Welcome to a Saturday edition of arseonlinetips, we are a 100% Independent racing blog, brought to you by 2 racing enthusiast’s from either end of the United Kingdom or From Glasgow to the Isle of Wight…..
It’s a big Saturday, with plenty of meeting’s to get through so it’s been quite busy at arseonline HQ…. Charlie brings his Saturday Selection’s and Rich always has the Final Word, today is no different but we have a Special Guest….. More on that later!
Charlie’s Saturday Selection’s –
.She was a nice looking horse last season although hasn’t lived up to expectations this term with two below par efforts thus far, however showed some promise in a couple of group races at Newmarket last season and based on that should be in the mix here if repeating that in this race.
.Has won 3 races from last 5 starts and looks overpriced here, won well last time out at Newbury over 1m 4f in a Class 3 handicap. Is unexposed at this trip on this going and even though is 6lb higher now, that may not be enough to halt his progress.
.Thats my thoughts on today’s selections, Good luck if following and please remember to keep stakes small so it doesn’t hurt your pocket. I will now hand you over to Rich as he introduces our Special Guest for today.
It is our pleasure to welcome a Special Guest today to our Blog, Lee McKenzie(@McRaces) from Talksport 2….. And the 3 of us give you our thought’s on the Eclipse!
Sandown – 2.10 – Eclipse – Group 1 – 1m 2f
Lee – Roaring Lion – I’m never keen on Derby winners dropping in trip (Masar), nobody knows what Saxon’s Warrior’s best distance is (and this race is an afterthought), while Happily and Hawkbill are best with a bit of cut. But Roaring Lion overstretched his stamina in the Derby, so the drop to 1m2f will be ideal – and he’ll be very effective on quick ground.
Rich – Forest Ranger – Won the Earl of Sefton on season return at Newmarket before landing the Huxley Stakes(G2) at Chester by 1 & 1/2 lengths. Richard Fahey’s Lawman Gelding deserves his chance at the top table & with Masar now a Non Runner he may just surprise a few!
.Has shown some great form most notably placing 2nd in a Group 1 race at woodbine back in September last year. Was then sent to Meydan and won a group 2 race before returning there to win a group 1 race both in March this year over 1m 4f. Was then sent to Epsom and was 5th in a Class1 Group 1 race over 1m 4f in June. Was then sent to Ascot 19 days later and finished 3rd in a Class1 Group 1 race over 1m 2f. Although hasn’t shown the form on UK soil for some time still remains a danger at this level and looks overpriced at the moment with 12-1 readily available at time of writing.
WE can also announce that this weeks Interview is with……. Lee McKenzie! Out on Sunday Evening!
Rich’s Final Word –
I only looked at Sandown and Haydock for today, there is just too much racing on a Saturday….. So let’s crack on with Sandown –
There is no better place to start than the opening race at 12.20, Sprint Stakes Group 3 over 5f and Judicial has been unlucky this season in this company, getting no run at all when 8th to Muthmir in the Achilles at Haydock before taking a drop to Class 3 company to win well. Previously had been Runner up to Mabs Cross in the Palace Stakes(G1) at Newmarket
Next up is Tajaanus(1.30) who was Runner up on season return in a Newbury G3 fillies’ before finishing 3rd in a Lingfield fillies’ G3. Was poor run at Royal Ascot in the Sandringham Handicap and now, in the Distaff Listed over 1m needs to bounce back!
And it’s a hop, skip and jump to Haydock now…
We will start with the Lancashire Oaks(Fillies’ Group 2) 1m 3f at 1.10 …. Horseplay is a Newmarket Listed winner from May last year before finishing a 1 & 1/2 lengths runner up to Coronet in York’s Middleton Stakes(G2) over 1 & 1/2 miles in May and that form is very strong… Coronet finished a short head runner up in a French Group 1 while 3rd placed Smart Call, has since won a Newcastle G3…..
And my final thought for Saturday is in the Old Newton Cup Handicap(1m 3f 175y) at 1.45.…. Heart rules head I think! Across the Stars was a well beaten 3rd in an Epsom Class 2 Handicap on Derby day but that form is quite strong, with Winner Dash of Spice winning again and 4th place has won twice since, including in Listed Company. Across the Stars had previously been a neck Runner up in a York class 3 Handicap… And now the Danger, which is possibly what my head thinks… Teodoro, who won last time out in a Class 3 by 6 lengths on good to firm ground(Like today) and the form on this going is unbelievable reading … 1/1/1/1/1 the DANGER is there for all to see!
That is everything for today… We would like to thank Lee for his selection and we look forward to publishing our Interview tomorrow evening….
Remember if you can’t afford to bet then please just watch the racing on ITV or At the Races…
All the Best – Charlie & Rich
