Charlie’s Selections

Doncaster 3.00

Taws 5-1  – Was 2nd at Exeter last time out beaten 4 and 1/2 lengths by Finians Oscar but well clear of Seven Nation Army some 20+ lengths in 3rd. Moves up in distance here but that 2nd place form looks solid and I think the horse will relish the extra yardage.

Win Advised

Newbury 3.15

Oldgrangewood 3-1  – Has 3 wins and a 3rd from last 5 races and still looks progressive enough to go in again for Dan Skelton who has been in good form lately.

.Win Advised

Newbury 5.00

Chef Des Obeaux  5-1  – Has only been raced twice but is nicely bred being out of Saddler Maker and O Dame De Gene, is a half brother to French chase winner Trinitie Des Obeaux who won over 2m 1f. Nicky Henderson has a 21% strike rate for the last two weeks and does well in this type of race coupled with Sean Bowen who has a 23% strike rate in same period and I’m chancing the win here as those figures can’t be ignored.

Funky’s Finding’s – In race time order

Meydan (Dirt) – 1.45 – Class 1 Group 3 – 1m –

Stormardal – Has won last 3 handicap’s over C/D, including having Heavy Metal back in 4th. Has not run since December, but has won after a short break before…..

Doncaster (Soft) – 1.50 – Handicap Hurdle – Class 2 – 3m 84y –

The Organist – Been chasing this season but has not been going well, so sent back over hurdles. Is a C/D winner, when winning a C1 listed race here, would probably won when last seen over Hurdles at Cheltenham in a Mares’ Listed Novice race, 3 lengths clear but fell at the last…..

Lingfield (AW-Standard) – 2.35 – Handicap – Class 2 – 1m 1y

My Target – Has won 3 C/D Class 2 handicaps in a row, last time out beating Intransigent by 1 & 1/2 lengths. Third Time Lucky & Alfred Hutchinson have both been behind My Target in 2 of the last 3 Class 2 races

Kelso – 3.25 – Novices Hurdle – Class 1 Grade 2 – 2m 2f 25y

Mount Mews – A 14 length winner last time out at Doncaster, which was compensation for losing unbeaten tag after a neck defeat the previous race, takes the step up from Class 4 company but is still improving. Capitaine was well beaten at Kempton last Saturday, while Chalonnial was behind Capitaine in the Toolworth, has had a break so is fresher…..

And Finally……..

Lingfield(AW) – 4.20 – Spring Cup – Class 1 Listed – 7f 1y

Second Thought – Beat Sutter County when the pair last me at Kempton in this Class, despite Sutter getting the 1st run, Sutter has since won a Class 3 . Second Thought went up in the Official Rating a massive 21 from 83 to 104 for that win, mainly because 3 of the 5 runners have since won.
