So the day has finally arrived… Yesterday we said farewell & Thanks to Laurens and today is it Enable. Enable will attempt to create history at Longchamp and win a 3rd Prix De L’Arc De Triomphe at 3.05 and we have covered most of the card..

Longchamp racetrack

Rich will open the card and Charlie will finish it, which is a change to our usual blog, so lets hope it works….

Longchamp – Very Soft…

1.15 Prix Marcel Boussac… Fillies’ Group 1… 2YO Only… 1m…

Savarin…. The only C&D winner in the field who landed the Group 3 Prix D’Aumale by 3/4’s of a length on September 8th. Having previously won by 1 & 1/2 lengths on race course debut on the all weather at Deauville back in August…..UNPLACED

1.50 Prix Jean- Luc Lagardere…. Group 1… 2YO Only… 1m….

There are 3 runners in the race with unbeaten records with 2 wins from 2 and 2 of the 3 have won over C&D. Here are the 3…
Chacknak… Rated 94, who won over 7f on debut at Lyon – Parilly and when stepping up in trip to 1m on September 5th over C&D.
Victor Ludorum… Won over C&D on September 1st by 3 & 1/2 lengths and won again at Chantilly, again over 1m by 3 & 1/2 lengths on September 14th…
Ecrivain… Won by a head on race course debut in August at Deauville in a 1m maiden and again over C&D when taking the Group 3 Prix Des Chenes by 1 length on September 8th….
Add to the mix Top Rated 109 Armory, who has 3 wins from 5 runs and has landed Group 2 & 3 races in Ireland. Was last seen chasing Pinatubo home by some 9 lengths in 2nd in the Group 1 National Stakes and is now going up in trip.
And not forgetting Helter Skelter, who landed a 1m Deauville Listed race on Soft Ground by 3 & 1/2 lengths and has won here over 7f again on Soft ground…
THE VERDICT… I think Victor Ludorum wins with the others mentioned filling the places….. WINNER

3.05 Prix De L’Arc De Triomphe….. Group 1…. 1m 4f…..

Enable… The 2 time Arc winner bids for an historic third. Having won at Chantilly in 2017 and retained her crown last season, despite only having one run on the all weather in the September Stakes at Kempton. She managed to beat Sea of Class by a nose. This season she has had a full season, winning 3 from 3 and beating Magical in 2 of them, who was runner up. The draw is not important, in my opinion, but for the sake of facts. Enable is drawn in stall 9 and the last horse to win from that stall was Urban Sea, Dam of Galileo & Sea the Stars. Enable is Top Rated 128 and this is her last race… RUNNER UP

The best of the rest….
Japan….  has 3Lb on Enable, due to his 3YO weight claim and won his maiden on Heavy ground. He is the winner of the Grand Prix De Paris(Group 1) over C&D in late June having finished 3rd in the Derby at Epsom at the start of that month. His form ties in with Enable via Crystal Ocean, who Japan beat in the International Stakes at York by a head on August 21st…
Sottsaas…. Like Japan, has 3Lb age for weight allowance and is also a C&D winner having won the Prix De Jockey Club(Group1)in June and won the Group 2 Prix Niel by 1 & 1/2 lengths on September15th….
Waldgeist… 4th in last years race to Enable and was a 2 length 3rd to Enable at Ascot in the Queen Elizabeth Stales(Group 1). The 3 time C&D winner landed the Prix Foy on September 15th…

I have Enable winning & 3 of the 4 mentioned above filling the places….
Waldgeist, Enable, Sottsaas & Japan your 1st 4 home!

Now Charlie will take you through the rest of the card…..

3.55 Prix De L’Opera Longines (Group 1) for Fillies and Mares

This could be a real battle between the 3 A P O’brien runners and the 2  John Gosden runners. A P O’brien saddles Pink Dogwood in stall 8, Goddess in stall 6 and Fleeting in stall 12. John Gosden saddles Mehdaayih in stall 3 and Terebellum in stall 9. Goddess appears to be O’briens best chance in this race having placed 2nd in two Group 2 races at the Curragh over 1m 1f and 1m 2f. Has also won a Group 3 at the Curragh on the 19th August Christophe Soumillon takes the ride. Frankie Dettori has opted for Mehdaayih of John Gosdens runners, but I think he has picked the wrong horse here and Trebellum who has only ran 3 times starting with a win in a Class 4 Maiden at Goodwood over 1m 2f on the 23rd May, when beating Maamora by 4 and 1/2 lengths. Was sent to Newbury for a Class 1 Listed race over 1m 2f on the 13th June and finished 3rd behind Antonia De Vega. Latest run saw Trebellum win the Group 2 Shadwell Prix De La Nonette at Deauville on the 17th August beating Mutamakina by 1 and 3/4 lengths. Trebellum having less miles on the clock and a progressive profile should take this race and the current 2nd favourite ticks a lot of boxes with Mickael Barzalona taking the ride, however Mehdaayih and Goddess should fight it out for minor places.

Selection Trebellum Eachway – UNPLACED

4.30 Prix De L’Abbaye De Longchamp Longines (Group 1)

This is another tricky race Battash is the one to beat on from having won this race in 2017,Battash has also won 3 times from last 4 starts and has his army of followers waiting to strike. A P O’brien has 2 runners here Fairyland in stall 9 and So Perfect in stall 1 both demand respect having finished 1st and 2nd in the Group 1 Flying Five Stakes at the Curragh on the 15th September, Glass Slippers has won last 2 runs including a listed Race at Deauville on the 4th August when beating Bravo Sierra by a short head. Latest win came at Longchamp in a Group 3 on the 15th September beating Shades Of Blue by a short neck. Now back to the O’brien runners and although there wasn’t much between them in the Flying Five Stakes and I feel the going may see a reverse of that with So Perfect getting revenge today.

Selection So Perfect Eachway – RUNNER UP

5.05 Qatar Prix De La Foret (Group 1)

This is another fascinating contest and on 1st glance looks to be between last year’s winner One Master who attempts to be the first horse since Moorestyle to do the Foret Double, Moorestyle won in 1980 and 1981 and City Light who has the form to take the spoils here, having won last 2 starts at Deauville and Longchamp. Christophe Soumillon takes the ride on City Light. Frankie Dettori is on board Safe Voyage for John Quinn who has won 3 times this year and placed 3rd in last 2 starts in Group 2 company at the Curragh and Newbury over 7f. My preference Is for City Light to take the spoils here with One Master and Safe Voyage filling the other 2 places.

Selection City Light – RUNNER UP

Thank you for all popping by & we hope this helps you today.. Yes it will be emotional… We all want History!

All the Best – Charlie & Rich
