What a fantastic horse Take Cover is, now winning 3 on the bounce, at the age of 10! And you wouldn’t be a surprise to see Take Cover winning again a few times next season or over the winter on the AW.

We have finally reached Champion’s Day at Ascot, the curtain closer for the flat season & we celebrate the hard work of all the staff, who have dedicated their lives to the care of the horses to have them in top form week in week out.

We have a Champions Day Peoples Nap Special today, so let’s find out the 3 choices –

Ascot – Soft

2.00 – Sprint Stakes – Group 1 Class 1 – 6f

Caravaggio – Aiden O’Brien’s Scat Daddy colt has won 3 times this term & beat Harry Angel over C/D in the Commonwealth Cup. Had a couple of poor runs at Deauville & Newmarket but bounced back by winning the Flying Five at the Curragh by 1 length from Alphabet – 4/1

2.40 – Fillies’ & Mares’ Stakes – Group 1 Class 1 – 1m 4f

Bateel – 25 lengths behind Journey in this race last season but has been a completely different mare since joining FH Graffard from David Simcock. Beat Journey by 2 & 1/2 lengths last month in Chantilly, 4th place Traffic Jam has since won a French Grade 2  while last place Blond Me won the EP Taylor at Woodbione last weekend. I shall now pass you over to Charlie for a run through his Saturday Selections & we will find out if there is another edition of Charlie’s Chaser’s …… & I will catch you for Final Word –

Cheers Rich, let’s get straight down to Saturday’s Selections and you can locate them below :

Charlie’s Selections

Stradivarius -Has been an incredible year for him, winning a Class 4 handicap at Beverley in April. Then went to Chester and placed 2nd in a Class 3 Handicap. Ascot was next on the agenda and he didn’t disappoint winning a Class 1 Group 2 race. The Goodwood cup was next and he beat Big Orange by 1 and 3/4 length. His next assignment was the St Leger at Doncaster where he finished a close 3rd behind Capri and Crystal Ocean. He is still progressive and looks dangerous to all in this class and would be no surprise if he returned to the winners enclosure today but at 8-1 has to be an Eachway play here.

Eachway Advised

The Tin Man -Has won 3 of his 5 runs over course and distance, although has found Harry Angel tough to beat since. Can’t be discounted as he won this race last year and generally loves Ascot and at 12-1 is another Eachway play here.

Eachway Advised

Desque De Lisle -Showed promise in France before being purchased for 60,000 Euros. Makes UK debut for Venetia Williams and jock Charlie Deutsch claims 3lb and that should make things a touch easier here.

Win Advised

.well that’s my thoughts on today’s Main 3 selections, good luck if following and please remember to keep stakes small so it doesn’t hurt your pocket.

I have several French bred horses to watch out for today and they are listed below. Please remember these aren’t selections just ones I had noted but didn’t use as Selections.

Charlie’s Chasers

2.30 Litterale Ci -was a dual winner on the flat in France. Was 2nd on UK debut at Exeter over 2m in a Class 4 Hurdle. Aintree was the next assignment and a Class 1 Listed Hurdle seen Litterale finish 4th. Bangor was the next assignment and Litterale was 2nd in a Class 4 Handicap Hurdle again over 2m. Harry Fry has decided to run her here in a handicap rather than taking the easier option of keeping her in novice company. One to keep an eye on and any market support would make her an interesting proposition. Currently 5-2

3.00 Romain De Senam -Was 2nd at Ayr in April over 1m 7f in a listed Chase. Was then sent to Chepstow to contest a Class 2 Handicap Chase over 2m 3f and won well. Has been raised 6lb for that run and remains unexposed in this sphere. Currently available at 11/10

3.35 Capeland -Has 2 wins and has placed 2nd twice from last 6 starts, latest 2nd at Taunton was over 2m 3f in a Class 4 Novice Hurdle. Remains open to further improvement and sports first time hood today. Currently available at 5-2

4.10 Kapricorne -Has been rejuvenated since joining Dan Skeleton placing 2nd at Newton Abbot over 3m 1f in a Class 5 Handicap Chase. Has also placed 3rd again at Newton Abbot over 3m 1f in another Class 5 Handicap Chase. Blinkers removed today and takes a drop in distance to 2m 6f 125y. Currently available at 5-4

Market Rasen

5.05 Rippling Waters -Unraced 23,000 Guinea’s purchase who is related to several winners, M Channon has had 4 bumper winners from 11 in recent years and any market support will be key here. Currently available at 5-2

I will hand you back over to Rich for the Final Word.

Final Word

What have I got in store for you all today….. Well I will get straight to it …. Desert Ace(Catterick 2.55) drops to Claiming class & should be winning on 1st run for Paul Midgley after a string of runner up spots for Iain Jardine & over at Ffos Las, the Welsh Champion Hurdle takes place with Clyne taking on The New One& sire De Grugy. I like The New One, who has won on first start every season & his record over 2m is 7 wins from 10 & has only been beaten over 2m by Faugheen(The Machine) & Yanworth(Orange Machine).

But it’s back to Ascot we go for the rest of Final Word…..

Stradivarius(1.25) in the Long Distance Cup(2m) could see the Sea the Stars colt taking the opener, having won 3 times this term, including here over 1m 6f back in June to land the Queens Vase(G2 C1) from Count Octave by a neck. The Goodwood Cup(G1 C1) followed in August over 2m, beating Big Orange by 1 & 3/4’s of a length before dropping back in distance for the St Leger at Doncaster, finishing 3rd to Capri by 1/2 a length. A return to this distance will suit.

& Finally – 3.50 – Champion Stakes – Group 1 Class 1 – 1m 2f

Cracksman, the Frankel colt, has won 3 times from 5 runs this term & stayed away from the Arc as nothing was beating Enable that day, has won the last 2 including a 6 length rout of Venice Beach in York’s Great Voltigeur Group 2 contest before landing a 3 & 1/2 length victory in Chantilly’s Niel Stakes(G2) . Barney Roy, has been beaten on his last two outing’s by Ulysses after winning here in the St James Palace Stakes & Poet’s Word, who was runner up to Decorated Knight in the Irish Champion Stakes by 1/2 a length, has had a fantastic season, with form figures reading 1 2 1 2 1 2 ? Who will WIN? I guess we will find out by 4PM!

That is your lot for today, quite a bit to be honest with you. Both Charlie & Myself, would like to thank you all for reading our ramblings on a daily basis & we hope that what we provide is, in some way useful.

Please remember that if you cannot afford to bet, just watch, especially today & the racing is first class. The NH season will soon be in full swing & hope to keep you updated, with our trackers as they come in via @arseonlinetips on Twitter, so please give us a follow.

All the best – Charlie & Rich
