Welcome to Day Two of the Festival, as they now call it…… We saw  some fantastic racing yesterday and let’s hope for plenty of the same today and for the rest of the week.

Lets start with a run through of our thoughts from yesterday –

Rich – Kalashnikov(2nd) – Vintage Clouds(Placed) Jury Duty(Unseated) and Testify(Unplaced) Not the best start to the week but also not the worst, knocking on the door and hopefully one or two will drop in sooner rather than later…

Charlie – Cheers Rich let’s kick things off with yesterday’s Results listed below

Kalashnikov -2nd

Gold Present – pulled up

Rather Be – 2nd

Two places from my 3 selections on day one, hopefully get a better run from my selections on day 2.

Charlie’s Day 2 Selections

2.50 – William Henry – Trained by Nicky Henderson, has won 3 times and placed 2nd and pulled up once from last 5 runs. Although pulled up when here last time In a Class 2 novice chase back in November last year, went to Kempton in January and won a Class 1 listed hurdle over 2m 5f. Wears headgear today and that’s a bit of a negative but may still have enough class to grab a place and at 8-1 is not a price to go crazy about. I also like Max Dynamite from the Mullins camp who could also go well here.

4.10 –Tiger Roll -Although was 5th here when last seen in December, should have learned plenty from that race and a chance is taken that today’s going will be more suitable, Stablemate Cause Of Causes will probably attract more punters but is not a price I would be willing to get rich from. Tiger Roll is 6-1 and almost twice the price of Cause of Causes and I’m hoping the bookies have this one wrong.

5.30 – Carefully Selected -Has placed 2nd and won 3 times from last 4 runs,  comes from the Mullins yard and I can’t believe the bookies have this as a 10-1 chance, surely with that kind of form it should be half that price even though all wins have came over the Flat Mullins is a very shrewd trainer and with Ruby Walsh on this I think a bold run is expected.

Well that’s my lot for Day 2 of Cheltenham let’s hope the racing god’s are kinder to us today, good luck with your bets and just enjoy the occasion.

Wednesday’s Thoughts –

Rich – I guess we should start with the opener and Samcro(1.30) in the Ballymore Novice Hurdle. Unbeaten from PTP to Grade 3 company and now put’s that record on the line, having won by 12 lengths at Leopardstown last time out. An interesting Each Way option could be Vision Des Flos, who won an Exeter Class 1 listed race on return from a Wind Operation by 31 lengths and was 4th over C/D prior to Operation….

On to the RSA Chase at 2.10 and followers will know I have been with Monalee, since she went chasing and won a Begginers CHase over 2m 6f at Punchestown. Yes she fell at Leopardstown on her next start but put that behind with a fine round of jumping back at Punchestown to win a Graded contest by 3/4’s of a length from AL Boum Photo and the step up to 3m’s is perfect. Black Corton, will be a big danger having won 5 of the last 6 runs.

And now to the feature race of the day, Queen Mother Champion Chase(3.30) where Champion Trainer Nicky Henderson saddles Altior, who had a problem earlier in the week but cantered yesterday and it’s all system’s go for the 3 time Grade 1 Chaser. Back with a bang when landing a Newbury Grade 2 contest on return from a Wind Operation on February 10th, if all’s well should win but if not you have to keep a close eye on Willie Mullins pair Min & Douvan(we all need last season’s Douvan) either could spring a surprise if Altior is not 100%

The Fred Winter(4.50) another I have been following is Mitchouka, having previously paced in Grade 2 & 3 contest’s in Ireland, landed back to back wins including alst time out in a Grade 3 at Fairyhouse by 2 & 1/4 lengths.

And Finally the Champion Bumper(5.30).…. Acey Milan is a course winner I have noted since finishing runner up on debut in October. Won a 1m 5f C1 Listed NH Flat race at this course in January before stepping up to 2m at Newbury last time out to win another Class 1 Listed NH Flat race by 11 lengths under a penalty…..

Footnote – NON Cheltenham Thought….. Surrey Blaze goes for a 4 timer tonight at Wolverhampton(8.45) now having to step up from Class 6 to Class5, after winning at Chelmsford on February 22nd by 2 lengths!

Thanks for popping by and good luck with your bets.

Charlie and Rich
