Ascot

On Wednesday we made a Slight Return and we found the Fools Gold! Hello and Welcome to arseonlinetips, a racing blog brought to you from either end of the United Kingdom OR from Glasgow to the Isle of Wight…..

There are some fantastic racing today but on the other side of the coin, some 8 meeting’s and we simply cannot cover all of them. We have covered some of them….. It’s a standard blog with Charlie’s Selection’s and Rich’s Final Word, so let’s get going!

Charlie’s Selection’s –Ā

.Most of Gallipoli’s form is on the all-weather but has won on turf twice. Was 2nd at Newcastle in February over 7f in a Class 2 Handicap. Lingfield was next on the agenda in March and again Gallipoli raced over 7f in a Class 2 Apprentice handicap finishing 3rd. Next up was a spin around Goodwood in May over 7f in another Class 2 handicap finishing 6th. Was then sent to York in June and finished 7th in another Class 2 handicap over 7f. Most recent was 2nd at Newcastle over 7f in another Class 2 handicap, races off the same mark now switched back to turf and if repeating the form of latest 2nd at Newcastle should be enough to take this race.

.Has ran well last 3 starts at Newmarket in Class 2 company finishing 3rd in them all. Drops slightly in grade here and yard also have White Desert entered here as well. Alqamar looks less exposed than most of these and should be able to make the drop in Class pay dividends here for C Appleby.

.Has won twice and placed 2nd twice from last 5 starts, was a tad unlucky not to win last time out at Yarmouth only going down by 3/4 length to Kassar front pair were well ahead of 3rd placed Protected Guest who was almost 6 length further adrift. If repeating that run from Yarmouth it would be more than enough to take this race for J Gosden.

Well that’s my thoughts on today’s selections, good luck if following and please remember to keep stakes small so it doesn’t hurt your pocket. I will now hand you over to Rich for The Final Word.

Rich’s Final Word –Ā

I decided to take an In depth look at Ascot & Newmarket, for which I made 6 pages of notes in my Leger, yes I still use a book! I have a fair bit to get through, so we best get under starters orders….. And…ā€¦ Were off!

The 2.15 at Ascot is a nice 6f 2yo Only Novice Stakes and is a class 3 contest. Dirty Rascal, an Acclimation Colt, who was a 3 & 1/4 length runner up on 6f debut at Windsor on June 11th to Dunkeroon, has since won a class 3 & finished 3 lengths behind Advertised in the July Stakes yesterday. I do have to also mention a newcomer however and that is Marhaba Milliar, a Kodiac Colt for John Gosden and a half sister to Queen Kindly…ā€¦.

Next up is the 4.35 class 3 Handicap, also run over 6f and Simon Crisford has a very nice Kodiac colt called How Far. He has won his last two runs including a last time out 3/4’s of a length win at at Nottingham, when stepping up from Class 5 to 4 and winning by 3/4’s of a length. It’s his win at Windsor on June 11th that is nice form, with the runner up winning next time out as well as the 3rd. Certainly the one to keep a close eye on!

Over at Newmarket, we have some fantastic Group races and I will start with the 2.25 Duchess of Cambridge Stakes, fillies’ Group 2 for 2yo Only over 6f…. Main Edition, a Zoffany filly for Mark Johnston is unbeaten in 3 starts(That’s the curse then!) all 3 wins over 6f and won the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot by a neck from La Pelusa. The pair go head to head again today, with La Pelsua looking to over turn the form on what is the Dandy Man’s fillies’Ā  3rd start for trainer Charlie Appleby after a debut 3 length Kempton(AW) win and the narrow defeat at Royal Ascot!

Splattered in between the Group racing are some nice Handicaps, the 3.00 is one of them. A class 3 for 3yo Only over 1m 2f. Wissahickson is 3 wins from 4 career runs and landed a class 2 handicap last time out at York from Beringer by 3/4’s of a length. Like our previous race, the pair go head to head again, so will John Gosden’s Tapit Colt get the better of Beringer, a Sea the Stars Colt for Alan King again or will the form be reversed??!

Back to the Group races now, with the 3.35 Falmouth Stakes, Fillies’ Group 1 over 1m and the short priced favourite Alpha Centauri, who has won the Irish 1,000 Guineas and won the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot last time out and is very much the one to beat… Out of the others, Nyaleti has also won her last 2 starts, including a Listed race in Germany before landing a Goodwood Fillies’ Listed race by 3/4’s of a length last time out and steps up in Class…..

And we are in the Final Furlong with another Class 2 Handicap(4.45) over 1m 6f….. I mentioned Alan King earlier and he runs Elgin, his 161 rated Grade 2 winning hurdler, who is 2 wins from 3 flat starts and makes his handicap debut today after winning a class 5 last time out. The opening mark of 98 may seem quite high but I think the 2m Grade 2 winner can go really well in this sphere and it is likely that mark will rise and soon he will have to be stepped up to Listed or Group Company… That said, he takes on Charlie Appleby’s Hamada, who is already a class 2 York handicap winner by 1 length from Crowned Eagle back in May and has had a month or so to rest…..
