Epsom Derby

Derby day is upon us, while the focus of the race has been turned into a bit of a Circus by a few, it’s now time to forget all about that & focus on the best race of the Flat season, which will be viewed all around the globe!

Epsom – 4.30 – Investec Derby – Group 1 Class 1 – 3YO Only – 1m 4f 10y

I have looked for a few stat’s regarding the runners & found that Crowned Eagle is top on Pace Figures, while Venice beach is 2 out of 2 over the distance & Trainer  S.Bin Suroor, who saddles Benbatl in a 1st time hood & Tongue Tie, has had 6 winners & 1 place from the last 8 runner’s using this 1st time combination!  But here are my Top 3 for the Greatest race in British racing –

Cliffs of Moher – Galileo colt, trained by Aiden O’Brien, won last time out at Chester by 1 & 1/2 lengths over 1m 2f in the Dee Stakes(Class 1 Listed), up in Trip & is Ryan Moores mount for team Ballydoyle

Cracksman – Frankel colt, trained by John Gosden, is 2 out of 2 so far this season having won the Derby Trial at Epsom over 1m 2f from Permian by a Short head & Frankie Dettori is on board, looking for an Oaks & Derby double

Permian – Teofilo colt, trained by Mark Johnson, is unbeaten in 2 runs since being beaten by Cracksman in the Derby Trial, including winning a Class 1 Listed race at Newmarket, which featured Khalidi, who has since won a Listed contest. William Buick is on board.

Rich’s Derby Pick of the 3 is…….. PERMIAN

Now Rich’s Derby selection is out the way it’s my turn to give my selection for the Derby so here it goes-

Eminent has been raced 3 times over 1m all at Newmarket and this son of Frankel looks a likely improver for this step up in class and distance. Very unlucky in the 2,000 Guineas when his lack of experience showed .Eminent is  Trained by Martyn Meade who has a 40% strike rate in last fortnight and ridden by Jim Crowley who has a 16% strike rate for same period. Ticks a lot of boxes for me and at around 7-1 looks a nice bit of value in this wide open renewal.

Now back to the other business of the day…..

The Peoples Nap Choices

Friday’s Results

PN Result(Friday) – Southern Belle – Unplaced & still running……

Charlie’s Results

.All 3 of my selections ran poorly on Friday and lost meaning no profit for the day.

& Finally – a Maiden of note –

Doncaster(Good to Soft) – 2.30 – Fillies’ Novice Stakes – Class 4 – 2YO Only – 6f 111y

Natural – Kodiac Filly ,related to My Catch & half sister to Pearl sea, Trained by Richard Hannon, who has a 22% 2YO SR in 2017 – 50 Runs 11 Wins & 10 Places.

Charlie’s Selections

.Time To Study – Has Two wins from last 4 races for M Johnston and looks very progressive steps up in distance here and has to be respected.

.Caid Des Malberaux – Won a relatively small Maiden in point to point over 2m 4f last April and this 5yr old has joined Paul Nichols and needs respecting as he is a very shrewd trainer and his yard are in good order.

.Clinical Approach – Won well at Dundalk over 1m 2f despite his inexperience steps up in trip here and looks like the extra distance should suit.

Well that’s the blog finally finished sorry it’s a bit late in the day had some technical issues my end but thankfully it’s all resolved now.

The People’s Nap Vote Result will be updated when voting closes. In the meantime please remember to keep stakes small and hopefully end the day with a few winners.

…Good Luck…
