Hello and welcome to arseonlinetips. A 100% independent racing blog, with no affiliate links in sight and no fee to pay to read our thoughts… This website is run by 2 racing enthusiasts from either end of the British Isles, Charlie hails from Glasgow, while Rich is from the Isle of Wight. Miles apart but united by the sport of kings!

It’s good to be back after what has been a nice week away from racing. We decided after our exploits in the Breeders Cup and Melbourne Cup to finish some work that had been a work in progress all season… Enable – History Maker was published this week and on Sunday, we will publish our Review of the 2018 Flat season… It also gives us some welcome time with our family’s and refocus our minds as we head into what could be a cracking National Hunt season!

I am sure most of our regular readers know what to expect from our racing blogs and today is no different… Charlie will have his Saturday Selections while Rich will have the Final Word…. So let’s get starting before we have to take a turn!

Charlie –

Capeland -Trained by Paul Nichols has finished 2nd in all 3 Chase starts this season, over distances from 2m to 2m 6f. Capeland seems to flail in closing stages of his races and is partnered with Bryony Frost and her 3lb claim may be enough to get Capeland in front today.

Win Advised

Monsieur Co -Previously with Paul Nichols but was sold for £21,000 and is now in the care of K Dalgliesh. Had only won the once in seven races prior to being sold and although is still young enough at age 5, has slipped down the ratings and could figure with B Hughes doing the steering today.

Win Advised

Buzz -Has won 3 times in last 6 starts over distance of 1m 2f to 1m 4f. Was dropped back in distance to 1m 2f last time out at Newbury after not seeing out the 1m 6f at Nottingham prior to that win. Has been raised 5lb for that win and has a wide draw to contend with here, but a return to 1m 4f looks an interesting choice and a bold show looks likely.

Win Advised

Well that’s my thoughts on today’s selections, good luck if following and please remember to keep stakes small so it doesn’t hurt your pocket. I will now hand you back over to Rich for the Final Word.

Final Word with Rich –

Thanks Charlie, it was nice to just have a break away from the cards to refresh the mind set and to have a break from betting. That said it’s nice to be back to as the National Hunt season picks up another gear…. Let’s see what I have for you today…

Naas.. Good to Yielding..

12.30.. Poplar Square Chase.. Grade 3.. 2m..

Footpad was last seen routing the field at Punchestown when landing the Grade 1 Ryanair Novice Chase by 12 lengths in April, having previously swept the field aside in the Arkle Chase at Cheltenham in March. Went unbeaten with 5 wins from 5runs since making chase debut last November and makes seasonal return. I fear my Tracker will have to wait another day but will come on for the run. Footpad makes season return and should make it 6 wins from 6 chase starts!

Aintree.. Good to Soft..

2.10.. Thoroughbred Retraining Centre Hurdle… Class 2.. 2m 4f..

Unowhatimeanharry won this race last season on seasonal bow and connections start in the same place this season, but will be hoping for better as Unowhat was last seen some 15 lengths behind Penhill in the Stayers Hurdle at Cheltenham in March. The multiple Grade 1 winning hurdler has since had wind surgery and makes seasonal return….

The DANGER could come from Wholestone was last seen in April finishing 22 lengths behind Call Me Lord in the Grade 2 Select Hurdle at Sandown. Lil Rockerfella was 2nd that day& behind Wholestone was Diakali, who have both had a fantastic start to their Chase careers winning all 3 starts respectively to date… This looks a cracking race!

Wincanton.. Good to Firm..

2.25 Rising Stars Novice Chase.. Grade 2.. 2m 4f 35yds..

Bags Groove.. Harry Fry’s 7yo Oscar gelding was a 3/4 length runner up on Chase debut back in May over 2m in a C3 Beginners Chase at Uttoxeter. Made seasonal return on October 20th when landing a C3 2m 4 Novice Chase at Ffos Las from Jester Jet…

The DANGER could come from Paul Nicholls chasing debutant Secret Investor, the 6yo Kayf Tara gelding has won his last 3 over hurdles including the Grade 2 Persian War, 2m 4f hurdle by 2lengths from Double Treasure on seasonal return, having had a wind operation in the summer and now tries the bigger obstacles for the first time!

3.00 Elite Hurdle.. Grade 2.. 1m 7f 65yds..

We have a Dream… The 4yo Martaline gelding won the Grade 2 Doom Bar Juvenile Hurdle when last seen at Aintree in April by 7 lengths from Gumball, that was his 5th win on the bounce since making is UK debut a year ago today at Warwick. He carries a penalty for that win on his seasonal return….

The DANGER could come from… If the Cap Fits… Harry Fry’s 6yo Milan gelding has won 3 on the trot since finishing a 2 &3/4 length 3rd to Lalor in the Grade 2 Bumper at Aintree last year. Was last seen winning a Class 2 Novice Hurdle over 2m at Kempton by 5 lengths from Diese Des Bieffes and makes seasonal return….
