Welcome to a round up of the 4 days of our Cheltenham coverage…. We would like to start by offering our thoughts to those who lost horses during the festival, something nobody likes to see or hear about, it was a sad end to what had been a fantastic four days of National Hunt racing at Prestbury Park. As I mentioned this is a round up blog, where we will go through our thoughts from yesterday, so lets crack on with Charlie’s round up….
Charlie -Cheers Rich let’s have a look at Friday’s results before we recap on our performance over the 4 days,so without further adieu let’s crack on with Friday’s recap.
Flying Tiger -Unplaced
Santini – Finished 3rd
Theinval – Finished 4th
.Finished the week off without a win on the last day but my nap did place 4th at 16-1. So to recap on the week I sent out 13 selections with:
1 – winner
5 – 2nd placed
1 – 3rd placed
2 – 4th placed
1 – 5th placed
2 – Unplaced
1 – Pulled up
Not too bad only 3 horses from 13 sent not showing a return but it really was testing conditions this year. We hope you enjoyed our coverage of the Festival and will be back with normal service soon. I will hand you over to Rich for his recap of the 4 days.
Cheers Charlie, many places for you, luckily I managed to find a few winners prior to Friday. Apple’s Shakira was disappointing, I thought as my Nap of the week and having C/D form would see her come home in front, but it wasn’t to be having gone off far too hard and was looking around a lot. She didn’t have enough in the tank to finish up the hill as she had done previously and finished Unplaced. I very much believe that she will become a superstar horse, just like her sister Apple’s Jade and we will see that next season.
My Irish raider Whiskey Sour, went off at 7/1 and managed to slice through the field to finish a respectable 3rd and will certainly be a lot better next season and is one that will stay in my Tracker.
And my final thought, the other Nicky Henderson runner Santini, who is sired by Milan, a mud lark himself was unable to get himself in a position to challenge, having been kept in mid field through the race and the winner got away up the hill, despite running on Santini could only place 3rd.
Weeks Results –
3 winners – Shattered Love, Altior & Samcro
8 Places – Kalashnikov, Vintage Clouds, Monalee,Un De Sceaux Supersundae, Acey Milan(4th) Whiskey Sour & Santini
5 Unplaced – Jury Duty, Testify,Vision Des Flos, Mitchouka & Apple’s Shakira
Final Thoughts –
We would like to congratulate Richard Johnson, Colin Tizzard and his team on the Gold Cup success with Native River, it was a fantastic performance from them all Slightly soured by the fact the Champion Jockey was handed a 7 day ban and fined over £6,000 for excessive use of the whip. As someone, who has written about this previously, I think the ban is excessive and the fine very harsh(the amount) considering the fines and bans we saw during the week, Ruby Walsh was given TWO days for the same thing.
You also have to take your hat off to Harriet Tucker, who dislocated her shoulder during the race on Pacha Du Polder and replaced it herself, that is some feat, let alone to win the race too, yet she found herself in trouble with the stewards for using the whip above the required height and for her shoulder not being in the right position. Banned for 3 days! I mean really??? She had dislocated it during the race, put it back in… anyone who has had this problem before will tell you how painful it is. Sadly the stewards in this matter are way off the mark and have not applied common sense and are just being complete jobsworths and should take a look at themselves.
Yes rules are rules, but sometimes there are extraordinary circumstances and that should be applied if applicable….
A big thanks to everybody who has popped by or tweeted us, we appreciate your support.
Rich is taking the weekend off and will see you next week….
All the Best – Charlie & Rich
