10 and 1/4 length 4th behind Defi Du Seuil at Cheltenham over 2m 3f and 168y in March. Was then sent to Aintree stepping up in trip to 3m 1f and won again beating Mr Malarky by 5 lengths in April before being rested. Made seasonal return at Carlisle in November and finished 3rd over 2m 4f some 11 and 1/4 lengths behind winner Lostintranslation. Steps back up in trip to 2m 7f and 180y for todays race and another bold display can’t be ruled out.
Thurles – 3.05 – Silver Sheen -Has won last 2 starts, beginning with a 2 and a 1/2 length victory over Mc Alpine at Wexford over 2m 4f in October. Won again on next start at Thurles over 2m 6f and 216y when beating Allez Dance by 6 and 1/2 lengths with Royal Thief a further 6 and 1/2 length behind Allez Dance in 3rd. Faces Royal Thief again today and should confirm places with that rival once more in a slightly deeper race. Trainer Mrs J Harrington has a 21% strike rate at Thurles and another bold display can’t be ruled out.
Well that’s my thoughts on today’s Selections, good luck if following and please remember to keep Stakes small so it doesn’t hurt your pockets. I will now hand you back over to Rich for the Final Word.
Due to delay in deciding if racing goes ahead today my writeups will be updated later as Rich has a race at Lingfield at 12.55 and we don’t want to have to replace that race. Sorry for any inconvenience….
