Breeders Cup World Championship

Hello folks, this is part two of our Breeders Cup Specials. Yesterday was a fantastic day, with 3 winners on day one and a few places, so hopefully we can land a nice touch again today….

Charlie’s Finding’s

3.15 Audible -Has won 4 times and placed 3rd twice from last 6 starts all wins have came over 1m ,with 2 wins at Aqueduct and 2 at Gulfstream. Placed 3rd last time out here on slop over 1m 2f to Justify. The conditions should suit more unless more rain arrives and can’t really see anything trouble Audible here.

4.00 Marley’s Freedom – Has won last 4 starts since finishing 2nd at Santa Anita back in March. Has won well in each of those races and arrives here in great shape looking to add another victory for trainer Bob Baffert. Biggest threat comes in the shape of Selcourt who has won last 3 starts and has a similar profile although has raced against lower graded horse’s.

6.04 Sister Charlie -Hasn’t been out of the first 2 places in 8 runs and brings some quality to the table for this race. Was 2nd in last year’s running of this race and has kept it’s form well since and should be thereabouts again and if repeating form shown so far this season can gain compensation for last year’s 2nd place.

8.16 Abel Tasman 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Nap won two races before poor showing last time out when finishing 5th, although has been reported that horse had a virus and that run can be forgiven. If fully recovered from that should have too much for this field but biggest danger comes in the shape of Monomoy Girl who is undefeated in 5 runs but Monomoy Girl has a wide draw to overcome and that could decide hinder her chances.

Well that’s my thoughts on today’s races from Churchill Downs I will now hand you back over to Rich for his Finding’s.

Rich’s Finding’s

4.00 Fillies’ & Mares’ Sprint… Grade 1… 7f..

Selcourt has been off the track for 224 days and was last seen back in March landing a Santa Anita 7f Stakes race from Marley’s Freedom. John Sadler will be hoping his Tiz Wonderful filly can make it 4 wins on the bounce, having won her last 3.

But Bob Baffert will hope his Blame filly, Marley’s Freedom can land this prize. She is unbeaten in 3 runs since finishing behind Selcourt in March and landed the Grade 1 Ketel One Ballerina over 7f last time out on August 25th…

4.38 Turf Sprint.. Grade 1 … 5f 110yds..

Stormy Liberal won this race last season and is back to defend his crown. He has won his last 3 races including last time out when taking the Eddie D Stakes 6f 110yds at Santa Anita…

I do like a good namesake and here we have Richards Boy, runner up in this race last season and was rescued from the California wildfires earlier this year. Understandably  his form dropped but having finished runner up to Stormy Liberal at Santa Anita and was runner up again last time out in a Santa Anita 5f Stakes contest….

6.04 Fillies’ &Mares’ Turf… Grade 1.. 1m 3f..

Charlie Appleby landed this race last season with Wuheida and saddles Wild Illusion this year, who comes in to the race on the back of winning his last two starts. Landing the 1m 2f Nassau Stakes at Goodwood before travelling to France to land the L’Opera at Longchamp by 1 length from Magical, who looks to be Aidan O’Brien’s pick of his two runners…

But another from Ireland has caught my eye.. Eziyra for Dermot Weld, who has won 2 of her last 3 runs. She was last seen winning the Moyglare ‘Jewels’ Stakes at the Curragh having previously finished 3rd to Sea of Class in the Yorkshire Oaks at York….

8.16 Distaff… Grade 1.. 1m 1f..

Monomoy Girl is unbeaten 5 from 5 and was last seen in September when landing the 1m 110yds Cotillion Stakes in Philadelphia by a neck from Midnight Bisou…

But it would be unwise to rule out Abel Tasman. Bob Baffert’s charge was runner up in this race last season. This season has won the Ogden Phillips Stakes(Fillies’) at Belmont in June and followed up with taking the Personal Ensign 1m 1f Stakes at Saratoga . Well below par last time out at Santa Anita…

20.56 Breeders Cup Turf… Grade 1.. 1m 4f…

Can Enable become the first Arc winner to land the Breeders Cup Turf? They are 0 from 8 tries and Enable is the latest in the line to have a try. John Gosden’s Nathaniel filly won the Arc on the back of just one run having had a pipe opener when landing the September Stakes, Group 3 at Kempton(AW) before landing back to back Arc’s by a short head from Sea of Class and she will improve for that run. She is unbeaten in 8 runs, which dates back to April 2017 when 3rd in a Newbury Class 3 Conditions Stakes…. On form, she should win!

Of the rest… Waldgeist finished 1 & 1/2 lengths behind an unfit Enable in the Arc having won 4 on the bounce prior to that race and the Galileo colt accounted for fellow French runner Talismanic by 2 & 1/2 lengths when landing the Foy Stakes Group 2 at Longchamp in September…

21.44 Breeders Cup Classic… Dirt… Grade 1… Grade 1.. 1m 2f..

It’s best to start with the trainer, who has won 4 of the last 5 running’s of this race – Bob Baffert, who saddles Mckenzie. He had been touted for the Triple crown last year but fell to injury. The Street Sense 3YO Old colt won on return after 169 days away in Philadelphia by landing their Derby by 1 & 3/4 lengths…

Accelerate saw off West Coast when the two met at Santa Anita in a 1m 1f Stakes race in September to takes the 5YO Looking at Lucky horse’s account to 5 in a row, trainer John Sadler will be looking to make it 6….

While Catholic Boy has won his last 3 runs and accounted for Aidan O’Brien’s Mendelsshon in the Travers at Santa Anita. Mendelsshon has been campaigned in the USA and the Scat Daddy colt has had this race as a target all season. He finished 3rd last time out to Discreet Lover in the Gold Cup at Belmont on September 29th….

Of the European raiders….

Roaring Lion signs off today and has been unbeaten in his last 4 runs since finishing 3rd to Masar in the Derby. He dropped back from 1m 2f to the mile to land the QE II at Ascot on Champions Day and the Kitten’s Joy colt should be ok on the dirt, having won on the All Weather at Kempton early in his career…

Thunder Snow has only finished out the first 3 once this season, when last to Roaring Lion. The Godolphin 4YO Old Helmet colt won the Dubai World Cup last March and finished runner up last time out in a Belmont Park Grade 1 to Discreet Lover in the Gold Cup & his Dirt from is pretty good with 4 wins 3 places from 8 runs….

That’s all for today folks, we hope we have helped you out…

All the Best – Charlie & Rich
