Hello and welcome to arseonlineracing. A 100% independent racing website that has NO affiliate links. This website is curated by 2 racing enthusiasts from either end of the British Isles. Charlie hails from Glasgow while Rich is from the Isle of Wight… Miles apart but united by the sport of kings…
We have a busy days racing ahead of the Bank Holiday weekend with Goodwood, Haydock & Curragh amongst the plenty of meetings up & down the UK & Ireland…
We also welcome @Glen_Colt Aka Jamie who is covering the first day at the Curragh and will be sandwiched between Charlie & Rich, as he always has the Final Word!
A quick recap of yesterdays thoughts before we get under starters orders…
Charlie – Game Player was 2nd Sangarius was 3rd and Arlecchinos Arc was 6th.
Rich – Full Authority (Unplaced) Dee Ex Bee (Winner) Elwazir (Unplaced) Sangarius (Placed 3rd)
Right lets get them in the stalls and ready for the off….
Charlie – Goodwood 5.10 All Back To Mine 11-2 – Won over 6f at Brighton in September last year beating Riverwing by 2 lengths. Finished 9th at Lingfield in next start over 6f. Was then sent back to Brighton stepping up in distance to 7f and finished 6th. Was then put away for the winter before making seasonal return at Brighton on the 1st May and finished 2nd over 5f beaten 3/4 of a length by Pink Flamingo. That last race wasn’t a disgrace as wasn’t beaten far. Can gain compensation here with a similar display and is today’s 3b.
Worcester 7.10 Bold Record 2-1 – Debutant for Nicky Henderson who is nicely bred being out of Fame And Glory and Shop Dj. Nicky has a 31% strike rate with unraced 5yr olds over hurdles and at the price available at time of writing seems fair for debut run and is today’s Nb.
Pontefract 8.30 Never Be Enough 3-1 – Seemed to lose action at Beverly on the 25th April over 1m 2f when finishing 8th. Made up for that on the 17th May at Hamilton, when dropping back in distance to 1m and won beating Four Kingdoms by 1/2 length. Has a 5lb penalty for that win and steps back up in trip to 1m 2f 5y today. If handling the extra weight and step back up in distance could still get involved and is today’s Nap.
Well that’s my thoughts on today’s selections, good luck if following and please remember to keep Stakes small so it doesn’t hurt your pocket. I will now hand you over to Jamie for his coverage of the action at the Curragh.
Jamie (@Glen_Colt) –
Curragh… Good to Firm..
4:55 – Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden (2yo) – 6F
Ryan Moore may have chosen Precious Moments over Tango but the No Nay Never Filly can make it a winning debut. If she is like her Sire, then she will love the fast ground. Royal Affair could be the e/w selection here with young Shane Crosse in the saddle for Joseph O’Brien.
5:25 – Irish Stallion Farms EBF Marble Hill Stakes (2yo) Listed – 5F
Ger Lyons might have another good horse on his hands in Siskin who won cosily on debut. He beat second favourite Harpocrates at Naas and should confirm that form. My selection should take all the beating in this five-runner listed contest.
6:00 – Extra.ie Spring Fillies Handicap (3yo) – 1m
Selection: Fire Fly
In a competitive but tricky Fillies’ Handicap my vote goes to Fire Fly, who ran well in a 1000 Guineas trial at Leopardstown. She looks a tricky sort but this is a very good opportunity for her to register a win. Joseph O’Brien’s Vallambrosa stayed on well the last day and looks to be a bit of value if you are taking on the favourite, Fire Fly.
6:35 – TRM Excellence in Equine Nutrition Handicap (4yo+) – 7F
Selection: Verhoyen (e/w)
Mick Grassick’s Verhoyen ran a good race last week at Naas despite a hike in the weights. Off a similar mark he should be right in the mix for the places. Jaassar is less exposed and showed his ability in fine style at Limerick last month. He is the potential improver in this field and is a worthy favourite.
7:05 – Kerrygold Gallinule Stakes (3yo) – 1m 2f
On a slight recovery mission, I fancy Buckhurst to make it into the winners enclosure again. The son of hot sire Australia was a disappointing fifth in the Derrinstown after a good debut win. Although, I feel that he is still improving and that the stiffer track of the Curragh will really suit him. He should go well. Jim Bolger has always held Bold Approach in high regard and he could be the main danger to my selection.
7:35 – K Club Maiden (3yo) – 6F
Selection: Gee Rex
Bringing the best form into this race, Gee Rex should be up to what is needed to win this uninspiring maiden. He stayed on well last Sunday to finish fifth in the G3 Lacken Stakes. If you’re looking for some value then Super Treat looks to be the bet. He’s on better terms than Royal Court (his Leopardstown conqueror) and should be right there on all known form.
8:10 – Curragh Grand Opening Handicap (4yo+) – 1m
Selection: Editorial (e/w)
The lucky last! Hopefully you will have had a couple of winners by this stage. Anyway it might be worth taking an each way punt on Editorial who has been given a chance by the handicapper on his return. Trainer Patrick Twomey is in red hot form with 4-7 from the last 21 days. Passing Trade and Encantador should be in with a squeak as well.
